« on: January 09, 2009, 01:07:21 am »
A light footed Lemur puts up posters in the city of Hydlaa. Likewise, messengers deliver the news to Gugrontid and Akkaio as well as other cities in the dome. The posters read:

Quote
It is the pleasure of Octarch Iragdun Salikarios to announce the creation of the Octarchal Society for Progress, an organization that unites guilds that work to improve the quality of life in our realm and preserve and promote opportunities for social growth in all fields.

All Guilds that aspire to be a part of the Octarchal Society for Progress must participate in an annual contest, by presenting a proposal that answers the following question:

“What would you do with the resources of the Octarchy in order to improve the quality of Life in Yliakum?â€

Below, the rules and requirements are listed.

Tuip Naltayroth walks around the city giving away flyers and offering information about the OSP. Look for him if you have any questions or if you're ready to submit your application.

As he finishes gathering the reports about the OSP presentations, Tuip Naltaryoth adds a final note to his dossier:

Quote
A good crowd gathered in front of the courthouse in the library district as the most important citizens of the dome were escorted by the Hydlaa Guards. Leading the group into the premises were his Lordship Octarch Iragdun Salikarios and Vigesimis Amidison Stronghand and Datal Allavium.

In order, the representatives of the four organizations applying to the Octarchal Society for Progress presented their proposals, in front of the jury and citizens. In a process that took several hours, we heard the words of The Red Crystal Organization, represented by Miss Aiwendil and the Octarchal Champion Mr. Orgonwukh; of the Explorers Guild, led by Mr. Mordaan; of the Knowledge Seekers, with Mr. Erelenga and Miss Andoryn as speakers; and of the Tyndale Trading Company, led by Tolian Tyndale and Miss Ayvlis.

The proposals were varied in nature. The Red Crystal Organization proposed a vaudeville to entertain and foster cultural events and the performing arts in Hydlaa. The Explorers suggested the creation of outposts in the wilderness where travelers and citizens can find survival training, guided tours, fairs, and other outdoors activities. The Knowledge Seekers requested that the OSP provide a new venue for the University of Yliakum, a place where all citizens of the dome can expand their education. Finally, the Tyndale Trading Company proposed the creation of a Bank, for which they requested initial funding from the Octarchy, that could increase the wealth of its investors, give new opportunities for its clients, and fund charitable work with its profits.

After each presentation, the Jury addressed each speaker with questions about their projects, after which citizens were allowed to ask their own.

Now that all applicants have been heard and their projects have been explained in detail, the Jury have a tough decision to make.

Becoming the first members of the Octarchal Society for Progress is a great honor and a grand responsibility and it shall open many doors for those bestowed with the coveted batch. Not only will they be granted funds and logistics to set up and run their projects but they too will have the chance one day to be in the Council of the OSP and assess future proposals and applicants just like they were evaluated today.

May the best win.

Tuip Naltaryoth
Official Secretary of the Octarchal Society for Progress

[In the courthouse]

Tolian says: A 3.
>Player Mordaan has rolled a 10-sided die for a 7.
Aiwendil briefly look at the others before stepping to Tuip to reach in the bag

Erelenga says: 6
>Player Aiwendil has rolled a 10-sided die for a 10.
Tuip says: Very well.
Orgonwukh grins
Tuip says: We shall start with the highest number
Tolian nods
Mordaan breathes a slight sigh of relief
Aiwendil looks at her number and smiles
Tuip says: You can go back to your seats now.
Aiwendil looks unsure at Tuip "All?"
Tolian sits down with a sigh of relief
Tuip shouts: And now my friends. Let us show our respect for the honorable jury, led by our own Iragdun Salikarios, Octarch of the Dome!

>Eurac Hog stands up.
Eurac sighs.

[Red Crystal Organization]

