Roleplaying (Communitive Storywriting) / Sylvain Rising
« on: March 20, 2013, 08:54:22 pm »
The baking mid day heat of the crystal clearly made the task that the young Ylian had to do in the courtyard of the farm estate even tougher. With his black hair being stuck onto his forehead due to the amount of sweat, along with his clothes soaked through. He had the unenviable responsibility of moving a pile of heavy bags of wheat from underneath a tree to a pile at a nearby shack, a distance of 20 feet. This was clearly a strain on the body, but yet with every bag he went to lift, his teal blue eyes widen in determination to succeed in this duty.

After a while his grind was done and he sat by beneath the tree to benefit from what little shade it had to gift him with. Reaching for his water pouch and taking a well deserved drink from it, he spots a older Ylian standing over him and puts the water pouch away from his moist lips.

"Is that it for now father?" The younger Ylian enquired.
The older Ylian nodded and smiled "Indeed for now, it is Sylvain" offering a helping hand up. To which Sylvain accepted, brushed himself down whilst saying "I won't miss those duties".
The father let out a small laugh "Perhaps." he looks towards the main building of the estate "Grab some food from Corbett....and perhaps a wash before tonight?" he gives a wink to Sylvain
"Always something else eh father?" Sylvain said with a wry smile and walked to the main building.

His father watched as his son went inside, he then look around. The courtyard was in the midst of a busy day with farm hands rushing around to attend their various roles in working the farm. Amongst the organised chaos he was witnessing a female ylian calmly approach him, grabbed hold of him and gave him a soothing kiss.

"Robbie my dear, you are in the way of all these hands, let us sit down in the grass for a while" She smiled at him
"I am aren't I?" he smiled "That sounds delightful"
Hand in hand they walked away from the courtyard and into the grass, laying down beneath the tree cover to protect them from the heat.

"Do you think he is ready Roberet?" The female Ylian asked resting her head on his chest
"In all honesty Ariuy......I cannot be sure." Roberet began "However he has little else to learn around here and he is of the right age to be allowed away from the home." he stroked her hair "Besides, my mind and body tire of it all, I find here to be some what more desirable as I go on."

Ariuy gave a little quiet chuckle "Ah our we being selfish here Robbie? Sending our only child to do our work?"
Roberet responds with a chuckle in return then said "Perhaps..... but surely Sylvain will be bore of this surrounding...as pleasant as it is. There is excitement and opportunity out there, a name of his own to be made!"
Ariuy simply says quietly "Perhaps..." before closing her eyes.

Later on that night the once busy bright courtyard was a light in the darkness of night. Many benches lined up to form one line, decorations of bunting, gems and torches lighted up the courtyard. With the huge feast on the tables topping off a joyous atmosphere with all sort of village characters, from the farm hands to the other families sitting side by side.

Roberet stood up, made a cling sound with his spoon and wine glass to get everyones attention.

"I'll keep this short ladies and gentlemen, as the food well only be so hot and tender for so long! It has been proud feat of my wife Ariuy and I to restore this estate back to it's glory, tonight we celebrate 15 years of operations here, it has been a project of absolute love. Yet Ariuy's and I are most proud of our son Sylvain, who tomorrow in the morning shall be leaving for the big H, to strive for success! A toast ladies and gentlemen, to Sylvain Goldsmith"

With that everyone joined their glasses together and a loud crowd shout of  "Cheers!"

The celebrations carried on into the night.

Then morning came. Roberet and Sylvain were preparing their Rivnaks for the journey ahead. The preparation was silent for the most part with the odd "Thank you" to the farm hands who came back and forth with equipment and supplies.

Eventually they both mounted their rivnaks. Roberet looked at Sylvain
"Remember there is opportunity out there for you. You take whatever you can however you can."
Sylvain nodded
"Don't let honor get in the way of things, you'll find many other don't" Roberet continued

"Oh have no fear about that father, none shall be in my way to glory" Sylvain responds with grit in his voice
"Let's ride" he shouts and gallops of to the distance. With Roberet having a smile on the faced and gallops behind him.

