Since I somehow got to post on the forum again today. I am in the mood to post some more...
The first pictures are uploaded on the Greenmoon blog (http://housegreenmoon.blogspot.com/).
The nice descriptions are from Yayelle. I couldn't do it that well.
The pics are uploaded with Frubar Frupic (http://frupic.frubar.net/)
Jilata sleeping.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/17680.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/17680)
One of the times I hit something too big and did no damage. Running away then so I won't end in the DR.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/17919.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/17919)
I wanted to draw some surroundings as well. And I found this nice few in the BD area. You are looking at the lake from the path leading to the fortress. That girl in the picture is a lemur called Metisi.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/18260.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/18260)
Another one with landscape. It is the small lake in the cave in the BD area. Metisi is the girl bathing.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/18315.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/18315)
And the DR. You are facing the exit. Maybe you can find two people on the picture. The one still standing is the mean diaboli who pushes people off the way and the one falling is Jilata. Don't take it too serious. I just was looking for a reason why I fall down so often and somehow that was my conclusion.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/18573.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/18573)
Well I hope you like them.
[edit: added the link to the pictures]

Well I hope you like them.
Yes I do.
The images suffer a bit from scaling down, but the details look fine when zoomed.
The sleeping fenki is well captured.
-
I specially like the one of BD area.
-
Interesting pictures Jilata. The details in the DR one held my attention for a time and I also looked for the falling fenki but couldn't find at this small scale. I like the charm of the sleeping Jilata drawing too. Love to see drawings of how players view their characters or others.
-
The sketch of the BD scene is very nice :) I like them all, really, nice work
-
Wonderful! I love the landscapes.
-
My former drawing teacher would say: more Black and White
Try to use more black and white, instead of so much grey tones, it will give your drawings more depth, it's a matter of daring i always say, but try it, you'll see what i mean.
Keep it up
-
I always thought about tweaking the contrast. ;)
Pencil drawings need contrast, indeed ... but even though the style in general may tend to abstraction, I like your sense of details in contrast to the general rule.
-
Sleeping Jilata is awesome. \\o//
-
I tried to work with more contrast this time. Never had drawing lessons. All I can now is selftaught ;)
I added the link to the pictures. So you need only to klick on them to see them in the original size.
Just a view in Ojaveda. Somehow I had no idea for any persons in there.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/18888.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/18888)
-
Very Nice, Really like Jilata sleeping. Keep it up
-
I think you did a nice job capturing the circular gates in Ojaveda in that last one. Coming from zero artistic skill, it's hard for me to really judge others, but I still think it looks very nice :)
-
You're really good. May I suggest you to try to use a smudge?
Poor man's smudge:
Roll up a piece of paper, just like a pencil, and use it to make shadings.
You'll see!
-
I tried using a smudge but maybe I should search for something that describes how to use it. I were a bit at a loss on how to use it.
Here my emperor Khado.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/18968.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/18968)
Another picture. It is an older one. One of my first I drew. I used some sort of wax crayon (or was it oil crayon? I am not sure what the exact translation is). And I used my left hand to draw.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/18969.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/18969)
The first picture I drew of Jilata. I found it again when I cleaned up my room ;)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/18970.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/18970)
-
Uhm, well, the lefthanded one is ... hmm ... interpretable. ;)
A general suggestion: Your characters appear quite slim. Don't be afraid of muscles, shoulders, hips... :whistling:
__
A "smudge" is any tool that helps you smearing the pencil lines across the surrounding paper. Starting with the tip of your finger (although it is hard to clean afterwards). The (semi-?) professional tool is called "Tortillon" (paper rolled up to a kind of soft stick which is easily getting dull while rubbing the graphite across the paper).
I hope this lesson (http://www.stormthecastle.com/fantasyartschool/artlessons/lesson7.htm) explains smudging easily.
Here a selfmade tortillon (http://www.learntoart.com/index.php/archives/drawing/how-to-make-a-tortillon-in-5-steps/) using a diagonally cut sheet of paper.
Follow the related links for more interesting tutorials.
Apropos "Tortillon": Very recommendable gallery of TortilloN @ DeviantArt (http://tortillon.deviantart.com/)
-
Jilata, nice to see more of your sketches. They all have a kind of naive charm to them from your not having had art lessons. And I mean that in the nicest way. Keep drawing things you want and enjoy, and the skills will come if more realism is important to you. Realism isn't necessary for art to be good and I always figured, if you work hard to make a picture look like someone photographed it.... what was the point? It would have been so much easier just to take a photo.
With more realistic art, I prefer subjects that would be impossible to photograph, or drawn in a way that would be difficult to simply shoot with a camera. I think the most important thing with art is to try to show or create emotion from people who look at your art. That is what makes art successful in my opinion.
-
Khado looks great! So very dignified. You've done such a good job!
-
Some really nice drawings!
You have a gift, use it to your advantage.
-
Thanks for the pic, Jilata! Love it :D
-
This pic is based on a recent RP which made her to avoid Hydlaa for a while and so she stayed in the wilderness of bdroad1 doing nothing than thinking about what happened. During that time I created a small garden when I was bored. Half of the flowers vanished one time. After the whole garden vanished another time I wasn't in the mood to rebuild it anymore.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/19045.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/19045)
I used a smudge this time ;)

I would recommend 1) blending more, like that other guy said. Your art would looks awesome with blending. 2) Buy Corel Painter Essentials 4 or Photoshop. For your sketchy style, I would recommend Corel. Look at my thread "Kaibane's Gallery" in Fan Art for some stuff made in Corel.
-
I've seen several posts suggesting you use more blending. While sometimes this can help add more realism to drawings, I'd like to add that I prefer to see the line strokes in pencil drawings and like a sketchier look. Blending hides lines an artist uses in constructing shapes in their drawings and can also remove directional lines indicating curves and such. While smudging has it's place and can be put to good use, it's not needed to create better work. There are lots of ways of using a pencil that show just as much depth and shading, and don't cover up your strokes. While it's good to experiment with different methods, I wanted you to know there's value in allowing the media used, in this case a pencil, to show through in your artwork.

you er attempted to use more black, but you still won't let loose your fear of using black, it's a matter of daring, don't worry if you mess up one drawing, it's only one drawing... Experiment more in the usage of black and all your drawings will get more depth!
[it's still a greytone, not black]
For the rest, keep it up
-
@Avathius: I won't use corel draw or gimp or a similar program. My drawings are drawn with a pencil and paper only and I won't edit it any further.
@Perlam: I think I know now what you mean with black. It is not possible with a pencil to get black lines. They will always be a bit grey. I would need to use coal pens to get it really black. Maybe I will try it one day. Not too sure about it.
Thanks for your answers and suggestions. I still try different stuff. And I have fun with it. :)
-
Your pencil may not make the lines black.
But your scanner interface or image manipulation program may. (Brightness / Gamma / Stretch histogram)
I am just not certain if I should really recommend that. The results may turn out unnatural.
-
You've got a wonderful style with pencils, and I love how you show the lines, like Dannae says. Charcoal pencils can be fun to add true black to a drawing, but they smudge really badly, and i've ruined lots of drawings with them while i was getting used to them. I don't see any problem with you just using a pencil and making a dark grey for the shading you want to do.
Your pictures are all lovely just the way they are.
-
smudging is ugly with pencil. you could try a black pencil or ink for more definition. my favorite type of shading is (cross)hatching, which also helps with showing texture.
-
If you choose to shade with pencil, you should use one with soft graphite. The harder the graphite, the uglier the smudging.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pencil
* Thomas Edison had his pencils specially made by Eagle Pencil. Each pencil was three inches long, was thicker than standard pencils and had softer graphite than was normally available.[36]
* Vladimir Nabokov rewrote everything he had ever published, usually several times, by pencil.[36]
* John Steinbeck was an obsessive pencil user and is said to have used as many as 60 a day. His novel East of Eden took more than 300 pencils to write.[36]
* Vincent van Gogh only used Faber pencils as they were "superior to Carpenters pencils, a capital black and most agreeable".[36][37]
* Johnny Carson regularly played with pencils at his Tonight Show desk. These pencils were specially made with erasers at both ends in order to avoid on set accidents.[38]