Tuip shouts: Let us hear from the Red Crystal Organization! Representative, step up here.
Aiwendil walks leisurely to the lectern taking care not to mess up her dress. In her hands, the diaboli holds a few pieces of paper.
Aiwendil steps behind the lectern and hits the edge of the papers a few times on it to align them. Then she places the papers on the lectern and stares at them for a short moment. Finally looks up to the crowd, smiling warmly "Greetings to all of you."
>Orgonwukh stands up.
Orgonwukh steps next to Aiwendil, looks her over from head to toe, then smiles impishly at her and mumbles "Nice dress, sister." After that he looks at the audience, arms crossed before his chest.
Orgonwukh says: Greetings from the Octarch's champion as well.
Orgonwukh grins self-confidently
Eurac sneers.
Aiwendil turns towards Orgonwukh, looking surprised at him. Unsurely she stumbles "What do you do here. I thought I..." She stops and forces a weak smile on her face "But nice to see you."
Orgonwukh smiles at Aiwendil and nods affirmingly "Go for it, I did not mean to interrupt." then looks at the audience again
Ayvlis looks a bit angry to Giroum
Aiwendil nods and turns back to the audience to continue with a charming voice "I'm here today to present you our suggestion for the Octarchal Society for Progress. We, the Red Crystal Organization, want to support the cultural events here in Hydlaa. In order to ease this task we suggested the creation of a Vaudeville called "The Red Crystal Den" in Hydlaa."
Aiwendil takes a short look at her notes before raising her voice again "This vaudeville could be used for various events. We already have plenty of ideas of what could be done there like Theater plays, Story and Poetry contests, Music events, Fashion Parades and a lot more. But of course the vaudeville would be open for events of others too. In this case the Red Crystal Organization will provide the stage and the security personnel for those performances. And, if wished, we would also care for the physical well-being of the audience by serving food and drinks."
Eurac scratches his beard.
Xairia quietly greets Wrair, and motions to beside her.
Aiwendil giggles softly and gently elbows Orgonwukh "Or just to meet a nice fenki"
Aiwendil takes a deep breath, looking over the audience and then continues "For the time the vaudeville is not used for any performances it could serve as a meeting point for people who enjoy a nice atmosphere for their conversations and maybe some background music. It could also serve as a place for people to discuss matters of public concern. Another thing we would love to do there is to provide artists with a venue for displaying and selling their art work."
Zakrei smiles
Orgonwukh chuckles impishly
Aiwendil leans slightly forward to put the top paper to the back of the pile and quickly scans the new page. Then the diaboli raises her head, addressing the audience again. "So what we do ask from the Octarchy to make our vision come true is providing us with a house here in Hydlaa for the vaudeville. I personally think this would be a great way to support the culture in this town."
Amidison glances between Aiwendil and Orgonwukh, gaze settling on Aiwendil.
Orgonwukh nods affirmingly while looking at Iragdun
Aiwendil looks around, obviously looking for someone while continuing "If there are any questions I would be honored to answer them now. We also prepared a short summary on the vaudeville". A glimpse of a smile appears on Aiwendil's face as she spots Dalgin. She points at him and raises her voice again "You may ask Dalgin if you want to have a copy of the summery... or me later on."
Tuip nods.
Orgonwukh looks at Dalgin shortly, then back at Iragdun
Tuip shouts: Now, let us hear the questions of the Jury! Answer wisely, applicants, for much depends on it.
Aiwendil smiles weakly and nods
Orgonwukh nods once
Tuip looks at the Jury
Eurac says: Thank you Sir.
Iragdun says: Aiwendil ...
Dalgin says: Of course.
>Iragdun Salikarios stands up.
Aiwendil slightly bows to Iragdun and looks up again, waiting for the question
Iragdun says: I'd like to ask...you mentioned theater, which I might enjoy....
Iragdun says: what sort of theater did you have in mind?
Iragdun says: by that I mean comedy or sattire or... ?
Orgonwukh looks questioningly at Aiwendil
Eurac raises his hand.
Ayvlis gazes deeply
Orgonwukh says: Well...
Ayvlis looks at the public
Aiwendil can't help but smile "We are open everything there. But maybe Orgonwukh here should answer to this question. I think he is much more into this than me. We already talked about some comedy plays..but also about some more serious once"
Orgonwukh says: I think people need people need a laugh now and then, right? People are working so hard all day, so this would contribute a lot to the atmosphere, I think.
Iragdun nods agreeably
Eurac raises his hand higher.
Orgonwukh nods with a smirk
Dragnoor suggests comedy as it always puts a smile on the punters faces
Aiwendil nods "But of course we would offer others the chance too to do their self writen plays in the vaudeville"
Iragdun says: very well...I'm sure my colleagues have more to ask...Datal?
Tuip signals Eurac to take a seat and wait.
Datal says: sure
>Datal Allavium stands up.
>Iragdun Salikarios takes a seat by Small Table.
