After some lengthy deliberations we finally got through the preliminary steps to make an official Planeshift videogame trailer.   :sweatdrop:

So now that it has been done I will start with the production process and I need a lot of volunteers to help out  ;)

Here are the open positions for the project. Please mail all applications to aznakh@gmail.com or PM me.

Please do not post applications in this thread.

I usually check my mail daily. As the title says this will be the official trailer for Planeshift and this might go into gaming websites and so on ... so it has to look very professional.  8)
More details will be given to the people once they are involved.  :-X

Cameramen / Camerawomen: open 0/4 [COMPLETE]

Needs capturing software and possibility to encode into uncompressed video (quicktime readable format)

Voice actress: open 0/1 [COMPLETE]

Has to be a native english speaker with a good articulation and intonation.

2D Artist open 0/1 [COMPLETE]

Actors / Actresses open4/13

Has to be able to work in team. I will need actors for the following roles: (e.g. it would be good that people have characters of these races)

- 1 Enkidukai [Assigned]

- 1 Hammerwielder (should have some forging skill) [Assigned]

- 1 Lemur

- 1 Kran [Assigned]

- 1 Ynnwn [Assigned]

- 1 Klyros [Assigned]

- 1 Nolthrir / Dermorian [Assigned]

- 1 Ylian [Assigned]

- 5 Figurants 2/5

I want also to thank all the people who will be participating in this in advance and I hope that it will be the best video game trailer ever, because Planeshift doesn't deserve less.  \\o//

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Is the script written ?

Yes, and it has gone through 3 major revisions and several minor ones.

2. Why can't I see the script now ?

The script will be revealed to the cast and crew once the cast and crew have been established. The reasons for this are obvious as we don't want any leaks since the content of the trailer is supposed to stay a secret until it's release .

3. But I cannot sleep at night ... I want to see the script

Get involved then and apply to be a volunteer.  ;D

4. What software do I need to be a Cameraman / Camerawoman ?

Anything that allows you to capture and encode in a Quicktime readable format (.mov .mpg .dv and some .avi encodings) with a minimum resolution of 1024x768 and at 24 fps. Those are the only requirements.

5. What is the time schedule for shooting ?

The time schedule will be set up once the recruitment process is over. I will establish a roster that tries to suit everybody.

6. Will the shooting be done on a private server or the official server ?

As it is the official trailer it shall be done on the official server. It is also in order to have all the armor skins and crafts available.

7. With what software will the editing be done ?

Final Cut Pro

8. Why don't you want to use a voice actor in the trailer ?

For the very reason that the atmosphere we want to give in the trailer will be best rendered by a female voice and that a female voice suits best with the script.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Version 0.3.017 First Bugs
« on: December 11, 2006, 11:36:46 pm »
Hello everybody,

I started this thread so that we can regroup all the noticed bugs here and off course to the bugtracker. Allright I start:  :beta:

- Gamma not displaying correctly. Intensley bright floor texture.  (nearly hurts the eyes  8) )

I will edit as I wade through the game more and discover new things. Also i suggest people to make a clean install of the game on this update. I downloaded the client from the ftp link given and it works fine so far.
And again a big  \\o//  for dfryer.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Apple download page way outdated
« on: October 10, 2006, 06:41:51 am »
Hello everybody.

I have been browsing the OS X downloads page on apple.com and went to the games/rpg & strategy part. When I went to the Planeshift page (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/role_strategy/planeshift.html) I was baffled.  :-X
First thing I noticed was the screenshot which is still an MB Screenshot and the second thing I noticed was the download link which leads to version 0.3.13  :o
I think it would be time to update that  ::) since many people will actually discover the game through there. If nobody has the time to do it I would gladly propose myself to keep it updated. However I would like to get permission first.  ;)

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Mac OS Forge
« on: August 30, 2006, 08:29:57 pm »
Hello everybody,

I know it's been a long time but I have been rather busy. (too much work  :sweatdrop: ). I have been checking my e-mail today and received the ADC Newsletter  .
And guess what, the headlines were about an Apple sponsored site for open source projects a la sourceforge.  \\o//
I just wanted to announce it in case dfryer did not know about it yet. Who knows, maybe it is a way of attracting new people to work on the OS X version of Planeshift  :detective:

Here is the url: http://www.macosforge.org/

I hope this will offer great prospects for the future of PS on OS X.

The Hydlaa Plaza / Scary stuff and a legitimite question
« on: April 28, 2006, 09:24:02 am »
Allright. I haven't been on for a while now. Yesterday I was surfing around and came across this on the Apple website

Quote
from http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/

As elegant as it gets
Boot Camp lets you install Windows XP without moving your Mac data, though you will need to bring your own copy to the table, as Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows.(1) Boot Camp will burn a CD of all the required drivers for Windows so you don't have to scrounge around the Internet looking for them.

Well I couldn't believe it at first, but then after checking out again and again I have come to the conclusion that it was the real apple website  :o
After calming down, and realizing that there would be absoloutly no point in running XP on a mac with OS X I started realizing something which made my hair stand straight. If people will be able to run Windows on their intel mac software developers might use it as an excuse to stop developing software for OS X. Since the cost of developing the same software for two distinct platforms will be high they might see it as more profitable to let people buy the windows version and install windows on their computer. ::|

Are we facing here the next big apple flop or is it some genius plan from Steve to crumble the windows empire ?  :-X

Mac OSX Specific Issues / 0.3.0.13 First Bugs
« on: March 03, 2006, 03:32:29 am »
All right ... I couldn\'t resist trying the client once I got it downloaded ...