Notes:
This whole village/farm is part of roberet's background story which is avaliable to read on the single author bits, but is riddled with typing errors I warn thee!

If you have read that then during my inactivity Roberet was indeed reunited with Ariuy and the family estate and of course they had a son. At some point I'll write about how that came to be!

Sylvain Goldsmith:  Going to say little  about his personality or how different he will be compared to Roberet. Let us just say he will be  a little bit more rough n ready.

The first name has some reasoning to it. First bit: Syl. Which could be pronounced as seel or sil. Sil as in silver. Silver is often  a second place prize in many sports to Gold. So silver= second. Sylvain Goldsmith= second Goldsmith. The second Goldsmith. Subtle links indeed! (But it starts a nice theme with Gold already in the family name)

Also this bit is a little bit more obvious. But Sylvain,or particularly just focusing on the second end of the name; vain. Which is a cheeky dig at Roberet's characteristic of being quite vain in particular with his hair. Also keeps the idea of Roberet wanting Sylvain to become like him, or rather even better.

Look forward to playing Sylvain...in game!]

General Discussion / Getting more players
« on: August 25, 2012, 05:41:34 pm »
Title says it all boys and girls

We all know that planeshift is the mustard but not many other people know. Being a guy who RP and suffers an allergic reaction to any power levelling,  my playing experience is much to do with who else will RP, more players...usually means more fun and there is a general acceptance that it is a bit quiet these days.

So anyways through some suggestions out there kids. Personally I wonder does planeshift have a twitter or a tumblr? I mean it might not be the all mighty answer but its easy and free to do and it puts the game on social sites that are full of people who'd be interested in giving planeshift a go if they found out about it.

Secondary point. What was soo good about 7th August 2008? What happened on this site to make it the busiest day on here. I'm curious.

Single Author Stories / The tale of Roberet's exit
« on: June 13, 2011, 12:21:45 pm »
[A year ago or so I did have an attempt of writing this story, but it was shockingly bad,so changed quite a bit of it.]

Roberet walks into Imperial Head-Quarters, he slowly locks the door and turns around to see a rather quiet Head-Quarters, with one Imperial occupied by organising items In the Dawn Force area and an Imperial Scholar walking up to the Library.  Roberet smiles to himself briefly, as he put his key back into his trouser pocket, he then proceeds to walk over to his desk. The  desk for the most part is tidy, with a pile of papers, threating to spill out, on the top right corner of the desk. Roberet reaches under his desk to get a new piece of paper, he puts on the desk and begins to write.

Dear Reader

My name is Roberet Goldsmith, Overlord of the Dusk force. As you may be aware I am not a Hydlaa native and when I was younger I had no desire to come to such a place. I write this to, at the very least, try to give a clear account and explain fully why I came to be here In Hydlaa and thusly taken in by the Dark Empire. In order to help you understand fully I believe it would be best if I gave a description of where I was previously.

The Village of Rehykana was the village I was born and raised in, the only place apart from Hydlaa that I have ever called home. It was a quiet idyllic farming village; it was home to seven farming families, all with their own large amount of rich fertile land.   With demand from the major towns always more than enough, the families sold their produce at a generous price, the families were wealthy. As a result of this wealth, each family built a huge farming house, with extravagance clear to see within these houses. They provided the families an opportunity to, effectively outdo each other, the bigger and the more extravagant the better! This desire for each family to outdo the other not just kept to housing. The amount of workers each family employed, the clothes that they wore, the rare items they could get, the list goes on. Even simple public meetings were an opportunity for the families to gain the upper-hand on another.

With this rivalry the relationship between the seven families was at the very best always edgy, although outbursts of any real action were rare, the village of Rehykana, often had a tense atmosphere.

