Newbie Help (Start Here) / Question for the GM's
« on: July 24, 2006, 07:01:14 am »
hello all,
Here's the question...already established in the PS world is Anfa's sister Aoibhihn who has recently lost her player. The Char Aoibhihn has been left a little addlebrained due to the rp she has been put through. Now I have an 8 year old daughter who wants to play planeshift. Can I set her up as Aoibhihn with the proper description to help others to realize that Aoibhihn is not "quite there" hence the lack of advanced conversational skills. My daughter's computer is beside mine in the computer room so she would be supervised while ingame. She would be very upset to have her own character only to have it erased hence why I am asking before creating Aoibhihn again. Right now Aoibhihn has been rped "recovering and healing in the Wyldewood" As my daughter grows up so will Aoibhihn improve until she is all better again.  \\o//

Cheers and thanks for your time!!

edit: now I posted it here because she would be a new player but if it is in the wrong spot  sorry!!

Guilds Forum / [GUILD] Scions of Wyldewood
« on: May 29, 2006, 05:52:05 am »
Scions of Wyldewood

The Scions of Wyldewood are a guild within the Planeshift world of Yialkum that was established in Jan '06. We have been an active guild within the game since our establishment and continue to learn and grow. We do encourage our members to develope strong characters [ya ya- oh-no- Powerlevelers  eek!!] with the intent of being able to test and try all the weapons and spells that are introduced into the planeshift world. We do not focus on PVP dueling except as participants in the many tournaments. We encourage our members to seek out the many, many rp events that go on daily to develop a mind-set that every moment within PS is an rp event.
Very rarely will a Scion be caught ingame, out of character.

The Background of the Scions of Wyldewood is the Wyldewood itself.

 http://scionsofwyldewood.nomadicwolf.com

Those wondering where "the Wyldewood" is... over-the-hills and far away is the answer. Only those invited or brought into the Wyldewood by the Children themselves shall ever go there. Many of our members will spend time in the Wyldewood having been summoned there or sent by the guild leader. We are hoping to start a thread in the storytelling section.."Stories from the Wyldewood" to share our home with others in Yialkum.

Many times will the comment "the children" be heard from the mouths of Scions when speaking of their elders. The Children are the original Scions who live within the Wyldewood and whom our Guild represents. It is their teachings and values that our guild reflects. They remain within the Wyldewood, but the guild, from time to time, will seek out their wisdom and knowledge.

From the website:
"There is a healing to be found within the Wyldewood. The lessons learned among the Scions are nobility of spirit, generosity and kindness. Personal honour is vital to the Scions. That all life is sacred and should be protected. That their word is their bond, and their actions reflect the beliefs of the Wyldewood. To become a Scion, you become one of the clan. And will be welcomed and loved as family of the heart. Though a Scion may walk alone, they shall never be lonely for the clan is always there..."

The Scions do not actively Recruit. We will help any who request it, offering advice and some equipement to get started. When asked about our guild, it is recommended that anyone seeking to join a guild first explore all their options. We will welcome any enquires encouraging those who are interested in us to get to know as many Scions as possible and to find a Peer Leader or Watcher to bond with who will be willing to sponsor their becoming a Scion. Yes we are a difficult Guild to get into, and we like it like that!

We wish to remain an independent guild within Yialkum, only allowing alliances with other guilds that reflect our values.
Any who feel they have been wronged or who wish help in repairing a misunderstanding ingame can approach a Scion for help and mediation. We strive to maintain a balance and harmony within our world so that all way live in peace. We will voice our position on any injustice or concerns we may perceive regarding freedom and equality within Yialkum. Although fairly new to Yialkum we live here too, and do not fear to offer our opinions over policies and/or actions that may affect other citizens of Yialkum.

Although technically there is no alignment in Plane Shift our guild would reflect a "chaotic good" mentality.

Greetings all and welcome,
Anfa, Watcher for the Scions of Wyldewood
[arrogant? I have been acused of this! nosey? openly admit it!! friendly? most definitely!! I look forward to seeing all of you ingame!]

The Levels within the Scions of Wyldewood...

Apprentice level-

The Apprentice level is for the purpose of setting up the habits of generosity and kindness within our new members. It is a chance for new members to get to know the clan as well as to begin establishing a strong "role playing" mindset.

Journeyman levels-

There are three Journeyman levels for members to work through. This is an opportunity for members to better get to know the people of this land through questing and to practice their interaction with the rest of Yialkum. We also expect a certain level of training as the members work their way up through the levels establishing a knowledgable and strong character.

