Becoming the Masque - Costumes
« on: January 01, 2012, 02:58:11 pm »
Thanks to a suggestion of Nightflyer0ne I'm going to start a thread now where people can post the descriptions of their costumes for the ball. I was very impressed by many of the costumes and it would be a waste if they just get lost now, so lets collect those nice descriptions here.

Dharah's Costume:

The figure appears to be a slender and fit woman of small stature. She moves with a flowing, liquid grace, and this, along with the skin showing beneath her costume, reveals her to be a Nolthrir. It is impossible to tell her age.

The Nolthrir wears a white oval mask of papier-mache that covers her entire face. Aside from the eye-holes, the only other facial features are a pair of red lips, painted in a pretty pout. The rest of the mask is decorated with black ink, depicting undulating staves of music, complete with notes, across forehead, cheeks and chin. A close observer and student of music might mark that they are the notes to the song "Music Alone Shall Live." Attached around the top and sides of the mask are two layers of ribbons in rainbow colors that cascade down her green hair and around her masked face.

The Nolthrir is garbed in a low-cut bodice composed of strips of multi-colored silks sewn together, and embroidered in thread-of-gold with more music notes, treble and bass clefs, and other musical notations. The sleeves are equally striped to the elbows, and there they split apart into a rainbow of many ribbons, leaving the forearms bare. Her bodice is close-fitting to the hips, then flares out into a multi-layered skirt of the same gauzy strips of rainbow fabrics. The pieces of her skirt flutter and float with each movement or passing breeze, and one can sometimes catch a glimpse of close-wrapped trews in darker rainbow colors covering the legs beneath. Each ankle bears a ribbon sewn with little bells that jingle as she moves. Her feet are bare.
Giving my multiple personalities some playground space, one alt at a time. ;)

Telena's costume:

Telena wears her hair open. It is mostly covering her back. Knotted into her hair are some red threads, with fire caracass feathers into it.

[Dress]
Dark-red leather coveres her chest and her belly. It is holded by red leather tapes on her back which cross in a X-shape. Starting from her hips she has a long fire-red skirt, which reaches down to her ankle. The bottom ends in a zigzag. Over it with the same form is a thin silken cloth. It's black color darkens the red of the skirt and plays with the light, partly reflecting it and darkening the shadows. Sewn onto the the silk are some fire carkass feathers.

[Mask]
She wears a simple mask, made of the same dark-red leather she is wearing. The mask is only covering her eyes. Three fire carkarass feathers are fixed at the middle of the mask in a fan form, covering her forehead.

[Yewelry]
Telena wears a simple necklace around her neck. It simply consists of a silver chain, with a pearl on it. Below the pearl, looking like it is hanging from it is a tear-shaped rubin.
She also wears a bracelet made of pearls on her right arm.

The mask was for the ball, but she liked it so much Icerra continued to wear it for days afterwards. The blanket shroud is the result of prior RP.

Icerra is masked.

A petite and unassuming domino mask adorns her face, covering the area around her eyes, from the ridge of her crown to edge of her nose. It is form fitting, and looks to be made from a polished black onyx, highlighted with bands of color. It has a vitreous luster.

From the top of the mask stands a plume of feathers, downy at the base, but gaining in size and hold as they climb. They are black, but as they catch the light, they sheen in greens and violet.

Draped over her is a heavy shroud, fabricated from a sanitarium blanket. It  covers her almost completely from the neck down. It is fastened around her throat and down the front with bone pins, a job done in motherly care. It is tattered and frayed up to the tops of her shins, and the lower portion is covered in a fine grey dust, muting the once proud royal blue fabric into a dull lavender. There is no way of knowing what is or isn't concealed underneath, short of having  x-ray vision. [If you have X-Ray vision, let me know, I'll give you a description]

Her eyes are teal, and stand out in contrast from the mask and a coating of grease paint around her eyes.
all blessings to the assembled devotees.

An asymmetrical, roguish grin of sharp teeth is carved below mischievously narrowed holes for green eyes in a mask of blackened wood which is splattered with vertically flowing fiery colors. Warm-hued eyespots on ears each lined with three ragged holes peek out from its rough-hewn crest.

Angular red, orange, and yellow stripes adorn black fur, while an unhealthily thin body is hardly covered by bones dangling from brown strings tied over its shoulders and hips.

A spiral-shaped Red Way glyph is clutched in her right hand.

This Enkidukai speaks in a rough growl that sounds as though it belongs to a man.

Lillia wears a stark, white full face mask that has colorful floral details down the sides and black lined eye holes. The mouth of the mask is quirked up into an impish grin. Light green eyes gleam from behind the mask.

Her long blue green hair is extensively curled with some of the curls falling into her face and framing her mask. On top of her head is a silver tiara with an emerald set in the middle of it. It is ornamented with silver leafs. Glass rhinestones are arranged in her hair, dangle from her ears and are matched by equally cheap looking rings and bangles. Her floor length dress is cut in a flared skirt, princess style and has many layers, but it is made of coarse materials. It is also decorated with various ribbons, lace, and frills. The dress completely covers her.

If I ever get around to finishing the pic of Lillia's outfit, I will post the pic of it.

Solita Desolo wears a heavy red cloak which only covers head and shoulders. Beneath, a wooden mask covers the upper half of her face, revealing only the mouth area; the left side shows a handsome, dark-tanned male face with black hair; the right side shows a pale cute female face with white hair; there is an additional layer of a slightly diagonal iron mask across the painted wood, covering the eye and cheek of the female side, with just enough distance to the wood to recognize it as separate.

Erelenga Karal wears a costume made of light but stiff material, resembling spikes of stone. The matching mask covers most of the face, but with enough distance not to sweat too much in it.

Nice idea Dharah and thanks Aiwendil for starting the topic. Dharah began a similar thread on our guild site and one here is a good way to see all the others who post. I read as many as possible during the event, but still had to skim to keep up with everything going on. Mine was already posted as a drawing but I'll add the description here:

Amply revealed blue-green skin and waist length black hair entwined in multitudinous bunches with hundreds of adorning starphire stems and blossoms, might be the first things to catch an onlookers eye. Otherwise, it might be two overly large blossoms making up her mask, one, a starphire, covering the right eye which slightly overlaps a snowbud covering the left.

Circling and crossing her body back and forth, from just below shoulders to midriff are a myriad of thick and thin vines, again adorned primarily with starphires, but also with thicker blossom groupings of larger snowbuds in areas requiring modesty. Large green leaves form a jagged bottomed skirt between navel and mid thighs.

Roled missed most of the events but he did make it to one! For those who care about the elfboy's fashion sense, with thanks to Chays and Monala for the design.

Roled is clad in a fox-like mask covered with red fur to match his natural hair, save for a white mark between the eyes. The nose tapers to a dangerous-looking point, and the mask appears to be giving you a sly smile. It appears to be attached to a headdress - a long mane of more fur, in a shaggy mop that falls to mid-back.

An equally shaggy, bushy tail protrudes from his tight red leggings, the white tip tapering to a point as sharp as the nose. The point theme is followed in the open vest, the fabric meeting at the navel.

Broad, fingerless bracers continue the use of the fur, flaps that one can fit the fingers into or leave loose for better movement on either one, shaped like a fox's paws.
