How small can it get?
« on: July 23, 2011, 02:15:14 am »
Is anyone playing PS on a Netbook or Mini PC? I am thinking about either making a Mini or buying a Netbook for the times I am away from home. If you have had any success in this area, not worried about great graphics or framerates, please list model and/or spec of machine used.

Thank you.

That's why I'm thinking about a Mini. If the integrated cpu/motherboard combo isn't powerful enough for the job maybe one of the new desktop Llano cpu's + micro atx motherboard and cheap 30 gb SSD. Would fit in a case the size of a paperback book. Take keyboard and mouse with me, if staying with friends or relatives steal one of their monitors. Hotels use the TV.

Thanks Weltall. Any known problems with the Intel graphics that ship with the Ion?

Genius, many thanks. Could be a likely candidate. How do you think Zacate compares?

In general, looking for the least is a bad idea. Netbooks often have a feature-limited graphic chipset and small display. PlaneShift needs rather powerful gaming hardware, much RAM,  and a minimum resolution.

At least 800 px height is probably necessary to display all internal windows. Integrated graphics are much slower than a separate (dedicated) card, so intel Core i# HD, Nvidia 8k/9k or AMD/ATI HD 5k/6k should be a recommendable minimum choice. A dual-core CPU is very recommendable, as well as at least 2 GB RAM.

You know ... a game should be fun, and the fun already ends when the hardware is too weak for it. Fortunately, it seems that there are already Notebooks around 400 EUR which are potent enough.

P.S. Examples for Germany - at least Dual Core, 2 GB, and dedicated Nvidia – keep playing with that if you like.