Eurac nods
Datal says: miss you have stated that you will have various use like a theatre or to host art from various artists of yliakum but what frequency are you planning to host such events? and with what frequence are you going to allow others to host their own?
Dragnoor says: good question
Orgonwukh looks expectingly at Aiwendil
Ayvlis looks suspected that Aiwendil takes so much time in her answers...
Aiwendil nods "Our current plans are about doing a greater event about every half of a year. But we also plan to do some smaller events between those. For the events of others. This highly depends on how often others ask for it. If it's not too much wokr for us I think once a week should be no problem if needed"
Aiwendil says: [In-game time: Half a year = 1 month]
>Eurac Hog stands up.
Carua sneaks in quietly
Tuip nods
Orgonwukh smiles affirmingly at Aiwendil then looks at Datal
Datal nods "thanks for the answer miss. ... Then i think i will leave the word to Amidison "
>Datal Allavium takes a seat.
Amidison smiles.
Aiwendil looks curiously at Amidison with a warm smile on her face
Andoryn whispers: Hey Eurac. Could you please sit down? Can't see the proceedings.
Amidison says: In regards to funding - what plans have you put into place. Profits would go towards....? Do you request any funding....?
>Eurac Hog takes a seat.
Andoryn whispers: Thanks.
Orgonwukh takes a deep breath as if he wants to speak, but then hesitates and looks at Aiwendil instead
Aiwendil shakes her head "We don't request any fundings from the Octarchy beside the house for this. For the Profits we thought we mostly use them to pay the artists or as rewards for competitons. And of course to provide guests with food and drinks"
Orgonwukh nods affirmingly "...and drinks."
Mordaan chuckles
Beckford says: Hear hear
Dalgin chuckles softly
Aiwendil gently pokes Orgonwukh again, lowering her head to hide a smile
Amidison nods, shifting her gaze to Orgonwukh, "You mentioned providing secuirty, as you know the safety of our people is important. You have the resources to do this?"
Orgonwukh grunts at the poke and sniggers
Orgonwukh nods to Amidison and takees a breath
Orgonwukh says: As you know, I am the best fighter of Yliakum...
Iragdun raises an eyebrow
Orgonwukh says: And of course I use my knowledge in this area to train security personnel. No worries here.
Orgonwukh adds "Ma'am."
Aiwendil nods "We have some people who will do an excelent job with this. The sercurety of the guests is indeed a very important task. But it's also important to protect the artists if a guest isn't pleased with their preformance"
Datal nods in agreement
Amidison chuckles softly. "Of course."
Eurac smiles
Amidison bows her head to Iragdun, "Back to you, Sir."
>Eurac Hog stands up.
Aiwendil chuckles and nods "And with this strong diaboli at my side it doubt we will have any problems with troublemakers"
Aiwendil says: [I doubt*]
>Iragdun Salikarios stands up.
Beckford mutters something under his breath
Iragdun says: Thank you both for your time and presentation today. We'll take all we've heard under consideration, certainly.
Iragdun smiles
>Zakrei claps for Aiwendil Hallacar.
>Iragdun Salikarios takes a seat.
Aiwendil bows towards the jury
Mordaan applauds politely
Eurac raises his hand.
>Giroum Duphra claps for Aiwendil Hallacar.
Aiwendil smiles warmly "In conclusion please allow me to thank all of you for listening, and let me take this chance to wish the rest of the participants good luck with their suggestions." She grabs her papers and slowly leaves the lectern, heading towards the crowd again.
>Dalgin Xawanda claps for Aiwendil Hallacar.
Orgonwukh makes an overstaded bow
>Giroum Duphra claps for Orgonwukh.
Orgonwukh follows Aiwendil
Eurac says: Excuse me, I have a question.
Orgonwukh stares at Eurac
Aiwendil stops and looks at Eurac "Sure...'m honored to answer your question Eurac"
Tuip says: Let us hear the question of the citizens now. Though we only have time for one or two.
Eurac says: Amidison mentioned profits.
Aiwendil nods but looks slightly unsure at Eurac "Yes...?"
Eurac says: You say that the premesis will be available to others to use. Does the...
Eurac coughs...
Eurac says: Red Crystal Organization intend to set a fee for the use of this venue?
Datal whispers to Iragdun "it seems an interesting question"
Mordaan nods
Iragdun whispers back, "they should recovver some expenses, I'd think"
Datal nods
Aiwendil forces a weak smile on her face "I think this depends on what others ask from us. If we are sllowed to sell some food during one of those events and they only want us to provide a stage I guess we don't charge any tria from them. But if the events needs a lot organization on out side I think a small fee would be alright"
Eurac says: Thank you.
>Eurac Hog takes a seat by Small Table.
Aiwendil says: [allowed*]
Iragdun nods thoughtfully
Orgonwukh says: We are a non-profit organisation. We do not exploit citizens.
Datal nods
Orgonwukh shoots a short look back at the representatives
Aiwendil nods to Eurac and then continues to walk to the bench
Tuip shouts: Very well. Thank you, Red Crystal Organization. You may be seated.
Orgonwukh nods to Tuip and sits down next to Aiwendil
Aiwendil turns around and smiles at Tuip
>Aiwendil Hallacar takes a seat.