I noticed that I am using pencils with different graphite. Though I knew already, that there are different ones, I never checked the pencils I use. :whistling:
Anyway, here my latest pic. There is no story behind it. I was just in the mood to draw it ;)
If you can't recognize it: Jilata is sitting on one of the stones at the plaza.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/19296.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/19296)
-
Oh, I could easily recognise that. Good shading, well done.

It is located in one of the standing towers of the ruins. And yes: I really have been up there. If you want to, I can even upload a proof ;)
I tried to let her look like, she is enjoying that high place. Not sure if it worked though.
Too bad that the picture got a few strange light places through the scanning.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/19408.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/19408)
It doesn't really have to do with drawing, but I post it here to keep everything I did together ;)
I started another project, partly cause I was bored with the light armor of a fenki. It is nearly finished. I still try to figure out which small changes I want to do. Currently it looks for me like this:
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/19396.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/19396)

Almada once asked for dark armor too...
(http://www.ligh.de/PlaneShift/Almada_Oil_th.jpg) (http://www.ligh.de/PlaneShift/Almada_Oil.jpg)
Just a bit contrast play before auto-painting.
Hope you don't mind me capturing your thread... :-[

You don't understand. Blending is something that is good for creating better work. You don't blend the ENTIRE thing, you just blend the shading so it looks a lot better. Certain aspects of pictures cannot be captured through "random strokes to fill up negative space."

No, it is you who does not understand. Just because you think a blend looks better than lines does not make it the ideal way to show dimension in artwork. There are many many ways to show dimension, each with it's own aesthetic appeal. What you are saying amounts to no less than saying something like, a realistic looking drawing is better than a line drawing. It simply isn't true and is only your own judgement of what makes good art.
As a similar example, I like paintings just as much, if not more, where I can see the artists brush strokes as opposed to a smoothed out look. Sure, the smoothed look will most likely closer resemble a photograph, but the picture revealing the artists brush strokes will hold my attention much longer as well as give me a feeling of connection with the artist as I can see and imagine the strokes being applied.
-
There is even software which turns smooth pictures into images of separate brush strokes to make it look like art (see above the picture of Almada, it was made with Dynamic Auto Painter (http://www.mediachance.com/dap/index.html) by MediaChance).
I even saw a graphic demo which created a painting out of an OpenGL scene, and in just 4 KB of size: "Burj Babil" by Loonies (at pouet.net (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=54544) and scene.org (http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=/parties/2010/breakpoint10/grfx/executable_4k/lns-burjbabil_compo.zip&fileinfo)) - 4096x3072 pixels (http://loonies.dk/pictures/lns-burjbabil_hires.jpg)
Blending may look more natural. But the artist may prefer to express the art in a unique style, to emphasize the tool used in creating the result.
And ... on top: A big  for the manual work done. I tried to pencil-draw a PS creature once and remember how hard it was to make it look convenient.

It's funny how you can't seem to take a bit of constructive criticism to save your soul. If you're going to post your art online, you need to be ready to receive some critique. I'm not bragging about how "my art is soooooo much better than yours because I use a blender and that makes me special." I'm just trying to improve the talents you already have. You obviously have never used a blender before; as I said before, you don't blend EVERYTHING. Just shading. It's not gonna blur your picture, if that's what you're thinking. It's going to make the shading look a lot less like you used different gradients of pencil, and more look like actual shadows. Yeah, choppy strokes are pretty fun, but it's good to have some smoothness in the areas that SHOULD be smooth to balance it out.
Yes, sometimes you want to use choppy strokes of your pencil. It does express feeling. If I want to make a thumbnail sketch for something, or maybe a landscape, you don't want to spend time blending. But if you're going to do a full-blown portrait or a high-quality sketch, you want to use a wide variety of tools: a straight edge, blenders, charcoal, an eraser to help bring out shine (and also fix mistakes). I even use water (in small amounts).
Here's a sketch I made with some minor blending. I spent around 10 minutes on this, and I could have added in better shading.
http://twitpic.com/4tefqa
Here's a sketch I made with a lot of blending. Spent 20 minutes on this. Sorry for the fact that it is on lined paper. I'll admit, I used a small amount of pen to emphasize the shading in the most darkened areas, but only a small amount.
http://twitpic.com/4tei9l there's a bluish tint on this, if you notice. The lighting in the room I took the picture in is all wrong lol.
Notice the difference? Yes, I spent more time on the 2nd one. I'm just trying to offer a bit of advice, it's your choice whether to take it or not -_-

Corel takes a more classic side to computer art. While Photoshop has stuff like foilage brushes, which are kind of cheating IMO, Corel has a pressure-sensitive touchpad so you can push harder or softer, and it gives a loose, natural feel to drawing on a touchpad. And it has paints. ONLY using paper and a pencil can kind of limit you a bit, but if that's your style I won't bother you about it. Personally I like sitting in a sunroom and just doodling for fun. It's relaxing for me. But when I get serious I grind for hours on stuff, and I'm pleased with the results.
Btw, I like your drawings very much. You have a great knowledge of perspective, especially on that scene of Hydlaa square.

There is no special reason for this picture. I just got a good idea. That is supposed to be Jezzi.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/19507.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/19507)
And it is the first "human" face I actually like after I drew it.

I have it on good authority that Jezzi is flattered.

