Wish list / Difficulty Servers
« on: May 09, 2013, 01:44:24 pm »
I just had some thoughts about the game being too hard on players, and watched as every suggestion for making this game easier would go unimplemented. But Just as we have non RP and RP servers, these may just represent difficulty. Is there be a possibility to create another server instances? e.g:
Easy - all mining spots are marked with signs, skills require less PP/money, monsters are easier to kill it's easier to loot nice items. there are more hints on how things work, just like the tutorials, but covering more topics (picking up some material gives you hints what you can do with it and with which skill ). materials are easier to mine. Yes, just a plain noob server instance ;)
Medium - only basic minerals are marked (lets say coal + iron), skills require a little more PP/money to train, items cost more and there are less hints overall.
Difficult - no mining spots are marked. just a normal game
Hard - (RP one) - RP required, e.g: speaking ooc publicly can make you lose skills.

with each difficulty/server mines can be placed in different locations, monsters can have different strengths, npcs can be located in different places. (but doesn't have to).

Why?
I always found myself enjoy the game, master it more and more and then say: "Hm, I'm doing very good, and this is starting to be too easy to be rewarding... I'll try something more difficult" And that made me stay with the games for longer time than I thought I will.
How is that better from starting from difficult mode ?
For me? there's not much of a problem to start from difficult mode. I'm a patient guy, but not all of gamers are (and i'm pretty sure most of them aren't), and if all they have to do is have a great amount of problems before they even start to enjoy the game, they can as well not launch it anyway.

I'm not saying make this game easier for everyone. After spending a lot of time on developing the game I'm pretty sure you know it in and out. You know where to search for information, and where to find minerals. But not all players do. Let us enjoy the game, and then switch to the point when we want to explore on our own and make things more difficult.

On the other hand, just send your kids for their jobs instead of school, just for the sake of 'easy is lame'... Just kidding ;)

Well, just to be sure. We're not talking about 'first someone hacks our server, then we close planeshift for a month or so and when we're up, we let you pick a free minigame' :P
------
Because at first, gaining levels and cash was way easier than now, newbies might not keep up, but that's not the point.
What I would like to see is:

1. When your player is weaker than (lets say 3/4, but pick your own point) of the players, you gain a bonus. until you reach that level, you get more experience than you would usually do.
2. When you are not logging into the game for X amount of time (let's say 2 weeks). you gain a temporary bonus of some sort too. If you were training alchemy last time, you gain some more alchemy stuff, if you were training sword you get a good sword. This is to help people get back on track with their characters' skills.

The overall point would be:
1. get players back as soon as possible
2. help people keep up with their characters growth in case they thought it's too hard and left the game 'for now'.

Wish list / wishlist questions
« on: July 18, 2010, 09:11:59 am »
I don't get it... so please explain. I just found (and yeah I know it's propably been there for ages etc) this point of wishlist rules:

# You want to suggest things that are in completed games and are just not here yet, or anything else in violation of the guidelines below

So, Question 1: Doesn't it just make wishlist forum section completely pointless? If we want to see something (and there's like 100% we've seen it somewhere, or it it in some other game out there) You'll just say Planeshift is not finished product and you'll feel fine (by you, I mean anyone who decided to create wishlist).

Let's get an example:
Request: I would like Planeshift to be more playable. (yeah yeah i know planeshift must be unique and while other mmos are playable PS must be unique at this point too ;) ). The levelling system is too much trouble for most players to bear.
And here we get our 3 points:
    * A new idea that could be used in the game mechanics
    * A variation on an old idea that could be applied (preferably in a unique way)
    * Comments on a current idea and how you think it could be changed

Well, when we want some better levelling system, we propably think planeshift levelling system sucks because we've seen better system somewhere else.
So you can automatically ignore our post and mark it as violating board rules.
So what should we do? ask the other game developers to change their game status to beta so you can accept our request?

Thinking out completely new (because you like your unique-ness) system is pointless, because THERE ARE ALREADY well thought systems, but then you don't want to apply them, shielding youselves with BETA/SOON/VIOLATING BOARD RULES (pick your choice).

and also, why I'm here, why won't you move some bugs from old bugtracker to new bugtracker? I know it looks better where there are less bugs on the wallpaper but please... that's not the point of a bugtracker, if you're going to put a new bugcktracker system every now and then, why not to just add some new statuses like "works for me", "too lazy to fix" or something like that :P I'm a developer, and what you're doing is wrong.

Then Let's get back to our Question 1:
why do we have this forum section if you don't really going to change game to players' likeness?

I also won't say project need more and better developers because there's rule to that :
    * Saying we need "more" or we need "better" isn't enough, and threads asking for this will be deleted.

also asking for ideas that are doing their jobs well in other projects is useles:
    * Do not suggest things just because they're in another game.  (of course, why to learn from other's experiences, it's better to make our own mistakes and make it take more time)

And before you ask 'Why?' :
Reason 1: Because I don't know what wishlist is for, if all requests are going to be cancelled anyway.
Reason 2: Because I don't know what developers are thinking about the project and what they actually want to do with it in the future (because making it better doesn't seem like it).