Apart from the families,  Rehykana was also home to a large tavern, the social focal point of Rehykana society. On the outside it seemed a large structure made of stone and a thatched roof. The inside was far more welcoming, with a warm fire which had comfortable chairs around it, in the left hand side of the room. The tavern had a wooden bar, much like those in Hydlaa, which had a door which lead to the Kitchen.

A number of wooden tables and chairs sprawled around the first floor, these were often filled with a variety of people. Workers from the farms, travellers, the small group of soldiers who protect the village from variety of creatures, travelling merchants, others who live and work in the village and of course those who belonged to the seven families.  With this the tavern was often the centre of interest, excitement and commotion.

Aside from the tavern, the village was also home to a humble blacksmith workshop which was placed right next to the tavern at the centre of the village, nothing of note to this dear reader. The families preferred not to use the blacksmith, opting to import from cities with blacksmiths with a better reputation, however small practical things were still needed, thus the blacksmith stayed afloat.
The last setting of note was the lake that was a few yards behind the tavern, it was a  large lake surrounded by bushes and trees, despite its size the island which was located in the middle of the lake could be clearly been seen in clear weather.

I hope this gives you a better idea of what Rehykana was like and how its society functioned. Or rather how the families, busied themselves with petty feuds....although at the time these seemed like the most important things in life.

I'll start the story on the day when it all began, well rather when it all began to end.

An Imperial walks up to Roberet's desk  and bows "Overlord".
Roberet stops writing and looks up to the Imperial "Hail. What is it?"
The Imperial replies "You're needed urgently at the Plaza sir"
Roberet sighs, he puts the piece  of paper away  and walks out of the Head-Quarters.

[ Tell me what you think, hopefully grammar is not too shocking.]

One last piece  to put in the puzzle and I can play, hopefully.

As I have mentioned in another post after I click the repairs button to fix the game, a load of correct files were downloaded including a new Client I believe. Everyone single one of them has been downloaded successfully except one.

The art/materials.zip file is just unreal, it might be large but heck the whole game is a quicker download than this, and it will just stop downloading or just tell me it has  failed. Really unreal stuff, like I said, all other files have been downloaded successfully except this one. Any ideas?

Oh Planeshift, how you are so close yet so far.

Downloaded the latest update, all good there, installation, all good there. Click on the magic PS button and I get this.

  C:/Program Files/PlaneShift/pslaunch.exe

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I have reinstalled   two times now, still the same. I  think my computer specs is up to date. I mean I don't know the details but the computer can handle far better(Also this game worked like a beauty before, internet connection can  annoy though lol   :@#\). Also I don't think it is the issue, I must have gone wrong some where down the line. But I just can't think where.

Also, there is  no updater avaliable which I find strange and may be the issue. ???

The Hydlaa Plaza / Formula 1 - It's back!
« on: March 14, 2008, 08:35:49 pm »

Yes the four wheels horses of the track are back for the new season starting in Melbourn,Australia. Will Hamilton win it this year? Or will the Ice man  keep is cool and hold onto his title or perhaps Alonso with his Renault team can relive the glory days of a couple of seasons back and win the title again.

Will Honda's car be any good? Unlike last season . Will it be another year of team spies and F1 politics, or hopefully it will ALL be on the track.

Also two electronic aids for the cars have been banned under new rules, which may mean drives may actully have to drive their cars :O ....or rely less on technology and more on the drivers skill. so expect more inciddents.

 Discuss. :P

Single Author Stories / Roberet's Tale
« on: January 24, 2008, 08:22:33 pm »
The peaceful wind brushed through the yellow wheat fields and into the the farmhouse. It brushed against Roberet's cheek as he read, sitting on his wooden chair, resting the book on his old wooden table. As he felt the wind, he looked outside and saw the the gleaming rays creeping under the everlasting wheatfields and beyond the hills.

Loud footsteps creek down the stairs. Those loud footsteps are those of Roberet's brother, Arco. He wears thin leather clothes with dirt on his shirt.

"Tavern time?" Arco said, smiling. Roberet nodded and closed the book then stood up with a smile. As the two walked down the dirt path through the open field, Roberet had an ever widening smile on his face as they neared the tavern. Arco noticed.

