General Discussion / Re: Intro to Roleplay (1st discussion)
« on: December 02, 2017, 05:54:49 pm »
Reading the above is interesting. I used to play on here a few years back on and off (Looking back at my forum posts I go back from 2007, good grief)

I'd say the best role play is that which in general, enhances everyone's character or roleplay experience. Easier said then done. Its a game of give and take I suppose!

Roleplay fighting  I always found tricky, the most fun I had was through the luck of a /roll.

I stinging memory is witnessing an OCC discussion mid way a fight where the argument was if an enki's tale could hold a sword or not.

Some hills are too small to die on.  ;)

Love it! A shame I only just read it now, haha  :flowers:

Very kind. Looking back on this, personally, I find it awful.

Ha, yeah I remember you roughly. That and also your sig is a huge throwback for me. Enjoy your time back.

Which is why I suggested 'more outreach'- it seems to me a game of this caliber, with so many play options (quests, rp, skills, rp, events, rp) and is FREE should be teeming with players.  I don't want to rehash the way there are not... discussion.   What can we do going forward? Is it listed on people's FBs and other social media? Do we invite our friends to play? Is it in online listservs? (these are real questions, not rhetorical ones).
RR

Just a little thought on this, in terms of getting the message out. I've looked at a couple of RP/MMORPG sites and forums, where they have news and discussion about MMORPG's and Planeshift is there, but a lot of them don't have any new updates from since like 2008. For example theres a couple of websites that have an interview with talad from like a few years ago.

To the devs credit a lot has change since a few years ago with the game! Let it be known!

A small sample size of websites so my point could be waaaaaay off the mark, but its a thought.

As for what I'd develop next? The graphics, seeing from the websites a lot of criticism is towards the old graphics.

This was a nice intro for the character. I don't normally stop and read stories on the forum but this one did keep me engaged. :)
Thank you :)! Hope he will be just as engaging in game aha!
awww, and here I was guessing the "vain" might be in reference to a vein of silver or even gold discovered and ready to be mined even though not spelled as that meaning.

I like that thought! It is a shame I lack the creative intelligence to come with that myself.Haha.

The baking mid day heat of the crystal clearly made the task that the young Ylian had to do in the courtyard of the farm estate even tougher. With his black hair being stuck onto his forehead due to the amount of sweat, along with his clothes soaked through. He had the unenviable responsibility of moving a pile of heavy bags of wheat from underneath a tree to a pile at a nearby shack, a distance of 20 feet. This was clearly a strain on the body, but yet with every bag he went to lift, his teal blue eyes widen in determination to succeed in this duty.

After a while his grind was done and he sat by beneath the tree to benefit from what little shade it had to gift him with. Reaching for his water pouch and taking a well deserved drink from it, he spots a older Ylian standing over him and puts the water pouch away from his moist lips.

"Is that it for now father?" The younger Ylian enquired.
The older Ylian nodded and smiled "Indeed for now, it is Sylvain" offering a helping hand up. To which Sylvain accepted, brushed himself down whilst saying "I won't miss those duties".
The father let out a small laugh "Perhaps." he looks towards the main building of the estate "Grab some food from Corbett....and perhaps a wash before tonight?" he gives a wink to Sylvain
"Always something else eh father?" Sylvain said with a wry smile and walked to the main building.

His father watched as his son went inside, he then look around. The courtyard was in the midst of a busy day with farm hands rushing around to attend their various roles in working the farm. Amongst the organised chaos he was witnessing a female ylian calmly approach him, grabbed hold of him and gave him a soothing kiss.

"Robbie my dear, you are in the way of all these hands, let us sit down in the grass for a while" She smiled at him
"I am aren't I?" he smiled "That sounds delightful"
Hand in hand they walked away from the courtyard and into the grass, laying down beneath the tree cover to protect them from the heat.

"Do you think he is ready Roberet?" The female Ylian asked resting her head on his chest
"In all honesty Ariuy......I cannot be sure." Roberet began "However he has little else to learn around here and he is of the right age to be allowed away from the home." he stroked her hair "Besides, my mind and body tire of it all, I find here to be some what more desirable as I go on."

