Mules...Hireable mercenaries... welfare system
« on: August 19, 2002, 09:36:39 am »
This is an idea from dungeon siege... A mule to carry extra baggage. Its strength is proportional to your own so that the mule doesnt die against high-level monsters. I tend to suffer a lot from extra equipment the mule seems like a good idea.

If the mule is a bad idea (too much coding), I\'d suggest using a weight system rather than a slot system. Inventory basically becomes a list with dragable icons. Each item has a weight.... Much easier to implement than a slot system like in diablo, which leads to space problems.

OR... having a bank is also a good idea....

Another thing that would be nice to have are pets/merceneries. The successful way (judging from past games I played) of making them fun is that you can also level them. Even better would be to equip them. As they become more powerful, they can use more spells or whatnot.

The last idea is a welfare system. People that are low level and poor can rely on a welfare system to help them live. This can be abused a bit, so only one time per day only, and for low level chars only.

The money source can come from donations from the rich or generated infinitely. I always see beggars in RPGs. At least this might group them elsewhere.... Hell, I admit to being a beggar too... and i beg shamelessly.

Here\'s another idea... buyable transports. If you\'re rich, you can buy a horse. Otherwise, you have to hitch a ride on some giant beast or a wagon.

Here\'s another idea... wanted poster bulliton boards. Got a grudge against a pker? Auction a high amount of cash to place a wanted poster in limited slots on the bulliton board. Bounty hunters can then sign it, and once the pker is killed, the poster goes off.... bounty hunter gets reward.

This can be abused though. The reward should be little in case the pker\'s friend killed the pker, and agreed to share the loot.... Or perhaps dying has very severe consequences such as experience loss so money loss is nothing...

Mercinaries was discussed in some thread.....somewhere and I dont remember what camn of it

There will be transports like horses and also flying beasts

I would like the poster things because I would like to be a bounty hunter / assassin , but the devs dont want there to be any pking in the game, the only fighting between players will be in areanas where both players agree, also possibly race/ guild wars.  So the posters are a good, but useless idea.

Race grudges. I think this is a great idea. Some races can have grudges on other races, so they become automatically aggressive just like against monster. The idea is taken from Everquest. What\'s really interesting in that game was that an enchanter can actually disguise him or herself into another race, and join an enemy\'s party... hehe...

Here\'s an idea to please many, many people.... a casino. I\'m not really a gambler type, but a casino is such a great idea. The proceeds can go to the welfare system.

...I don\'t think casinos fit in with the whole idea behind the game  ;)

Just a lil\' something to do besides fighting or bartering. Besides, ultima online have board games like chess that people can play... i think. I think Asheron\'s Call even has disco bars... how weird is that?

More ideas... a moderator god-like figure. Most moderators come under the form of some guy/girl working behind a workstation. Instead of that, why not implement a virtual god-like creature that can teleport to the bad do-er and show his/her might.... a catchy phrase and instant death/warning/serverban/....

I like it. Instead of just moderators, game masters can take on this god-like persona too. This appearance can come under a gigantic monster in town, or a giant hand from the sky, and so on. Each town can have a god-like figure.

Of course, if this sounds too crazy, make guards.

Message boards should be implemented, but only in places like guild halls, so that guild leaders could easily contact their members, in case of a war, or some ergent news.

i like teh casino idea....but since casinos arent medieval it could be \"casino like\"

For instance people can make up more primitive ways of gambling, and of course there were always card games for betting, just different cards and ways to play them.....

in other words: i wanna waste my money on somethin fun!  ;)

Exactly! This is also a great way to add something extra to the economy system. The games can be something like cockfighting except giants monsters are used... or even simple guessing games.

What do you also think of having a god-like moderator class? Spells would be instant death, dungeon portal (puts the player in prison for a while), dimension shift (suspended from server), and teleport (to teleport to the player in question). People can also praise the moderator as a god to hopefully receive benfits.... just something for the atmosphere.
