Wish list / Availability of Shovels
« on: August 29, 2019, 03:26:18 pm »
Pardon me if some of this is incorrect:  I wrote this some months ago.

I was seeking any merchants who would sell
   Tools - Farming
      Shovel
 but found none.

Gardr Keck, blacksmith in Gugrontid, carries one but doesn't sell any nor respond to queries regarding shovels.
The Klannarr sisters have them.  A statement from Aleena implies that you can get one from Nyshyn if you proceed through the Thieves' questline — such would be useful if money was scarce for some persons, but that's no cause to have shovels unavailable from other folks

I don't remember if shovels were necessary for harvesting rooty veggies.
Otherwise, shovels could be used for simple character and roleplay — especially if we could call up the animation anywhere.

Forum and Website Discussions / Unable to access Dev Nexus

« on: April 27, 2019, 05:22:44 pm »
I was stopping by to look at my Prospects account, at the url "http://194.116.72.94/nexus/overview.php?function=myaccount", when i receive a 403 error with the message that Apache permissions do not allow me to view it.

I've had trouble with the Dev site for many months now; i don't remember what the trouble was when i first encountered it, but i have been unable to see the Nexus on every attempt which i have made since... some time in 2018.
I seem to remember mentioning this on #planeshift.

This is probably related:  http://207.244.96.64/PlaneShift/smf/index.php?topic=43329.msg483996#msg483996

Surely the Devs are able to co-ordinate their work somehow.  Is a tracker maintained on a different server now?

In-Game Roleplay Events / Hwokmar's Malady
« on: November 15, 2018, 04:32:01 pm »
[ One of my new characters is Hwokmar, a brash warrior–type and veteran from the Stone Labyrinths. However, to explain his low stats, I've decided that he would recently begin to show an episode of some malady or disease. Would anyone be interested in appearing in the plaza and taking him to the Sanatorium or somewhere like that? ]

General Discussion / A better implementation of the Drawing skill?
« on: November 05, 2018, 04:21:21 pm »
The Drawing skill.
As it operates now, there is no way to practice it, so there are a few trainers who offer repetitive quests for you to improve it.  I say ‘repetitive’ because their dialogue doesn't change to simulate a new lesson each time you speak with them.

It is possible that this particular skill in the UE4 version was discussed but that I never saw it.

Anyway, so those quests are a placeholder, of course, for the fact that the act of drawing really doesn't function like any of the other ‘jobs’ skills.
To that end, I would like to submit this for discussion and consideration:
  • Allow users to draw or import images. Vector graphics with information embedded for shading, hatching, and other such effects in regions — we probably want to have different materials and tools used when painting or sketching: like charcoal, oils, brushes, daubers

  • Those images are then used as plots to render something much like with crafting.
The chief factor in the fidelity of the resultant drawing, compared to your original, would be your skill in Drawing; of course, you could add complexities like “beginner's luck”, subpar tools, your mental stamina, distractions in your environment versus the Will stat

  • Each time your plot is rendered on a new substrate — paper, canvas, wood, metal, whatever, — you gain ‘practice points’.

Personally, I prefer a different paradigm to implementing skills that distinguishes among familiarity with particular recipies, generic proficiency, and a few other things.

General Discussion / Getting a certain something on a certain quest
« on: November 02, 2018, 07:51:19 pm »
I'll ask this in the least spoilery way that I can think to do

This certain quest is one which allows you to get a certain mount that resembles a stingray.
You are asked to go to a certain someone (person A) and get a certain something, then bring it to a certain other someone (person B).  Yet another person (C) is mentioned also.
What if I gave the certain something to that certain someone C rather than someone B?

All I'm looking for is a yes or a no:  Is there only one way to get this certain mount in this certain quest?

Complaint Department / Where did all the Ylian women go?
« on: October 23, 2018, 03:00:56 am »
I've been cataloguing most of the npcs with names which I encounter as research for my story.  I know that you can find much of that info on various websites, but I don't want out–of–date or inaccurate info.

There's something I've come to notice:  I have not yet met a femaile Ylian.

I understand that many of the npcs were populated long ago.  Female Ylians probably weren't even in the system then — I don't know.
Does that explain at least two of the female Dermorians — Rinna and Gayla?

Now, they use the figure of a female Ynnwn.
Finara, for example, appears to be a genuine Ynnwn and not a Ylian.

There are a few Lemurs and Diaboli.

Wish list / more OOC chat channels (non dev)
« on: October 22, 2018, 08:23:49 am »
This is both a notification and an invitation for discussion.  I am not asking for any of these to be included in the game as is the gossip channel, so there's no need to bother the devs with any of this.

In my PlaneShift autoexec.xml file, I have these channels in addition to the gossip one:
/join alerts for rp
/join meta but no spoilers
/join meta

The purpose for the ‘alerts for rp’ should be obvious:  If one of my characters is in a certain location or doing a certain thing, then I can tell other players and maybe have them log on with an alt or decide “hey, maybe my character want to go there for some reason”.  Can also be used for spontaneous notifications like a tavern brawl or an impromptu public gathering somewhere.
Meant for when IC methods wouldn't get the word out well enough and when few players are online.

The ‘meta’ and ‘meta but no spoilers’ are for discussions about how the game is working and whether something needs improved or whether a player doesn't quite know how to accomplish something.
They are somewhat less formal than the Advisor system.  Probably not much need for them here.

General Discussion / Compiled Timeline
« on: October 21, 2018, 03:49:23 am »
I compiled this from all the pages on the main website at http://www.planeshift.it/.  Did some very minor editing to combine similar items and also on some of the grammar, syntactic punctuation, and the like.

I attempted to put up the text version, but it exceeds the 4000 byte maximum.
This database version is better, anyway.

