Q: when will CB come out?
A: As it has been said before so many times ?Not even the devs know or have set up a release date?? so just wait like the rest of us?

Q: How large will CB be when it is released?

Q: How often will CB be updated?
A: It will be updated very frequently through the updater program, not like the MB version where you currently have had to wait over a year for a new version. Should be at least one update per week, if not more.  I would say we should have sub-weekly updates initially while we are hitting lots of bugs, but new feature releases will probably be more like every month or two once the bug patches slow down.

Q: How big is CB?
A: Very big compared to the previous versions.  I think the download will be about 200MB.

Q: Is there still lag?
A: The NR (new renderer) has reduced the amount of graphical lag which people have been complaining about, a lot. But yes, it might run slow, but not as slow as before.#Really depends on hardware. We need to develop a better database of hardware vs performance.#
We have also added adaptive far plane clipping now, so the client seeks to keep FPS within a certain range you specify.  It doesn\'t look ideal but for people with older hardware, it\'s probably way ahead of lag.:-)

Q: Will some people still need to wait 1+ hours to start the game?
A: Hopefully that should have been fixed. It was caused by some lightmapping that wasn\'t accepted by some computers, so it thought it had to remake it all #Plus there was some really bad memory management in windows that caused a really slow load time.  Is better now.#

A: Yes, you can have up to 4 different characters in one account.

Q: What new areas will be included?
A: From what we can tell, Hydlaa will be expanded, there will be Ojaveda (home of the Enkidukai), and the Death Realm.

Q: How will I be able to change races when a new one is added in an update?
A: You will have to delete the character and recreate it, hoping no one gets it in the middle.

Q: Will my crystals be converted to tria (currency used in CB and beyond)?
A: Yes, but we are not 100% sure this will happen due to the recent cheating and player complaints. There is a migration script already prepared.

Q: Will there be a mac version?
A: Yes, dfryer has been working hard on this and it should be available when CB comes out, or shortly after.

A: Probably, the whole char creation has been remade. We haven\'t seen the message this far
Now on the connect screen, you will see a list of available servers and a ping-time shown next to each one.  If the ping doesn\'t work then it says \"fail\".  If you get this, you cannot connect, so the ambiguity where it looks like you are connecting and says \"linkdead\" but really you were never connected should be much more clear.

A: The models in Molecular Blue are of a different format then the ones in CB.

The game engine (Crystal Space) Had a change in model types (From SPR to Cal3D) which there was no converter for, So the models had to be made from scratch.
Some (Most) were able to be recreated, While there were a few (Female Dermorians for example) were left out to save time on the next Tech-Release (Crystal Blue) But they also added some new models so that we could stay happy.

More models (Along with more features) will be added in future updates and releases.

This is only half accurate. The old models which were in use by MB (spr3d) are still available in Crystal Space. PS decided to go to the new sprcal3d models because they offer a lot more animation possibilities (with a lot less memory usage). Using the old models together with the new sprcal3d models is not a real option because the animation system is really based on the new system now.

Also in the future the new renderer system that is in CS will allow us to improve graphics even more.

There is no such list. Not even for us. We have an idea about what must be done but during testing we discover problems which causes that list to grow because we suddenly see the need to implement additional stuff to make things usable. This is the main reason why things are going slow now. Lots of unforeseen things we need to do.

Q : if someone tell you a story could the dev write it into the game. For example, a NPC could say that once upon a time... Is it possible ? and is it possible to create a scenario with these one ?


I\'m thinking about a story I\'ve written for PS and my character and in fact it could be a good scenario when I think about it : this is a Dead Dermorians\' kingdom which has been destructed by an orcs attack something like 15-20 years ago. This place is called Yannaeh and there are some dead-alive elfes (kind of Zombies). J.R. Tolkien speaks about elfes that could dye by sadness... that\'s what gives me this idea...the zombies are old Dermorians that cry for their lost one and turn into zombies and there could be not too hard to create the monsters... just takes the Dermorians and turn them into zombies - not dead but not alive. For the kingdom try to use some yliakum textures and add a jungle textures... the kingdom is inhabited since a long time and has been destroyed by the orcs dont forget... for the story i wrote, It\'s in french but i could try to translate this one... As devs wants...

PS: My character believes he is the only one that survives from the slain. He has been saved by a strange Orc... During the Slain he was between 0 and 5 years (He is 20 yet)... I know it could be a problem to write something in the game that remains a character that is already in the game. You can\'t take every background in PS.... but when I wrote this story I didn\'t thought it could be a good scenario and I hope it could helps you.

If a well-written story is compatible with PS, it is possible that somehow it could be included (or you could tell it yourself, acting as a bard).

A couple problems with your story - everyone in Yliakum would wonder what an \"orc\" is (I don\'t think they exist in this world).  Dermorians, while \"elves\", are not the same kind of immortal creatures that live in Tolkien\'s world.  Also, I\'m not sure how the undead factor into planeshift\'s world.

