Title: Knowledge Seekers Guild
Post by: Randalp on December 09, 2004, 01:22:20 pm
The Knowledge Seekers Guild is a newly found guild. And already counts 24 members and is still growing.

We are a good aligned guild that believes (and hopes) that the wisdom fills the world. We, as teachers, have the duty to help this dream become true.

We don\'t worship in any God (Laanx is always dropping people, Talad... never saw him, and for Historical reasons), so we believe and worship the mugs\' magic.

http://knowledge-seekers.alphasys.nl/smf/

Anyone is welcome to view and regsiter to our forum.

There are very few teaching guild in PS.
If you want to join talk to me and I\'ll be glad to invite you :)
Now we got 26 :P

The requirements to join are:
1. not be a noob
2. be familiar with the game and know about almost or everything about it
3. can\'t remember more

In extreme cases we invite noobs, \'coz they seem to have potential to be a great teacher

Christ where the hell did you guys just suddenly come from..This is like a FAQ team, and god do we need that.

So do I dare ask if your \"Good Alignment\" goes any farther then just teaching? Does the teacher own a weapon?

Good luck to your guild. It looks interesting and you have quite a lot of members. Your goal is a worthy one, you can count on my support.

Our Item of choice is the mug. Other items are purely ceremonial

Lol we were building the guild website and forum :)

Ty for your support all :)
We started in 13/11/2004
We train animals, teach ppl, research stuff and maybe we\'ll produce them :)
And yes you are free to own weapons, as long as they won\'t cause trouble. If another guild or member attacks us we got plenty of allies who will help and we too can defend our selves.

Hmm... Sounds promising, I\'ve checked out the website... I might give it a try!

Ok so who are you recruiting, total newbies? If so how are they suppose to teach anyone anything? Explain to us how the system works of creating these teachers.

You don\'t need anyone to teach you the ways of the world. ;)
Title:
Post by: Lordbug on December 10, 2004, 12:08:16 pm
No, we only recruit non noobs.

Only in extreme cases we recruit noobs, and only if we think they are going to be good teachers, or if they read all about the game and are quite familiar with it even though it is the 3rt or 4th time they play.
But we do have some noobs in the guild, but they know almost everything about the game.

I think I said everything...
Title:
Post by: Annah on December 10, 2004, 12:29:34 pm
Actually, no. You didn\'t clear up anything. People, stop making the confuse between \"noobs\" and \"newbies (newbs)\". Noobs are idiots that don\'t even know where they are, practically the garbage of any community. Newbs are new people, willing to learn, people that will turn out to be someone, or not.
For me, you are a newb Lordbug. But not a noob. I think I made it simple to be understood ;)
Ah, and didn\'t you start a guild some time ago? :)

The Feather is mightier than the sword

Depth you\'re really pathetic, you believe everthing that isn\'t Rebirth is Evil. I feel pity for you. And don\'t ?ou think it will do more than a \"FAQ team\", teaching skills and so on.

Do you have to go on about everything.

I will support you, though I don\'t join for i\'m unsure if I\'m a n00b or not.

It was just a question settle down. Don\'t act like you supporting me is any benefit to my guild because I don\'t see you taking any action worth recognizing!

OOC:
Merdarion if you want to turn this into a flame war everytime I speak bring it on. You don\'t understand the meaning of role and it is quite sad really. My character is this way and has been since the beginning and nothing you suddenly have to say will change that so settle down or bugger off?

DepthBlade, that post had no relevance to this topic at all. Your arrogance is overwhelming, and you\'re not even aware of it!:)
Anyway, Lordbug this is a great guild, and I might come around to joining it sometime soon... There are way more newbs in this community than there are umm... \"oldies\", and I think we all need to team up and \"attack\" those questions in an aggressive manner!
Title:

I already saw you existed but forgot to post here . sorry.

I think your guild seems to be interessant. I like the idea. Our two guilds aren\'t really different. You look for knowledge we look for arts. But in fact this is not really different. If you need help, don\'t forget to ask...

I hope you\'re still going well

Bjorn don\'t speak! That was directed towards him and him only for constantly attacking me for no reason with no motive. Did it look like I was trying to direct it towards this guild? I wouldn\'t have said something like this if he wasn\'t nipping at my heels so shut up..