[Explorers]

Tuip shouts: Now, let us hear from the representattive of the Exprorers Guild.
Giroum puffs on his pipe
>Orgonwukh takes a seat by Marble Bench.
>Mordaan stands up.
Orgonwukh puts his left hand on Aiwendil's knee and leans towards her to whisper into her ear
Mordaan approaches the lecturn, shuffles through his notes one last time, looking briefly worried, then smiles looking up confidently.
Mordaan says: Ladies, gentlemen, kras...members of the Octarchal Society for Progress... Thank you for hearing our proposal this fine day.
Mordaan says: The Explorers Guild is among the oldest guilds in the land. We pride ourselves on knowledge of the land and knowing all the safe and unsafe paths to many destinations. Our proposal centers around the establishment of an outpost, or even a series of outposts in well traveled locations between popular destinations, where there is otherwise nothing other than the long lonely wilderness.
Mordaan says: Places like the roads between Hydlaa and Ojaveda and the Eagle Bronze Doors. Weary travelers must often rest during these long journeys. Though these paths may be popular and well traveled, they can still be dangerous for even the most experienced travelers. Creatures and bandits prove worthy obstacles. And for those less experienced, it is easy to get hopelessly lost. It would be nice to have a bit of an oasis along the way...a safe haven where travelers can rest.
Carua nods
Mordaan says: So we propose an outpost which will serve a number of functions. First, a welcoming camp-like atmosphere with a few tents, a camp fire to light the night, and perhaps even some crafting tools like preparation tables and maybe even a furnace. But this outpost can also serve as a gathering place for various events. One location we have in mind would be on Bronze Door Road, past Korogan's Pass from Hydlaa. There is a plateau near a carrot patch.
Erelenga grins, he knows the carrot field...
Mordaan says: This location is often used as a gathering place during Ulbernaut hunts in the area. It can also be an ideal place for hosting tournaments and other events, and the outpost could serve as a gathering place to organize such events and hold ceremonies. We could also host our own activities there, which brings me to the other aspect of our proposal...
Mordaan says: In addition to the physical outpost, we also propose hosting a series of events, to be held on a regular schedule which would vary depending on our own availability, the availability of outside help we could hire, and of course demand for such events. Event ideas are wilderness training, guided tours, a series of fairs, as well as hosting some of these group hunts ourselves.
Mordaan says: To elaborate on some examples of each idea... Wilderness training would consist of things like how to recognize herbs, how to avoid bandits, how to avoid being attacked by creatures, and how to use landmarks to navigate. Guided tours would be given in several areas, pointing out such landmarks, mine locations, places where herbs are known to grow, and which paths are safe and which are not, as well as tips on how to avoid getting lost.
Mordaan says: Examples of fairs are a cooking fair, a crafting fair, a mage fair, and so on...where people can gather and discuss their experience and accomplishments in these areas. There could be presentations and demonstrations on food created, weapons and armor crafted or acquired, or knowledge on magic or anything people wish to gather to discuss.
Mordaan says: As you can see, the range of events would be of interest to newcomers as well as long time citizens. These events could tie into the outpost or they could be independent of it...tours for example could start anywhere. It is a very open ended idea and there is plenty of room for growth and input from the jury.
Zakrei caughs
Mordaan says: Our hope is to start with one outpost...ideally in the Bronze Door Road location I mentioned, but that is negotiable...then if proven successful, perhaps even additional outposts in other locations...whereever the need may be.
Mordaan puts down his notes and bows
Mordaan says: Thank you for your attention. I am sure you have questions?
Erelenga nods respectfully at Mordaan
Tuip says: We shall now hear the questions of the Jury
Datal nods
Datal says: shall I?
Iragdun nods
>Datal Allavium stands up.
Mordaan looks to Datal and nods
Carua raises his hand "If I may intrude....."
Datal says: i had a question. How are you going to staff this outpost? Obviously such a place is supposed to have always someone there in order to help travelers.
Datal says: are you going to keep someone always there at all hours?
Carua lowers his hand as the vigesmi speaks
Orgonwukh raises a hand while looking at Tuip to signalise that he has a question
Mordaan says: We have two ideas on staffing. I don't think it is feasable to have someone there at all times...
Tuip nods at Orgonwukh and signals him to wait.
Mordaan says: But we can staff it ourselves and perhaps call on volunteers to help in that manner.
Orgonwukh lowers his hand again and puts it on Aiwendil's knee again, then he nods to Tuip
Mordaan says: [yes, an eventual NPC would be nice. ;)]
Datal says: so there won't be expenses to staff the place? or you need something to found it?
Mordaan says: The only expense I anticipate is if we require to pay staff for their services.
Mordaan says: I doubt citizens would want to devote such time for nothing.
Aiwendil raises an eyebrow at Orgonwukh motion but says nothing
Mordaan says: And Exploers presence is thin as of late.
Mordaan says: *Exporers
Mordaan says: But...
Mordaan says: If this idea catches on, it could help us as a guild as well as people of the land.
Carua riases his hand once more
Datal nods "thanks for your answers now i think Amidison has some questions as well"
Orgonwukh gives Mordaan a pitiful look
>Datal Allavium takes a seat.
Xemmas raises his hand
Ayvlis raises his hand
Amidison nods, "Just a couple."
Carua clears his thoroat "if I may...."
Amidison turns her attention to Mordaan, "Will you be charging a fee for your events, tours, and fairs? And how will people be able to contact you if they are interested in your activities?"
Mordaan says: These events will all be open to the public. No fees will be necessary...
Mordaan says: If people wish custom tours, we could discuss a possible nominal fee for that.
Ayvlis lowers his hand signalising that she has no more answers
Mordaan says: The bigger events will be well publicized...anyone can attend.
Xemmas still have his arm rise
Tuip nods at Xemmas and asks him to wait with a look.
Xemmas gets the look and waits
Amidison nods, "I see...you also mentioned the possibility of crafting to be done at the outpost, have you given any thought on how that will affet the local and established smiths in the cities?"
Amidison says: [affect*]
Carua says: Why would this be a solely Explorers Venture?Surely, such an outpost would be a public structure for civilian traders