Posts on creating areas or creatures or historical events should probably be in the appropriate thread (use the \"search\" button or read the sticky threads) in the wish list.

Ok but I think there will be a creature like orc in the CB release or later...just need to change his name in my story and there are no zombies in Tolkien\'s World and less elfes that turn into zombies lol it comes from my imagination

PS doesn\'t require much network bandwidth. It should work fine with 56k modem. Downloading PS for the first time will be another matter though :-)

All characters will be deleted, and you will have to recreate them. There has been some talking about reserving your old character name for your new characters, however noone really has confirmed this bit.

When creating, you\'ll be entitled to insert a first name (not a nickname) and a last name (not a nickname either). So you\'re not Shadowman Assassin, because that is not a name. That\'s stupidity. You\'re... John Smith, or whatever your imagination can come up with. The game will also have name generators, if you find you can\'t create a proper name for your character, or just to give you some inspiration as to what you could call yourself.

But when someone doesn\'t want a last name... or want something that represent not a name but a designation ? like Charles LeBon, Charle Magne, gronk PrinceOfPersia or daemia QueenOfAvalon ? It seems to be a problem for you...

and is there really a program that send MB account to CB account ? Because I\'ve see it and post my my nickname and password and even if it was on the sourceforge server I hope I dont do a dumb thing...

you must choice a first and last name, QueenOfAvalon is not a name but a distinction. You can choice something like John Fken if you want but not Lord Fken, because Lord Fken is not a name but a distinction

No.  Firstly because just that, plenty of keyboards don\'t support them.
Secondly because you end up with persons who use all special characters in their names.

It will be on the website once CB is out. If you see something asking for your username and password, it is probably a scam (besides the merchant page).

Answer to Adeli: Everything the testers do will be reset before the public release. We won\'t be keeping our characters, items, etc. Everything will be fair. :)


fken: Precise answers cannot be given at this time (NDA). But I can say:

A 1. Definitely larger than MB version.
A 2. BIG. :)

In fact I already install CB from cvs under linux mdk 10.0 and after the installation the game needed more than 1Gb. I don\'t know what the NDA deals with this information and I ask that to the dev not the one that can\'t answer...

It takes 1GB for a good reason... you probobly compiled it in debug version.
It will take muuuuch less space in the release version. Even with art and other stuff.

A: Yes, all maps are being tested.  But even so, the maps are pretty large and will take a long time to explore them all.

Koron: i dont think the testers will have big advantages. Sure, they will know where everything is located... but then agin they all are GMs in MB. GMs must know eveveything! Its just like you would come to play a new game with some old players in it.

Ya, this only means that they will get board with exploring a month or 2 before everyone else, & get annoyed when everyone says \"WoW!\" all @ once.  :D

but still I envy them, it is a very busy time for Dev\'s I would think, two bad the bugs do not line up to be squashed... they sort of creep around & eat away time...

I seam to remember this funny quote from somewhere:
\"Hate the Bugs not the Game.\"

Adding to Zeraphs post, what is the combad system gona be like? I have read the website many times over the past years, but it doesnt realy help.

Of course the combat will be real time! Can you imagine a mmorpg with turn based combat?
And im sure it will be in CB.
I think combat stuff is NDA, so no one can tell how its going to be.
But basicly it looks like any other mmorpg combat system.

If I recall, dfryer and maybe others are working on a mac version that should be available at or right after the windows and linux release. If, in the unlikely event you are selected to test, you are using a mac, you will have to get a compiled version from (one of) the mac dev(s) or compile it yourself.

It shouldn\'t be, because isn\'t the combat system or for that matter any system @ the mechanical level part of the source code? & all CB source code is under GPL right? So I do not think that Combat System is art, but describing how character\'s combat Animations look is art under NDA.

so talking about the stuff that the code douse like \"if you press [A] then it plays Attack Animation & sends info to server then server calculates damage & repeats till you press or walk away...\" etc.
(this is just an example)
but if you said \"you press [A] then the dwarf swings his sword in a uppercut fashion repetitively until you run away sometimes limping from a wound.\" then that would be describing art.

I asked if it was turned based because that is sort of how the website describes it, however I think that info is so out of date there really is not much there. I would think it could be possible to have a turned based system in a mmorpg by using a system similar with the game \"Quest 64\" if you have heard of it. it was for the Nintendo 64 were there was a turn system were you move & then choose attack & stuff, it was sort of like a board game but anyway, I think real-time is much nicer & simple... :]

I don\'t think it\'d be real-time because if the game is playable with dialup I doubt there\'s real-time. Unless they figured out a way to make it playable with dialup.

Do you mean a real-time like everytime I press a button it attacks or like FF11 realtime with a set tempo to fight until you do something else?

