General Discussion / Economic Suicide.
« on: July 02, 2016, 09:41:39 am »
One of my favourite pastimes in PS is to buy and sell but there are so few markets to exploit these days that this once lucrative activity seems somewhat futile. There may be things that the devs can do to improve the current economic structure bit the players are also causing an economic disaster.
Its nice that everyone is kind and generous in PS, if I need something a guild mate will no doubt be able to provide it or acquire it for for me. If not a little RP or just a tell to a player, even a shout in gossip, will provide me with what I am looking for and when payment is offered it is often refused. What a wonderful world this is where everyone shares, well, no, not really.
How nice it is to arrive in Hydlaa and be provided with a set of leather armour and a couple of shiny swords, but it is to easy. Yes a lack of players causes problems with such activities but the generosity of all the wealthy, experienced players, which most of us are, to each other and to new players does not let the market flourish, there is no trade just gifts. I think it is time for PS to get back in character.

I had spent a little time writing up Euracs backstory in a text editor, I then posted it to a forum, not these forums. Upon leaving Hydlaa for Gug i was presented with the text I had just written across the hills and valleys outside of Gugrontid. The screeny is taken from above the Howling Well looking to Gug.

Well no screenshot actually :)

General Discussion / On a positive note.

I came to PS back in 2006 in search of RP from a table top background in the 80's. Back then it was a struggle to get the client working and the server suffered long periods of downtime. In a way this added to the PS experience and with around 100 regular players making the best of what PS had to offer. I used to be online everyday and built my character with care and attention toward settings and mechanics.
Over the years I have had, and seen others have, disagreements and arguements within the player base, the GM team and the Dev team yet here today PS still graces the MMORPG world.
Personal circumstances began to take up more of my time and I lost track of my character, created others, and eventually turned to other games.
To get to the point I have played a variety of MMORPG and other games since finding PS. I have wandered confused in WoW, been impressed yet a bit bored with Eve Online and fumbled through some interesting minor production of the same genre.
Here in PS I have found true RP, just like the long nights in the kitchen with RuneQuest, D&D etc. No other game has offered this and today I find that even with a tiny player base RP is alive if not very well. The fact that 20 or less players online in PS gives more entertainment than games with tens of thousands online at any one time is astonishing.
Well done to the Dev team past and prestent, for providing this platform for the players, well done to the GM team, again past and present, for doing a very difficult job both moderating and entertaining the player base, but most of all well done to all the players from today and yester-year for your imagination, enthusiasm and your time.
We the players need to attract others here, the very nature of PS is enhanced with every new character that arrives in Hydlaa. The dev teams have little time for this so it is down to us. Facebook, Twitter, tell your friends. College and Uni notice boards, tell your friends. Write positive reviews on MMORPG fansites, tell everyone. A large PS community is so much fun to be involved in, look after those new players when they get here, give them what they need and show them, not tell them, how to RP.

Rant Over :)