See I asked a simple question and you guys turn it into this? My arrogance righttttttttttttttttt.

Anyways

I am sure the \"Evil\" guilds won\'t bug you guys if your just teaching :P but I have been wrong in the past.

As is clearly obvious, Depth wasn\'t the one who started it in this thread. He asked a perfectly on-topic question, and got flamed with an OT post by Merdarion for it.

Depth, defending yourself is perfectly fine, but if he continues to do this, please just reply to him through PMs, and PM Aendar to delete his posts from the threads that he is chasing you in if you feel they are OT.

And if anyone has more to speak about this OT topic, use PMs from now on. Please post only on-topic here after this.

Good iniative Lordbug and it looks promising. Only thing that bothers me is that you don\'t seem to be very careful in your recruiting. Please correct me if I\'m wrong.

Quote
2. be familiar with the game and know about almost or everything about it

How do you find out if people really know as much as you would like them to? Is there a preparatory stage where you check out new recruits and throw them out if they prove unworthy or how  do you do it? Cause I noticed you recruited several members in only a day, which is quite fast, and also I didn\'t recognize any of the names of your members, (except for yours) not that I know every non-newb but I know a few. ;)

I have my motives. But don\'t get off topic.

I think the rule

2. be familiar with the game and know about almost or everything about it

should be a differed.

maybe you should have a pre-initiation part where you learn more indepth information, which is often overseen.

a good role can just be as pathetic as a bad one, but, ..

I quite like the idea of a teaching guild, can make the learn phase shorter and the play phase longer. A FAQ is a good thing, but sometmes it just doesn\'t fit everywhwere.
Title:
Post by: Lordbug on December 11, 2004, 04:23:32 am
Ty Annah for explaining that to me. (replace everything with the word noobs for newbs)

In MB we are more like a FAQ, but in CB (and the next versions) we\'ll be a FAQ team too, but our purpose is teaching skills, train animals, research stuff and maybe pruduce them.

Quote

I know every member I got in the guild and I know some of them in RL too. They log on quite frequentely.

As for the recruit, it isn\'t exigent(?), \'coz we aren\'t a FAQ team, but that\'s what we do for now :P, \'coz in CB we are going to teach skills (I think I\'m repeating myself).

This scares me. Shouldn\'t \"teachers\" have at least passable grammar? I can\'t condone you, I\'m sorry. A teacher must be worthy, if you give proof of your worth, then perhaps I\'ll reconsider my stance, but in the meantime, you\'ve got several things going against you.

Ah, so this is going to be for peasants, eh? I mean, no nobleman is gonna wanna learn alchemy from someone who speaks like, \"An\' den ve poot dees big yellow leaf een da vater.\" And if you ever think about trying and teach magic, save me some time and set yourself on fire.

Currently we charge nothing for info, in the future we will see what and if we will charge. For example knowledge of certain guilds might be sold to other guilds, but we have yet to come up with plan for this sort of thing. However we will never disclose any information that might spoil the game for others (example quests)

Nope, sorry. You flunked. Utterly. :D

No, that was a pretty good answer, but my point is, you\'re still very limited in knowledge, and no one is gonna want to know \"who you\'ve seen\", or \"what you noticed\", they\'re gonna want cold, hard facts, of which you have very little as yet.

Kahlil Gibran

\"Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.\"

Yeah, you do that. Or Monketh, he\'s pretty much as strict as me. Personally, I melt like the wicked witch from Wizard of Oz if I make a spelling mistake... it\'s not a pretty sight.

As for the thing about the Blitzers, I was just proving to Randalp that there\'s a lot that he doesn\'t know, so his usages as a \"purveyor of knowledge\" may be limited to those who\'ve been around longer than he has.

@Randalp: Nice quotes, were they s\'posed to be pertinent to the conversation? Or just general guild-motto-ey stuff?