Why does everyone keep saying Planeshift needs to be Dialup accessible? How many people can actually play planeshift with dial-up if they cannot download it with dial-up?

Just the message has been removed. Fall damage is still there.
You will have to be careful in PS now :-)

Although i feel this quiestion has already been asked I dont remeber readin it in the posts,


Maybe instead of asking about lag and what not we make a form and we have perhaps testers an people tell us computer information such as RAM and what kind.

cause for me I have a 256MB of RAM on my computer and my game lags at certian things and will somtimes stop completly at some points althoughts it is not that bad it gets rather old.

Question=
Do you think I will lag less on the game because I love PS and I know its free but for me its technically not because I have to buy RAM to make it work better for me which is a good 60 bucks for a 256MB stick :( do you think i will lag the same in the new PS or will it lag less *crosses fingers*.

Im not directing anyone but maybe we can move this post around to a different place and put all computer capabilities under this post? something like this for CB although it may not help alot of us it could be useful to newbs and what not.

Because if there isn\'t one, what the hell are we doing in MB by picking up xtals? Just training? I\'ve been working to get the xtals and I would be disapointed if my work was in vain...

I would like to participate in the action if you know what I mean... for example the game Oni (if you know it) well it\'s an Anime type game, where we fight and use weapons, it\'s passed in the future... er... forget the future for a moment... well there when we fight with the hands we click the mouse bottons to make her attack.
Targeting (right click the person/monster) and then watch the char attacking... er... sorry but that\'s just stupid
I would like to attack things like a barril or a NPC or even a chair! things that are part of the cenary even if it doesn\'t effect nothing! Just to get anger off or something... I think you know what I mean with all this

Short Version: ppl cheated making it unfair for other ppl if they get to keep the money they got from it. no crystals in CB, CB testers will not have an advantage due to server wipe...

Long Version:
well, there aren\'t going to be crystals as money in CB however, if there is going to be able to keep your Crystals from MB then it\'s going to be converted to the new money system (tria.) they have been thinking of not transferring crystals because a while ago a particulate person cheated in a way that he could login as anyone & logged in as a Dev & spawned weapons & Crystals & became very very rich, there is measures to prevent this sort of logging in in CB however the person may have created other accounts & will transfer his crystals obtained by cheating & others have been exploiting bugs & mods to get crystals giving them an unfair advantage over the hard work of others. however imo, we should transfer crystals to CB because lots of ppl spent hours upon hours collecting them & it would be a shame to take all the hard work away....

1) It is still unsure if Crystals will be converted (since there were some cases of massive cheating). A conversion is probably not needed (it will be fun to aquire the money you would get outerwise).

2) Not in the initial Release of CB (will probably be added later - dont ask for a time though)

3) Attack as it looks will be \"Click and Watch\" at least for a start (could be that this changes too in future - we dont know anyways and its far to early for the devs to be able to tell i think).

Please read the newspage and do some searches on the forum before you post such questions (because most of them have been answered AT LEAST once - if you dont find an answer then post your question). Thank you in advance.

Some monsters will be more aggressive towards magic users, and some might be very aggressive towards dwarves while they don\'t care about the Dermorians, and such. But to begin with, it\'s all about who is the biggest threat to the monster, as in who deals most damage, and who is closest to the moster, and so on. For example, why would the monster run after an archer, when there\'s a juicy, fat warrior just next to it? :)

Then again, if the archer is annoying enough, he\'ll be turned into mashed potatoes.

Art, rules, and everything else included in the PS License is under the NDA, and noone who is testing CB can tell about that stuff. That even goes for what you can say to an NPC.

As for all the things you can find in the CVS... Well, go ahead and ask.

Phase two should be the last test before it\'s released.


And finally why are the dev proceding like that ?

There\'s no point in releasing a bugged game to 10000 people and receiving 5000 spam reports saying the server is down every time they log in, and another 5000 spam reports saying they can\'t log in but don\'t know why. Then there\'ll be 8000 more reports saying character creation doesn\'t work, and 6000 asking why they can\'t log in. After that, 2000 new posts will be telling this game is stupid, and the last 4000 will be asking when the problem is fixed.

There are lots of stupid people out there, that\'s why they don\'t get to test right away. :)


Will I have a chance to reconnect without restarting the game?

Currently, no. Maybe in the future, but not as it is right now.

A: The world is broken up into sectors, with loading screens in between. The reason for this is that the devs would rather have one \'long\' loading time for each piece of the world, as opposed to lots of little loading bits which would cause the game to lag and be unresponsive.

It\'s v0.3x/Crystal Blue ...  alpha is supposed to be a generally feature complete product that is largely untested, whereas beta is a generally complete product that has not been thoroughly tested.  Though CB is  a huge leap, I don\'t think it necessarily qualifies for either... that\'s why we have the nifty release names =].