Ariuy gave a little quiet chuckle "Ah our we being selfish here Robbie? Sending our only child to do our work?"
Roberet responds with a chuckle in return then said "Perhaps..... but surely Sylvain will be bore of this surrounding...as pleasant as it is. There is excitement and opportunity out there, a name of his own to be made!"
Ariuy simply says quietly "Perhaps..." before closing her eyes.

Later on that night the once busy bright courtyard was a light in the darkness of night. Many benches lined up to form one line, decorations of bunting, gems and torches lighted up the courtyard. With the huge feast on the tables topping off a joyous atmosphere with all sort of village characters, from the farm hands to the other families sitting side by side.

Roberet stood up, made a cling sound with his spoon and wine glass to get everyones attention.

"I'll keep this short ladies and gentlemen, as the food well only be so hot and tender for so long! It has been proud feat of my wife Ariuy and I to restore this estate back to it's glory, tonight we celebrate 15 years of operations here, it has been a project of absolute love. Yet Ariuy's and I are most proud of our son Sylvain, who tomorrow in the morning shall be leaving for the big H, to strive for success! A toast ladies and gentlemen, to Sylvain Goldsmith"

With that everyone joined their glasses together and a loud crowd shout of  "Cheers!"

The celebrations carried on into the night.

Then morning came. Roberet and Sylvain were preparing their Rivnaks for the journey ahead. The preparation was silent for the most part with the odd "Thank you" to the farm hands who came back and forth with equipment and supplies.

Eventually they both mounted their rivnaks. Roberet looked at Sylvain
"Remember there is opportunity out there for you. You take whatever you can however you can."
Sylvain nodded
"Don't let honor get in the way of things, you'll find many other don't" Roberet continued

"Oh have no fear about that father, none shall be in my way to glory" Sylvain responds with grit in his voice
"Let's ride" he shouts and gallops of to the distance. With Roberet having a smile on the faced and gallops behind him.

Notes:
This whole village/farm is part of roberet's background story which is avaliable to read on the single author bits, but is riddled with typing errors I warn thee!

If you have read that then during my inactivity Roberet was indeed reunited with Ariuy and the family estate and of course they had a son. At some point I'll write about how that came to be!

Sylvain Goldsmith:  Going to say little  about his personality or how different he will be compared to Roberet. Let us just say he will be  a little bit more rough n ready.

The first name has some reasoning to it. First bit: Syl. Which could be pronounced as seel or sil. Sil as in silver. Silver is often  a second place prize in many sports to Gold. So silver= second. Sylvain Goldsmith= second Goldsmith. The second Goldsmith. Subtle links indeed! (But it starts a nice theme with Gold already in the family name)

Also this bit is a little bit more obvious. But Sylvain,or particularly just focusing on the second end of the name; vain. Which is a cheeky dig at Roberet's characteristic of being quite vain in particular with his hair. Also keeps the idea of Roberet wanting Sylvain to become like him, or rather even better.

Look forward to playing Sylvain...in game!]

* Illysia hands them both dictionaries

Perhaps if they throw more words at each other it will resolve matters. But when are you guys due back for your seasonal rebirth and subsequent retreating into the shadows to bicker among yourselves? :D

Oh I don't think theres any matters aha besidesI consider this a success

You see in a, evidently futile, effort to showcase some humour. In response to his post which, no doubt in jest, viewed my sig(which was a joke in its self) in a negative light. I responded with a "U wot m8" which in an effort to be funny contrasted immensely to the  superfluous convoluted language being used.*  Along with changing my sig to something that poked fun calling him a chump in also a very simple manner, a word that really should not be taken seriously in this day and age.**

A shame the humor was lost. However as I said it was a success. With his last post it is clear I managed to break his will, which is evident in now only using words that only had one syllable each in a short clear sentence. Quite the contrast to the original post I responded too.

Additionally I also received a remarkable assessment on my intelligence of my entire 20 years of being alive, with refreshing honesty, which many in my past just weren't capable of.

All the while whilst keeping the Dark Empire promotional page on the most recent list ;)

So.......

As I do have to point out the humour, George Bush was famous for his struggles with the English language(nicely links to whole conversation see!), also that the war in Iraq still had in reality a long way to go, which brings me nicely too your original question Illysia....

