The Hydlaa Plaza / A Song of Betrayal
« on: July 06, 2013, 09:00:04 pm »
Hello everyone. Been a few months since I last posted. For any of you who use Goodreads (free) I posted the prologue and first chapter of my upcoming novella titled A Song of Betrayal. If you get a chance, let me know what you think. I hope Hydlaa is still doing well. Take care.

The Hydlaa Plaza / Fantasy story you might like
« on: November 17, 2012, 01:40:07 pm »
Wow it has been such a long time. Barely remember any of the names I am seeing. I spent years playing PS from the days where we used to run around and grab crystals until a few years ago. Most of my free time has been taken up with writing now and in case you do remember me or you really like to read fantasy, I would appreciate if I could get some feedback. If not, no worries. It is The Adventures of Weylin: The Thief in the Night at Kalkion.com. Its not some grand website, though it was a place to start. And it is not my best work just the first one in a collection revolving around the character Weylin. Thanks in advance...

Valbrandr - former Guild Master of The Community of Vaalnor and former member of The Dark Empire.

General Discussion / What difference a year makes!
« on: April 22, 2006, 09:47:52 am »
It has been about 2 or so months since I have been extremely active ingame in PS. Which I believe has made it a bit easier to compare PS to PS 3 months ago.. 6 months ago and so on.  PS is looking sharp... and professional these days for sure.  Huge improvements I have noticed in just a few hours of game time.  The Foilage system will be worked out im sure and be made even better.. but the land looks much better.. the game runs much smother and no longer hinders gameplay.  So to all the devs out there, I would like to say thank you.

Oh wait one last thing... I have not heard too much news about the new site.. but I think there should be a \"Donations\" icon/button that is very noticeable. Maybe none of that \"Premium User\" kind of a thing but allow people who are willing to send donations.

Guilds Forum / Changes to the Guild Structure
« on: April 20, 2006, 05:51:21 pm »
This may belong in the wish list section, however I think it is best here where people who are in guilds or are guild leaders will be more likely to check the threads.  I have not seen a thread on this subject if not lately then never.  But I believe we need to be able to structure guilds exactly how we want them.  Not with just the 9 levels.  But sub levels and sub groups.  For those of you who have looked at the six sects of the Mercenary Guild... thats what I want to be able to do in game.  Not just one leader... but as many as you want.. maybe with just one being able to disband the guild however.

But better guild structure customization would help so much.  And it would be unique in alot of ways because most games just have the basic guild set up.  I wish I could choose how many levels there would be.. and set up sub levels for each one like:

Guild Level 4: Merchants
A Shopkeeper
B Innkeeper
C Barkeep

This would also allow us to create larger guilds.  Like we could actually create \"The Merchants Guild\"... CoV would be one member, one sub group, as other guilds could be.. each of us could specialize in one thing (not that we couldnt do everything else too, but for the guild as a whole one speciality). And each subgroup would still have its own hierarchy within.  And furthermore, if the \"Guild\" was disband.. the groups themselves would not be.  If we wanted to have larger guilds I believe this is the way to do it.

The Hydlaa Plaza / Travis Meeks Concert
« on: April 06, 2006, 02:18:03 pm »
A group of friends and I are going to be traveling down to Arkansas to watch a Travis Meeks concert on Saturday. Travis Meeks is the lead singer for Days of the New.  I have been a huge fan for the last 8 years after their first album.  Myself Induane, and Archon will all be heading down there on this 8 hour drive with about 5 other people :).  I just bought the Travis Meeks live Bootleg CD... I hope the concert is as awesome.

I told a friend that I could help him out by promoting his band a bit.. so I figured I should come here first.  They have one song that I do like called Never.  The band is called Running Riot as the subject states.  They do not have a site as of yet but they are on Myspace where you can listen to 3 of their finished songs.  My friend is the Rhyme Guitarist.  Well I hope you enjoy...