I really hate to hijack Jilata's thread with this discussion, so this will be my last comment on this point.
First of all, why do you say Jilata can't take criticism when it's me you are quoting here? And there's no need to be mean about it. Of course I know blending does not mean smudging everything so all detail is lost...never said anything that would indicate that. I also never said blending is not good. I work as a prof. artist and have a degree in illustration and so feel somewhat qualified to give opinions on this topic. I understand and use blending techniques often in my own work.
What I was pointing out to Jilata is simply my opinion that there are other, just as effective, and possibly more interesting alternatives. I don't like saying one way is better or necessary over any other because it is not true. Look at M.C. Escher's pencil work. He achieved a wide tonal range and high degree of realism most often without blending. The texture of the paper shows through from the darkest to lightest tones giving a much different feeling than if he had blended the graphite. Up close, you can still see the pencil strokes. Just because someone does not use blending in a drawing does not make it any less high quality or finished.
Edit: Totally expected more insults from this person as they have posted below simply because I have a different opinion than their own. Wish they weren't so needlessly mean.
-
I had fun trying to get different expressions. Somehow this reminded me of Karlyle, at one of the times Jilata hurt him. Since Karlyle pointed out, that he looks quite angry, it might even be, after she ran off. After all she doesnt think of him as beeing scary. ;)

Thank God.
Wow. Really? Don't bring M.C. Escher into this. I have a whole book on M.C. Escher. He's a beast. You are saying that he rarely used blending, but he did on a few of his best pictures, and even someone who is half-blind can see that.
And honestly, I don't care whether someone blends or not, but in my opinion, if they want to just rough-sketch things, then they aren't unleashing their full potential as an artist. I want Jilata's art to be better; I like Jilata's art. I just don't think it is entirely what it could be.
-
Jilata! Your technique with shading is epic-ly awesome~ Especially when it comes down to the diaboli race. So suiting! Great portrayal of emotion in that last piece, by the way. It's not easy being scary.
-
avathius, stop pl0x?
jilata, that one with the tower is pretty cool... i'm not an art critic. idk what to say, sorry. i just liked that one. :-X
-
::| The first detail I saw was the huge eye... >o)
Drawing workshops with anatomy lessons mention surprising proportions and simple geometric relations, nevertheless they are usually better than pure imagination.
-
I must been asleep when they mentioned diaboli anatomy... ;D

I am glad you like it. :)
I had another "project" I did. It isn't perfect. But it definetly looks better than missing parts if you ask me :P

i really hope that model gets into a future update (next update preferably), it always bothered me to see the armored riverling in it's current state.
keep up the good work!!
-
The reason can't be much worse than a flipped image, I believe ... but I won't edit a lossily compressed one.

keep skinning Jilata! looks good!
-
Hey JiJi why don't you post the riverling texture file here? Some of us could really use it. Or at least send in a PM.

The reason can't be much worse than a flipped image, I believe ... but I won't edit a lossily compressed one.
LigH: The skin was really messed up when I started. Parts were missing (the left side of the Riverling) and other parts were at the wrong place (tail and arm armor for example). And I started editing the compressed one cause I don't have a better one. If there is a way to get my hands on the original one then I would work with it.
Something that would really help me is if there were some screenshots or so where I can see how they used to look like.
keep skinning Jilata! looks good!
I am not sure if oyu can call it skinning. The most things I did was moving the existing parts to where they belong. I did add something myself though...
But thanks. It is fun somehow. Though I think there are other who are better than me ;)
Hey JiJi why don't you post the riverling texture file here? Some of us could really use it. Or at least send in a PM.
Here (http://www.mediafire.com/?w0ehm5pwj4pu8qy) you go. This should be the latest dds (the one I made the screenshots with) of the armored riverling skin.
You just need to compress it with in the materials.zip instead of the existing riverlinga.dds. The materials.zip is in the art folder in your installed directory.
And no. It isn't finished yet. But the last things there are left to do are giving me a bit trouble, so it might take a while. Especially since I have something to do in RL as well... and I still want to play Jilata... ;)
-
Well done with the armored riverling, looks great
And, in the wiki, there is this http://planeshift.ezpcusa.com/pswiki/images/3/30/Riverling.jpg

Thanks for the link. I was searching for a pic but unable to find one.
Now I know where those left over parts are supposed to be at :)

After a closer look, it seems that "Riverling" and "Armored Riverling" have a relevantly different UV map. Fixing them may not be as trivial as I hoped.
-

No they have actually the same. The problem with the armored riverling skin was that the parts of the armor were at the wrong places. The first thing I did was relocating the parts, so the armor is at it's right place. After that I just used "copy and paste" to cover the places where armor was missing. At some places the armor still doesn't fit together (for example at the head and one of the shoulders). I am still trying to figure out how to best fix it without having to change a lot...
-
The UV map is the vector description of the positions of mesh parts on the texture.
If the same part has one set of coordinates on one texture, but a different set on another, then both textures are based on different UV maps.
Unfortunately (or rather, of course) both models in game use the same UV map, therefore the "Armored Riverling" texture does not match that used one.

Hm... Lectures in which you are forbidden to turn your laptop on can have interesting results :whistling:

oooooooo! i love it, it has a very illustrative style to it.
-
^^ What Aramara said! I LOVE this last one!!!
-
Yes! This is the amount of shading and contrast I like! \\o//
And the kind of artsy content - of course. :innocent:
-
I am glad you like it. It was actually a bit funny cause I sort of stumbled over that expression. I was trying something else when I happen to get it in a rough scetch. First thing at home was to copy it with a pencil. I couldn't do anything else till I had it finished ;D
-
Not sure if it fits with the settings, but I thought if there is an Eagle Bronze Doors, there are Eagles in Yliakum. Then why shouldn't be there falcons as well? I hope there are some. I could RP owning a pet falcon then... ;)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/19800.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/19800)
For the falcon I used this (http://naturfotografen-forum.de/o234622-Falke) picture as a reference.
-
It does. Terea Lohdren (in the Purrty/Wayward backyard) is a trainer too.
Well done!
BTW: Milans have an interesting silhouette too, especially with the long forked tail.
-
Very Nice, Jilata
-
When you don't have the strength, you can always find other ways to add some to the own one...
Jilata attacking a trepor warrior.