Forgive me asking difficult questions, don't be opera - listen to users and apply to their voices

How to turn this feature off?

By adding this feature game loads awfully slow, and even when you're standing somewhere in hydlaa plaza, and someone ask you for a place, you say 'I know where it is, follow me please' and at some point of walking next group of shaders loads up and freeze you in some point of path you were leading new player through, leaving you there for at least several seconds.

so back to topic: how to disable it, so I can play normally, like in the old days?

gcc / CS not usable?
« on: November 19, 2008, 03:58:00 pm »

it's opensuse 11.1 beta 5 yet this rather can't be related to my distro being beta.
the EXPORTs were done like. Developement guide is quite a bit hard to read but i guess it's fine reading it from source.

1. Updater will update from every version and will download every fix.  (to save time and bandwidth)
2. updater will start itself at each game start to save people the trouble of running it. (to keep unexperienced players in the game, not forcing them to leave just because it does not work). - If you don't like console looking updater it can be buildt-in the game as progress bar and saying (Checking for updaets) or something jsut to look nice. but it's still good when console updater runs itself with the start of the game, helping not experienced people with keeping the game working.

This will propably need to redo the updater from scratch - I don't know. However, it will help a lot keeping people in.

b)
Exiting the game of planeshift -
1. After quitting the game you are moved to the login screen
2. After server restart you are moved to login screen
3. After GM kick or ban you are moved to login screen.(haven't been kicked for a piece of time so dunno how this really worked, just assuming the same way as two upper ones)
4. after others usually closing-window-things you are moved to login screen (hm, excluding the bug crashes which usually just need to close the application.)

This, and all will agree, is very annoying and i guess all want this to be implemented. the game takes some time to load on some computers and starting the game again just because server has been restarted is plain wrong. Especially when someone doesn't have a new computer.

c) and just a question
hydlaa.com ->   Server: Offline  Players: 90

I thought this bug was fixed earlier. shouldn't the new releases not contain old bugs? ;)

I guess all people would just love two given issues changed. I also know this idea was talked a lot about. but then again... why it isn't in game for that long when so much people demand it? Maybe it's not a must-have in game, but i guess most of you will say: "Yeah, he's damn right, i want this in game too!"

to be exact: i don't want people to answer the questions here. just consider and do as they like.

General Discussion / a trip to the woods
« on: March 20, 2008, 06:32:28 pm »
That day, Edicho decided to go for a trip to the woods... to listen some nice nature sounds, birds, and for some hunting.
While he was walking through the forest he became hungry. But he was too weak to hunt some good food. So... - Edicho decided - unfortunately i have to get some other food, at least noone watches this....

And so.... Edicho picked up some mushrooms that grew in the forest between some rocks and bushes, they were tasty and Edicho fell satisfied that he picked them up and eaten. However, he started to feel strange, his sight started to play tricks on him and he started to see odd things around him. The trip to the forest ended as a nightmare and a wise decision for the future was made:

So... here are some things that we discussed on IRC and i want you all to read it. Let me know your opinion but please do NOT offtopic, i want to hear your yes or no. (if no, give me the reason). Do NOT reply to others posts, only mine please. So...Here we go...:

Guilds creation fee 200k-500k - (will need newbies to be in game for some time before creating a guild and know each other, or let them find guild that suits them)

those are too lazy to use "/tell playername message" - use "/invite playername" instead for free temporary group

Guild leaders - Are restricted to take care of their members, should learn them roleplay, using OOC and IC, and tell them to not using OOC on main tab. forced to learn recruited ones so he knows what ooc and ic is and how to use them. Should point to the forums to read (carefully and with understanding). Teach members about everything but quest solutions.

Guilded members - Those who are guildmembers/leaders are not allowed to use OOC on main tab (even with brackets), doing so allows any player to petition guildleader to kick member for breaking the rules. Guild members are allowed to ask their guildmates only (will force guilds to be experienced, and leaders to be responsible for members).

OOC and brackets - only not guilded people are allowed to use it [in brackets of course] until they know what's going on, if anyone wants to help him/her and teach him/her, use "/invite playername"

Guilds - Each guildleader have a month to clarify rules, ranks, and eventually some story for his guild. Take a serious name which will properly describe your guild (do not choose warriors, fighters if any of your member will not fight if challanged). Guild which haven't managed to create rules etc. are deleted. Similiar guilds are merged if needed [will need GM help on that if possible]

General Discussion / Auction rules...
« on: October 28, 2006, 12:07:49 pm »
I'm not really sure about these things on Auction channel so it's always better to ask: (i wish some GM's/DEV's post their opinions too :) )

Should we allow buy requests if someone is not running regular business (in examlpe Alliva is ok as he always buy weapons and other stuff)

Should we allow "offers on /tell" when someone is selling weapon? (i thought auctions are public don't they?)

Thank you in advance....
Edi