I wouldn't say that we will have a resurgence any time soon sadly, but theres a few of us kicking around in game so really anything is possible! :)

*It depresses me I had to explain myself on this
**Yeah that was a bit silly of me

Ceasing to tell everyone else that their Guilds and they "suck", and focusing your illiteracy instead on me by informing me that I am a "chump", is, I suppose, progress of a sort. Mind you, you were never very bright, so we don't expect too much.

Single Author Stories / Re: The tale of Roberet's exit
« on: March 11, 2013, 10:16:15 pm »

Therefore reader we come to the final night of this, the tale of my exit from the Village. Cinereo's farm estate was distinctive at night, heavily lit it seemingly was like the crystal's baby brother who comes out at night. The other feature, which due to circumstances were more extreme, was the amount of guards place around the estate. This proved to be a sticking point in my, admittedly, quickly thought out plan, worse of all time was not on my side. I was hiding in the cover of trees just close enough to see positions of the guards, I felt sick, every angle was covered. There was no possible route to sneak in, any attempt to engage would be fruitless. Thus I did what any love struck naive young man would do when faced with such a situation, wallowed in self pity. The possibility of not ever seeing Ari had struck me once more, ever so clearer this time, a pain in my gut.

Yet I was in luck.

In my emotionally distressed state of mind I forgot about one factor, Cinereo's son Whoni, he was in the courtyard of the estate pacing around in circles. As I sat there in pity for ones self, he finally ran out of patience of news of our families discussions. In one giant yell he had enough of his frustration.

"Curse it all! Everybody by my side now! We're going over there to teach those gobbles a thing or two" Whoni then proceeded to march out of the courtyard with the guards rushing to follow behind him. If ever there was a window of opportunity...

With the estate now without the many watchful eyes the task of going into the main building was relatively easy. A quick double check of my bearings then I ran from cover to the building, being as light footed as possible, or at least an attempt to be. Now I was inside, you may dear reader now think the problem of where to go would be the next issue, but that was not the case. Cinereo hosted many grand feasts for the families of the village to come too, the highest displays of wealth and gluttony, always a fantastic occasion. A perk of this was being able to roughly know the layout of the main building, and in more particular where Ariuy's room would be. Where I hoped she would be.

The blood was bumping as my heart was beating fast, the building was silent bar the flames of torches along the walls. This was quite the contrast to the loud partying of the feasts, a point I only have appreciation now in reflection. During the moment I ran straight up the grand staircases and to Ariuy's room.

Fourth door on the left, fourth door on the left, fourth door on the left. Was all that was running through my mind. At the door there was an immediate visible problem, the door was locked from the outside.

I slumped my shoulders and sat down against the wall just looking at the door. An iron lock, I thought, would be impossible to get through. With my hands on my head and my head in between my knees, I thought the it was all over. I just wait for them to find me, or flee. Then in the silence I heard whimpering,  very quiet high pitch crying. That tiny sound just overwhelmed me, I could not take it just to hear that and do nothing. I stood up an attempted to break the door down, this thick wooden door. Shoulder barge attempt no 1, no luck, a gasp from inside. No 2, still now luck but seemingly the rage fueled me on. Attempt no 3, the door was moving and again after another attempt it became looser and looser. I kept on going with the hinges straining to support the door. Then I had burst through, the door came down and I with it.

On all fours panting heavily with my head down I hear just one word.

"Robbie?" I turned my head up and it was her, in a white night dress, her hair down and  tears down her cheeks from sore eyes. We immediately embraced, no words could justify what that moment was or felt like. After a while she finally ended the peaceful silence.

"My father will be back you know, I did hear my brother yell, it is only a matter of time" she said looking down with sadness seemingly slapped on her face. She then grabbed my face with both hands and looked into my eyes very closely.

"Oh Robbie, please say you have a plan, something to get us out this!" she cried. I simply just slowly shock my head back and fourth with my eyes watering up.

"First man who gets him to me gets 100 circles!" A shout from downstairs, Whoni.

We looked at each other now physically shaking,  for what brief moment we had, it was running out fast.

"I don't want this to end Robbie....I..I'll run away.. we could together!" Ariuy said clutching at my shirt. We could both hear the footsteps of steel boots crashing down on the wooden boards.

"Where to? Your father will look at every tight corner in the dome for you." I said with tears strolling down my cheeks. In frustration she punched her bed sheets repeatedly before looking back up on me.

