Mac OSX Specific Issues / [Original] Getting the updater working.
« on: June 29, 2008, 09:29:16 pm »
The updater shipped in the 0.4.01 release was a little broken unfortunately. We've quickly resolved the problem however;

1) If you're still running 0.4.00 or you have the 0.4.00 installer, you should be able to update from 0.4.00 to 0.4.01 with no problems.

2) If you don't fall into the above category then you will need to download and extract the updater into your planeshift folder, and then run the updater.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Updater
« on: March 02, 2008, 01:44:50 am »
Just to let everyone know, it's safe to run the updater now and we've already put a few fixes on it.

Make sure you run the updater with write permissions in the dir that it's installed in. For windows users that means running psupdater.exe as admin (so right click the Updater shortcut, click "Run as administrator" if it's there).

These fixes are unrelated to the server being down as of now if people are wondering. They include a few crash fixes and one art fix.

Please report any issues with the updater in this thread.

Thanks.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Tip to save memory
« on: December 05, 2007, 12:03:38 am »
Hey,

If your PC is low on ram (<512mb) I suggest that you turn off sound (in pssetup). This makes the client use about 100mb less memory on average, which might give you a significant performance boost, especially when loading maps.
We're working on a new sound plugin which will get rid of this high usage, but until that gets finished this might be a good option :)

General Discussion / Graphics testing
« on: October 17, 2007, 11:41:04 am »
Hey,

I need players to a little bit of testing for me. Instructions are below, I want people to only post replies with the information I need.

Open your psclient.cfg
At the bottom there are three lines:

Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_EXT_texture_rectangle = false
Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_rectangle = false
Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_NV_texture_rectangle = false

I want you to remove all three lines.

Open psclient and play around for a bit. If your client does not crash, reply to this thread with your graphics card name and model, and OS. If you know your driver, add that too.
e.g. No crash on Geforce 7950GTX, Running Windows XP

If it does crash then add the first line back to the bottom of psclient.cfg
Try running psclient again.

If it doesn't crash, reply to this thread with the line you added, and the graphics card name and model etc. as said above.

If it crashes, add the second line and try again.

If it doesn't crash, reply to this thread with both the lines you've added, and the graphics card name and model etc. as said above.

If it crashes, add the third line and try again. It will not crash this time, so reply to this thread with all three lines you've added, and the graphics card name and model etc. as said above.

Thanks.

Linux Specific Issues / Temp fix for bronzedoors blackness
« on: September 13, 2007, 11:53:42 am »
As a temp fix to bronzedoors blackness:

Download this file, and then:

1. Locate the file bronzedoors.zip (Planeshift3D/art/world/bronzedoors.zip)
2. Re-name it to something like bronzedoorsOLD.zip (Planeshift3D/art/world/bronzedoorsOLD.zip)
3. Save this re-named .zip file to somewhere outside your PS Client folder
4. Save the new bronzedoors.zip file that you downloaded from the link to the same folder the old file was (Planeshift3D/art/world/bronzedoors.zip)

Then check BD again. Good luck.

Linux Specific Issues / Uninstall at your own peril!
« on: July 29, 2007, 12:56:27 am »
I just did a test install of PS and tried uninstalling... and it wiped my /opt (as root user) dir as well as my PS dir. I'm not sure why it did this, but for now it's probably safe if you just delete the PlaneShift dir manually and don't use the uninstaller. I don't want anyone to lose anything important ;)