Dragnoor says: i doubt that would be an issue the smiths in hydlaa working flat out as it is
Amidison says: I see.
Amidison turns to Iragdun, "Sir."
>Iragdun Salikarios stands up.
Iragdun says: greetings Mordaan
Mordaan addresses Amidison "I think there is a need for an additional place to smith in a place that is nowhere near any other place to do so."
Mordaan nods to Iragdun
Dragnoor says: here here
Amidison nods to Mordaan and smiles.
Iragdun says: If I may ask a bit about logistics...
Carua says: yes,But I know that area happens to be full of rare minerals would it not be better policy for the Explorers not to have a monoply on said resources
Xemmas put is arm back knowing that his question is been andswer
Orgonwukh raises his hand again, looking at Tuip
Iragdun says: You describe an outpost or encampment in the far regions of the land...what might you provide closer to the city gates to direct travelers in the direction of your establishment?
Iragdun looks around noticing the hand signals
Firiban turns his head and nods to Akashani, smiling.
Mordaan says: I am hopeful that word of this location would be sufficient. If not, perhaps a poster or two would help.
Tuip leans forward "We'll allow citizens to ask questions once the Jury has done so".
Mordaan says: This initial location is near the main path...the fire should be a good beacon for it's existance.
Orgonwukh nods to Tuip and once again puts the hand on Aiwendil's knee casually
Iragdun says: To a point, perhaps the guards can be sufficiently informed of how to direct others in your direction I suppose
Mordaan looks around
Hakisho rises the hand.
Mordaan nods
Aiwendil giggles softly and slides a bit closer to Orgonwukh
Carua nods
Amidison glances at Aiwendil and Orgonwukh, frowning slightly at the disruption.
Iragdun says: And you need from us...what exactly?
Firiban looks at the jumping klyros angrily
Mordaan says: To help us set up this camp...ensuring some rogues don't run off with the tents and such.
Mordaan smirks
Orgonwukh removes his hand and looks apologising at Amidison
Iragdun raises an eyebrow - "so your security becomes our problem, then?
Orgonwukh says: [*removes his hand from Aiwendil's knee]
Mordaan says: That and help getting the word out...certainly approval from the Society will help legitimize such a venture.
Xemmas raises his hand again
Iragdun says: Could you answer my question more directly, please?
Mordaan says: Presence of staff should be enough to keep undesirables away.
Iragdun says: ahh I see
Mordaan says: I think I heard a question about a monopoly?...
Iragdun says: Well a safe haven certainly would be valuable in some areas....
Iragdun trails off in thought
>Iragdun Salikarios takes a seat.
Mordaan says: This location will be free for all to use.
Tuip says: If there are no more questions from the Jury, we shall proceed to a few questions by the audience.
Dragnoor says: [location is it bd1 or 2?]
Hakisho says: It would be nice to see more signpost at junctions, which information where this path leads to.
>Orgonwukh stands up.
Firiban says: [bdroad2]
Mordaan says: It will not be exclusive to the Explorers...just provided by us.
Carua nods in agreement
Carua says: [bd road 2]
Dragnoor whispers ,,thx
Orgonwukh looks expectingly at Tuip
Xemmas says: I do have a question
Tuip says: Citizen Orgonwukh had a question.
Orgonwukh nods
Orgonwukh grins challengingly at Mordaan "Well, as far as I know from my reports, there actually exists such an outpost already next to the path from Hydlaa to Ojaveda which provides exactly what you explained just. Maybe you just ask the guys at this camp if you can join them, hmm?
Orgonwukh me looks around with a broad grin
Tuip nods at Xemmas "You can go next"
Aiwendil watches Orgonwukh expectingly
Giroum clicks his tongue, but can`t help smiling
Eurac smiles, uncomfortabley in agreement with Orgonwukh.
Mordaan looks to Orgonwukh "...Camp Banished??"
Orgonwukh nods
Mordaan says: I think that belongs to the rogues.
Firiban tries to hide is laughter, but can't.
Carua sniggers
Mordaan says: It will need to be taken from them first.
Mordaan winks
Eurac grins at the answer.
Carua says: Was that not over run by the Eagle Gobble tribe
Mordaan shades his eyes and looks for Xemmas
Orgonwukh raises an eyebrow "Rogues? I heard is is an outpost as you just said. Why would the octarchy allowe rogues to have a camp?"
Orgonwukh says: *allow
Xemmas waits until Orgonwukh finishis
Aiwendil shrugs her shoulders and mutters quitely "Never was there"
Mordaan says: All I know is that doesn't seem to be a safe place.
Firiban raises his hand, looking at Orgonwukh angrily
Tuip points at Xemmas "Your question Sir"
Xemmas says: Yes...
Carua says: [perhaps bigger tents ,that people can ctually walk inot ,would be nice]
Orgonwukh shrugs "Just an idea. You could use your 'staff' to secure that place then, eh?" then he takes a seat again and nods to Tuip
>Orgonwukh takes a seat.
Xemmas says: How are you planing to build such and outpost?
>Xemmas Egaveff stands up.(18:21:49) Xemmas says: a couple of tables and tends? or an actual structure?
Mordaan says: That's where the Octarchy comes in...we would need assistance to build it suffenciently.
Tuip signals Xarirev to approach.
Mordaan says: Yes, a few large tents, a camp fire, and few other things to make it look nice and...campy.
Firiban still has his hand raised
Xemmas says: Oh, of curse...
Xemmas says: I wonder because you said you only need the Octarchy to provide protection
Beckford stifles a laugh
Tuip whispes to the guard.
Dragnoor says: the otarchy can always contract it oout hehe
Xarirev listens carefully to Tuip
Xarirev nods
Mordaan puts away his notes
Ayvlis yawns, this meeting is taking so much time
Tuip says: Very well.
Eurac frowns at Ayvlis.
Firiban lowers his arm and raises the other one.
Tuip points at Firiban "Sir, your question. This will be the last one"
Eckar wonders how long Firiban will have to have their hand raised.
Mordaan turns to look
Giroum shifts his pipe and puffs away, then looks up at the guard making the rounds
Firiban says: in response to what Orgonwukh said...
Orgonwukh looks expectingly at Firiban
Xarirev whispers to Orgonwukh "The guards will want a word with you later about this camp you mentioned/"
Aiwendil turns her head to Firiban, looking unsurely at him
Firiban says: ... he talked about a camp on the way to Ojaveda.... The explorers want another camp on the way to the Eagle's, so that's something completely different and doesnt exclude each other, does it?
Xarirev looks at Orgonwukh and walks back to his position
Orgonwukh looks up at Xarirev, then nods
Mordaan says: No, our idea is independent of any existing camps.
Firiban smiles
Tuip says: Very well. Thank you, Mordaan, for your oresentation. You may step down.
Mordaan says: Thank you for your time.
Firiban apploudes
Aiwendil claps, watching Mordaan leaving the stage