*makes a draft

Once upon a time an island called Hydlaa surrounded by the great sea of glue.
The world was even more magic than the other fantasy games... we didn\'t die, there were floating barrels and xtals, weapons that didn\'t hurn a single fly... well the perfect world...
We couldn\'t crouch or open doors, but everyone was friendly and we all lived happely. We jumped the great walls to walk arrount outside of the city and go for a swim in the sea of glue... great times
When a thing called Crystal Blue came and everyone got exited with it and so they waited for more than a year (glad that ppl didn\'t die) and CB (what is CB?) is where you live now (CB = Crystal Blue = The version after MB). Noone knows how it happened (What is MB?) but a large quantity of land was added sudently to the small island (MB is the 2nd version of PS) and now it has lots of places to go! (Can we crouch now?)

needs more work, don\'t you think?

EDIT: YAY I\'m a Conqueror!!! :D

There you go! A little bit of the dark history of the lands that were known as Atomic Blue.

Entering this land was in itself a major feat of bravery and perseverance at times, with many a long night spent gazing at the static portal to the promised land.

If worthy of the task and you successfully made the perilous journey, it was a dark place where the light of the great azure crystal barely shone. The lands stretched only as far as the eye could see, with no promise of adventure or hidden treasure to lure the curious explorer.

The warm cozy interiors of buildings we now all see throughout the land were cold and barren, all were forbidden entry with stout doors firmly barring our way.

Perhaps worst of all was the integrity of reality in that realm, which hung by a thread. Solid looking floors often melting into nothingness as once more you fell to your doom and the grey world of the undercity.

Despite it\'s flaws though it was a land of great promise, togetherness and friendship, inspiring many to greater deeds and has delivered us finally here, to the promise of Crystal Blue and the continued future of Planeshift.

... ... ... ...
It looks cool... I mean the screenshot... The history makes me think that AB was very cold and dark... I\'m even cold now... oh, wait, that\'s because it\'s winter and I only have T-shirt and trousers on... but still...

now I want to see more pics :P I usually don\'t like History... but PS History is better than RL I think...

I\'ll always have the earlier versions of PS in my comp... I have my MB in a .rar file to save disk space, when the next version is out I\'ll do the same to CB... lol dunno why I am keeping them...

Hey, don\'t forget to create a K-S member profile (http://tavern.blueglyph.net/modules.php?name=Characters&guild=96&op=editChar&id=-1) at Kada-El\'s Tavern (http://thebbb.tk/)

That \"members (http://tavern.blueglyph.net/modules.php?name=Characters&guild=96)\" link has to work, ya know ? :)

BTW Lordbug, did you ask Kada how to put the Guild symbol/shield there ?

If, for some reason, the domain name http://www.Knowledge-Seekers.tk doesn\'t work, you may use the alternate URL to access our web page: http://Knowledge-Seekers.cjb.net/

The reason for this post is that, yesterday, the .tk had a glitch and no access was possible through that URL.
Title:
Post by: Kosh_Dukai on June 28, 2005, 02:40:31 pm
Ok, changed the http://knowledge-seekers.cjb.net/ to a more usefull Knowledge Seekers related links page :)
Title:
Post by: CadRipper on June 28, 2005, 04:05:19 pm
I took the liberty to update the link on the tavern  ;)
You have quite a bunch of members registered there, by the way!

There\'s something weird though, when I click on the shield, either with IE or FireFox, I get this:

Everytime it adds an extra line at the top (you can see 3 already). I suppose that\'s not the link you want there anyway, but maybe it\'s possible to add some code to \"pop out\" of the frame of this nasty redirector - if that\'s the case, I haven\'t really checked.

Don\'t !!!! Please don\'t ! This http://knowledge-seekers.cjb.net/ is just an alternate way to find the Knowledge Seekers related links of interest so that, if there\'s a problem with the official http://www.Knowledge-Seekers.tk/, members can still find the web page and forums :)

Also, we\'re thinking of making a backup mirror of the site through this alt url... on the same line of \"just in case\" thinking :)

Thank you Cad, for pointing that problem. I thought I tested it :(

Oh I see... Done and done, the link is pointing again at that little island, lost somewhere in the Pacific. Inhabitants are wondering why a lot of people are suddenly looking at them again.

