Guides and Tutorials / Re: A New Crafting Guide

I find that making tin stock might be easier than iron stock to start training metallurgy.  While tin is a bit further from a forge than iron, it is way easier to mine.  I get one tin out of 2 digs, but I get about one iron out of 5 digs (with a mining skill of 4).  I don't know up to which level I can get practise making tin stock, but I personally prefer it.

One more thing: at level 0, the "working with stock" book does not tell you which stock you can make.  A small bug, but it says I could only melt steel and bronze ingots, cast them back into ingots and melt tin.  I never mentioned I could make iron stocks.  Since I did not know that and none of the things mentioned in the book sais "with skill", I thought I would get practise melting steel ingots and casting them back into ingots.  I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out how to get practise points.  As soon as I got level 1, it said I could make iron, tin and copper stock (zinc a few levels later).

The cost of each training does not change much depending on skill level (around 42 trias), but the number of times you need to train a skill to fill out the yellow section does.

You will find pretty soon that having a job helps a lot in getting the money you need.  Mining is the easiest to learn as you can get some ore even at low levels although you will have to dig for a long time.  Another possibility is metallurgy, but you need to complete quests from the weapon makers to learn how to do it and you need to train it to level 20 before you can make lots of money out of it.  In theory, blacksmithing + sword making, blacksmithing + axe making, blacksmithing+knife making, repair weapons and repair armors will eventually be jobs that can give you money but, at the moment, there does not seem to be enough players that can afford those services (cheaper to sell your weapons and armors back to merchant and buy new ones when their quality is getting low).

Oh! I can smelt iron with 0 metallurgy? cool!  Thank you!

I will probably ask someone to make the steel stock to complete the quest first, but it is good to know.

Now, if I can only get some progression points, I might be able to train metallurgy.  I hope the gods stop protecting all creatures against harm sometime soon (AI down again).

Unfortunately, 20:00 GMT is 1:00 for the east coast and I don't usually play until 1am, but thanks for the offer Tolol.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / steel stock vs metallurgy

Hi!

For a quest, I need 2 steel stock.  Someone told me what raw material I needed to make it, but told me I needed metallurgy to make it.  Now, I can train metallurgy, but I don't think I can practise it to get the first skill level.  So, is there any way I can get metallurgy or do I have to ask other players to make the steel stock for me?

Note that I cannot carry enough material to make 2 steel stock, so I would have to find someone to make me one, then go mine again to get the raw material to make another and I would probably need to find someone else to make the second steel stock.  On the other hand, most players in this game seem friendly, so it may not be too difficult to find someone to do it.

Bye!