[Knowledge Seekers]

Tuip shouts: Let us hear from the representative of the Knowledge Seekers now!
>Erelenga Karal claps for Mordaan.
>Erelenga Karal stands up.
Mordaan wipes his brow and sinks a bit in relief
>Erelenga Karal greets everyone.
Erelenga clears his throat...
Erelenga says: Ladies, Gentlemen, Gemmas - welcome to the presentation of the Knowledge Seekers' proposal for the Octarchial Society for Progress. Your numerous appearance is highly appreciated. I am certain that a major part of this audience will be interested in more details afterwards - but please respect the order of silence, I will be available further on.
Dalgin says softly. "here you go, sir."
Erelenga says: This presentation will explain to you the goals and plans we have for a general, public education campaign, based on courses offered not only by, but under the coordination of the Yliakum University, and for full-time students [ guild members ] as well as part-time students [ those already in another guild ].
Erelenga says: As not all of you may have noticed, the Yliakum University already exists for several generations. Even the current administration only has a vague description of the roots, as most of our history nearly got lost.
Orgonwukh frowns
Erelenga says: Still, we keep up the legacy of such notable praesidiors like Sir Lordbug Dosaki, or Lady Arka Garam. Since the power of the Mighty Mugs founded this organisation, our motto is and was: 'We come to teach.'
Erelenga says: Our desire is to fill the world with the knowledge of art and science, and the wisdom to use it for the wealth of the society. Unfortunately, it appears that the possible benefits from the education are underestimated often...
Mordaan nods at the recognition of these names
Erelenga says: Therefore I wish to briefly explain the possible benefits the society will receive from education. Those benefits are important to all people, from the workers and merchants to the armed forces and the government.
Erelenga says: Highly educated and experienced employees will be the guarantee for a healthy business, and employment is a most important source of a strong society.
Erelenga says: Our desire is to fill the world with the knowledge of art and science, and the wisdom to use it for the wealth of the society. Unfortunately, it appears that the possible benefits from the education are underestimated often...
Erelenga says: Therefore I wish to briefly explain the possible benefits the society will receive from education. Those benefits are important to all people, from the workers and merchants to the armed forces and the government.
Erelenga says: Education will improve our economy: Experienced crafters will be able to create goods of high quality at reasonable costs, and educated merchants will sell them with appropriate profits, but without profiteering.
Erelenga says: Highly educated and experienced employees will be the guarantee for a healthy business, and employment is a most important source of a strong society.
Erelenga says: Education will improve our ecology: Natural ressources can be harvested efficiently, and avoiding considerable destruction of the landscape, synergies can transform destruction - where unavoidable - into creation of new landmarks.
Erelenga says: What used to be a dry running mine today, could be a farm or a place for recreation tomorrow, instead of just a dusty hole in the ground.
Erelenga says: Education will improve our security: Armed forces who learn efficient use of weapons, of armor, of the surroundings in tactics and strategy, and of cultural and behavioural knowledge, will prevail against enemies from outside and inside.
Erelenga says: Furthermore, superiors understanding the wishes and needs of subordinates, and subordinates understanding the commands and terms of the superiors, are prerequisites for an efficient line of defense.
Erelenga says: And finally - education will improve our society: Success, confidence, moderate profits, expressibility, politeness, comprehension - an educated society has good prerequisites to be a happy society.
Erelenga says: A society that has no permanent fear. A society that is able to pay food and taxes. A society that has leisure time to spend with the family and with art and culture - (looking at Iragdun) like theater, for example. A society that can be proud of their government.
Erelenga says: So much about what the Knowledge Seekers can do for the society, by realising an education campaign, hosted by the Yliakum University. Compared to all the possible benefits, the required investments are little...
Erelenga says: But they are essential, nevertheless! Good education cannot be done just anywhere... except for courses outside in the nature, most courses need to be held in classes, with books and exercises, with some level of silence for concentration.
Orgonwukh covers a yawn
Erelenga says: Some courses even need practice lessons with tools and appliances - and specific rooms to build up apparatuses and storage room to keep them for the next courses. This all is something our old building cannot provide anymore.
Erelenga says: We do not demand. We do not persuade or even beg. We wish to convince you that education is necessary, and that an investment in good education will bring a remarkable return to the whole society.
Erelenga says: We heard of plans to create a Community Center of Art and Education. So we would be very honoured to be allowed to host a wing of such a building at least, as a compromise and alternative to a renovation of the old university building.
Erelenga says: So I remain with the hope that I was able to explain our plans and desires to you, and that you will honour them in the Octarchial Society for Progress. Thank you for your attention. Our prospectus will be available to interested readers.
>Erelenga Karal greets everyone.
>Erelenga Karal snaps to attention and salutes.
Iragdun says: I can start
>Iragdun Salikarios stands up.
Orgonwukh raises his hand again while looking at Tuip
Iragdun says: greetings Erelenga and thanks for your well thought presentation
Iragdun glances at Orgonwukh
Iragdun says: sir, as has been mentioned, we'll ask for questions from the gallery in due course
Tuip acknowledges Orgonwukh with a quick look and nod
Iragdun says: please have some patience
Iragdun looks back to Erelenga
Erelenga nods.
Iragdun says: first, do you currently have trained staff to offer classes?
Erelenga says: Courses will be held regularly with a schedule. We have in-house professors, but we will also try to recruit guest lecturers for specific topics. There are comprehensive courses for full-time students [ guild members ] and compressed courses for part-time students [ e.g. members of different guilds ].
Iragdun says: Am I to understand that membership in your organization is prerequisite to learning?
Erelenga says: No, as I mentioned, part-time students are welcome too.
Erelenga says: That may include members of other organisations...
Erelenga says: Like crafters, city guards, merchant organisations...
>Andoryn Thaakor stands up.
Andoryn says: If I may?
Tuip looks at Andoryn then back at Erelenga
Erelenga says: My colleague, lady Andoryn Thaakor, may explain this more detailed.
Iragdun turns to Andoryn - "go ahead"
Tuip says: Please, step forward, Miss.
Andoryn says: Dear jury. Our motto doesn't apply only to the members of our guild. We come to teach. To anyone and everyone, regardless of race, or level of knowledge.
Erelenga says: The Yliakum University offers courses of different topics, related to our departments: Magic; Metallurgy and Crafting; Communications and Storywriting; Stalactite Studies; Ylianities. Most of the topics will be rather advanced and scientifical, though ... you may assume that reading, writing and calculating are some prerequisites for a study. Apart from that, we offer courses to all students regardless of age, gender, race or religion. And we highly appreciate requests or offers of lecturers with a certain specialisation and expertise.
Andoryn says: We actually expect other people to be guest lecturers.
