What are your pc/mac specs? What OS are you using? Have you updated anything recently, has there been an automatic update? Is it warmer than usual ? Heat can do strange things to both desktops and laptops. When was the last time you cleaned it, could be full of dust, try something like Core Temp to check cpu at least.

In-Game Roleplay Events / Re: Magic Fair - event announcment

Thanks for the wonderful event, Diggah enjoyed himself immensely. Much informative discussion, both IC and later OOC. A great variety of spell effects were demonstrated, they are very good quality now. The auction held a few surprises, fireworks display was awesome....... and nobody died.  \\o//  \\o//  \\o//

This sound fix was for an older client version, and worked brilliantly for me. I don't think it would work with this version however. Try this, in the Planeshift Launcher go to Audio, tick Enable Sound, then choose OpenAL for Sound Renderer, not Software. Log into Planeshift and hopefully you will have music, sound effects etc.
I'm not sure if OpenAL is included as part of the client now. If not google it for your Operating System.

The problem with using mobs that give high damage values against an unarmoured character is that death comes well before 100 hits. The only way I could generate sufficient runs, with a large number of hits per run, was to use very low damage weapons to enable defensive stance against a low damage control mob.
I am sure there are dev tools available to make a character unkillable yet still register damage taken. These would give more accurate results.

Tested with no armour, using ruined SBA 1/50 [ to give enough time on each run for mob to provide sample] on Rogues in Sewers in Defensive Stance. All  Stats 200 except CHA 250.

No defensive buff. 0.00-2.42 Damage.

Defensive Wind [AW 81] Same as No defensive buff control runs.

Rock Armor [BrW 21]      Same as No defensive buff control runs.

Water Barrier [BlW 50]    Every Rogue hit failed to do damage. [eg The Rogue hits you on the head but fails to do any damage!]

Conclusion: Water Barrier at least is working to an extent. Other defensive buffs may or not be, only tweaking the effectiveness of the buffs upwards would enable us to generate significant data.

In-Game Roleplay Events / Re: Magic Fair - Planning Stage

Promises to be a most interesting event. I doubt my DW Master could contribute any more than Tuux, possible to perhaps be close with another of the less common ways if I have time. Hope there is opportunity for an OOC discussion about the future role of magic in PS. Presently thinking about future need for both CC and snare/slowing effects to deal with groups of mobs with herd/social help responses. When improved mob ai is implemented we will need some tools to cope with them.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: New Stance Command
« on: June 24, 2011, 05:59:06 am »
This is how I am using it at present. Three binds to different keys. First key /attack [default normal attack], second key /attack raise [each time you use the key will go up one stance level, -aggressive-bloody], third key /attack lower [each time you use the key will go down one stance level]. So with three keys you can quickly change stances, tapping one key for more damage less defence, another for the opposite. From fully defensive you can instantly switch to normal with the first /attack bind.

"Improved sorting in some windows, it's now possible to change attack stance by defining going up or down in level of stance"

0.5.7 Release notes.

Has this attack stance change been implemented, and if so what are the commands?

Thankyou.

Suggest you post both PC and OS specs so people smarter than me can help.

Just a thought, have you tried running PS as Administrator?

Thanks Weltall, updated with the SP1 Redistributable you linked. Works like a charm.

This caught me by surprise as well, fortunately really simple fix. You need to download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable for your OS and install.

Hope this helps. Looking forward to experiencing both new and old in Yliakum after a long absence.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: casting magic

Spell Shortcuts

Right click on an empty shortcut box. In the large box put /cast Spell Name [eg. /cast Defensive Wind]. In the title box above give it a name, eg Wind. To the right of this there is a key binding box, click on Set, press the key you want to bind that spell to, then save. You dont have to bind a key, can just click on the shortcut box, but having commonly used shortcuts bound can be very useful.
You will always change to a fully defensive stance if hit while casting.Brilliant really as you will take less damage than other stances. Change stance afterwards if you want by clicking on the attack icon of choice, defensive, normal, bloody etc, or make another shortcut and bind it eg /attack bloody.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Re: the new server
« on: April 28, 2010, 02:07:34 am »
As of 08.00 GMT can now log into Skylab. Launcher still shows an available update but closes without saving, or installing it after download. I used Repair from launcher to update the servers.xml succesfully as stated in my previous post.
