Wish list / Re: Cloaks Reloaded
« on: October 03, 2009, 01:17:23 pm »
Get real kids, no matter what style of cloak it wont render you permanently anonymous, if the hood comes far enough over your face to make it impossible to see, you wont be able to see where you're going, every time you move there is a possibility of it coming open and revealing a glimpse of what's underneath, it won't disguise your height, mannerisms, voice or scent. The cloak itself may pick up dirt, stains or damage that makes it uniquely identifiable, the maker may use a distinctive stitch or colour.

In other words don't say I'm cloaked so people can not know who you are as that is just godmodding, go read Harry Potter if you want a cloak of invisibility.
It's not reality, it's a game. People return when they get killed. If it would be impossible to cloak in a way that you cannot be recognised, crime would not exist in Yliakum. It's not godmodding, it's adjusting to the game mechanics. However, thanks for replying to this proposal after 10 months with a rejection of the idea, Mordraugion.

After all if a criminal is caught and killed what happens? after a short period the criminal s back, curse free and ready to conduct criminal activity again. Criminal doesn't want to be caught by the good guys? Criminal just jumps off a cliff or otherwise offs themselves and escapes via the death realm.
As far as I know, the only punishments are banishment (low laws, e.g. theft and hight laws, e.g. entering a burial well) and permadeath (high laws, e.g. pollution). I do not know about 'standard death' (the one which 'only' sends you to DR) as a punishment. However, most of the laws' descriptions are unclear about the punishments (leaving some freedom for interpretation, which might be good or bad).

Agreed on the cliff jumping. Criminals should rather cloak themselves and fight to death than taking the risk of being arrested and discovered, especiall when committing high crimes. That's how I play my criminal character.

10 months ago, I submitted a document to the settings team. Its title was "Proposals on how to improve the rogue atmosphere in Planeshift" and contained several detailed proposals for the PS team, including the cloaking one. The authors are Aiwendil, Elvi, Eurac, Garris, Kaisa, Lhaa, Lokter, Morla, Nedoko, Raekh, Semutara and myself. Taken from this document:
Quote
“Real” cloaking
People should be able to hide names and guild tags when at camp banished. Another idea would be a rogue's cloak, which you would obtain from a long chain of quests only for the "bad guys". If you equip the cloak on the back slot of your char, the model becomes a rogue model. No name or guild tag, but a green “Rogue” tag would tell other players that this is someone in disguise. The cloak should be editable, so that the standard player's description is replaced with the text written in the cloak. The default (and unchangeable) content would be 'A $racename in disguise' while a cloak name (unique) must be added (to enable identification of the player in main chat tab). If this is too complicated, a standard description would be an easy solution.
It might also be a good idea to make a char in a rogue cloak attackable by default. This might also be restricted to camp banished. Progression points and/or a loot of some tria might motivate an attack on a player rogue. The cloak should also only work in non-city maps.
A cloaked rogue would be able to attack (or maybe pickpocket). However, the victim would get warned with a message like "You notice a cloaked shadow appears behind you", then a timer would count down, giving the victim time to flee. The countdown time could be dependent on the skills „Hide in Shadows“ and „Pickpocketing“.

Pros:
- players could contribute to the bad reputation of rogues
- rogues would become more difficult to find and kill

Cons:
- OOC attacks
- abuse of anonymity

General Discussion / PL guild internship
« on: July 21, 2009, 04:36:34 pm »
http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=35614.0
Recent posts like this one have shown that the discussion "RPers vs PLers" is neverending and that people from both sides might never come to an agreement.
Sometimes, if you are stuck in an argument, it helps to change your perspective and look at things from a different point of view.
I call myself both a RPer and a PL. Nevertheless I spent almost all of my PS time in an RP guild: The Outlaws.
My view of Planeshift hence is most probably biased and this is the reason for my

Application for a PL guild internship

Does a PL guild dare to invite me for one RL week, so I can learn how the life of a pure PLer is in these days?
My stats, several weapon skills and magic ways are maxed, I use 300Q weapons and can speak OOC (will always use brackets for this in main though).
I can smelt platinum, too.

Interested guilds should post here.

Thanks in advance,
Orgonwukh

kiou, I do not get you. During guild war, you just attack everyone in sight, if you can attack them, they are the enemy :P

I do not mean those players who play a char who is new to Hydlaa. I am fine with that, most of the time I recognise that the player is an experienced player and I do not care about this. It does not disrupt my and/or others' gameplay. Experienced players who ask me things like "how do you roleplay", "how do you make my name appear in blue" and other OOC things (in [] and/or guildchat) while they already know about it do though.

General Discussion / How to cheat other players with an alt
« on: July 21, 2009, 12:08:58 pm »
This situation has happened to me before several times:
A "new" player asks me if I would help him, teach him how to roleplay, or invite him to my guild. The player tells me he is new to the game. I waste huge amounts of time with explaining and teaching. In the end I find out that the player is someone who has played PS for a along time already.

This is annoying and disappointing.

It may be good if someone does not know about who the player behind a char is. Sometimes it even helps if you do not know the other players chars/alts. It can help you to judge the char and player without being biased. But please: Do not waste other players' time by making them tell you about things you already know just for the sake of giving the impression that you are a noob.

If you insist on not giving away who you are (or who your other chars are), I recommend that you do one of the following.

1) Simply say that you have other chars and know how to play, but that you do not want to tell about them because you want to keep the RP without bias/influence. I did this myself sometimes and the other players understood that. If someone does not respect this, they are not worth playing with, because they obviously have other goals than enjoying the game as it is meant to be.
2) You lie that you did not play PS before, but you played other MMOs, RPGs, etc. You can also add that you read the forums and already know a lot of things because of that.
3) You lie that you played PS a long time ago, but you forgot a lot about it. You did not forget how to roleplay, but you do not know the players/chars. This at least prevents other players from wasting their time by teaching roleplaying.

So please:
Do not waste other players' time by playing the noob!
If necessary lie, but do this in a way which does not waste time (yours and others).

Thank you.

General Discussion / Re: Disruption Poll
« on: July 21, 2009, 11:30:46 am »
Once my character Orgonwukh was arrested for drawing weapons in Kada-El's (which was perfect for me).
I called a GM for arrestment for exactly the same situations several times, where players drew weapons inside city walls, but the players were not arrested. In my opinion those players should be warned OOCly. If they refuse to sheath weapons, their chars should be imprisoned or killed by a guard, depending on their history and/or situation.

There were several situations where people talked OOCly in main tab. I usual ask nicely (so I hope) to use brackets, use /tell or use /group. Sometimes players refuse and start ranting about "stupid roleplayers", even offend you sometimes. I would like to see such behaviour being punished by banning (they should be allowed to join ezpcusa though).

Complaint Department / Re: Usual, semi-annual complain

I doubt that the roleplayers will become more tolerant because of this discussion. I also doubt that PLers will try to stick closer to the settings because of this discussion. The only thing that might change something is intervention from above!

Wish list / Re: The way of the Healer
« on: July 16, 2009, 12:35:24 pm »
I once proposed that healers should be able to remove Dakkru's curse (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=30016.msg372433#msg372433). You could combine this with a hospital. People coming from the death realm would first go there to find a healer.

Pay a healer to remove Dakkru's curse or heal your wounds for a small fee. Sounds good to me  \\o//