I finished this picture last week already, but since it was a birthday present, I waited till now to post it.
The dwarf is Thob Ciscon, right in front of the tavern, drinking a beer. But Baruden modeled for me. Thanks for that again ;)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/20049.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/20049)
-
:D Where else do you find a dwarf. except the Tavern ...... and the mines ...... and the forge .... ahhhh, everywhere I guess
-
I told you already, but now also here in the forum: Your pictures are awesome!
I almost thought about trying to draw, too, but I'll spare you from that ;)
-
err... it seems to me is raising the beer with a right hand on the left arm.
-
I played a bit with some crayons I found. Inspired by Kiiro, the enki cub of Mrokii.
Since I already uploaded it, I thought I could show it to you as well ;)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/20506.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/20506)
If you have any ideas how to do it better, I would be glad to hear them.
-
amg how cute! *___* gee, it's adorable!
-
Boeven coughed a hairball ;)
-
Agreed with Mishka. Very cute and adorable. Nicely done
-
Something you might enjoy. I meddled with the round shield design a bit. The idea was given to me by a looted shield: "Eagle's Round Shield" (as it is visible in the buff window)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/20730.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/20730)
-
Pretty pretty. :)
-
Awwww! The cuuuub  Something about it reminded me of the Lion King~ And I -love- the Lion King.
-
I am trying to learn how to write in Sütterlin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%BCtterlin). And I remembered that the last time I did some calligraphy was already some while ago, I decided to give it a try again...
I thought it would fit into PS somehow. I decided to do a short introducion on the Diaboli race. Text and pictures are copied from the race description.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/20910.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/20910)
Now it would be interesting if any of you could read it ;)
-
It took me a while to scan those pics. So here are more at the same time...
Half a request from Haraun (I wanted to make some sort of character description page). Text is from Haraun. The logo is from the Felines Lair.
Here (http://paste.frubar.net/14111) is the full text.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/21408.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/21408)
I tried a bit with postures and got this picture. I didn't plan it like this, but I like it. After I saw how it looked like, I noticed that it fits my image of Dannae.
To get it to look like this, I drew it fully with pencil, then used some "auqua pastell" (not sure how to translate it. They are pencils you can use water after painting to blur?/smudge? them)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/21409.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/21409)
It seems the hair got some weird color from scanning. It is dark green on my paper.
Well... if there is a Kore fenki who looks like this, just tell me ;)
I drew the fenki, cause it was the picture I had in mind. I don't know any Kore fenki looking like that.
It had a similar progress of drawing as Dannae's picture, though I didn't use any water in the end.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/21410.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/21410)
Those are Joopiner Berries (desc from the game: Berries known for their sweetness, as well as their bright blue color.)
I colored those with oilcrayons and smuged them with oil.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/21411.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/21411)
-
The sketch of Dannae in watercolors is excellent. :)
Great work
-
Am I crazy or does that look like a Kansas State Powercat...
Nevertheless, great work! ^_^
-
the pictures of Dannae and the fenki are gorgeous. I love the elongated figures and the three quarters back view of the fenki. Very stylistic.
I think those pencils in english are called watercolor pencils. You draw with them and then use a wet brush and they turn into watercolor paint on the paper.
-
I am glad you like the pictures :)
I think those pencils in english are called watercolor pencils. You draw with them and then use a wet brush and they turn into watercolor paint on the paper.
That is exactly how they work. Thanks :)
-
The Kore fenki is my favorite. That style is beautiful, and your shading helps make the image stand out. The way the dress flows at the bottom and the sash give the picture a dramatic flare, implying that there is a light breeze. And then those feet! Just perfect how you drew them with just the toes flat on the ground.
-
You've been busy Jilata! How can I not like the nolthrir who unintentionally turned into Dannae??!! Love how she's reaching high on shelves for bottles as she so often does while serving customers at the RCD. Perhaps the tall thin elf she drew on the in-game map reminded you of her.
Always fun to see what you've been up to each time you get bored enough to draw. ::)
-
Wowwwwww awesome art Jilata! I love the one of Dannae! And the berries too :D
-
I had a bit free time at work... and drew a part of an alchemy table with a ball-pen :whistling:
Anyway... From left to right (the stuff on the table): Pestle and mortar, feather, pressed and dried pyramids (like those at Levrus shop downstairs), Carkarass tongue, (in the back) coamti blood, (in front) rat eyes
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/21575.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/21575)
Always fun to see what you've been up to each time you get bored enough to draw. ::)
Well... I guess you will like this then:
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/21576.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/21576)
Anyone who can guess what the reason was for the idea of this picture of a gobble?
-
Awesome!!! I love him!!! >o)
-
Great :woot: Really like them.
-
Lovely work Jilata, I really enjoy all the newish ones with color. Even with just crayons, the color nicely adds extra feelings into your drawings. Color pencils are great too if you have them. :)
-
Well... I was a bit too lazy to scan them separate... So here three at the same time...
I created a design for a new armor, which uses fabric and leather. The purpose of it is to be comfortable while travelling but at the same time a bit protective. I added leather parts to the shoulder, since I created the armor for Jilata and she carries her falcon on there sometimes.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/22619.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/22619)
I drew Kiiro again, a bit older this time. And well.. I like this expression of him when he looks like he is about to play a prank or has a funny idea crossing his mind.
I am not exactly sure what I used to paint it, and somehow that outcome is not exactly how I imagined it. But I wanted to show it to you anyway.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/22620.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/22620)
A not too interesting lecture, and a nice RP on the evening before, can have this effect. This how I imagine Rhyai. Quite furry and fuzzy, since she is still a cub. I didn't know the eye-color, so I used a light brown with a little yellow added. For the shirt I used a red-brown tone.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/22621.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/22621)
-
:woot: You drew my character? I love it! It looks awesome! I'm honored. That and you're really good at drawing a realistic fabric texture for clothing. ::|
-
Awesome. Rhyai is A-W-E-S-O-M-E.
-
Very nice, as alway, Jilata :flowers:
-
Rheyai grins victoriously. She keeps her paw on Oele's forearm, but turns to look at Karlyle with a defiant little glint, and then sticks her small pink tongue out at him, "Nyaaaa" sound and all.
Well... that specific part of a RP didn't go out of my mind. And so I drew it. At least the sticking the tongue out part ;)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/22654.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/22654)
-
;D Hillarious!
-
Gonna have to save that as my new background :P .....Of course, Karlyle's idea of this was more along the line of .... Cute >:( Hehe
-
;D Bwah hahahah. Excellent
-
Here comes a challenge! Try and draw Levai hunting. Do you remember him? :P Or you could draw Jasyus :O
Do your best! ^^
-
I actually drew Jasyus... here the result. I hope you like it :)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/22666.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/22666)
-
I tried myself at drawing Oele... it didn't turn out too bad. But I still think she looks a bit too old on the picture.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/22735.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/22735)
And here my version of Eardstapa. I tried not to have her look too old, but not too young as well... It worked somehow :)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/22736.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/22736)
-
It is sometimes surprising how low the eyes appear in a face of a child, because the size of the brainbase part of the skull is already quite large compared to the size of the lower parts, the face. The face grows faster with the age, compared to the brainbase.
-
I actually drew Jasyus... here the result. I hope you like it :)
I like this one, Jilata.
The hybridization of feline (forehead) and humanoid (chin) facial traits looks more credible than in many other Enki portraits.
Imho, by far the best picture you posted here.
-
Oele looks exactly as I picture her, except maybe that symbol is a bit too prominent. I really love the hair. You do very detailed work with hair and fur. It comes out beautiful.
-
I fooled around with trying to draw expressions on a face and ended drawing Oele again... This time she looks more like I imagine her.
This is how she looks right now. The hankerchief on her head to cover the mark was added and she currrently keeps her eyes closed all the time. And no... she is not asleep or sleepwalking all the time ;)
That stick is supposed to be an apprentice DW wand.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/22856.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/22856)
-
Looking very good Jilata \\o//
-
I gave drawing a try again ;)
You should be able to recognize this Diaboli. Not many with only one horn around, right?
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/23781.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/23781)
It is Telena for those who weren't able to guess it.
Now I actually forgot to scan the other pictures I drew... next time then I guess
-
I love this drawing of Telena \\o//
she's so cool! :D
-
Looks VERY good Jilata .... wtg
-
Are you certain that the tail has to be so thin? And the head a little bigger, I believe ... but the pose is great!
-
Next time came sooner than I thought.
This was one of the pictures I didn't scan the last time. If there are more, I will see when I find them again ;)
I wanted to train drawing a hand a bit. Guess big hands, not needing to fit into a context are compared quite easy to draw... same with well.. everything :P
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/23846.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/23846)
I found this view in Ojaveda and with the falling snow in that section, I couldn't stop myself from drawing a picture. No snow in my picture though
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/23847.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/23847)
-
After seeing Mellas' fenki drawing, I wanted to see what makes an drawing look like out of some comic. So I fooled around a bit, trying some stuff and ended up drawing Oele's favorite crazy fenki Lazarene (Miomai). There are two versions of her, using different drawing styles for them. I know that the head on the second one is a bit too slim. I noticed that at the end and didn't want to draw the whole thing again ;)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/24055.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/24055)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/24057.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/24057)
-
i don't think Miomai's ever been so adorable! The second one looks like a Jim Henson or Dr Suess rendition :)
-
I really like these drawings :) especially the furry one ;)
-
Another person is victim of my boredom on the train... this time it is Mariana
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/24101.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/24101)
-
 It's lovely Jilata. Thank you. I love the detail you put into your portraits, in the fur and hair.
-
The first drawing of Lazarene is my favorite. She is both cute, and, with the randomly lain fur, crazy looking.
The second one does look like she should be a side-kick to Fozzie Bear. You got all her jewelry correct; I like your attention to detail.
-
Good to know that you like it :)
Next picture was drawn with a ballpoint pen on a about 10 hour drive on the train back home from a few holidays. I started writing the past story of one of my chars and drew a rough sketch of how I imagined the area she lived in to have an easier time writing. It ended drawing an actual picture of one of the houses.
The area is a place in the death realm.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/24198.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/24198)
It would be interesting what you think of it.
-
I like it. Cool architecture and stuff. As always, great shading. \\o//