Im not sure how many had high hopes for this one.. but I can in with very little expectations... and I have to say that I really enjoyed it.  I had not read the The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe in quite some time.. but as the movie went on I kept remembering parts here and there.  Either way I thought it was a well made movie.. and I would buy it :)

Did I forget to mention it has Liam Neeson in it ? :P

The Hydlaa Plaza / Baby Name Suggestions
« on: December 14, 2005, 12:29:23 pm »
Sorry to bother everyone in their busy lives :P.. but sometime before January 7th, I will have another little baby boy :).. but he has no name yet :(.  We have been going over names and Justena (my significant other) already turned down cool names like Bury, Thorgren, Vladimir.. and some others :P.. The only names we even come close on are Aiden and Ashton.  We are also thinking about Middle names but it is proving as difficult.  So I figured I would come here and get some ideas.  Here are three suggested names so far:

Ashton Michael

Aiden Michael

Aiden Alexander

Hopefully someone can help :) oh and our lastname is Duckworth...

Wish list / PS Calender and Holidays
« on: October 19, 2005, 02:52:54 pm »
Now before I start with my ideas I searched and found one other thread about a PS Calender which some people liked the idea but no one set it up from what I believe.  I will quote a few issues from the older thread:

Quote
There are ten PS months with 32 days each (I presume that it is each), so a single PS year would take less than a month of RL time.

This is a quote from Karyuu which is correct.  There are 320 days in one PS year.  Which there is 365 days in one RL year depending on leap years.  So after doing a little math Im trying to figure out how to set this up.  We need to link the two calender(why, I will get to that :) ), For each RL month there would need to be a reduction in 3.75 days or 90 hours.. now I dont know how complicated we want this to be.. here is one very simple way of doing it:

We disclude the first so many days of each month

4 RL months - 3 days

7 RL months - 4 days

1 RL month - 5 days

Now we could just take the beginning 1 - 5 days off the beggining of each RL month because to convert this would be quite a bit more difficult.  unless PS days are longer.. by just under 3 hours a day.  I also thought about cutting 12 hours off of days.. so each day does count for the date.. but instead of whats above it would be like this:

4 RL months - 12 hours for 6 days

7 RL months - 12 hours for 8 days

1 RL month - 12 hours for 10 days...

Now I believe this spreads it out too much and would effect my second idea.

Ok, now if we can get the two calenders linked together, then we can plan yearly Holidays for PS... these would all be IC RP of course.  A day that Talad did this... in which no one fights duels or guild wars stop for a day out of respect.  I believe this is a very good way to enhance the realism of PS.  What would be nice.. if we could get something together, in the MOTD while logging in to PS it could tell us the PS date.  But yes, I need more ideas and how to work out everything.

Edit: we need to get rid of around 1080 hours in each year to match the calenders.. 45 days.

Roleplaying (Communitive Storywriting) / Citizens of Vaalnor

Citizens of Vaalnor lend me your ears

Though I have made the acqaintance of each and everyone of you, I would like to know what path you took that eventually led you to Vaalnor?  Please do tell of your journey to the beautiful land of Akkaio.

*Valbrandr builds a fire in a rock encircled area not too far from the hut he inhabits.  Inviting each member of the Community to take their place by the fire on an unusually cooler night.

OOC:  If anyone has a good RP story of how they came to Hydlaa or an inhabitant of Akkaio not involved with the Community of Vaalnor feel free to post :).

OOC:  I have searched this part of the forums and I have not seen anything about who you would like to marry, for those who are.  Basically, if you are more attracted to one race more than another (All RP... unless.. :D)  and what you are looking for in a mate.  I will attempt to go first

*Valbrandr hopes everyone wont laugh at him.. hehe

IC:  I was born and raised in a Hammerweilder city looking at Hammerweilder woman.  A very sad life for me.... the woman very much resemble the men and some with more facial hair and dont get me started about their legs :).  At that time during my life I was more interested in adventuring then settling down.  It was not until I came to the grand city of Hydlaa that I first set eyes on woman who cared more about physical beauty then working in the fields and being the basic house wife.  It was easy to compare races here as Hydlaa seemed as a melting pot of all inhabitants of Yliakum.