And here are the first bugs I could notice (at least on my configuration)

- The shortcutbar doesn\'t draw correctly. There are only 4 shortcut buttons and I cannot modify them through the .xml file as I used to.

- The chatwindow is transparent and remains transparent allthough I chat or go over it with the mouse.

Now let\'s help Dfryer by continuing the bug hunt ... please do post bugs only once.  8)

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Rosetta
« on: March 02, 2006, 01:44:09 am »
Allright,

I simply cannot resist the temptation anymore and decided to buy by the end of the month, beginning next month a Macbook Pro. :baby:
However I am concerned about how Planeshift will perform with Rosetta. The built-in PPC emulator.
Aparrently the applications that were running during the demonstrations by Steve Jobs during the keynote speech were pretty smooth.
Either way I will give regular reports on performance once I get it.
However I would like some insight on problems I could face.  ?(

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Just a suggestion
« on: February 28, 2006, 07:44:17 pm »
Maybe it would be a good idea to add something like a developpement status part to the Mac Client Status post.
In there dfryer or Chaos could post how far the mac compilation is. Like for instance: \"Compiling graphic libraries.\" or something like that. It doesn\'t have to be long ... just a sentence or two to give people an idea how far we are (and to let them know how hard a job it is :D )
This way you would avoid all those posts about when the new client will be out.
It\'s just a tought, but it could avoid a lot of hussle.
But then again it would be only a plausible solution if you have the time for it.

Ok folks,

you heard it. Apparentley the whole GUI will get an overhaul. ( If we understood correctly. :D )
So I decided to start this thread to allow people to post what they would like to see changed in the GUI. I hope that this will help the devs to find a good direction to go. Also I do apologize if such a thread already exists. i didn\'t mean to be repetitive ;)
Also never forget the famous \"WHY\' Question. :D

Ok as far as I am concerned I have already talked in my previous post about the spellbar issue. you can read it here:

http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=21037&boardid=11&styleid=3&sid=5c2393d92ad8251285fb59cfbe161d9d

Allthough the window layout is fully customizable I think it would be a nice thing to be able to lock them together like in a lot of programs where you are able to lock palettes together to save screen real estate.
In the end a GUI should be 2 things, intuitive and practical.
Allthough these are 2 totally subjective things it should be possible to find a middle measure that suites everybody.

PvP,PK and Thieving / Factions
« on: December 12, 2005, 03:26:24 am »
Hello everybody:

In my experience with MMORPGS (and they are quite a few) the only PVP systems that were enjoyable and viable were faction based and limited to certain areas.
First of all the factions (which can be anything: Deity, Race, Good vs Evil, Realm, etc...) give the PVPing experience a role-playing foundation. Besides it filters out the possibilities to have wild PVP-players which would spoil the playing experience. It will also increase the teamwork feeling and grow certain bonds between players.
In order to make such a system viable it would have to be limited to certain areas where peole of separate factions can confront each other. For instance the Cities and their immediate surroundings will be safe due to a high concentration of guards which protect the citizens of that city, however the farther you get into the wilderness the more chances you have to get attacked.
This will encourage players to group up if they want to go hunting on certain monsters which will be only in those areas.
It is just a tought, but in my opinion it is the most viable PVP system. Especially since in Planeshift there are no levels it would allow less experienced players to enjoy the relative safety of the city and it\'s surrounding areas before adventuring into the wild.

Off course the dead realm will be an entirely non PVP-zone to avoid endless dead loops. =p

Wish list / Ok ... this should be a simple one
« on: December 12, 2005, 02:08:48 am »
Ok, i think that the PS GUI is great ... except for one little detail which keeps bugging me. In my humble opinion a spell shortcutbar would be no luxury.
Since now a healing spell has been implemented, and as the game progresses there will be intense combat situations in which sometimes for instance a character will have to step out of melee and heal a suffering companion. In this instance it would take too long to open the spellbook and fiddle around to find the correc spell and .... well you see where I am getting to.
So it would be really grand to have that handy tool implemented. And besides .... think of those poor people who will want to make a magic oriented character.
I think it would greatly enhance the GUI, and it would save a lot of screen real estate to enjoy those beautiful environments.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Display sleep bug
« on: August 17, 2005, 12:58:32 pm »
Hello,

I just updated to .011 and the update went very smooth. I could log on and got to character creation and everything goes fine.
However I had the display sleep timer on my Powerbook set to 1 minute and left the computer for a while.
When I came back and wanted to wake the display it didn\'t, it just remained black. I waited for half an hour and had to reset the system (command-ctrl-power).
Would you like me to post the console log for this ?

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Various bugs I have noticed in 0.3.010
« on: July 06, 2005, 04:28:27 am »
Hello,

I did a fresh download of 0.3.010 and ran the updater through the terminal. Here are some bugs I have noticed.

I hope this helps out a bit:

1. Chat client doesn\'t scroll as new input comes in. I have to manually scroll down.

2. Keyboard configuration is not being saved. I have to reconfigure it everytime I launch the client.

3. The game simply crashes 8 times out of 10 when I pass into a differently mapped area. Not load a different area.
e.g.: Exiting a door, entering the temple, entering the forest, etc.....

4. Some flashing graphics when I enter the new zone which has been added to the city.

5. There are also some stability issues whenever I accidently move the mousepointer out of the client window. The game would simply not respond for a couple of seconds.

Also I don\'t know wether full screen support has been implemented yet but if I click on the green enlarge window button the game would crash.

Again, these are some bugs I have noticed as a simple user of the client and I hope that these observations help in searching in the right direction for further development.

My configuration is a Powerbook G4 15\" Superdrive unmodified (1.5 GHz G4, 512 MB RAM, ATI Radeon mobility with 64 MB VRAM)