that's so cool I like this dark and strange architecture
-
I haven't participated in this topic although I've been impressed and intrigued. Great work Jilata! You have a vision, thanks for sharing it with those of us who though lack of talent, can't. I still think the house looks like a gourd ;), but I like it a lot.
-
I gave Oele a try again.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/24572.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/24572)
There is a bit more of a story for this picture. It is not actually a char IG. I just never really liked the traditional clothes those akkaios wear. They have too less cloth if you ask me. So I went and created some other clothes.
The ears might be big compared to the head. It is intended like that. When I went into the detail on the sketch of the clothes, I drew a few parts of the body bigger to have it easier. It just looked so funny with big ears that I had to make them big in the actual drawing again.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/24573.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/24573)
-
I know this picture is not PS related. Although I wanted to share it with all of you.
Simply said there are two druids in cat form attacking a centaur.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/24799.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/24799)
-
Very good! :)
I like the feeling of movement and the heat of battle in your picture, also you are skilled drawing kitties ;)
-
the horse portion of the centaur is really nice. The textures are phenomenal. You do a great job rendering hair and fur. Keep 'em coming!
-
My recent picture. Not PS related again. For those who wonder, yes it is a female Tauren from WoW.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/25056.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/25056)
-
Looks like a very well-drawn Minotaur, with boobs >_>
Very nice.
-
Looks like a very well-drawn Minotaur, with boobs >_>
Well... Tauren are more or less Minotauren...
Here another picture. The reference I used was a cheetah mother with cub, but since I changed it a bit so they are enkis, it should be a Blikau mother with her cub.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/25095.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/25095)
-
Quite similar to a photo (http://klaroh.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d296tkv) my dad shot...
-
 love that one Jilata!
-
Awwww... Too Cute!
-
I literally squee'd
-
I literally squee'd
>_> Dork.
Very, very nice, Jilata. :D
-
One of my recently created chars. Though it is drawn using the elf like they look in WoW and using a background from there, it is how Mireia would more or less look like in PS. Shorten the ears, use normal eyebrows and get rid of the glowing of the eyes and you would have her. ;)
Oh and I might be tempted to draw some requests. It depends on the request and if I get a good idea how to do it if I'll actually do it or finish it. I am lacking ideas on what to draw right now...
-
Pretty! :D
-
I promised to post the dragon I drew out of boredom. Here it is. I felt like drawing one... :)
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/25863.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/25863)
And another picture I am at. Thanks to the TAO members, I could decide on the enki pack and the dress color. I went with Akkaio in the end, since Kore looked a bit colorless ;)
Actually I want to add a background, though I haven't decided on one yet.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/25862.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/25862)
-
that fenki is awesome.
-
I like the fenki and the dragon too great work :)
-
Great work.
She looks like an experienced mother. Wish her the least of drama.
-
oh! didn't realize she was pregnant... thought she was standing with her paw on her hip. is she supposed to be anyone *ehem* specific?
-
nope it is no one specific. I don't know any Akkaio fenki who is a Laanx follower and is pregnant ;)
I wanted to make her a Xiosia follower first, but then had problems with the pendant for it, as that detail is too small to look good. I have no idea if there is any symbol for Talad. So I ended with Laanx as Dakkru, Vodúl and Black Flame didn't really fit.
I am glad you like it :)
-
*hint* ;) Ara just had twins.
Where's the Laanx pendant?
-
At the hip.
And congratulations, best wishes. :flowers:
-
*hint* ;) Ara just had twins.
Where's the Laanx pendant?
Aww... I didn't see Ara for so long that I didn't even know that :(
As LigH said. At the hip. Right above the braclet if that helps.
-
Jilata, I'm jealous of how well you portray fur - or enkidukai in general. :flowers: Wonderful work, as always!
P.S. That Death Realm house is glorious.
-
Enki fur is fun to draw. Or fur in general ;)
Ok. Another picture. Those two are Hazzanah and Oele. I think Oele doesn't look like the 5 years she should look like. But I still think it turned out pretty nice. Simply the background to it is, that Hazzanah works for someone rather well off and has to wear clothes which doesn't look too bad. Oele wears some rest clothes he could get here or there and fixed it with pieces of other clothes. Her clothes are not dirty, just have repaired a few times.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/25903.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/25903)
-
Remember that the relation between head size and body size changes while growing, as well as the relation between forehead and whole head (including the mouth). Preparing the drawing with a technical, geometrical draft is recommended in many anime guides.
-
Those two are Hazzanah and Oele.
::) Nice! Glad to see them both, here, at least!
-
This picture was a request of a friend of mine. He wanted it to be drawn a little different. So I did...
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/26005.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/26005)
No reason for this one, it is a postcard I made and wanted to show it.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/26006.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/26006)
-
I guess I still like dragons ;)
Little mini dragon. Maybe used to carry short messages.
(http://frupic.frubar.net/shots/26198.jpg) (http://frupic.frubar.net/26198)
-
After I got scolded that I didn't scan the pictures I finish, I finally did it.
As promised. Timil and Paulandra:
(http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/205/c/4/timil_and_paulandra_by_tharisai-d58fklx.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d58fklx)
This Ynnwn is Sopheap, a new char. Just kinda felt like drawing this picture.
(http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/205/2/6/sopheap_by_tharisai-d58fkic.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/#/d58fkic)
I started sketching one evening, met Aramara and we RPed a little bit and then I kinda felt like it could be Aramara. A young Aramara though. I hope it does fit ;)
(http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/205/7/5/a_young_aramara_by_tharisai-d58fktg.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/#/d58fktg)
And last but not least, a sketch I did today on the train. It is Oele sleeping. I kinda got interested in how it would turn out with this pen I only had with me. It is better than I expected
(http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/205/2/1/oele_sketch_by_tharisai-d58fkz2.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/#/d58fkz2)
-
I think it turned out very lovely Jil! Once again you've done an excellent job in rendering texture. Thank you so much, I'm honored :)
I like the last one of Oele, I like how you've sculpted her form with the loose pen strokes.
great work as always! \\o//
-
The relation of the head sizes between Timil and Paulandra seems to be exaggerated. Either Timil is a giant, or Paulandra is a kitten...
And regarding Sopheap, I wondered if this was the incognito return of Sov Head. I was told that I was wrong here.
-
I noticed the size difference too late... only after I finished drawing and scanning...
-
Beautiful pictures, Jilata! Thank you for drawing and posting Timil and Paulandra! I'm honored! \\o// And it looks like Timil has had a bit of a shave... funny, I've actually been wanting to remove his beard in-game. I wonder if the GMs will have another hair-cutting event sometime when I can be online for it... :whistling:
Thanks again!
-
That's actually just about how I had pictured Timil :) Very nice, Jilata.
-
I better revive my own art thread as well... ;)
I couldn't use a scanner like I did with the other pictures, so the quality of the photos is not the best. I hope you still like it anyway.
Originally I wanted to draw Zazhia, a Klamod fenki. For no reason actually, or maybe because marriage was already in discussion, I drew her in a wedding dress. A little shy looking like this, I am not too sure if it is still Zazhia. That is for her to decide.
(http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/276/d/6/fenki_in_wedding_dress_by_tharisai-d5gpb24.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/#/d5gpb24)
Oele, my little ylian child. The clothes were designed by Cirerey. Not much to say. She pretty much looks like drawn on the picture. Never thought I would get this close.
Anyway. I hate skin color. I am not pleased with the one I ended with, but it could be worse I guess.