Peer Leader-

This is the level when Members can now take on apprentices of their own. They have demonstrated a stong ability to "role play" understanding the importance of this ability within the "Plane Shift" world. They now have the knowledge and Know-how to be able to advice the new members of the Scions when advice is asked for. This is also the time that members need to decide what future jobs they wish to focus on...

Clan Advisor [representing many different job descriptions within the Scions due to the limited level titles allowed the guilds at this time]-

A Clan Advisor is expected to add their voice to the decision making process within the guild. Potential members, guild policies, alliances that are proposed are all issues that clan advisors can express their opinions on. The final decision will still fall upon the shoulders of the Guild leader but the opinions of the watchers and the clan advisers will be sought before any decisions are finalized.

Shop Keeper-

Within the Guild there is the opportunity to become a shop keeper supported by the guild and earning money for the guild. This is a "hardcore role playing position" when members have had enough of fighting. This position does not have to be permanent if the member wishes to return to the life of a fighter and clan advisor status.

Watcher-

It is the role of the watcher to keep an eye on the actions of the people of this land. "hard core role playing" with interaction with the other guilds and gamemasters, setting up the role our guild has within the role playing community. Overseeing the development of the newer members characters and stories is also a job for the watchers. They are the ones who will confirm any recommendations to the guild leader of new membership requests as well as help plan any Guild activities. This position is not one that can be earned, but is offered by the guild leader to a member who has displayed exceptional role playing abilities as well as a very stong dedication to the Guild.

Guild Leader-

The Position of guild leader was assigned by the Legendary children. It was by their request that our present Guild Leader leads our guild and it will be a position only the present guild leader can offer to another.

Roleplaying (Communitive Storywriting) / Dream True..Dream Sorrow
« on: March 30, 2006, 06:51:31 pm »
I was crouched down with my hand upon the land feeling the life energy flowing beneath me. I closed my eyes savouring this moment so precious knowing that the peace would soon be shattered. As I stood I looked across the battlefield ready for the challenge before us. The suppressed excitement raged around me. I could feel it playing across my skin as we all stood proud and defiant. For the life of me I could not remember how this came to be.
To my left my Guild Mistress in discussion with our ally and friend Proteous finalizing the battle plans. At my back, my apprentices, Corune and Djeroon, ready to follow me into battle. I stood silent and cold surrounded by my friends and allies but my eyes sought another. Across the field to those who would have us bow down to their Dark Queen, I sought the face of my Lover.
Baston...guild leader of the Infidel Slayers and follower of Vodul.
My heart yearned to be with my Lord but my soul would not let me betray the vow I had made.
So I encased myself in ice, ignoring the darkness howling in my mind demanding my compliance.
I would not yield to my love for Baston, to the Darkness and to their Queen.
I felt the touch of Jorelle on my arm in concern. I tore my eyes from their search and smiled at her in reassurance, not wanting to let her love break my control.  Refusing to let myself be distracted from the mission at hand I turned to the guilds that had gathered to defy the might of the Dark Empire. Those who would fight with us stood this day united as one. I pulled out my battle blades testing their weight in my hands feeling the dagger Baston had given me strapped to my thigh. Once more I found my eyes seeking my Love wanting to know where he was, wondering what he was thinking.

Oh Gods, how could this be?

I felt the prayer rising from my heart for those who must die, that they die well. I could not pray for the safety of the Slayers I had come to care about, for it would be the deaths of my allies that would ensure their safety. I felt the tightness building within my chest and concentrated on shallow measured breaths to fight it. I would not fail my Scions.

Run run run and hide...make it not so, Oh Gods make it not so...

I steadied myself clamping down on the emotions that were trying to rage up from my heart. And than I saw him. Across the field our eyes met and I felt myself go numb. As if a battle would never begin and we were all alone and standing before each other, our eyes met and my world centered around My Baston.
We could not hide from each other the love and sorrow we felt.

Farewell My Baston, for next we meet it will be my sword seeking your life, as your axe seeks mine

The words rang through my mind. The last words I had spoken to him and from deep within me I felt the howl of rage rising up to explode from me.
I threw back my head to cry out his name...

And I found myself safe in his arms, his hand stroking my back as he whispered words of comfort and love. The name I would have screamed in difiance of the Gods slipped from my lips in a whimper, \"Baston...\"
I trembled trying to shake the last of the dream from my mind pressing my face into his shoulder. Wanting to be lost in his love, I rained kisses across his chest and felt his arms tighten around me as he held me close.