"What are you smiling about?" he said, kicking some of the dirt from the path. Roberet's eyes looked up to Arco then back down as Arco awaited the responce. "Ah. She will be there." Arco said, brushing some of the wheat on the field. Roberet nodded, still smiling. They had reached the tavern.

It was in the village center, if one could call it that. It had the tavern and the blacksmith's shop. The tavern was a modest building with a thatched roof and eight windows - four windows on each level of the tavern. The building's walls were solid oak. A lake gleamed behind it with a small island at its middle, and big oak trees decorated the whole of the shore.

Roberet lead the way into the wooden entrance of the tavern with Arco following behind.

[ Tell me what you think about that small piece, more will come. Learn a little more about Roberet]

The Hydlaa Plaza / Puns

 Say these to your self

Tim Vine , comedian held the record for the most jokes in an hour before another guy  broke his record , here is some of them

    * So I was getting into my car, and this bloke says to me "Can you give me a lift?" I said, "Sure, you look great, the world's your oyster, go for it."
    * So I rang up a local building firm and said, "I wanna skip outside my house." He said, "I'm not stopping you."
    * Now, most dentist's chairs go up and down, don't they? The one I was in went back and forwards. I thought, "This is unusual". Then the dentist said to me, "Mr Vine, get out of the filing cabinet".
    * I went to the butchers the other day and I bet him fifty quid that he couldn't reach the meat off the top shelf. And he said, "no, the steaks are too high".
    * I was reading this book, 'The History of Glue'. I couldn't put it down.
    * I got a job as the Duke of Edinburgh's hairdresser. The other day I parked outside Buckingham Palace and a policeman came up to me and said "have you got a permit?" And I said, "no, I've just got to take a bit off the back".
    * The other day someone left a piece of plasticine in my dressing room. I didn't know what to make of it.
    * Exit signs. They're on the way out, aren't they?
    * When I was at school people used to throw gold bars at me. I was the victim of bullion.
    * So I went to the doctor and he said, "You've got hypochondria." I said, "Not that as well!" (Tim Vine live DVD).
    * Velcro, what a rip-off...
    * I was playing the piano in a bar and this elephant walked in and started crying his eyes out. I said "Do you recognise the tune?" He said "No, I recognise the ivory"
    * I saw this bloke chatting up a cheetah. I thought - he's trying to pull a fast one
    * You invented Tippex... Correct me if I'm wrong
    * Did you know all male tennis players are witches? For example Goran.. Even-he's-a-witch
    * I was in Tescos, and saw this man and woman wrapped in a bar code. I said "Are you two an item?"
    * A lorryload of tortoises crashed into a train full of terrapins. It was a turtle disaster.
    * I've got a friend who's fallen in love with two school bags, he's bisatchel
    * I'll tell you what I love doing more than anything: trying to pack myself in a small suitcase. I can hardly contain myself.
    * Did you know if a stick insect lays it's eggs in a jar of Bovril it will give birth to a litter of twiglets?
    * I went into a shop and said, "Can someone sell me a kettle." The bloke said "Kenwood" I said, "Ok, where is he?"
    * So I went in to a pet shop. I said, "Can I buy a goldfish?" The guy said, "Do you want an aquarium?" I said, "I don't care what star sign it is."
    * So I told my girlfriend I had a job in a bowling alley. She said "Tenpin?" I said, "No, it's a permanent job."
    * So I fancied a game of darts with my mate. He said, "Nearest the bull goes first" He went "Baah" and I went "Moo" He said "You're closest"
    * I used to live in a teapot. I know what you're thinking 'Pour You'

Wish list / Shops, ,restruants ect
« on: October 03, 2007, 07:40:07 pm »
In addition to the guild houses , it would be nice to have buildings that were open to all that  did not need  keys ect. Though players could still buy them and own them (with deeds as proof of ownership). Also this could be shops, if players wanted to  have a buissness.  For example if a crafter wanted to sell weapons she/he  would    buy a building and set up  a shop. Or if someone wanted to open some sought of restruant ( when the cooking ability come s in :D).