-
both drawings are awesome :)
about Oele, she's exactly like I imagined her ;)
-
I love how you've done the feet! Both on Zazhia and Oele. They look amazing. :flowers:
-
Awww... Oele is very cute there.
-
I agree with Tessra
Both look very good.
-
/me snuggles Oele!
Lookin' good, Jilata!
-
I still can't imagine Oele. Probably because I still miss most of her existence... This image helps a lot.
And Zazhia ... was probably not so slender anymore during her wedding. She recently lost a few pounds with the support of Jecewie and Dr. Forita in the sanatorium. ;)
-
I drew it before Zazhia got pregnant.... ;)
-
I better revive my own art thread as well... ;)
I couldn't use a scanner like I did with the other pictures, so the quality of the photos is not the best. I hope you still like it anyway.

I love it! I am not sure about the face of her, but I looooooooooove the drawing :-D And Oele too! :-D
And, as some know, the wedding was cancelled/moved, so the cub is out. So Zazhia might look like that at the time the wedding will be. AND I love the dress. And the shy facial expression works, as she would be uncomfortable wearing a wedding dress.

Blame Mariana. It is her fault I drew some Klyros heads :P
I am currently working on a Klyros (one of those reptil like people with wings in Planeshift), and did a sketch for a head to have a better idea on how I want to do it when I draw the smaller version. That was the top of both heads, the one I think is more female like. I added later the other one, cause I just wanted to see how a male head would turn out.
Of course I didn't do it completely without reference. For the female one, I looked up "Leguan" pictures on the internet and the male one "Tuatara".

Aww. Baby Klyros.
-
Well first of all, I love the shading. Cross hatching? Was that what you implemented? I also love their eyes, even if they don't follow the technical jargon on the race page:
"White and drop-like eyes enable them to see in the dark. "
I always thought it was a bit strange to have no pupil or iris or whatever. Granted, they are reptillian, and depending on what you look at...
(http://www.wired.com/images/slideshow/2008/04/gallery_top_10_macro_photos/macro_photo_1.jpg) (Gecko)
(http://ipt.olhares.com/data/big/258/2583360.jpg) (Iguana)
(http://urbantitan.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/SNAKE-EYE.jpg) (snake)
Shape varies, but obviously they still have those rather vital components, the contractile elements of the pupil that can pinpoint what you're looking at like a camera's lens, etc etc etc. I was never certain WHY they were given eyes without a pupil, after a bit of digging what specifically NOCTURNAL reptiles I could find (since it specifically mentions it's a component of seeing in the dark) still were not in possession of an eye minus a pupil. I even looked up the components of an angler fish's eye, just to see if perhaps what they were going for was more deep sea dwelling fish. But same result:
So I dunno! ???
The ONLY thing I might add to the image would be that headfin. It's a very distinctive part of what makes a klyros, well, a klyros. "They have an oval head decorated with a multicolored crest starting from the forehead and ends at the base of the skull that make them look like a fish. "
-
I like you being bored. :)
-
Agreed. I like the picture of the Klyros, but for some reason there's some sort of emotion in the drawing of Oele that i like. well done.

I have just been scribbling the shading... I didn't even try to do it in any special way since it was meant to be a sketch to help later...
Aww. Baby Klyros.
They weren't intended to be baby Klyros though... guess they look like that after all :D
Alright... Mariana is at fault that I drew another pair of Klyros heads. I tried to give them more of a human shape. Well, exactly what she was trying to do.
For the upper picture, I used a turtle head as a general reference. Just made it more human-like in the lower one.
(http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/292/1/0/klyros_heads_by_tharisai-d5iairo.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/#/d5iairo)
Oele had been kidnapped and locked away. I changed the area a bit from the actual way it looks like in game, because it was too boring that way.
It is a corner in the sewers. A few mice keep her accompany and the candle she got in the beginning already burned to the ground.

Weell.....mice are nice? ;D
-
But rats are worse ... hmmm. A pity none of my chars knows about that, or a rescue mission would already being organized.
Furthermore, I'm confused again. Why a candle? I keep missing or misunderstanding at least half of her.
-
I think perhaps her captors gave her one?

That's the reason.

There is one organized. Or more than one.

And a separate mission to rescue the candle, as well!

Huh.... I have a wide bed, but no sofa...
This is my idea of a memory singers (Graalahkam-maarhe) of the race Enkidukai in the game PlaneShift. There is no clear description on Sarraghi Enkidukai yet, which have no model in the game either. I am pretty sure, that I am not the only one who would connect them to a Lion like look.
(http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/314/d/f/memory_singer_by_tharisai-d5kjrut.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/art/memory-singer-336845765)
-
Yes, this is certainly a founded guess. I believe to remember that the model exception of the mane was a reason to delay their appearance.
-
While the drawing is simply great, I do think that Enkidukai would focus more on fur coloring than on skin coloring. So I'd assume they have advanced hair coloring and pattern drawing on fur.
What I also really like: I'm very much into ear rings for enkidukai and I noticed this char has that
(To be honest, I have this ear rings idea from this novel series though http://www.saltmanz.com/pictures/albums/Cover%20Scans/Book%20Covers/Chanur's%20Venture.jpg Just to be fair)
-
Jilata, it's about time to post something! Please... :flowers:
-
Well, I did promise I'll upload some of my drawings. (Not my rough sketches, which I have a few more :P)
Capoeira
I guess a few heard that I am into some sport called "Capoeira" lately. Of course, some pictures are related to it.... ;)
Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance and music. It was developed in Brazil mainly by descendants of African slaves with Brazilian native influences, probably beginning in the 16th century. It is known by quick and complex moves, using mainly power, speed, and leverage for leg sweeps.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capoeira (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capoeira)
A Capoeira game is played in a "Roda", which is basically a ring of people singing, playing instruments or clapping while two Capoeirista are playing (you "play" Capoeira and don't "fight" it) inside of the ring. This picture is about two Capoeirista playing together.
(http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/035/4/1/capoeira_game_by_tharisai-d5tskax.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/#/d5tskax)

I got caught up with some germanic folklore. I drew some of the creatures of it. This is a "Waldschrat" and a "Wiesenschrat". They are kind of a puck living in the woods or the meadows. I don't really know how to translate the names.
(http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/035/b/f/wald__und_wiesenschrat_by_tharisai-d5tskoj.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/#/d5tskoj)

Waldschrat ~ forest goblin / wood gnome (dict.tu-chemnitz.de); based on Schrat ~ Bugbear (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugbear), hobgoblin (Wikipedia)
The shading of your two Capoeristas is well done. The one in the front is a little dark, hard to recognize; his "dreadlocks" made him look like one of those "rug dogs" = puli (front end is where it barks). ;)
-
I mirror the comment on the shading, well done! I like how edgy it feels. And I like the creatures from folklore, always found them to be very interesting. Thanks for the translation, LigH.

