At this point, there is nothing that can be said that has not been said already. If the "solution" were a simple one, it would have happened already. An art overhaul -- as basically impossible as I know it is to do -- would get people coming back to check out the game. But the problem is really one of _reputation_ now. Not to mention that it is impossible to have a consensus on what the roleplay chimera really is, in a way that is meaningful to all people involved.

Miadon is right. I was there. Although I think the most I ever saw was about 215 online on a Saturday probably in 2006-2007, and that would have included quite a few alts. I'll say it once: The project needs a serious rebranding and update of the artwork. Go ahead and reset the database while you are at it, nothing drives players away like this community. Hate to say it, but its true and it has been demonstrated to be true, time and time again. Won't argue, peace.

To be honest, I was laughing in sort of slight horror at the comments from Demagul, Garris and Rigwyn above. Kaerli, you come at people in chat, both in game and IRC, going through a process of pumping people for their reactions on these stories that sometimes go to strange places that are not really kid friendly. I am putting that mildly. But what people are saying above is true, and I am sort of surprised that it has finally come up on the forum. Its been going on for about a decade, but there used to be more players active. But its all gone too far, I even get a sense that you are metagaming with this thread.

Back in 2007 and earlier, DR Fight Club as it was called, would usually be going strong on weekends, and some weeknights. I remember 8-12 players usually on active nights. It wasn't an official sort of thing. This was prior to combat changes that changed dueling. But it was considered OOC and many on the RP side of things did not appreciate it. It was fun though, for everyone involved. What Eonwid said is interesting, thanks, Eonwid.

What a load of tripe. You didn't play this game under the old GM team. You have no idea what oppression in a video game is.

Political agendas do not belong in this game. All these posts across multiple threads and not one mention of Laanxian beliefs that might have bearing on the concept as applied in Yliakum. It would be nice to see posts about Planeshift in this forum again.

There is such a thing as over-thinking these situations. Remember, the team is real people who have their own issues happening in their lives and do the game as a hobby. Keep things in perspective, and don't necessarily whip out Robert's Rules of Order on every point. Sometimes people can be irritated by that approach, and rightly so. You received a warning, you are not facing a judgement that implies jail time or loss of IRL property. That being said, I wish you luck.

Nope, its still tedium.

Our word for the day apparently is… tedium.

Oh I see, its just some poem. So you use a loaded quotation on purpose, and then deny the significance of it. You know exactly what you posted.

The quote from reverend Martin Neimoller I feel is sort of jumping the shark. Nobody is talking about Nazi tactics to censure, or worse, the characters in PS. But where does it end? Should we put the people against, or for, gay marriage into camps? Why even bring up the Nazis? One of the reasons people may not like this sort of discussion is because things are always taken to these hideous extremes. Its not the same situation by any reasonable stretch of the imagination. When I play PS, it is to have a respite from the world… none of this makes me want to play PS.

PlaneShift News and Rules / Re: Lets make PlaneShift Unreal
« on: April 15, 2015, 08:10:31 pm »
This is a very, very good thing. But nobody is going to say what it can run on until something is available to run and someone has tried it. Unreal is the best choice. There have been many games using Unreal. Until there is a download available the best you might do is find other current games using the Unreal engine and see how the experience is on that computer. The stock graphic cards in portable computers can be problematic for running many games. But the Unreal engine will scale its output better. And many are familiar with it to some extent or another. Crystal Space has just never really taken off to receive the benefits of having an active, wide community of developers. Good show, best of luck!

No, Kary was too classy for that. I would love if either of them proved me wrong, but they won't come back.