Though this would bring in the design of the buildings, now I would like to see a varaition of designs , to suite a players needs in a buildings. So if it was a shop ,  it would be basic, with just a wooden counter and perhaps some wall decorations. I wouldnt go into a sim-like option where players could design the inside of their buildings , simply because it would be too much of a hassal.
Also if it was a restruant it would have a kitchen and some tables ( like the ones in the Hydlaa tavern).

I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, but  stuff like this would encourage some RP, and add some variation to it.

General Discussion / A market
« on: September 04, 2007, 02:23:53 pm »
Just an Idea, not sure if its been done before,

But how about a weekly market in  Hydlaa, where crafters could sell their weapons and repairs could be made, people could sell food and drinks, diamonds, mushroom ect. Also this could be a good time for the newspapers to sell their papers or Guilds to make announcments ect

This could be on the weekend, where most of the Players do not have work or education to go to (Sunday perhaps?)

It could be a social event, where Players could meet new people. Which could be organised by the GMs or the players themselves

Well just an Idea

[My first try  at a planeshift story,  hope you enjoy.  This story has  passion, romance , humor .....and errrm well just  read for your self ;) and prepare for mass spelling mistakes :D ]

Chapter 1  In the beginning

Gregory  is a young Stonebreaker, who has just entered Hydlaa , he is eager and optimistic about his future. He  wears simple but clean clothes,  his trousers are slightly dirty at the bottom due to traveling.

He  walks, carrying his bag, with a broad smile on his face and a gleam in his eye. He  stops outside the Tavern to take a look  at his surroundings

"Here it is beautiful Hydlaa, beautiful beautiful"

Gregory, being tired after walking so far, decides to go in to the tavern to have a  pint of ale

He walks in,  seeing only the barmaid and a Yilian in dirty clothes  ordering a ale. Gregory walks to the bar.

"One pint of your finest ale" Gregory  says still smiling
The barmaid looks around confused "Who said that?"

The Yilian looks down at Gregory "Down there" He point with his mug

Gregory loses his smiling and  mumbles  in coherent words

The Barmaid looks down "Oh sorry, that always happens with..."
"Dwarfs?" Gregory mumbles just  loud enough for the Barmaid to hear. The Barmaid blushes

"Yes..... one ale coming up sir"  Shes says while going to one of the barrels filling a empty mug  with ale. Gregory  regains his smile and  says "Cheers".  The Yilian   looks at Gregory, sipping some of his ale,he puts his mug on the bar and with  a cheerful voice says
"Greetings"  Gregory looks up at the Yilian, his clothes  were dirty and torn, he did not seems very wealthy.
"Greetings sir" Gregory replies
"Here you go , that will be five trias sir"  The Barmaid says opening her hand
Gregory goes on his tip-toes and gives her trias from his pocket, he then grabs  the mug full to the  brim with ale.
"Care to join me at a table" The Yilian says,  pointing to a table.
Gregory looks at the table and nods, they both walk to a table  with three candles  on it.
"So whats your name dwarf?" The yilian says sipping some of his ale
"Gregory Dover" Gregory says   looking at one of the candles. The Yilian  spits out some of his drink and laughs
"Gregory Dover?!?! Not exactly a name for a dwarf" Gregory frowns
"Whats your name then?"
The Yilian sighs and says quietly
"Maurice  Gangelberry" Gregory bursts out laughing
"Looks like were even, when it comes to names pal"  Maurice says winking
"Aye" Gregory replied,  sipping some of his ale "I am new to Hydlaa, I just  arrived."
Maurice  raises a eyebrow "Really? Why did you come to Hydlaa then" He says sipping his ale expecting the same old story
Gregory puts on a grin as he  speaks proudly "I have come here to gains glory, honor, fame and have money.....and success"
Maurice sighs and puts his mug down  "Sorry to burst your bubble, but  everyone else is doing exactly what you wish to do, it is not easy" He looks Gregory in the eye "For  one successful Hydlaa   person they're twenty failed ones" Gregory  loses his grin "Really.....?"
Maurice still with his serious voice says "No I lied" he then starts laughing "But you get my point" He picks up  his mug and sips some of his ale.