"I'm not going to give up on you" She cried. That moment the footsteps were in the corridor.
I had my arms on her shoulders, "I'll be back for you...I'll see you again" I said before feeling the arms of two men forcing me off the bed and to the door. As I struggled I remained eye contact with Ariuy and said. "You'll never guess how wonderful you are". With that I gave up the struggle and got dragged out of the dor, that's the point I black out, a knock on the head had  me out cold.

I woke up on the back of a merchants cart with my two brothers looking at me, with Arco holding a bag.
"Rob, this is the best we could do for you" Brust said with a regretful look in his eyes
"Father had to distract them whilst we dragged you out, with all those guards around it wasn't the easiest of tasks" Arco followed up. I gave an odd look at them as I sat up on the cart.
"Soon as Whoni came and started demanding you, we all saw you were gone, knew exactly where you were too. Him and Cinero wanted to shoot you into the crystal." Brust claimed.
"Along with many other suggestions" Arco said as he gave the bag he had to me.
"This Merchant has been gracious enough to take you along with his goods, you're going to Hydlaa. The bag has enough food and tria to keep you going for a couple of months. Do not come back here, that would be a bad idea, you don't figure around here anymore."
Hurting physically and confused mentally I looked down at the bag then back up...
"What about my sword....Jou my rivnak...everything else" I said looking at the two like a pathetic groffel.
"Consider it gone Rob, tribute to Cinero. Not that he needs it, but it is the principle..... we will be in touch" Brust replied, nodding to the merchant whom proceeded to get aboard the cart.
"Ariuy...just promise me you keep her safe brothers" I said as the cart began to move.

"Shes out of our hands" Arco yelled in frustration with Brust calmly responding
"No promises, I'll see" he nodded.

To conclude dear reader that was my exit. The Merchant, as promised, dropped me off at Hydlaa and it being the busy city it was fended for myself a while doing odd jobs here and there. Sangwa Greenmoon eventually recruited me into the Dark Empire where I find purpose and ambition.  Arco would eventually follow me into the Hydlaa and along with Brust, both going to otherside of the Bronze Doors. I have not been back to the village, nor have I seen Ari, nor have I found another. Perhaps that may change one day dear reader.

Roberet stops writing and puts the paper away, he then picks up a letter addressed to him. He opens it and proceeds to read, his eyes widen as he processes the words on the page. With the letter understood he immediately bolted out of the Imperial HQ, got Joubert his rivnak and began to ride out of Hydla

[That is it, a rushed job I'd say but the story is there, there is a reason why the rush as this story is necessary to put out in order to introduce a new character....in game! Once again...all errors will be corrected at a later date :P]

General Discussion / Re: Hydlaa Trading Post
« on: March 02, 2013, 07:18:42 pm »
Thanks for reading and bothering to respond Taya. But, while I understand your concern, the storage thing does sorta miss what I am going for. I'm not talking about being a walmart in east Hydlaa. I mean literally trading. I have 5 iron and I trade with someone that has 10 rat hides. And the idea is not to stand around for 4 hours just hoping to make tria or bringing 500 books to sell for 30 circles a piece or something else that wouldn't make sense from a logical IC standpoint. I'm trying to get at encouraging RP between a wider pool of a characters. Many people need a reason for their character to interact with others, especially moody or difficult characters. This is one way of doing such things.

The point is not to wait for RP but to create RP.

If a character is weak then they should be selling/trading fewer things at a time. And don't most street vendors have a set amount of supply? How many people in RL set up shop outside of the local metalworking shop and go back in constantly to pull from an unlimited storage supply? What I am hoping to do is to try to encourage people to stop letting mechanics dictate RP, especially when mechanics can fall short of the possibilities and when they can also be changed to accommodate RP. If we all always say, "well I won't do it until someone else does it," who will EVER do it? ;)

The community could use some broadening out in activities and also getting to know other members within it. The Devs really can't do that for us. We have to look for and pursue new avenues on our own.

This pretty much is bang on.

The whole East Hydlaa trading is quite interesting. Essentially player behaviour V what settings/devs want it to be.
Be in game or real life, Merchants will always go where the money is and Harn's is where it is. But none the less some new avenues would be great, I will give some time thinking about it.