\"It must be some sort of big experiment, I reckon all this is beyond us\", says the first one, looking helplessly at the sky.
The second nods.
\"I felt the increase in microwatt too. We\'ll have a hot winter again.\"

Alright, they are very sensible people, let\'s leave them to their little problems... ;)

We had a problem with .tk, because they tend to keep the referenced site in a frame, it was messing up the way most forums use cookies to keep track of the session. Maybe it\'s the same problem here, with cjb.net adding a little ad banner at the top. Nilaya found the problem and its solution in our case, I simply added this line of Javascript code, and made sure it was executed at the loading of the page:

if (top.location != self.location) { top.location = self.location; }

Oh, I see ! Thank you :)

Anyway, it really didn\'t make any sense the link pointing to itself (what was I thinking :P) but that piece of code is a good tip to keep in mind !

Thxs Cad :)

PS: Erm... I think Tokelau island got used to be pointed at, virtually at least ;)

Just a quick heads-up on a public KS resource/compilation of some tips, tricks, infos and usefull guides to ease the Planeshift playing experience:

Knowledge Seekers Guild Forum (http://ksguild.link-host.com/forums/index.php) -> Guides (http://ksguild.link-host.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=9)

...btw, the new Knowledge Seekers Guild Portal (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y246/brugmmar/portal3.jpg) will soon be up and running :D
(only then the current/old Homepage (http://www.freewebs.com/knowledge-seekers/KS_Home.html) will be redirected to it).

Link-Host, our previous host told me they were changing servers, they decided to end without telling me anything. I knew it from another Link-Host user. The current host is more stable and I have more frequent contact with him... plus he\'s a friend ^^ Thanks Induane =D

Anyway, sorry to everyone specially the Knowledge Seekers.

Sorry to post this so late.  Today the KS site will probabily be down for a few hours as I convert to a static dns in the wake of my connection upgrade.  Don\'t worry though, as soon as the dns gets caught up all should be fine.

if you still really need to get on though you can use this address temporarily:

Anyways in that case we will be scheduling a meeting soon to announce some restructuring to fix some of the things we overlooked originaly structure wise.  For instance we will probably have a guild that is for council members only, however we will make sure that the characters in that guild are alts so that our characters can be part of the guilds that actually do things :D We'll rp that those people are either our representatives, or something similar - to be determined. as they say!

The Knowledge Seekers are still here and active in game, however not all of our members are active on the forums here. We have had ten members log on in the month of April. We are not inactive just not all active at once, So keep looking for us, we are still here!  :detective:

It looks like Knowledge seekers need to relocate the University (website), at least temporarly. We are still going after nearly 4 years, the 13th november will be our 4th birthday which we will hopefully be able to celebrate in either refurbished / new premises.

We hope to start our forth year by relaunching the university

Our 4th anniversary is approaching. It would be thursday, 13th November. But I could imagine that you may prefer to celebrate a little later.

Unfortunately, we never heard from Arka again... -- Tuathanach is the current acting presidior.

Members: Let's meet in IRC before, or exchange PMs here. Let us come together around the weekend if possible.

I have a little surprise for you. Don't miss it. ;)

I should have a party for my guild's anniversary sometime, but it'd be a dead party since there's only a few active members xD Anyways, congrats KS. I remember when you guys had a lot larger of a presence in game. I sometimes RPed with several members, I think.

We were a little bunch of people: Andoryn, Tuathanach, Xarthen, Rell and Erelenga as current members, Jaycc as former member, Aerianna just with greetings from a distance. We invited Roled as new student. Farren visited as friend and protector, and there was a nice guy named Nifft. Solita brought some delicious food. Irunor even offered us a great present... another one of the forgotten Mugs of Power. Of course we had pies too. But there were not really games to play ... well, it was no kids birthday. Especially not anymore when a sudden event interrupted... There are some restless souls who finally should find a rest. Noone likes a party turned into a funeral. Well ... at least this gave Erelenga a chance to meet even another candidate for a student afterwards: We hope to see Gowdii again soon.

Dear Friends and Guild members~
I remain honored to have passed my initial exams and begin my studies with the Knowledge Seekers. The only problem is, ever since the upgrade, Roled can no longer enter Yliakum. The dreaded blue screen of death arises each time. Roled has sought the advice of those who know more than he, but alas none yet can help him find his way back to the city and his friends.

