General Discussion / A Complaint
« on: February 28, 2012, 01:54:40 pm »
I've noticed that the community prefers role-plays where there's fighting, kidnapping, etc, etc. But we seem to be forgetting something important: Where are the casual role-plays? It only makes sense that Hydlaa would be busy. But most of the time, you only see people either at the forge, or just not in the settlements at all. This makes little to no sense. For the sake of quality role-play. Please, please, just try and do something casual. Your character could be in a tavern after a hard day at work.

Frankly, many role-plays and characters have become cliche. There's that, 'stereotypical evil mage,' the 'Evildoers be vanquished,' and the classical Mary sue. There's the, 'I'm a mage/scholar,' character, and the list goes on.

My point is, is that we need to branch out and try some casual role-play. Maybe your character can partake in some town gossip, join in a cooking fair, maybe an engineer, etc. Not every character has to be a fighter. In fact, many people would probably be average. You, the person who's reading this. I bet you've been in more then two fighting/kidnapping role-plays in a year. But tell me, when is the time that your character had a time to relax at a tavern, joined in something that had little to do with combat, or did anything casual?

We need to branch out; not simply doing fighting role-plays, or being in a hot-spot for minerals or mob areas while grinding skills. What would be wonderful, is that we should be able to do some casual role-play. I tried in the past to work on some events; ie, 'Brewfest/feast,' where people could show off their brews, etc, etc. The sad thing? Only about seven people showed.

Your character could be a fighter, but lets be honest. They need to have breaks sometime, right? Most of the time, Hydlaa's a ghost-town apart from the occasional questing player who passes by, or, as mentioned earlier, the grinding smithy's. Ojaveda's even worse, with only a few people passing by, if at all. Gugrontid is even more deserted then Ojaveda. The bronze doors? Please, only questers come there. Occasionally you'll find some role-play. Occasionally.

Third times the charm; we need to branch out. Try different styles of role-play apart from the common kidnapping.

In-Game Roleplay Events / A tale of a dagger (Ongoing roleplay event)

A tale of a dagger...

Ardoin had been gone, in search of treasures, and mining areas. Promising he would be back, he searched around Yliakum, supplies ready, he set out, not knowing what would happen soon enough. Weeks after his searching, he had come across a simple dagger, in surprisingly good condition. Ardoin picked up the dagger, saying to himself. "I could get a few tria off of this, I could." Not knowing that the dagger was enchanted, he picked it up, becoming rather attached to it. It's magical properties were drawing him closer to it. Managing to make it to hydlaa weeks after, and under sway of the dagger's magical influence, he had gotten into a number of fights over the increasing paranoia of his dagger.
It began with simple bursts of the phrase "Tis' mine, not yers." This paranoia and attachment began to grow into distrust of any he would meet. Friends were shooed away or threatened. As of recent, the dagger has been increasing it's influence on Ardoin, sometimes controlling Ardoin. He has fought back, and has been able to let out bursts of speech, or vain attempts in running away. No matter how hard he tries, however, he cannot be rid of this dagger of his own accord, the magical influence far to strong. The influence has proven deadly to Ardoin, causing him lack of sleep, attachment, and loss of free will (in some cases.) and in some cases killing of those whom are friends.

A recent case was in kada el's tavern. Allelia, while serving drinks, did not notice the dwarf stroking a dagger lovingly, staring at it. A fenki soon came in, one whom Ardoin knew. The fenki, named Miomai was soon killed by Ardoin, all the while, Ardoin trying to fight the influence of the dagger. Miomai had been rendered defenseless after showing off her fine daggers. Ardoin, roaring in bestial vigor, charged at Miomai, swinging his hammer, and hitting Miomai's ribcage. She soon fell over the railing and collapsed onto a table, candles falling off of the table, Miomai went under the table, trying to hide under it."P-Please stop," Miomai whimpered to Ardoin, who had been close to breaking the table. Soon after, a dermorian decided to help Miomai, and ended up crashing on the table. Miomai, with splinters in her back, was choking on her own blood. The dermorian tried, to no avail to heal her. Miomai was thrown into dakkru's embrace, and Ardoin managed to recover some control of his own body, for the moment. Running out of the tavern and running before guards could come, Ardoin had escaped hydlaa...

Shortly after, the dagger regained influence over Ardoin; stronger then before. The dagger has it's own set of goals, set by the crafter, who had long forgotten the dagger. The dagger's goals were simple; find a host, take control of said host, and test the resolve of the host by violent means. The tests have been done with, but the dagger will still influence Ardoin to kill or injure those whom are related to him, friends, or otherwise. The dagger's master had ordered the dagger to bring him skulls, the skulls of sentient beings, moreso, civilized beings. The creator forgot the weapon ages past. The dagger has found a new host; Ardoin...

(Welcome to 'The tale of a dagger' ongoing roleplay event! Tell Ardoin ingame, or me on the forums if you would like to join. I'm not to good at storytelling, and this is my first attempt at a storyline revolving around a character of mine.)

