Wish list / Re: Tell Disable
« on: July 23, 2010, 07:24:43 am »
How about a more novel way to look at them, I too have found that they tend to be OOC in Nature but the /me /my functions still works in tells as they do in the main chat so I have reverted to something more like '/my Messenger finds you and hands you a letter Reading 'Where Might one meet up with you to discuss an important matter' on the other persons tell screen it reads Hrothbert's Messenger finds you and hands you a letter......' You get the idea turn them into an IC type of communication.

Now I know that there are people that have tried to start a type of messenger service but the problem with that is if them to be efficient they tend to revert to tells to find the people the message is intended for which would create the same problem. Unless a person had a 'mailbox' of some sort there seems that the tells/whispers will be needed in the future.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: A breif window - then crash
« on: July 05, 2010, 07:20:35 am »
Not sure if it is the same with the Linux as it was with the mac but open up the pslaunch and make sure that a skin is selected otherwise it won't get past an initial start up, Again I am unfamiliar with Linux but this was a fix that worked for me.

Granted or negated Wishes / Re: A Timer for the DR Exit
« on: July 04, 2010, 09:27:37 am »
I'll concede on the gibberish part. I still think it would be funny though.

Now I had suggested the gibberish in another thread as a cumulative effect, e.g. .01 second added for every trip, that way for the earlier players they would never notice this as it would be too short of time and basically waiting to load would eat that up, but for the players that abuse the current death system they would quickly notice after their 400th time taking their shortcut they find that they can't talk to an NPC to sell their wares or finish a quest. The suggestion came from the settings for the DR which state that multiple trips and multiplied time spent there gradually wears away at a persons sanity, therefore when returning to Yliakum one would have an adjustment time to get their sanity back.

Though enforcing this might have some people very angry I thought that it might be a more unique way of dealing with resurrection. But if it were enforced I see no difference in that than the current filters which automatically convert things like 'c ya' to 'see you later'.

It was just a thought so that is my two cents you all are having a great discussion on this anyways.

@ligh I have a small problem I am pretty sure that it is said somewhere that the windowless tower predates Hydlaa, and the Xacha.

@Nivm- you are right that gold is non-reactive, that is pure gold, The gold in game is certainly not pure. Given that we are working in a medieval setting in the refining process there are plenty of minerals other than gold left in the stocks and ores that mined. On the other note carbon based lifeforms require a minor amount of silicon for their bodies to work properly, I am talking about less than 1 pat per million but it is still a requirement so it is with the Kran diet i suppose.

@ Nivm Your system is what is refferec to as 'botting', Setting up an alt character to solely mine for your main character with a program to make them dig in time, move over dig again, move over. This creates a very lopsided community and is why it is frowned upon.

About the powerlevelesrs some of them have been around so long that there is no changing their mind, and those are 'teaching' new players to do the same. I myself was 'taught' that levelling was the way to go when I fist started nearly 3 years ago, along the way I found it was a lot of time with little reward, My character is strong now Maxed in all stats 1 armour class and that is it he went on hiatus [as did I] He has returned and his goals are to increase in the desired areas as he grows, best way to do that is get the theoretical knowledge trained and as the experiences happen i.e. fighting or mining it grows

Thanks for reading this

@Dracaeon 'endless' hole the quotations make it so as it is not true to the absolute definition, The howling well as mentioned in other posts is a burial well and player accessible.

As to the closed system there is actually a book in the Library in-game that explains how the system is helped by the indigenous species that live here-in, Also there is one of these 'endless' holes implemented in-game and being that it is a player accessible area it is my belief that there may be a species that lives in it similar to our goats that will eat almost anything and dispose of it. Any way Just thought that I would mention some of the answers to your question are answered in the great Hydlaa Library

I  had a thought and this is as likely a place to put it as others, The Settings in the DR library and other sources within the game state that traveling the DR will cause one to go mad, especially after multiple visits and exits, I suggest a randomizing effect on ones speech after exiting the DR for a certain period of time say 1 second to start and 1 second added for every multiple trip, this would be done to simulate the Maddening effect of the DR aside from the Maze like world that will one day exist, Also after so many trips one would not want to have any more gibberish.

I know that there are those Required to go there for quests, training but given the amount of times you would have to travel there you would have a very minor Madness on leaving say 1 min or so very short compared to Dakkru's curse.

Anyway just for discussion.
