For the first idea it could work but I don\'t think that anyone wants a polluting city in their only water reservoir.
And since the planeshift world is located in a cave floating cities would not be useful (besides how would they get them there in the first place?)

The problem with letting thieves steal from pc:s is that it is a PVP action and if you have that player versus player action in you must atleast add the ability to counter the thief pickpocketing, and a system where you can only counter a pickpocketing (and don\'t forget that the thief just can log out, directly after stealing, plus how long time till the player would not be able to retaliate, ? m, 1 m, 1 h, a year, never?) and then the system would not longer make sense, you can\'t waylay or rob someone but you can pickpocket, you can\'t strike someone down who has been standing for an half hour at your side cause your detect thief ability is not high enough and his pickpocket ability isn\'t high enough either, thus we are making way to pking and then when we have added this (for gameplay) we can just watch and wait for the pkingers to turn this game from a roleplaying game till a leveling game (remember it\'s not the gamemechanics that makes the game it\'s the player).

But then it is your expertise as a player that controls your characters skills and then planeshift would hardly be a crpg would it?

I still does have my good guild: The order of the hand, our guild is striving to be the Good guild (notice the capital G) and we are doing it in a very special way, by asking ourself all the time what will bring the greatest good to everyone and when we are sure that our way is right, we stop for nothing (except to rethink and adjust for the greatest benefit of all), our guild is saying that you can use whatever mean you want (be it classed as good or evil) as long as the goal is benefitting for atleast 51 % of the population.
We are a guild of scholars, magicians, warriors and thiefs, but in the first place we are always thinkers.

You should be able to buy clothes (clothes that are not tailored for you would be hindering in combat) and you should start with rags or something like that.
Different clothes would help you blend in in different parts of society, if you walked around in clothes made of silk and gold you would be robbed pretty fast in the poor areas.
And if you had farmer clothes on you, you wouldn\'t be accepted in the \"better areas\".

The pking issue has been overtalked about, please stop post about this. (it\'s getting annoying, seeing several posts about this every time you check the forum).

Yes, this is a good idea.

Metals are workable when they have reached a certain temperature, it varies depending on which metal of course, this could be empathised in this game, so you had to experiment with the metal (or ask a wiser smith), different ways of letting the tool cool, like fresh water, salt water and oil.
Different types of cooling jars, used to give the weapon (or tool) different qualities.
Different smithing Techniques (some techniques can not be used on some materials of course, once again test).

Bows are fast reloading, fast firing weapon that is great against unarmored people and leather armored people.
The crossbow is a slow firing weapon with excellent firepower, a good crossbow could rip off the arm of a knight in full armor.

Although it seems a little bit late now, my guild The Order Of The Hand is still going strong (or something like that), it\'s really old (from the forum before this), we are aiming at being as good as possible and we are really short in members...

it kinda seems everyone can contribute, and the more energy it has, the more powerful it\'ll be...

Yes, and the more powerful it is, the more powerful you need to be to contain it, magic isn\'t a toy.

but I think that would hurt small guilds too much, as their guild-level spellcasting would be highly dependant on the number of mages they have, and only as powerful as the weakest.

But small guild would probably only go to war with other small guilds, and larger guilds could crush them with superior numbers, besides there will probably be more magicians of low level in a large guild, therefore limiting how strong spells they could cast. (note: it would only limit how much energy they could throw in the spell, not the spell level. So two mages with azure way 8 for an example could either team up and use all of their magic points together or surround themself with weaker magicians and throw one level 8 spell each, the power they lay in it would be equal to the lowest  magic point multiplied with the number of participants.)

I am also agreeing with your idea of minimum number of participants in a ritual, it would force guilds to let lower level characters to join in a ritual.

And one note more, I think that it would require at least half an hour (ingame) to ready all things needed for an ritual (pentagrams for defensive spells and maybe animal sacrifices for offensive and so on.)

Rituals would be used (in my opinion) for summonings, raising of the dead, enchanting things, setting up defensive \"spheres\" (as long as the mages concentrates) against magic or physical harm, LARGE area effect (or overkill) offensive magicks, and so on.

This would make guild wars really interesting, as the mages are locked on defending/attacking each other.
(now everybody joins hands here and we will have toast to our evening tea).

When thinking of rituals where more than one person is involved (which my whole post is about) no single \"chain\" can be better than the weakest (in magic) link, therefore a chain of twenty magicians with a lowest magic score of say 2, would be as good as a chain with magicians whose magic value is no less than 4.
The more magicians, the higher chance that one is weak, furtermore, if one mage would fail to channel his power in the chain his link would be broken and all the ackumulated magic would burst out there, creating a random effect...

What about this instead:

All persons have an alignment, it is based on what you are doing against people when questing (and in your spare time of course), but you have one more meter, which is called reputation, this measures how known you are, ways to gain reputation is doing heroic things (be they good or bad), slaying a dragon is one thing that gives you reputation, burn a city down is another, the more known you are the better prices you get, if you are evil you get better prices at the merchant cause he does not want to wake up one night knowing he\'s not alone, and the good guy will get a discount cause he is someone you can ask for protection, the neutral is a person you know can do either of them.
Of course a good known (reputated) person can\'t buy fenced goods cause the seller knows he would just use it as evidence, and an evil person might have problems with the authority and would be at a disadvantage in a court, the neutral would have a slight disadvantage of both (but they will be accepted in both worlds).

Well, this about traveling were discussed a time ago (long time ago) and I think one of the devs said that they wouldn\'t include any teleporting to make the game world feel much larger than it really is and therefore give you a better gaming experience, this may have cheanged of course, but I\'m also wondering if there will be enough server capacity to have such a big world.