It is nearing the time for me to settle down and finally marry.  And out of all the races of Yliakum.. I would have to say that Enkis are the most beautiful.  They are athletic, intelligent and I can definatly tell the females apart from the males. I am looking for someone who is Charismatic (hehe), a woman who would be an equal partner in the relationship and someone who would be a bad teacher (hehe.. sorry inside joke).

Guilds Forum / [Guild] Community of Vaalnor: SoR
« on: August 07, 2005, 02:51:05 pm »
Fellow Citizens of Hydlaa,

It is I, Valbrandr, coming here on behalf of the Community of Vaalnor.  We have taken up residence in your neighboring village, Ojaveda.   If you have noticed the occupied huts, do not be alarmed.  Before I continue and fill your heads with our tale, I would like to take this time to say that we hope to coexist peacefully in this realm that has plenty of resources to sustain both communities.

History

A short time ago, the Sentinels of the Ragnarok (SoR), were nowhere to be found in all of Hydlaa, or Yliakum for that matter.  Gone without a word to their respected friends from various guilds, an entire guild vanished overnight.  After what seemed like a short lifetime in Yliakum, Induane and Valbrandr stumbled into the tavern with tattered clothing that whispered of a perilous journey.  They were welcomed in and promptly served by Flare, the bartender.  Flare began to open his mouth but before he had the chance to speak, Induane and Valbrandr had taken their seats by the fire.  Flare instinctively went back to his duties.

As Induane and Valbrandr sat quietly by the fire, allowing an occasional grumble to pass through their closed lips, the tavern door slowly opened revealing the Ylian inch by inch.  It was Ashamn, followed by Lordbug and Jekkar.  The group moved to the bar, catching a glimpse of the battered men down by the fire with no recognition of them as their (Induane and Valbrandr) heads were down, staring into their ale.  As Ashamn, Lordbug and Jekkar engaged Flare in conversation, Flare ducked his head down a little and meekly pointed over at the two exhausted men.

Sheer excitement rushed over the three men as they didn't even use the stairs, jumping over the ledge to embrace their good friends.  However, they didn't find Valbrandr as plump and jolly nor Induane making his usual off the wall comments as each had been/done in the past:

Lordbug: "Hiya!"

A few seconds passed by as they waited for Val to say the usual, "Hey, how is everyone today?"  But nothing.  Induane and Valbrandr seemed as if they did not notice their old friends.  Ashamn was the next to step forward and try to arouse the two men:

Ashamn :  "Is the URPS still alive Val?  I have some new ideas that could..."

But still nothing.  Not a "Ashamn how is Port Calem doing?" or anything.  Jekkar was the last to speak.

Jekkar:  Juicy Fruit, we need you.  The FA would not be the same without your presence.

As Jekkar finished, Induane and Valbrandr looked up at one another and finally Induane began to speak:

Induane: We sent for help.

Ashamn :  Huh?  You mean the settlement that was attack some weeks ago?

Valbrandr:  And decimated? Yes.  No one came.

Lordbug:  We didn't know it was you.  If we had known..

Induane:  What does it matter who asked for help?  So, it could have been another man or woman from this realm? Possibly someone you still would have known!

Jekkar:  That is how it has become around here.  Have you been gone so long you don't remember the deterioration of the community?

Valbrandr:  Has it come to such things?

Lordbug: Well...

Valbrandr : You were right Induane, it is time for us to take leave of this place.

Ashamn :  Huh?  You are leaving Hydlaa?

Induane:  We feel that we must.  We came back to pick up our things and to invite the few good souls left in Hydlaa to come with us to our new dwelling, Ojaveda.

Lordbug:  I thought Ojaveda was inhabited by thousands of Enkidukai?

Valbrandr:  It is, The good people of Ojaveda drug the few of us who survived to safety inside of their walls.  We are indebted to them.  They have offered us huts to stay in as long as we feel comfortable there and of course we labor in the fields beside these dedicated workers.  I think now is the best time for this. We are going to rebuild what we have lost.

