Hi,
if you want your web site and logo to show here (http://www.planeshift.it/guilds.php) you just have to add the guild's URL in game, in the guild panel. Then place an image called logo.jpg in the main directory of your web site. For example if your site is http://myawesomeguild.info your logo must be at http://myawesomeguild.info/logo.jpg
In case you cannot place a picture in that specific location (some free sites do not allow it), we can load your logo on our site with a manual procedure and then link it to the guilds page. So if that's your case post here the URL of your logo and the guild name, and we will load it.

Maybe the artist is even able to make it a bit more iconic (more contrast, more abstraction), as it may be hard to recognize when scaled down?

This is one is free and fairly easy to use. They include videos on how to do it too. There's a little bit of a learning curve, but it's not that hard once you get the hang of it.

Yes super easy to learn, if a total noob like me can figure this out anyone can do it, really! I set up the outlaws forums here years ago and was actually shocked at how easy it was to do or figure out how to do!

Sorry, I made a mistake in the URL. Try this instead:

The problem is that your browser is correctly rejecting their page via https because they are using an expired, self-signed ssl certificate.

so that worked! but how do I get to extend it? just make a website and load it on there? or make a website at the free forum website? total novice here, guys

Just sign up and follow the instructions. The only thing you need is an email address. ( Just make a new gmail address if you don't want to use an existing one )
When you finish the first guided steps, you will have a username and password for your new empty forum and for an administration control panel. They host the forum for you, you do not need a web server or anything.
Somewhere on their website, there are videos on how to set up a forum step by step. It's been a long time, and I don't have the links anymore. If you make the free account and forum and poke around, it shouldn't be too hard to find. They also have a support forum that you can ask questions on.
As for how to customize the forum, there should be videos on how to do that too. The easiest way to do it would be to browse through their free collection of templates, choose one that you like and change the logo on it. ( again, there should be a video on how to do that too )
For what it's worth, it looks like someone posted these videos about 8 years aog. Given how little myfreeforums has changed over the years, they are probably still relevant. ( I sampled one - the audio was terrible, but it's better than nothing )