I've been wanting to draw an angy enki for a while. Never got a picture which pleased me though. Today I was able to do it. Originally I thought it should be Jilata, but since she doesn't look like that, I decided that it should be Mariana. The only other enki I've ever seen really angry. (Remembering that kidnapping part of Oele...)
Sadly you lose a bit quality when you take a photo of a picture
(http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/036/d/b/angry_fenki_by_tharisai-d5ty7ex.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/art/Angry-Fenki-352635657)
-
I LOVE it! Downright feral, just like I imagine an angry enki momma would be. \\o// And the shading is le fantastic.
-
I wanted to draw a hooded person for quite some time, but couldn't really get it done. The shading might need a little improvement, but I am pretty pleased with the result already.
I am not sure if the menki "Dabrok" was a Kore or not. Well if he was, then it might be him, if he wasn't it is just some enki (can be male or female actually....)

Actually, I think the shading - and the texture - is what you capture really nicely here. The most difficult thing is to get the perspective right for a portrait with this angle of view. But honestly, I like this one.
-
The shading might need a little improvement, but I am pretty pleased with the result already.
Me too. I find it quite elaborate and credible. Great work!
-
Been a while since I posted here. Not enough time to draw lately. Though I am overflowing with ideas lately. I tried using watercolors this time. It is my first serious try at it and it turned out better than I expected.
The "person" in there is a wood gnome or something the like.
(http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/134/9/9/woodgnome_by_tharisai-d659hez.jpg) (http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/134/9/9/woodgnome_by_tharisai-d659hez.jpg)
-
Interesting. It seems hard to use watercolor.
-
I used to be very much into water colors. The technique I used was very different than with other mediums. I typically used a very heavy, textured paper, then pooled on the diluted paint - pushing it around so that hard edges formed in some areas, and lighter in others as it absorbed/dried. In some cases, the edges were feathered or blended together. It was fun.
I have to say, your work is incredibly good, Jilata.
-
Congratulation Jil! \\o// it's very nice :D keep doing drawings like that!
PS may I suggest a coloured version of my favorite char? ;)
-
Yes, it seems like it takes great skill to use watercolors so I'm typically impressed when I see someone use it. :)

A good tutorial helps quite a lot. Or you have to try a lot of things with it. There are so many possibilities with watercolors I didn't think of before...

Having a sketch of Eonwind would be great  but perhaps I should have written: "my favourite char of yours ;)"

too many ideas that are running through my mind and want to be drawn....
Here a little sketch. One of the rough ones I usually rework later on. Maybe I will later on, because it looks like it could be interesting to do. But first I need to finish my other ideas...

Love it - she looks a little ticked off at the interruption

"The Enkidukai realized the doom that had come upon them, and the seers reminded them of the dying words of Gharruk, to head for the eastern mountains, to find a new home there. So they traveled, driven on by the perusing army that followed implacably. The Enkidukai watched from afar as their homes were destroyed, carrying only their most valuable belongings."

Reminds me a little on the bible tale of Lot's nameless wife, who petrified to a salt column while turning around and looking back to the destruction of Sodom.
You got the expression of silent sorrow quite well.

I've been wondering recently: Why are there so few smoking chars? I only met one as far as I remember.
When I think about it, there should be some smoking chars. Or smoking being part of at least one race. When you think about it, smoking in RL started at different places in the world independently... And I don't mean smoking a cigar, but smoking using a pipe. I read in some blog something along of that smoking with a pipe is different from smoking a cigar or cigarette since it is something you do slowly. You do it slowly, you enjoy it.
When you think about it, what do you connect with smoking using a pipe?
I think it is something calm and relaxed. Something you do when you enjoy your time with friends or while thinking deeply about something.
(http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/199/5/2/smoking_enkidukai_by_tharisai-d6e4m85.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/art/smoking-enkidukai-386527109)
-
I am not a smoker myself ... but from traditional people (like the american natives or the arabian nomads) we learned that smoking the pipe means sharing something common, even with foes. The Enkidukai clans will probably fit well here. Especially the memorial singers.
-

The memory singers were kind of the reason why I was thinking about it. I don't know why I started thinking about the topic smoking to begin with, but the idea was stuck in my mind for a while before drawing the picture.
-
Not PS related, but who cares :P
The idea for the picture was stuck in my mind for quite a while. I just couldn't figure out what was missing each time I tried to draw the picture. Well, seems like I found it now :)

I like the movement in that picture, but she looks awfully happy to be falling off of the moon...

No drawing, sorry to disappoint you. :P
I got into making small things out of felt recently. One of the more complicated work is this small little horse. The pattern isn't mine and can be found here. (http://nuno-runo.blogspot.de/2010/04/zebra.html) The height of the horse is around 6cm.
(http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/265/c/7/red_horse_by_tharisai-d6nczod.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/art/Red-Horse-402034333)
Not made of felt and definitely a little more complicated to make is following Ragdoll Kitten (http://dollmaker.nunodoll.com/cat/ragdoll.html). I changed the pattern a bit to have a standing kitten instead of a sitting one. If I had clothes for it, it'd be an enki ;)
It has a wire inside so I can move the limbs and the length of it is from the chest to the hind legs with around 20 cm.

Hmm... to me it kinda looks like a black Schnautzer.
-
Sorry Dannae, but I couldn't completely agree with your version of Sacho :P
To put it simple, it was too dark for my taste. Maybe it's because I only or mostly RPed with Sacho when playing Oele. And then I only met a kind "Uncle Sacho"
Here my version:
(http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/326/0/9/sacho_by_tharisai-d6v5cyc.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/art/Sacho-415115220)
-
Happy Cat Face. :) – Or rather a sly smirk? (http://cosgan.de/images/smilie/frech/o100.gif)
Also doesn't look as "old" as Dannae's version, or ... well ... "life experienced". But still quite smart.
-
The level of detail for the shading is remarkable, you keep improving yourself in this regard.
Still I have this impression of slightly odd proportions for the given perspective - this is not meant to criticize you, it indeed IS difficult to draw a vivid and expressive face for this particular angle of view, be it human, felyne or anthropomorphic.
-
Probably some rather wide cheek bones.
-
Thanks :)
Well, the proportions are always a little off. I used a photo as a reference. Can't seem to get the same proportions as in the photo. There are tricks to copy the propotions, but I like doing it just by eye. It's more fun and somehow the picture seems more alive this way. More emotion in it. Dunno if it makes sense ;)
-
Hey Jilata! Of course I'm sure there can be many ways to portray any character and it's fun to compare different perspectives. In my picture, I meant for the setting to be quite dark for a more dramatic feel, not so much the character's mind set. Certainly not evil! There's also the possibility that some computers make the picture darker than intended. You should still be able to see some fur detail in even the darkest areas except maybe the lower part of the left arm. It also can be challenging to paint a completely black furred character and still give it form with shadow, highlight, and reflection without losing the impression that the real color is black.
My RP with Sacho often gave me the impression of him as a brooding character, which I also attempted to show through his examining look at the unknown liquid in the bottle and the presence of what were meant to be substances and weapons possibly discovered at a crime scene. I had more of the same feeling about the character through his part in the long running out-of-game RP story collaboration between Mariana, Miomo, Aramara, and some others where he was wrapped up with the task of looking after and helping a lady nolthrir recover from unknown poisons. A link was posted somewhere here. It was a fascinating story I enjoyed reading.