Another Yilian walks into the Tavern, wearing chain armor and carrying two swords. He has many Imperial markings on his armour. He seems youngish...in his early twenties, he has long brown and a   trimmed beard. He orders a pint of ale and looks around the Tavern

Maurice  smiles and shouts "Roberet! over here pal" Roberet  smiles back as he grabs a mug of ale and walks over
"Gregory I would like you to meet my friend, Roberet" Maurice says sipping some of his ale
"Greetings sir" Gregory says looking up at the Yilian.
"Hail, Roberet Goldsmith of the Imperial Trades and Imperial Guard at your service" He bows slightly, then he sits down next to Maurice
Maurice chuckles "Enough with the formal stuff Robbie, your at the Tavern"
Roberet chuckles "So you have a last name Gregory?"
Gregory bites his lip "...Lets keep it at Gregory....sir......what is this Imperial ...  ...organisations you say you are part off" Gregory says trying to take away the subject of his name out of the conversation. Roberet smiles as he sips some of his ale
"Just the one organisation  ....or guild ...whatever you may call it. I am in the Dark Empire"  Gregory looks shocked
"Dark? your evil?" Roberet bursts out laughing, then he stops
"No ..no. do not let the name fool you were not  evil" Roberet smiles  while sipping some of his ale

Four other people walk into the Tavern and walk over to the table next two Gregorys table, Roberet takes a look at them with a worried  expression

The four mumble, an Enki  says loudly "Those Imperial scum, we should crush them" The other three agree in nodding
An Klyros takes a look at Roberet seeing all of his Imperial marking  his  holds up his arm and points  "There is one of those Imperalist scum!"

Roberet stands up and quickly finshes his drink and puts down the mug
The Klyros stands up "What is your name?"

Roberet looks at the exit   then looks at the Klyros "Roberet Goldsmith of the Imperial Trades and the Imperial Guard"  The klyros shouts "Get him!' The four start running at Roberet with swords and axes Roberet looks at Gregory "It's been a pleasure , but I must go" He says smiling , he then proceeds to run to the exit , with the four chasing him out of the door

Chapter 2 "O how the heart beats"

Later that day Gregory and Maurice were at the Hydlaa plaza, Maurice was showing  Gregory around  Hydlaa

Maurice points to  the Blacksmiths  and the surrounding area

"Thats were you can get your weapons  made and repaired ....if you have the money, the Hydlaa Plaza is where most citzens tend to be, so if you want to be noticed .....here would be a preferable place."

Gregory smiles as he sees the crowd around the blacksmiths
"Thats  most of Hydlaa for you" Maurice says with his hands in his pockets
Gregory then sees a female Ywnm, he begins to gaze at herr, she looked beautiful with a unblemeshed face and   wearing a clean robe. She seemed to light up every direction she looked at. Gregory  snapped out of his gaze and says in a soft voice
"Who is she?" He points  toward the Ywnm.  Maurice looks at  the Ywnm
"Ah. her ....do not know much about her....only that she has one massive , muscle bound Ywnm as a partner" Maurice says while Gregory was still in a gaze   "Shes ....beautiful .....I .......think I .....love  her......shes beautiful" Gregory says   as he seemed to  have ignored what Maurice said about  the female Ywnm having a muscle bound partner

Maurice  looks at Gregory "First looks can be deceiving pal"  Grgory still in a gaze ignoring Maurice still

"I must  be with her .... she must be mine...... she is so beautiful

Gregory sighs "Well good luck trying"

To be continued......

[ Will Gregory get the Girl? Will the muscle bound Ywnm notice that? Will Maurice get a job????? All to come  ;D]