Iragdun says: Very well then...and what do you need from the Octarchy, specifically, besides the making available of a building space?
Erelenga says: Well, in fact ... the required space is about the only thing we cannot build on our own.
Andoryn says: That does depend on the openness of the space. If the building is to be public, we would at least need some trunks to store your lecture materials in.
Erelenga says: The Yliakum University will take moderate course fees. Education shall be affordable to all people. Details will not be a topic today, though. Larger funding will be part of the full-time studies - as regular work will be the practice lessons our students and professors will need, and a part of the sale of the results of crafting courses will bring the major income to the university.
Andoryn says: *our
Andoryn steps down.
>Erelenga Karal salutes Andoryn Thaakor with respect.
Tuip looks at the Jury
Iragdun says: Indeed...that's helpful, thank you. Amidison, did you have a thought on this?
Amidison says: Just one.
>Iragdun Salikarios takes a seat.
Xemmas raises his hand once again
Amidison says: You mentioned you would hold classes where items will be made. What types of items and will the materials needed for these classes be provided by the University to the students? Will those items be sold for profit after class? Well, I guess one was an understatment, I am just curious if there is an underlaing business plan here we may not be aware of.
Amidison says: underlaying*
Erelenga nods.
Erelenga says: Yes, crafting courses will require a certain amount of practice.
Erelenga says: The results of this practice will be the requirements for other follow-up courses on one hand, and a source of income on the other hand.
Erelenga says: But mainly from full-time students.
Erelenga says: Do you have anything to add?
Amidison says: Are you expecting to have crafting on premisis or using the local smiths?
Andoryn says: We would only require a minimal fee for materials supplied by the university. But we would ask students to bring their own materials if possible.
Erelenga says: I believe the existing forges will be suitable for the coming months and years...
Tolian raises an arm
Andoryn nods
Firiban raises an arm
Eurac smiles
Amidison nods thoughtfully, "Datal?"
Datal nods back "sure"
>Datal Allavium stands up.
Giroum removes the pipe from his mouth and raises his hand
Datal says: so you are going to use the local smith forges you've said for now. this means in a future they will be needed right? also this means you will have to old classes in those places? Any other tools which are needed and aren't available from the local smiths, also for teaching other craft?
Andoryn says: Our courses transcend the at of crafting, but we would use existing means of teaching, if available.
Andoryn says: *art
Erelenga says: I fear the development will show our needs. But I am certain that more places will become available with a raise of need.
Erelenga says: I already think of the future when alchemy and herbalism may become more popular.
Andoryn nods at Erelenga
Erelenga says: Then I expect some need for a laboratory... but our discoveries in this area are at the beginning.
Andoryn says: Field courses ae also in order.
Datal nods "another question if I may. There is a possiblity also for who isnt in your organization to follow a full course?"
Andoryn says: One can't teach Yliakography without going out. For example.
Erelenga says: Well, a full course is quite time consuming. In that case, one may only be aither student or employee...
Erelenga says: In my opinion at least.
Erelenga says: *either
Datal says: so it's just a question of the fact you don't think people who aren't fully dedicated might have time but you would accept without problems also outsiders if they really asked?
Amidison looks curious, but refrains from commenting.
Andoryn says: There is ample opportunity for anyone, sir. We don't hold back.
Erelenga says: We don't wish to hold back employees from their workplace.
Datal says: good
Beckford yawns
Erelenga says: We can only recommend to concentrate on either a full-time job, or a full-time study.
Datal says: in case you will need in future those laboratories for alchemy will the poeple of hliakum be able to use them too for their needs? even when not attending a course?
Andoryn says: We only devide in full and short courses, since there are people for short courses, aswell as, pardon the title, illiterates.
Mordaan snickers
Erelenga says: We won't demand an exclusive right to use a property twhich was designed to be used by the public.
Erelenga says: We would even offer our support to guide the use of it.
Amidison frowns at the murmmering in the crowd.
Datal nods "thanks sir i think that's all if someone of the others have other questions"
Andoryn says: I don't expect any interference from skilled people if they use the gear, personally. But teaching does come first for us.
Datal says: sure i agree
Datal says: thanks for your answers again
Tuip looks at the Jury
>Datal Allavium takes a seat.
>Erelenga Karal greets Datal Allavium.
Tuip says: We shall proceed with a few questions from the audience.
Firiban's arm is still raised
Xemmas awaits for his turn speaking
Tolian moves his arm
Orgonwukh's arm is still raised, too, even longer than Firiban's arm
Tuip points at Orgonwukh "Sir, you first."
>Orgonwukh stands up.
Giroum also has his arm up
Orgonwukh stands up and clears his throat "I wonder what will happen when people start to send their children to university. The number of miners, guards and soldiers surely will decrease. Who will support the octarchy with men and platinum for public security?"
Orgonwukh sits down again and looks at the jury with a serious expression
>Orgonwukh takes a seat.
Aiwendil watches Orgonwukh from the corner of her eyes
Erelenga says: Education and work is not neccessarily exclusive.
Andoryn asks Erelenga: If I may?
Orgonwukh frowns
Dalgin looks up, worried
Erelenga says: We provide courses in several areas, and not all courses need to be most time consuming.
Mordaan looks around at the raised hands and gets comfortable
Orgonwukh mumbles "...do not know an intelligent guard at all."
Erelenga says: Mineralogy, for example, will help to mine more efficiently, taking less time to gain a comparable result.
Aiwendil quickly pokes Orgonwukh side
Erelenga nods at Andoryn
Andoryn says: The wealth from learning doesn't give anyone a path. If people want to follow lessons, they ae welcome. Their jobs are a whole other thing. That's their path. We can't guide them in that.
Orgonwukh grins impishly at Aiwendil
Aiwendil slightly shakes her head, rolling her eyes
Tuip points at Xemmas "You Sir"
Rarodele raises hand
>Xemmas Egaveff stands up.
Xemmas says: thank you... I have understand that you will make a distinction in the teaching regarding guildmates or outsiders? isnt this a recruiting publicity.. and is going to be a fee for learning in this school?
Orgonwukh covers a yawn, then mumbles to Aiwendil (still loud enough for the people around him to hear him) "I have to go for a pee. Let me know what happened, sister.", then he sneaks outside [I have to go. bye]
Erelenga says: As I tried to explain before...
Xemmas says: if so... what are you going to do with the money?
Andoryn says: People commited to teaching, as we are, do need special skills. But for knowledge, there is no distinction.
Erelenga says: A full-time study requires a lot of time and concentration.
>Orgonwukh stands up.
Aiwendil nods to Orgonwukh "Sure. See you"
Xarirev looks at Orgonwukh as he crosses the room
Erelenga says: Full-time students may not be able to have anotehr full-time job besides the courses... in my opinion at least.
Andoryn nods to Erelenga
Firiban rolls his eyes
Tolian keeps his arm raised
Tuip point at Firiban "Your question, sir"
Erelenga says: Study fees will be part of the required funds to keep the university up and in shape.
Xemmas says: yes, I do know it requires time, but someone totally focus on study even if isnt in your guild wants to do full study will be allow to do so?
