A little thing which is rather bothering in effect:
There is something called typography. And one of
the simplest rules of typography is to not have lines
longer than 60-65 characters. Violating this rule
makes a text very unpleasant to read and strongly
distracts attention.

Unfortunately, this is exactly what happens in the
often rather long texts describing rp situations.
Quite often, it is too tiresome to read the text
as a consequence of this violation.

As a (tiresome) workaround, one can make the browser
window smaller to reflow the text. But it would be nice
to have a text window, which is automatically limited
to 60 chars. Is this possible? I don't know about the forum software... :(

Complaint Department / Pet commands do not train emp any more

This was already mentioned in another thread.

/pet follow or stay does not train emp. Tested target and attack, but besides sometimes making my pet attacking and killing a kikiri, nothing happened. Is this a bug (then I'll gladly file it) or is it a feature (in which case, someone who knows please explain the reason behind it).

Only summon trains empathy...

Sorry I forgot, should have attended the dev meeting... :(

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Huge lag

When connecting to ps, problems start on the server connect screen. I get all from Failed to huge numbers (>10000) in the server line, where I used to get around 80. Connecting is still possible, pinging always gives low numbers in the 50 ms, or below.

When I connect, I have incredible lag of a few seconds before the server response to my key-presses gets back to me. Even when mining :(

Further checks: I connected over cellphone and laptop, ok. And also no problems connecting from the laptop. - Although generally slower (server at 300....), but nicely playable. WLAN router is on the same line as my game computer.

Does someone have an idea where to look?

I love to play 0.6.0, the improvements are beauti- and useful.

Unfortunately, I suffer from quite frequent crashing, which is completely new for me. I often crash when crossing between maps, especially near the crossroads to Levrus. Going slow seems to help. Riding fast is worst.

Another frequent crash-time is when I mount by macro (summon, target,mount). Crashes almost every time. Mounting "manually" has never crashed me....

The crashes do not seem to be settings dependent, as far as I see it now. At least between highest and high....

Hope someone can make something of this....

Wish list / natural resources, spawning, respawning and detecting

I found the corresponding bug report in flyspray turns into some animated discussion. As it is worth discussing, maybe the discussion should take place in the forums....

1) Should minerals be visible or have some effect to show where they are?
2) is the same thing good for harvesting, as it is?
2a) in case of harvesting (and gems): are the respawn rates too high?
3) How about the idea to make a spell to find minerals or plants or...

I think: don't make fast changes. For me, one of the basic things in ps is the necessity to communicate. So, if you want to find iron, and cannot find it on your own, that is good. Go and ask your fellow players!

My favorite scenario (mining and harvesting) would be moving (depleted and freshly discovered) sites. Depending on experience, one can find new resources (marks for resources visible depending on mining or harvesting rank). In this scenario, a higher grade spell (brown?) would make sense to allow mages into the resource finding business. This scenario would enhance the need for communication, and thus would be in tune with the (for me primary) branding feature of ps.

As always, this depends on my personal interpretation of what ps is about, and may be wide off the mark for others :)

I just tried the new mesa 9.1 and could run ps with spell effects on my laptop. Responded smoothly while casting flame spire and defensive wind, plus freeze on a poor rat :)

Before Kenneth GraukeĀ“s patch came into the released drivers this was an absolute no-go, with almost halting all of my machine....

Wish list / Avoiding the superman syndrome by stat rank capping

From combining the Magic and Armor thread with my own thoughts on the topic, I would like to propose simple rules for avoiding the superman (-woman, -kra) syndrome. In the present state, one can be (in a rl terminology) world boxing champion, chess grandmaster, and Nobel laureate in Physics medicine and chemistry. This is not consistent with an ic character development.

A simple way would be to counteract this by just capping the sum of all stat ranks by (just to give a number) 60% of the maximum value (would be 1440, instead of 2400). That way you have to consider carefully, which way you are going.

A useful addition would be to be able to undo an increase in rank, when you find you have gone a wrong way or for further development of currently already maxed out characters (pls, don't bash me for that  :) ).

This cap would only involve restrictions at very high stats. One could also think of a more complicated scheme, where a certain profile has to be maintained during the whole character development. For example, the third highest stat rank has to be a certain percentage lower than the highest, the fifth again lower by the same step. By making this step height low or zero at very low ranks, and increasing for higher ranks, a careful character development can be enforced (e.g a linear increase from zero to 10% maximum for the highest ranks). Notice the packages of two, or else no exchange of priorities would be possible....

All this is subject to the effect of stats in the game mechanics, which I have not a real feeling for, being a rather inexperienced player. So, please consider these ideas in the light of my experience.

After changing away from world preload the frequent drops were almost back to zero again, so for me it is not a big problem. But still, something seems to be wrong. Is the xml broken?