Please send the energy of Xiosia my way so that Roled may sometime soon re- enter the world which has become, for him, such a magnetic and mezmerising environment. I miss me friends.
Yours
the terribly lost

Blue Screen of Death?

The graphic driver killing Windows with a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL stop fault? - Fortunately I have that only sometimes. One driver version may be more stable than another. I wonder if shader effects are the cause.

Or did I misunderstand?

Might help to know which hardware you have. But this thread should not become a hardware hotline. Try to report the bug as verbosely as neccessary in the bugtracker:  http://hydlaaplaza.com/flyspray/ (http://hydlaaplaza.com/flyspray/)

Great! The Stonehead is one of Roled's favorite places and he is close friends with the Lady Elady there, and the Lady Illysia. Elady makes the best pies in the land! And the DoX are good friends of course since Elady is a DoX... Plus Sir Jaycol recovered there when he was injured, andElady and Roled and many others cared for him, including Sir Mage Rarodele of the KJ, who are also close friends of Roled's. As soon as it is set Roled will send some pm invites. Thanks you!

Yes indeed the Knowledge Seekers are alive and well and growing- and welcoming new members!

We have added 4 full time students- Guild members, and several part time students in the past month. As Proctor, my job is to talk about the KS with folks and if their characters are interested in scholarship study, and interested in learning, we offer full time courses in magic, ylianite studies, geology and mining, flora and fauna, anthropology, blades and weaponry, herbalism, religious history studies and general studies in story telling (role playing) and more. Some of our Deans and Professors also offer tutoring for part time students in various advanced fields like advanced Mages in several of the Ways, and advanced sword skills.

And of course KS is still collecting manuscripts for Jayose's library annex. We have collected over a hundred player written works, and reviewed them. Soon TM with dev's help we will add them to the Libram!

If you see me or any of us KS, please stop and chat or send me a pm here in the PS forum. Or you can check out the KS website at http://knowledge-seekers.alphasys.nl/smf/index.php

Thanks for the opportunity to bring the KS to light in our current work and study!

/me nods and can't add much to Roled's explanations...

You are correct, proctor... And I should mention that a carreer in the Knowledge Seekers University of Yliakum will be a possibly quite fast one - provided that the student will take the tasks serious and will put a constant level of eagerness and efforts into their work. There are still several vacancies. And we are already looking for a new building, because the Hydlaa Tower of Knowledge is getting small for us.

Continuing the great work of presidiors like Lordbug Dosaki and Arka Garam, we will come to teach today and tomorrow as well as we used to yesterday. Knowledge is the advantage of Yliakum defeating the dangers from the Stone Labyrinths, this is our way to fulfill the Octarchal Decree.

P.S.
I reached Necromancer lever 99!
Oh, And don't try to describe us with wave functions, Just sayin'.
LOLOLOL, Wave - Partical duality is awesome.
Like photons (The Quantum of light and the electromagnetic force.)... Act like waves (Destructive interference... When you combine two beams and the beams destroy each other.) But also act like particals (The photoelectric effect... Where a photon hits an electron and "Lends" it's energy to the photon; Releasing it from the atom. [Only if the photon energy exceeds the work function of the Electron.]...
This thread is from 2004.
BTW, and the last post in it (Except this post) Was in November 15, 2011 by LigH. So that gives me Tons of XP in necromancing!

Just because they both have to do with quantum physics doesn't mean that mentioning wave-particle duality is a joke "about the cat."

By the way, have you guys heard Schrodinger's joke?  They say it's both hilarious and not funny at all, but you only find out which when someone tells it to you.

As a bait, Kodron leaves a couple wooden crates filled to the brim with platinum and various gems in the middle of the thread. Kra sits a good distance away from the bait, watching the thread closely...

Ah, we had a visitor, wonderful...

I hope the new campus in Amdeneir and the public Hall of Learning are already famous; just to the left, looking towards the pterosaur and the forge. Application forms and a copy of our Prospectus are available there (http://knowledge-seekers.alphasys.nl/smf/index.php). A next lecture (http://207.244.96.64/PlaneShift/smf/index.php?topic=43245.0) may be a good reason to meet in Amdeneir.
