General Discussion / Planeshift in the Mac App Store?
« on: January 27, 2011, 08:46:36 pm »
Having just gotten the Mac app store, I think it would probably be a good idea to put planeshift into it.  It would considerably boost our playerbase in my opinion.  I just am not sure if Planeshift will be allowed in, since Apple is famous for having funky guidelines for letting apps in [it's not because of content, but apparently you need to have a certain type of language, or so I hear]

Anyway, what do you guys think?

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / PSclient crash
« on: October 11, 2010, 09:13:15 pm »
So I just got a new computer recently, and I immediately brought over PS over the network from my old computer.  I haven't touched until today.  When I opened it I got to loading the game itself (after picking which character to play as) and then it crashed and gave me a crash reporter for Crystal Space.  So I just deleted that one and redownloaded it from the website.  The first time, it worked, but then it gave me the same message.  Just now I tried opening again and it worked just fine!  Help, I'm confused!

I run an iMac with 3.2 GHz Intel core i3 and ATI Radeon HD 5760

Thanks for any help you can give.

Wish list / A /where function
« on: August 14, 2010, 06:48:56 pm »
I think it would be good idea to have a /where function.  The command would basically give you which map a certain player is in, like hydlaaplaza, bdroad1, etc.  It would be basically there to give an idea of where a player is, without really needing to ask them directly.  I often have been in a point where I need such a function.  I think it could be really useful.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / PSLaunch problem
« on: April 27, 2010, 03:40:13 pm »
I've got a problem with pslaunch.  Whenever I do anything in pslaunch, it doesn't affect the game itself.  Also, when I attempt to play from pslaunch, the application just goes white then goes back to the main pslaunch screen.  It does that a few times then crashes.  What can I do????!!!!!  Its annoying because I can't do anything about the considerable lag I've been having.

By the way, I'm on a mac with a PowerPC core and Leapord 10.5.8 [not snow leaopard]

Mac OSX Specific Issues / pslaunch, psclient problem [resolved]ß
« on: March 02, 2010, 08:35:13 pm »
Ok, so when I run pslaunch, and I hit "Play", it always just flashes white and then reverts back to the page I'm already on.  When I open psclient, it starts loading normally, and then it says "error, could not load shaders 'shadow-noise'" or something like that, along with a few other error messages having to do with shaders.  If its possible, how can I fix this, and, if not, I have heard that there is a way to build planeshift from myself.  How would I do this?

I use a Mac OS X version 10.5.8 with PPC

Thanks for the help

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Won't open
« on: January 16, 2010, 07:44:07 am »
Alright, so heres my problem: last night I spent the whole night downloading PS from the third mirror in the Mac downloads.  Today, its morning, and it still says "AA few seconds left" and the progress bar is full.  I can open the PSLanch, but when I click play, I go to the same page you start from.  When I open the PSClient, it bounces in the dock for a little while then the window shows up and disappears.  I have no idea whats happening, but I think theres a problem somewhere.  [PS I am using an IMac 10.5.5 with PPC and Leopard]

[EDIT] I went into a different account and downloaded it, but now the Planeshift v0.1.5.dmg won't open
[EDIT II] I downloaded it from Frubar and now the client works but the view, where you'd normally see the world, is brown and flashy

Wish list / New combat system
« on: January 14, 2010, 09:36:41 pm »
I have an idea for a new combat system.  There are a few gray areas that I'm not too sure what to do about, but any input would be great :beta:.

Basic Combat Combat is an entirely first person thing.  Your blade [or blades] follow your mouse, and you left-click to move your blade forward.  You can either single click [as a thrust] or click and hold, swinging your mouse in the direction you want to blade to go [as a slash].  Enemies, monster or otherwise, should all have a weak point, such as unprotected skin, a crack in armor, etc.  You'll want to aim for these, otherwise you will do minimal damage or none at all.  To block, you just right-click and try to follow the opponents attack, then, if your good, you can follow through with a thrust or something.  I'm not sure about two-weapon combat, the second weapon might just follow your mouse like the first one, but this seems awkward and it will prevent fancy two-handed swordplay.  Again, any input would be great.  Some weapons, like a pike or bow, will require two hands to use.

Bows  Bows are used in first person as well.  To use the bow, click and hold to set the power.  Let go to set it, and then aim by moving your mouse.  There is a thin blue line that appears, to show the trajectory of the arrow [can be disabled for hardcore users], and then single click to fire.  Fairly simple.  All bows will also have a quality that gets lower with use, like normal weapons.  But all bows will have another important number: the draw weight.  This number determines how strong the bow is, and whether or not you can use it.  If a draw weight exceeds the users strength, aim will be very wobbly and you won't be able to use the bows full strength.  The highter above your strength the draw weight is, the worse these condidtions get.  If crossbows will ever be used in Planeshift, they will operate by pretty much the same system, except that you can't use a crossbow that has a draw weight higher than your strength.  Its impossible, since you can't pull the bowstring all the way back.  The only exception, however, is mechanical crossbows, or pump crossbows, that have the bowstring pulled back mechanically, therefore not requiring strength from the user.  Draw weight will only determine bow strength.

Magic  Magic is in first person, like all the rest.  Most spells will go straight, making it possible that you will miss the target, although these spells are normally stronger, spells such as Energy Arrow; while some spells will follow the target, making it impossible to miss, although they will get weaker the farther away from the caster they get.  These spells aren't very strong, normally, an example being Taste of Death.  And , finally, some spells will effect the area around you, such as healing spells.  Pretty straightforward.

Targeting  Targeting will only be used in the homing spells, or to better recognize who you are fighting in a large brawl [although you can fight several people at once, or jump from one enemy to the other, without pausing to  press an attack button.  Combat is only exited when you want it to be, at the press of a button.

Input would be great, please tell me if you have any suggestions or if I forgot something.  Thank you for your time.

In-Game Roleplay Events / Language school
« on: April 24, 2009, 03:45:39 pm »
I want to create a language school, in the University of Amdeneir, to teach at least the basics of each races' language.  This is still a  :beta: idea so I will need some help.  It will start as soon as Amdeneir comes out, and I don't know when that is, so I want to be ready.  I am still looking for someone who knows at least some basics of one of these languages:

Nolthrir
Dermorian
Stonebreaker
Enkidukai
Klyros
Ynnwn

Anyone who might somehow know some from any unlisted language (except Common) would be great!

Also, if you are interested in learning a language, sign up for class here.

I will need help working out some of the details, so teachers, send me a tell in-game or post on this thread and we can see what we can do.
If someone can help in any other way, please post about it!