ODB file via DropMe service, 59494 b

Overall, it is always a laudable achievement to make such a huge timeline with so many occurrences.
However, while going through it, I did begin to notice a few improvements which could be made.  Let me know when my request to be a Prospect for Settings has been approved so that we can discuss those improvements.

Collaborative Stories / Novella upcoming
« on: October 16, 2018, 03:39:43 am »
I have begun outlining a ‘novella’ which will take place in Yliakum, the “Death Realm”, and other places.

Anyone who is interested in contributing any of their characters to the story, and collaborating with me in writing it, please post your intentions either here or in PM to me.
By the end of Novari — I mean, November, — I and any who expressed interest shall then go through a brief, group discussion over dividing the authorship duties and the premise of this story.

Word of warning:  It will be drastic and semi–epic.  Gods will be getting involved.

Meanwhile, I shall continue outlining and doing my research.

I did a search here for "other bronze doors", and looked at both https://www.planeshift.it/Settings and http://planeshift.top-ix.org/pswiki/index.php?title=Bronze_Doors.

If there is a book or NPC who can tell you the names of the fortresses other than the Eagle one, then please point me in that direction.

The Hydlaa Plaza / Cartooniest Moments in PlaneShift
« on: October 12, 2018, 06:52:07 am »
I'll begin.
Quote
Taemian Yangnk says: Now I have to warn you, this anvil weighs 200 kilograms, so don't accept this task unless you are strong enough to handle it.
Taemian Yangnk says: Can you move this item for me?

Gedundk says: Sure, I can move that!

Taemian Yangnk says: Okay then, here is the anvil.
Taemian Yangnk says: Tell Harnquist I sent you so he knows who it's from, and he will give you an assurance note.
Taemian Yangnk says: Return with that note and give it to me.
Taemian Yangnk says: Careful; this anvil's heavy.

>You struggle under the weight of your inventory and must drop something.
>You have received a Heavy Anvil.

Taemian Yangnk wipes sweaty hands on his tunic again.

Wish list / Revision in Settings: No Burials
« on: October 05, 2018, 05:26:55 pm »
Sprung off something I read, on these boards, regarding the Death Realm and corpses.  Also, working to make the game mechanics more consistent with their Settings.  Frankly, I hadn't really bothered to consider such a thing for PlaneShift yet.

When any animal dies, sentient or otherwise, let's say that its soul — whatever magic animates it — goes to the Death Realm and brings its body.  Sentients are able to bring their immediate possessions with them, but nonsentients lack the wherewithal to do so.

Thus, there are no corpses in-game.

From in the DR, the animal can either manage to return to the Life Realm or Vital Realm or whatever, or it remains in the DR.  Or, it experiences “true death” in the DR, which occurs either immediately or gradually.
If it experiences such “true death”, then the material of its body is somehow recycled to the lands of the living again — via magic working in reverse of whatever pulled its corpse towards the DR.

Forum and Website Discussions / suggestions for new MyPlane achievements
« on: October 04, 2018, 01:44:12 pm »
The first class I considered was the Exploration group.
https://planeshift.teamix.org/myplane/help/3

It really needs one achievement for each city.  We can add meta-achievements later when additional levels are added to the in-game environment.
What about the wilderness?  What about dungeons?  The Eagle Bronze Doors?  Don't forget about zones like Shindrok's Crater.

Then, I looked at the Progression group.
https://planeshift.teamix.org/myplane/help/2

Seems decent enough.
I would add some for a few of the longer “quest chains” which get you in with a few more of the major or more notable organizations.  After all, these characters are all on an RP server.
Of course, this would require tagging those quests in the database first.

The final group is PlaneShift Loyal Fan.
https://planeshift.teamix.org/myplane/help/1

It could probably be renamed to PlaneShift Loyalty or something.  Otherwise, there isn't much I could see which would be useful here.  Maybe you could add some achievements for a player's score as an Advisor.

Complaint Department / recovering date-of-birth for a Character
« on: October 04, 2018, 05:30:28 am »
I honestly don't know if this is the best place to ask such a thing.  Maybe the Wish List?  But I've posted enough there for a while.

Mostly, this is complaining about something I failed to do:  make a note of a certain character's birth date as chosen during character generation.
Such information should probably be available when viewing your “Character Creation” info — that much could be a complaint directed toward the interface, and would warrant a request for that feature.

To conclude this little ramble, I would like to know this:  am I required to submit a Petition for that character so as to retrieve the information?  Is it even possible — is it stored in the database?
Is that information saved somewhere locally when you upload a new character?  I can't see it.  If it was in the cache folder, of course, then it is certainly gone now.

Wish list / Restrictions on using Glyphs in Hydlaa
« on: September 26, 2018, 10:34:20 pm »
Hydlaan guards require you to pocket, holster, or sheath your weapons in public spaces.
They don't do anything about your Glyphs, though.

Now, seeing as how they don't hold your weapons or require anything like that, how would they go about enforcing a similar ban on casting magic?

I have two suggestions for this.  One involves an item, the other does not but is also a tad more complicated.
  • the Ensconcer
    worn on the neck.
generates a buff which prevents casting any spells that target anyone other than yourself.

The buff can be explained as a form of skin–tight shell.  A spell shell, if you will.

When seen by a guard in Hydlaa, the guard performs the same sight–check to see if you are wearing it.  If you are not, the guard demands that you put it on — same as with weapons.
If you've lost yours, you can explain the situation and buy a new one.  If you have extras, you can return one for a refund of your temporary deposit.
  • Magic Dampening Poles
A similar result, but the buff is from an area effect caused by being in proximity to certain things like lampposts.  They either prevent spells entirely or prevent them from being cast on others.