Mission Statement

The Community of Vaalnor is a community with no hierarchy: no lower class or aristocracy.  There is only a unified entity exemplified by three characteristics: Duty, Loyalty, and Honor.  Our main concern is the community, not the individual.  Even the land in which we dwell belongs to the whole.

We are a close knit community that spends our time helping one another.  At times we may be viewed as selfish because the community comes before outsiders.  The success of the Community of Vaalnor will be exemplified through each member of the society.   We shall grow together and gain influence but not through military means.  The Community of Vaalnor is going to take advantage of what we do best: Trade, Hunt, and Craft.

The Community of Vaalnor

Allow me to make one thing clear, this is an evolution.  We are, and will always be the Sentinels of the Ragnarok (SoR).  The Sentinels of the Ragnarok (SoR) will retain all our alliances and our alignment, Chaotic Neutral.  Much has changed in the structure however, which you will soon see.  This is just one step in the process of establishing ourselves.

Guidance of Vaalnor

The village will be governed by the Village Council made up of village elders. The Council members themselves have no power. They are merely representatives of the various classes of members. The Council is empowered by the community, and exists solely to benefit the community:  It is their Duty. If any member of the Council is discovered attempting to use his position for personal gain, he will be immediately expelled from the Council, with further punishment to be decided on by the Council. Each member is required to have his own full-time job. The Council has basic powers which include, but are not limited to settling disputes among members of the community, granting requests for secondary jobs to members of the community, setting rules of conduct for the community, and controlling the Guards of Vaalnor.

There will be one Council member for every five citizens.  An equal balance of Council members will be kept at all times representing the Artisans, Gatherers, and Merchants.  Members of the Council are members for life or until they cannot sufficiently do their job.  New members will be voted on by both the Council and the citizens.  Two-thirds of both have to agree that this member can handle such a duty.  Council members can be removed from office by a two-thirds vote from either the Council itself or the citizens.  Induane, Lishom, and I, Valbrandr, will be the first Council of the Community of Vaalnor.  In addition, to make a decision, half of the Council must be present.

Vaalguard

For the protection of our community from outside forces, the Community of Vaalnor has created the Vaalguard. Guard duty is mandatory for each able-bodied member of the community, male or female that is suited for combat. The Captain of the Guard will assign shifts to those suited, which must be fulfilled without fail unless the individual is pronounced physically incapable by the Captain or one of the Council members.

Suited:  Members whose main jobs would prevent them from being exceptional guards:  Miners because of the strenuous work performed daily and the Bartender because his/her job would not keep them in fighting condition.  Other merchant jobs will be on a case by case basis.

Primary Jobs

Each village member is required to have one full-time job of his/her choice. This is to be his main responsibility in the community although he/she is allowed to take on other responsibilities as he/she believes himself/herself capable and with the sanction of the Council. The jobs that are necessary for the survival and success of Vaalnor are: (1) Artisans of all kinds and their apprentices, (2) Gatherers: whether it be through Mining or hunting, (3) Merchants of various sorts, (4) Scholars: Individuals studying the different fields of Magic, and (5) Explorer: people who would care to search out the land instead of slaying its monsters. When an individual is desirous of taking a place in the community, he is required to submit his job description to the Council to assure that he is fulfilling a necessary and valuable task within the community.

They include, but are not limited to:

(1)  (1) Artisans: They are, but are not limited to:
Smiths, Masons,  and Architects

(2) Gathers:
Hunters and Miners

(3) Merchants:
Shopkeeper, Innkeeper and Barkeep

(4) Scholar :
Members studying fields of Magic

(5) (5)Explorer :
Cartographer

Secondary Jobs

Members of the community may apply to hold certain offices in addition to their chosen vocation. The final decisions are made by the Council, and only the Council has the power to appoint or remove an individual to or from any office.

The term Secondary Jobs refers to, but is not limited to:

Village Council, Bard, Inventory Manager,
Captain of the Guard, Village Guard,
Banker, healer, guide