Rarodele keeps arm raised
Firiban clears his throat.
Firiban says: Today, people use to educate theirselves by visiting and training with a person skilled in the profession they want to learn. This has worked well for ages, why do we need your system of classes and such? Hydlaa has reached a good level of wealth without it, why should we replace the traditional system of paying a teacher for learning with a new system of learning together with others at a university and paying for that instead? You can't call most of the citizens uneducated or unskilled!
Erelenga tells Xemmas: Further details may be part of individual contracts...
Andoryn says: Anytime, sir. Full courses will be available, but in set ranges.
Xemmas says: ok... thanks for the andswers...
>Xemmas Egaveff takes a seat.
Andoryn says: Sir Firiban. Your question?
Firiban says: Today, people use to educate theirselves by visiting and training with a person skilled in the profession they want to learn. This has worked well for ages, why do we need your system of classes and such? Hydlaa has reached a good level of wealth without it, why should we replace the traditional system of paying a teacher for learning with a new system of learning together with others at a university and paying for that instead? You can't call most of the citizens uneducated or unskilled!
Dalgin nods
Andoryn looks at Erelenga
Erelenga nods.
Andoryn says: me nods.
Andoryn says: Sir...
Andoryn says: The teachers around Yliakum know their bit.
Erelenga says: Your point of view is not at all wrong, Sir. Not everyone may need a university to become a skilled worker.
Firiban grins and raises his eyebrows
Dalgin waits, expectantly.
Andoryn says: We can provide full courses, but the teachers will have their purpose still.
Erelenga says: An advantage of the university will be that there are several specialists of a specific field of knowledge.
Erelenga says: We have experience in putting together knowledge from different sources.
Firiban nods "still gonna be expensive to keep them at the university"
Erelenga says: Something a single teacher may not be able to do easily.
Andoryn says: We can't replace the teachings of someone like Levrus. We can only augment to it.
>Eurac Hog stands up.
Eurac raises his hand.
Tolian waits for his turn to ask a question
Tuip nods "Does that answer your question?"
Firiban says: well, it's what i expected....
Firiban says: continue
Tuip says: Very well.
Rarodele keeps hand raised
Tuip points at Tolian "Your turn."
Tolian nods and stands up
>Tolian Tyndale stands up.
Tolian tilts his head and gives Erelenga a questioning look "I wonder why you did not apply for funding so you could offer free education? If you were offered funding, would you make your education available for free?"
Erelenga looks at Tolian with a slanted head.
Andoryn says: What an odd question.
Firiban grins
Erelenga says: Not at all without purpose though...
Erelenga says: Of course it may be interesting to be funded, to offer courses for free...
Andoryn says: We have to live aswell, sir Tolian. We would lecture for free if our income was certain.
>Arkonin Drapthal takes a seat by Court Hall.
Xemmas ask Arkonin please sir.. could you not sit on me...
Tolian nods "That is what I wanted to know. What yearly funding would you require to offer free courses?"
>Arkonin Drapthal stands up.
Erelenga says: But that requires a wise decision. It sometimes calls for obligations.
Eurac says: We seem to be going in circles with this, can we here the next presentation?
Zakrei raises his paw
Andoryn says: That wholly depends on the courses, and course materials needed.
Aiwendil nods to Eurac's comment
Erelenga says: This won't be a topic for this meeting right now.
Firiban whispers to Torias "now he tries to sell them one of his financial products that turn money into more money"
>Arkonin Drapthal takes a seat.
Tolian nods again "Very well. That is all I wanted to know, thank you."
Erelenga says: It would be an own meeting about a contract.
Tolian sits down again
>Tolian Tyndale takes a seat by Small Potted Plant.
Andoryn says: We come to teach, not to make money...
Erelenga pokes the lower lid of his eye towards Andoryn...
Andoryn winks to Erelenga
Torias nods
Tuip points at Rarodele "Your question, Sir. This one will be the last since we still have one more presentation to hear."
>Erelenga Karal greets Rarodele Sarodele.
Rarodele says: me stands up
Zakrei looks a bit disappointed and lowers his paw
Xemmas says: Sir, there is a space by your guildmate Leraider, you are blocking my view of the presentation...
Erelenga says: I will be available for more questions later...
Beckford grins "Shh... !"
Rarodele says: I would like to ask what sort of education you would expect your students to have before entering a university
>Giroum Duphra claps for Erelenga Karal.
Rarodele says: such as you have describe
Rarodele says: *described
>Rarodele Sarodele stands up.
Erelenga says: As I already mentioned...
>Arkonin Drapthal stands up.
Erelenga says: Reading, writing and calculating are a prerequisite.
Eurac yawns.
Andoryn says: Any or none. The courses are worked to help anyone.
Tuip says: Very well...
>Datal Allavium stands up.
Rarodele says: There appears to be somewhat of a contradiction in those statements
Llyn looks confused.
Erelenga says: Well, a university is a higher educational organisation...
Andoryn says: There are courses in reading, writing and calculation aswell.
Datal says: while listening to those questions i had an idea: what about providing the possibility for a limited amount of extremely skilled students to have access for free to the courses?
Ayvlis exhales air
Rarodele says: So even the "illiterate" would be welcome
Erelenga says: Excuse me, sir ... feel welcome to talk about this together with our presidior too.
Andoryn says: Sir Datal. Skilled students don't need free courses. They can advance by themselves.
Erelenga says: Uhm, one moment, Andoryn...
Erelenga says: I believe I understand...
Beckford yawns loudly
Rarodele says: A student expects to be educated leaving university not entering
Erelenga says: Sir, you seem to mention a kind of granted sholarship?
>Ayvlis Azshara nods in agreement.
Datal says: no
Erelenga says: No... [ Dictionary issues. ]
Erelenga says: Sir, you seem to mention a kind of grant [ fellowship / studentship ]?
Eurac says: Come on, this has turned into a business meeting not a proposal to improve the oppourtunities for the citizens.
Andoryn says: This may be a thing to talk about later, maybe. Details are always hard.
Datal says: [no i mean people who are quite good and that with being teached could be better]
Erelenga nods.
Erelenga says: Indeed...
Datal says: ok i'll wait for later then
Erelenga says: We are open for suggestions.
Tuip says: Very well. Thank you, Knowledge Seekers. You may step down now.
Rarodele says: Thank you,
Eurac sighs
Erelenga says: Funding was not our most important concern yet.
>Firiban Frenocco claps for Erelenga Karal.
Mordaan applauds
>Andoryn Thaakor makes a bow to Tuip Naltayroth.
>Datal Allavium takes a seat.
>Giroum Duphra claps for Andoryn Thaakor.
>Ayvlis Azshara claps.
>Datal Allavium stands up.
>Erelenga Karal greets everyone.
>Giroum Duphra claps for Erelenga Karal.
>Datal Allavium takes a seat.

[Sorry, wasn't there all the time for the Tyndale Trading Company..maybe someone else can post those logs]

[Edits to the logfiles: Removed Guildchat/tells, removed some OOC comments, removed a lot of emotes like /sit (sorry, if I deleteted some important for RP)]

Tuip leaves the OSP party with a big smile on his face. The new members of the Octarchal Society for Progress certainly deserve it.

[Congratulations to the Explorers and the Red Crystal Organization for making it and many thanks to all the guilds and organizations that applied. We hope to do this again so don't give up. We will be contacting the winners in the coming days to set up their projects. Screenies of the party coming soon...]