You found those drawings again? Liked to play with the idea :)
Hey Jilata! Of course I'm sure there can be many ways to portray any character and it's fun to compare different perspectives. In my picture, I meant for the setting to be quite dark for a more dramatic feel, not so much the character's mind set. Certainly not evil! [...]
Well, I've been thinking about that Dannae. Sure, it gives a dramatic feeling. But also the impression it gives is, that the character himself is evil or rather dark aligned. Especially with the mixture of alchemy tools and weapon, it looks like he is up to no good. Even if I know he isn't.
What I would change to get rid of that impression, I am not too sure about that. Maybe getting rid of the knife on the table. Or changing the weather outside from the stormy weather to a sunny one. With that you've got some light coming from the back, which can have some interesting changes.
Anyway. I still like your picture the way it is :)
-
I didn't get a bad vibe from him at all. He seemed pleasant to me.
-
Well, my idea wasn't to make a happy scene or to show the character's alignments. Primarily I was focused on creating a dark, brooding scene with a bit of dramatic lighting which I also hoped Sacho would appreciate. As in real life, you can't judge a book by the cover or the character's traits by appearance alone. Even the nicest of characters can't escape bad weather or darkness.
I do understand, and appreciate your desire to make a picture that represents his character in a way you perceive and like to see him portrayed. You've done nicely there as to me he appears gentler and retrospective. As for the questionable proportions, it doesn't bother me so much. I do a lot of drawing and erasing at the sketching stage of my art until things look right to me. With enough patience, you can get good proportions by eye when using a reference.
I had a couple big cat references I referred to in my picture but didn't end up using them for proportion since the angle I wanted was made up. Mostly they helped me get a feel for how the fur grows and where the whiskers come out. Everything else just came out of my imagination on this one.
-
I guess that hits the nail on the head (if this saying exists in english), Dannae. I usually put the focus on the character, trying to show how I see that char, with alignment and everything else. If I draw surroundings, it is usually used to emphasize some parts of that. I guess I looked at the picture that way as well.
-
Boring work has some effect on creativity....
I tried to draw Oele a bit older. I think I got her how she might look like once she is 15 or so. She has grown and seems thinner than before and still hardly developed any feminine curves.
(http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/345/c/8/oele_age_15_or_so_by_tharisai-d6xj90m.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/art/Oele-Age-15-or-so-419122534)
-
Very nice :D ... poor Oele looks sad :'(
-
Unfortunately, the face turned out very flat. Shading may fix that a bit, but I believe the skull shape is just simplified, especially in the chin/cheek area.
But you could say it was meant this way, cartoonish on purpose.
-
I didn't do any shading and I don't plan on doing any. It probably looks a bit like I did since I left all the light strokes I did first on the paper and added the strong strokes later.
-
Not exactly a drawing. But I did the pattern myself, so drawing was involved in the process....
Now Sulaika has a groffel of her own :)

Cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!
-
So that's why you wanted to see a groffel!
-
holy moly that's cute, did you make it from felt?
also...would you happen to have made a pattern that's still floating around?
-
Yes, it's made of felt. The height should be around 6 cm.
There is no existing pattern, but I thought of making one. I kept everything I need to make one. And you just gave me some more motivation to make one :)
-
You should!
Share the cute groffel pattern with the world!
-
Wooaaa ! Ahah that's very cute :D
+ Nice sewing talent !
-
Two of the three pictures are older, drawn around early summer last year. Just found them again and decided to show you them :)
Starting with Ssanyu. He's an akkaio cub. I wanted to draw him when looking innocent after ripping apart a pillow and having the feathers flying all around him. I don't think I really got that expression right, rather it looks he is fascinated by all those feathers flying around. If you have another interpretation, it'll be fun to hear it.
(http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2014/003/5/0/ssanyu_by_tharisai-d70mg2p.jpg) (http://tharisai.deviantart.com/art/Ssanyu-424310497?q=gallery%3ATharisai&qo=0)
Everything started from a scribble. Knowing me, it was probably an eye. Then the next thing is added and the next and suddenly there is a pretty good sketch between some of my notes. That's what those lines are that doesn't fit in the picture ;-)
And for those who can't guess who it is: It's Telena Rakn.

Finally the picture I just finished. It's Eonwind. When I designed the clothes, I thought of trying to create some, which look like they would be some an alchemist might wear. I think they fit pretty good.

Just try, it will get better with every time you do it. And you don't know all my horrible scetches I threw away... XD
Anyway, something completely different again. I got told to show you guys:

And yes, I made it myself with a drop spindle. :)

Today I scribbled a bit on some random paper and it turned out pretty well expression wise, so I thought, I'll show it to you guys.
It's no one specific, but it is influenced by Jilata.

I'd just like to say that I enjoy your drawings, like the Telena drawing! Really detailed fur!
I looked at your first pictures in this thread and then the latter pages and I can see you've already done really well to begin with! You obviously have a knack for humanoid drawings! I love the details, especially with the fur (never really had the patience with hair and skin to be honest :D). One thing I would say is don't be afraid of adding large contrasts, it will make your characters stand out in three dimensions. I know I myself can be very scared of adding too dark strokes when I draw- but it can also be liberating to experiment with how to make your drawing really 'pop'!
Being bored can be a great joy when you draw, to relieve boredom and feel you're doing something productive with your time. Trust me, if you continue on with drawing what you draw now (and you really love struggling with what you draw) and ask around for advice from people who's art you appreciate you're level of skill will begin increasing exponentially.
I started out, just like you, wanting to show what I could do (I was also longing for that nice wizard's hat every developer has) and personal recognition. I was the most critical of my work to begin with but this community proved excellent for building up self-confidence and self-assurance (I hope it still is, haha :)). I'd advice you to seize the opportunity that this community once provided me :) You've got the craft down, elaborate on your craft and improve on every drawing you make.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of you :)

Wow. Thanks Baldur. I didn't think someone is still looking at those drawings.
I haven't been drawing lately. I am missing the time to do so and at the same time, I am missing the inspiration on what to draw. I do have interest in drawing some characters again, but at the same time, since I almost stopped playing PS, I am missing their personalities. I have to RP with someone for some time to draw something. Sadly during the times I can log, I have troubles finding someone to RP with.
I am aware of the lack of darkness in shading I do. As you said, I am a little scared to add more. I'll try to add more the next time.

I still look at them, and I love them!