The Hydlaa Plaza / The New World (Strategy Roleplay)
« on: September 07, 2011, 04:08:02 pm »
                                                                                                                                                                                 The New World

(( The new world is a game that takes place during a zombie apocalypse, and is strategy based; Basically meaning that you have control of a town/city/settlement that has held out from the zombie apocalypse. Individual characters are encouraged, a particular leader that you may have created is to be played out, RP, ladies and gents. There are five types of zombies within the game, and some may even be added later on. The kinds of zombies are: Shambler, a basic zombie, slow and cumbersome, dumber then average, and is usually found in large numbers. Sprinter, the sprinter is a relatively fast zombie, and is faster then average. The mallet; a dim zombie, but hits like an absolute truck. 'The mallet's' are slow at first, but break into a charge after they see a target. Burnt zombie: The Burnt zombies are sprinters that have been burned in the early days of the virus, they are very resilient and, and the many that survived during said burnings have become far more aggressive then average. The last of these is the most uncommon, and has regained some intelligence after it's mutation. It is simply called 'a scout' A scout has advanced hearing, and is oftentimes clever. They alert the hordes that they reside in by letting out a loud screech.

Rules

1) A short post is better then no post

2) OOC posts have to be in brackets

3) No godmodding

4) Don't make it to easy for your nation. They're going to have bumps and lose battles and lose people, food shortages will be very common, unless they live in a rural area or live by a grocery store (This food will eventually run out)

5) Though you can see the people's numbers and battles, resources, etc. of other nations, your characters/survivors cannot unless they scout, and these are generally dangerous tasks in The New World game; unless they're quiet of course.

6) Technological advances are allowed, but your society won't discover them overnight.

7) Every once in a while I will intervene in said society. IE, a certain 'treasure' uncovered, or a horde of zombies has sniffed out your society.

8. No pulling armies out of midair.

9) This, obviously, takes place on earth.

10) Don't get TOO gory, moderation for goriness is needed.

11) All PS rules apply

12) After two pages are done the season will change, after eight pages are done, it will be a year.

So, overall, the world has come into anarchy due to the zombie virus, and survivors will try to rebuild society, keep a certain area anarchistic, etc etc etc.

You may now post! ))

New Valentine, southeastern kansas, U.S.A, present day

"Hey pa, it's another batch of them goons again." said Jack. They had been stuck on the farm for a while now. The 'goons' as they called them, were breaking down the door to the house, slamming and scratching and pushing... "Don't you worry, boy, I got another trick up my sleeve; we ain't licked yet." John said. The zombies had broken through, mouths foaming and eyes dull, they charged in a relatively small group; easy to pick off.. A shot from his and his companions' rifles were enough to kill the zombies. Stragglers were picked off. "Boys, I think it's about time we take this town back, get to the bar, and find as many folks as we can!" John's words were met with yells and whoops, and they set off to reclaim their town... About a week later, they had reclaimed the town, the surrounding creeks and forests as well. They had regained the clinic, the three gun and ammunition shops, the bar, and 'Jeb's place' a local restaurant. They had also regained the two automobile shops, the local church, and, of course, the moonshine still. They had also gained the hunters supply shop, camo, binoculars, you name it. They had gained the sheriff's office, and the clothing store; most of the clothes were torn and tattered, but they would have to suffice for the survivors. The last thing that they found, was the old quarry. It had been out of use since 1903 due to misplaced dynamite and powder that had killed a lot of men while mining and gathering stone. Sheet metal and planks were placed as the barrier between the survivors, and the zombies. The barrier always was guarded; mainly by the locals hiding in bushes and trees, and shallow trenches... They had armed themselves, and were preparing for the worst. They had to clean up the corpses from most houses, and a stench was still in most of these houses.

Units: 132 'homeguards' 12 'smiters' (Big guys with hatchets, hammers, etc)

The remaining 147 people were workers who would fix barricades, mine, and generally help with everyday life...

Government type: Monarchy, may change with time.

Leader(s) John Bennet, Sheriff Marcus

Economy style: Agriculture, and mining, fishing, woodchopping, gunsmithing, hunting, and toolmaking

((Here is an explanation why some people have survived in this town. Most people in the town owned two or more guns, had heard news of some sort of 'zombie virus' from the cities, as well as their own people who had lived in the town came back with pictures from said cities, seen it, and were, obviously scared. Not to mention that New Valentine is an out of the way town. Over 300 other people died, however.

((Requirements for new societies: You must state your economy style, leader(s) and Government type. If you have a new leader, economy style, etc, then you must state it in the next post, or edit it in your most recent posts. During talks with other nations you don't have to state units or new units unless you're nation is still in progress of training more units.

Post away!))