Oh Baston...My Lord, My Love....What is to become of us?

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Descriptions 101
« on: March 13, 2006, 12:44:31 pm »
If you don\'t already know, and as many of you will find out quickly, Planeshift is very much a RPing game.

Recently it was pointed out that my description could be improved and I realized there really isn\'t a thread in this section to help new players when working on their description.

I am hoping that the more experienced RPers could offer helpful suggests for those of us who are still learning about role playing games on how to write a good description.

Suggestions on what to include and what to think about as you are writing your description for other players to see.

[please this is meant to be a constructive thread. I would ask that noone\'s personal description be used as an example unless you are using your own. Thank You]

Journey into the Mouth

By anfa

We had done all that we could for my Guild sister, Xillix who was getting worse. The spell that had her was beyond the skills of any in this world and time was running out. When the map was found carved on the back of her head I knew I would be going on this journey. I had already lost to many loved ones, nothing would stop me from saving Xillix. I was concerned when Einnol announced he was coming too for I knew his fiance Alleri and dreaded seeing in her eyes the pain I knew in my heart. There was no changing his mind though, he was as determined as I to find the source of Xillix\'s illness.  With the love and best wishes of our friends and family, we prepared the best we could for a journey into the unknown. At the appointed time we climbed down into the mouth of the stone face searching for the promised answers to save our friend.
We were quick to start down the rope into the well but slowed our descent as the smell assaulted our senses. Taking a deep breath I looked down to see how Einnol was doing below me and saw the first of the bodies hung up on the outcropping of the well walls. At first I wasn\'t sure what I was seeing as the light faded and we sunk into deeper shadow, but I have seen too much death in my lifetime for my conscious mind to deny what my subconscious already knew. I welcomed the darkness that rose up to engulf us, taking away the distraction of the bodies around us.
The descent seemed to stretch for eternity. Within the darkness we found ledges through touch on which to rest before continuing down into this abyss. I was beginning to fear we would never find the bottom of this well forcing my mind away from what I knew would be there waiting for us.
I remember sitting on a ledge staring into the darkness with a whispered prayer for all these dead rising from my heart...
The darkness began to take on a feeling of more. It was no longer just an absence of light but seemed to have a presence, as if it were watching us; hating us for our intrusion into it\'s world. I kept feeling for my silverweaves, reassured with the feel of them in my hands. This darkness awaited us and I would hate to disappoint it, we would not be turned back and with renewed determination continued down til we reached the bottom.
It was so strange when we finally reached our destination. As our boots sunk down into the rotting bodies of so many of Hydlaa\'s dead I grew alarmed at the realization that I no longer smelt death. I started at the feel of a hand grabbing mine, biting back a scream as my mind registered the warmth of the grip. I allowed Einnol to pull me off the bones of the dead as we scrambled together for solid ground. We stopped only when we hit a solid wall. Feeling the solid floor beneath me I swept my boots around me clearing away a space to sit and steady myself. I softly whispered \"Einnol?\" but realized no sound could be heard. A sense of helplessness began to rise up within me at the loss of sight, smell and sound until I felt Einnol\'s hand in mine, give a reassuring squeeze. I took a deep breath steading myself and a moment to rest before I felt Einnol tug on my hand to start moving again. We crept slowly along the wall, until we came to an opening. A narrow crevice with a low ceiling, I had to crouch to enter, Einnol needing to turn sideways to fit. Trusting in luck we entered the crevice and followed where it led.
As we moved farther into the crevice the air around us began to get colder. We were both shivering by the time we felt ourselves passing out of the tunnel and into another room. As I followed Einnol out of the tunnel, my hand was still on the edge of the opening when it suddenly disappeared. Fury began to fill me as I tugged on Einnol\'s hand, searching for the tunnel opening with the other hand knowing in my heart that we were truly trapped. There was no going back the way we came. Frustrated I put my back to the wall, closing my eyes in a silent prayer. Einnol pulled me into a hug in a silent reassurance then suddenly tensed. My eyes snapped open but a sudden bright light blinded me causing me to avert my eyes blinking furiously to clear the tears. Squinting to allow my eyes to adjust I saw before me a strange glowing face within the ball of light floating before us. I looked over to Einnol and heard him swear under his breath.Startled to hear his voice I turned to look at him when the face within the light began to speak.
I clapped my hands over my ears at the volume of the voice after silence for so long. It took a moment for my mind to register what was being said.
