I randomly used a line from a poem I wrote about over a year ago in RP tonight. It wasn't planned, but the moment brought it to mind. Upon logging off I opened the text file which holds most of every poem I've written in the past five years to find it and read through it. It was written on a riverboat sailing down the Mississippi. It was a private party and all the other passengers were getting ripped, while I sat contemplating the works of Rilke, watching the sun set, and composing poetry. I tell you this because I believe you and I are the same. We fail to reconcile with the world we find ourselves placed, so we spend our time creating our own.
So, for the beatnik in all of us, I'd like to share the poem with you now, and also include a haiku when I'm finished. Feel free to post your own works. Please consider the following: This thread should only contain poetry, no commentary on the poetry already posted. Also, posts should be limited in length. If you should be so disposed to want to share your entire oeuvre, please do so at a reasonable pace, not all at once.
So sit back, sip your double soy latte, and enjoy. cool daddy-o.
The Subtleties of an Evening Cloud
There is truth in distance
sadness in the last of the dying stars
the sin of asking anything from anyone
is as great as
not giving what is asked
as not taking what is given
the weight i carry
the desperation for something static
there is peace in the subtleties of an evening cloud
peaches in pear juice
delicate as the
scrolls of the sea of the dead
decadent silk legs
