General Discussion / Re: Bad guys, good RP(!/?) [OOC]
« on: February 13, 2016, 08:09:23 pm »
Nice and interesting topic that is close to my hart!

... and also one that I have been struggling with my whole PS live! ... I have been thinking about how I should play my role in PS for years now. It is hard to play a bad guy is a butterfly-we-all-hug-eachother world.

As chief of the Prophets of Chaos I have been 'involved' with hundreds of robberies over the years... Also been part of the great guild wars, have been camping on PvP spots many times (sometimes out of frustration that RP-ing a bad char if simply harder ;-) ).
One of the reasons we lost a lot of players was to split bad RP- 'bad chars' from good RP 'Good chars' hence the appearance and death of the ez.. server and basically the death of "Bad chars" from PS ...

...from this period onwards i am living with a split personality....

Bad RP-ers aren't bad purse and can learn too. First of all for me personally when I started, I did not type quickly, I had a crappy old computer and by the time I had a reply ready I had to read through again 3 beautifully constructed sentences which made my badly constructed sentence obsolete. So I figured a robber would fit me as it was less typing...

I love PvP and I think when you do a robbery if sucks to do it RP-wise only what's the point of having skills beats me otherwise... so I stopped doing it. RP-ing you are a very strong and quick while your PS skills are not if bad RP in my opinion.  Would you expect from a robber to behave and talk politely and wait with patience till its opponent starts talking two sentences a second? This simply does not make sense. If I hold my sharp axes aggressively to someone's throat in a quick and swift way this player, if it has normal senses, would not talk so much and be scared to death and drop anything it has. This is unfortunately not happening most of the time.

"Good guys" do not easily accept defeat and try to RP there way out that's simply playing badly a "Good char"!  How can you choose to ignore RP on an RP server? That's just nonsense. If you are about to be robbed there is nothing you can do about it as mostly these are surprise attacks out of the blue. You cannot just run though a blockade either ... "Good chars" should play along or (and here is my motto:)

"Good Chars" do bad RP too like Volki said...

One thing I would love to see in PS is everyone's skills so you cannot RP around it. If you meet IRL a robber you'd be pissing in a corner without any word and do what he instructs you to do. PS is more than just RP you are bound to your skills

... perhaps it is time I put my potions in the closet for a while and concentrate more on the bad part of my personality I almost forgot  ;-)

(btw.... the other personality has become my alter ego Striker although he is strictly not good either, naturally, he pretends to be good for you...)

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Nouveau drivers and PlaneShift.
« on: April 03, 2015, 11:35:31 am »
Yes in order to play Planeshift or any 3d with in linux you should use the nvidia driver as the nouveau driver does not support 3d capabilities.
Most distributions offer it in their package management system.

General Discussion / Re: PS on laptops with intel integrated graphics
« on: September 27, 2010, 05:50:19 am »
I run PS on a Dell d620 with an intel graphic card in it on Ubuntu 10.04 (i915 driver). Works a bit slow at times but still OK if not too many objects in the neighborhood.

hello sliss,
did you change /usr/games/bin/ps*sh as write in the first post ?
you should change inside this files cel/lib/cel to cel/lib/cel-1.2
see you
loux

whoops... I didnt check this msg. Now I can start up but I get the atomic blue login screen and Vengence user trying to connect to a localhost. How do I get it to connect to the server?

found it:

Had to add a server to data/server.xml --> <server name="Fragnetics" ip="laanx.fragnetics.com" port="7777" />

Linux Specific Issues / Ubuntu? I just lovin it!
« on: September 26, 2007, 02:58:22 pm »
I love ubuntu! I work on Linux for like 10 years redhat 5 was my first. Than for a long time Mandrake. Went on with Gentoo and still am as I think it is the best.

But.. Ubuntu is quite nice.. I use the development version Gutsy (7.10) on my laptop and I am very happy with the result. end of October Gutsy will come out of development and man it will be great! compiz-fusion out of the box. Lots of nice features are on its way. And to compare it back to gentoo installing a new package is way quicker.

ps is not working properly on ubuntu though ;-) but didnt put much time in it either.

Well I can just speak for myself, but I started off with Gentoo right away, and had a VERY hard time figuring things out...

aii :)  well it is a good start I think as it shows you how the system really works and gives you very much options.

cheers,

Has there been some changes lately? I do not have textures it seams. really strange I must say.

Do I need to run the updater perhaps??

It is fixed... I recently updated the nvidia driver and needed to set correct permissions:
Code: [Select]
sliss dev # chmod 0666 /dev/nvidia*
sliss dev # chown root /dev/nvidia*

cheers.. happy playing

Oops...

I have 2 questions [SOLVED]

1) How can I start as a user instead of using the root? I needed to restart in order to get my user into the games

2)   I can't start teh client:
could not load plugin 'cel.physicallayer'
1980 Couldn't load plugin for PlLayer.
    1980 <src/client/psengine.cpp:520 Initialize>
1980 FATAL ERROR: Couldn't init Cel Manager.

was also solved by 1)

General Discussion / Re: Fighting on Plaza ALWAYS OOC???
« on: July 09, 2007, 07:22:17 pm »
Hi,

First of all: I loved the battle! I think these 'events' make playing PS a little bit more exciting. At least it is better than training cw at level 90 or leveling black smith!

it is, in my opinion, very much ooc to wait at a spawn point and kill someone right away before he even gets the chance to react - also imho it's senseless to war down there, since it's the realm of the dead, one is already dead when he enters the realm, killing the dead? :P [again, this is just my opinion]
I agree in DR we went to far... especially the spawn killing. Drah I think you killed me like 20 spawns one after the other ;-)

Cebot, did you read the books in the citadel? I think it said that you aren't dead if you are in the DR...

Cheers and let the chaos spread the worlds