\"I am Vodul\'s will... Why do you come here at the appointed hour?\"
Einnol, more quick to recover, responded in a clear voice, \"we wish Xillix returned form her coma\"
There was silence for a moment,  \"Is that all?\" Vodul\'s will demanded.
Einnol bowed respectively and replied \"nothing more\".
Vodul\'s Will filled the room with it\'s voice, \" A powerful spell holds her in her state no less powerful than the vigesimi,    are you sure you wish to release her?\"
Einnol paused and glanced at me in concern then responded to Vodul\'s Will, \"she is our friend we will not fear her\"
Vodul\'s Will in a cold voice mocked us, \"The spell that binds her was ordered by vagesimi, do you still wish her release?\"
I grew frustrated with this discussion and answered in a cold hard voice of my own.\"yes, release my Sister!\"
The face turned to me and smirked, \"I cannot\"
I don\'t know who was making more noise? My swearing or Einnol\'s  protests to Vodul\'s Will.
We made alot of noise till Vodul\'s Will boomed out \"But you can, I have marked the spot on her map where you will find the key to her identity.\"
This silenced both of us, with a shock I looked back towards the lost tunnel wondering how we would return. My head snapped back as the light flared and Vodul\'s Will began to laugh. With one last flare, the light disappeared and once more we were lost in darkness.
I collapsed onto the ground leaning my back against the wall snarling in frustration when I felt Einnol drop down beside me. Silently he took my hand in his with a reassuring squeeze. I felt myself begin to laugh, helpless to stop it knowing that we were not going to give up. My laughter must have been contagious because I heard Einnol beginning to laugh as well and so we went til tears poured down our cheeks and we could barely breath...
I don\'t remember when sleep overtook me, I just know that it was a soft ruby light playing on my eyelids that woke me. As I opened my eyes I saw before me a floating ruby crystal, it\'s red glow chasing back the darkness and showing us the room around us. As I gently nudged Einnol to wake him, the crystal began to slowly move away from us towards the back of the room. I scrambled to my feet wondering at this gift and remembering the ritual done to the dark crystal before I left on this journey. I shook my head in wonder as we picked our way across the cave following the light wondering how this could be. A rush of adrenline surged through me and I felt hope grow inside of me. We were not finished yet...
The overwhelming need to laugh began to rise in me again but I managed to contain it to a stupid grin as I glanced over at Einnol. We would prevail and Xillix would be saved. At that moment that is all I knew for sure as we came to the far wall and saw the small opening with stairs leading down. The crystal floated off down the stairs with us chasing it and the darkness chasing us.
The crystal lead us through a maze of twists and turns, always with the darkness around us and things hiding in it\'s shadows. when we stopped to rest the Crystal would wait for us but always did we start again when the crystal began to move. It was a full day that the comforting light bestowed it\'s grace until it came to a stop and faded away. Once more the darkness overwhelmed us as we closed our eyes exhausted and wondering what awakening would bring.
Again it was a soft glow that brought me to conciousness and another day of travelling. One crystal per day when ten crystals were offered makes for a long journey. I sighed to myself wondering if Einnol had yet figured out how long the journey ahead of us was? I send a silent prayer of thanks to Alleri for loading me up with food before we left. As I offered some breakfast to Einnol I vowed to myself that I would return him to Alleri.  We finished our meal quickly and started off on another day\'s journey.
We quickly learned not to wander off the path the crystal wanted us to take. Whenever we moved off to explore the rooms we entered the crystal would begin to pulse a warning and move away down the prescribed path. It was either follow or be left behind in the dark. We also learned to prepare for battle if the crystal stopped and increased it\'s light. As the shadows retreated from the ruby glow the creatures would be left exposed to our blades. Most that attacked us were no match for Einnol and I. We quickly dispatched the rats and gobbles that would attack in their packs looking for an easy meal. Their was one moment when we were almost caught with our blades down when we forgot to look up. Never had I seen such a huge spider and the shock almost killed me. Einnol, moving with a speed that amazed me, swung his axes to sweep out the legs of the creature quickly leaving it helpless and vulnerable to his killing blow. I shuddered at the jerking body of the creature but managed a quick smile of thanks to Einnol who grinned back while wiping his blades clean. I never forgot to look up as well as around after that when entering a new cavern. We came across many a twisted version of creatures we already new. Consumers so large it took both of us working in tandem to avoid the tentacles and finish the kill.  We discoverd we make an excellent killing team, dancing a deadly dance of twist and turns and thrusts that left all creatures laying dead at our feet. The only true threat to either of us was the darkness that followed us through the maze.