General Discussion / The dwarven clans explained
« on: August 02, 2011, 03:36:16 pm »
Some players considering killing off the clan 'hammerwielder' please know that hammerwielders are a favored race (There was a poll a long while back) The reason, I believe why people do not know about differences between stonebreaker and hammerwielder is because of the IC belief that all dwarves are siblings that many dwarves from both clans seem to rp together. As the dwarven clans have their similarities, they also have their differences. However this is unclear to many players who have not bothered to look at the main PS site and do their best to study the two clans and said similarities and differences. The reason for this RP is believed to be from an IC a long while ago known as 'the dwarven wars'. My knowledge of the dwarven wars is limited, but during this rp it is said that dwarves from both clans were captured by dermorians whom were under control from a sorceress who had a deep hatred for dwarves. The dwarves that were still free and not captured by said sorceress (most of them) from both clans decided to join under a single banner. In the end the dwarves were victorious, but at a cost of much bloodshed.

Quotes from the PS site. Read this and understand.

 Physical Traits
The Hammerwielders are taller and even more robust then other Dwarves (some rare individuals can reach one meter and half in height), have a darker complexion and black or brown hair. Like many Dwarves, they let their beards and moustache grow and then tie them in plaits and knots. They are from 1.30 m to 1.50 m tall.

 Physical Traits
Stonebreakers are generally shorter and less robust than other Dwarves, with blond or red hair and beard, and pale skin. They have developed an amazing strength. They are from 1.20 m to 1.40 m tall.

 Abilities and fields of interest
Hammerwielders have a more natural affinity with metals and gems than with granite, becoming often-clever blacksmiths and gem cutters. They tend to be skilful fighters and often put their crafted weapons to the test.

 Abilities and fields of interest
The clan of Stonebreakers have lived for centuries digging tunnels, shafts, wells and caves in the deep of earth until they arrived to Yliakum. They are talented engineers of machinery like winches, ventilation pipes, canals, means of transport for goods and everything that can be useful to overcome the drawbacks of underground life. They are also powerful and untiring miners; many say that they created the Stone Labyrinths. But Lemurs and Kran know that the StoneBreakers made only parts of those tunnels. When they arrived the tunnels were already in place, even if not so complex.

Now, both clans have good relations with the enkidukai. Whom make their bread. In exchange hammerwielders would offer metal, gems, etc. In exchange the stonebreakers would most likely offer machinery, granite, etc. The reason why both races aren't good farmers? My reasoning would be that, since hammerwielders have been said to live in towns, which offer mostly metalworking and to an extent mining, and stonebreaker vice versa, but both with taverns. Perhaps both tried farming before, but found they weren't to good at it? Therefore, go to the enkidukai, they've been known to have good crops.

Now, since both don't have physical differences that barely anybody notices except the clans themselves. Take a look at the stats of both clans and I'll explain my reasoning.

Hammerwielder stats
Starting stats: STR 65, END 85, AGI 60, INT 45, WIL 55, CHA 40

Stonebreaker stats
Starting stats: STR 80, END 66, AGI 42, INT 67, WIL 55, CHA 40

The reasoning for these stats, I believe lies in the above physical descriptions. Hammerwielders are slightly taller, and have sacrificed some strength and have been taller instead of the 15 level strength boost. The hammerwielders slight height boost would make for more endurance, not to mention that many fight, making their skin coarser. The stonebreakers have been said to lift heavy stone and machinery, they're bound to have a strength boost. The hammers are taller, making them slightly nimbler and able to doge slightly better then the stones would be, whom are shorter by a bit and can be hit a little easier. Stonebreakers have been dealing with complex machinery, hence the slight intellectual boost. Hammerwielders instead of complex machinery, would instead work with tactics, making for a decrease in starting intellect. Both clans, however have a Will as strong as a 10 inch steel wall, and don't care much for charming people and seducing them.

Modern day dwarves (Those that you'd find today in PS) are very versatile. This is due to the fact that after Dwarvenstar, it only makes sense that these clans would have a close bond, resulting in the flow of ideas and marriage between clans. These are many of the dwarves you'd find while roleplaying. They're still proud, but proud to be a dwarf in general. Not of a specific clan. These dwarves often times in one of three dwarven guilds found in Yliakum. Earlier, however I talked of dwarves that did not join dwarvenstar. These come from both clans and stick to their own clans, still being versatile to an extent, but still sticking to their own and being proud of their clans.

These reasons are from my research of the PS site and what reasoning I could come up with sounded, well, reasonable. :)

If you feel I've left something out or need to edit something, please feel free to PM me about me.

tl;dr: Read the full thing. Honest, it makes sense.

In-Game Roleplay Events / The armored house that moves
« on: January 19, 2011, 09:24:28 pm »
A middle aged stonebreaker began the finishing touches on his new invention; it was perfect, it was genius! It was, a little small... But he had finally done it! Fifty seven years of working on it, and it was finally done! He wiped the sweat off of his brow, so many glyphs and mages helped to kept it running, he had to pour so many mana potions in it to make it run. He began adding the last few touches, and steered the house away from hydlaa; he couldn't wait to show it off to the rest of Yliakum!

[ Note: This is an ongoing roleplay of Garne, a stonebreaker who has finally achieved his goal. You can do whatever you want to try to get the house; but no godmodz! ]

[ Another note: How it moves is that it is entirely run on magic; if that fails, then he'll have a plan of defending the house, using sneaky tactics, and stabbing in the back. ]