Farplace clipping/distance culling/not-rendering-stuff-that-is-far-away is implemented now as well.  There is both a static distance setting and a somewhat working adaptive mode that changes the draw distance as needed.  Just need to add some dynamic fog at the cull point so it don\'t look so funny =P.

Eventually, you will be able to build a place for your guild, if your guild has the resources for it (renting a place is much cheaper than building a whole new house).

First and last name has to be unique. If you wish to play as if you\'re related to someone, ask a lvl 4 GM to change your last name to the same thing. This is to prevent people from saying they\'re related to some famous person or whatever you might use the names for. :)

At the moment, you can\'t C who is, and who isn\'t. I think that can be usefull, since GM\'s can \"read Guild chat\", \"warp to players\", \"Kick nerving ppl\" and so on. If you can C there is a GM online then ppl behave better, cause they know they can be banned. From the other side: catching cheaters will also be more difficult, cause they C a GM is there, and will wait till that person goes away.

Baking is used in the CVS, where a chest does a great job of being an oven. That\'s all I can tell you. However, when CB is ready to be released, I\'m sure there will be some kind of crafting. I can\'t tell you what, though. NDA stuff. :)

SOME QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS,

What are the restrictions on killing players? Really I hate if there will be like only special areas where you can not fight exept for the Newb Place.

Restrictions on pick poketing, is this a joke?! Well, I do hope it is, cuz it is plain absurd to not be able to pick poket everywhere, exept the Newb Place.

Also, I have noticed that in the forest path, the trees are just drawn on, how come?

Not every character will be oriented towards battle. This makes it entirely unfair to someone RPing as a merchant. If you need a game where you run around slaughtering people, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Uhh, maybe because everybody and their dog would be a thief and not work for any items/money lest it be stolen? Some people would like to RP and quest without looking behind their backs to see if someone is trying to pick pocket their latest asset.

A guild war works pretty much the same way as a duel, except it includes more people rather than only one individual. And there -can- be PvP zones, but let\'s get those implemented before telling people where they are. :)

I never saw any rpg with horses that I remenber that move with the player. I looked many MMORPGs looking for horses but find nothing.

When u buy a horse u could give him or her a name. But u  cant control the horse as another char. (i.g. when u get to a tavern u would let the horse in a stable otherwise the horse could run(that just would happen if u dont treat him well))

There would be relacionship points for horses. If ure relation isn good with ure horse u could do something to let him or her happy.

I think every one would injoy it with the horses idea.
Expecially me!! :) (Not that I am a fanatic for horses It just would be a good Idea for an RPG)

I can only answer three of these...
5. Don\'t ask this, it\'s a sure way not to become one, they have to be trusted by the devs.
6. There is no such thing as a CB beta, therefore you can\'t test one, CB is an Alpha test for PlaneShift, It\'s just the name of this test, so the Beta will have another name.
7. The answer to this is yes. Follow Greek alphabet, Alpha then Beta... CB is Alpha... understand?

To get picky, CB isn\'t really an alpha of Planeshift, it\'s a \"Demo\" of planeshift.  Currently in testing is the \"Alpha\" of CB (i.e. still having features integrated, still buggy).  When we release it to the general public, it will probably not have an official \"beta\" stage but will probably be frequently updated near the beginning.

Mr. GworthoX:
The planeshift \"npcclient\" is able to provide basic AI/wandering for NPCs/monsters.  Currently, I don\'t think there is body armor but there may be items that you can equip for defense.

It doesn\'t work like that right now, but only one step at a time. Everything else is more important than making clouds.

Not in CB. And it will most likely not be horses, it will more likely be lizards of some kind. So far, only the two flying animals are decided for sure, but it\'ll be a while before they are ready to be used ingame.

Most likely not. If items are too cheap, it\'s too easy to get them, and they are worth nothing, resulting in everyone having the best items. You will definitely have to work to get stuff in PS.

There was two threads that let people sign up for test2, and as far as what I know, there wont be any more tests before CB is released. There will be more closed testing in the future, but it\'s very unlikely that it will be the same people there, as it\'s difficult to keep track of who no longer plays and such.

About the lizards,
they are cool too and if the devs want any horse I am making a model its in the Fan Art named \"(3D) Horse\"

And the items being cheaper I think they dont need being cheaper because there are more kinds of trias than crystals...

And some questions:

1.Where di u find trias?

2.In the ground or killing monsters?

3.If is killing monsters what a person that hasent got weapons fight with do?

Each lvl of GM has certain powers.

1= newbie Gm who can\'t do much
9= God who can do just about anything

Ok, I have read the whole thred now, cus I realy suffer with u, and dont want to repeat another (stupid) question.

In a MMORPG that I play, ther is a \"con\" system (consider)
with wich you can estimate how hard a mob or other oponent will be to beat in battle. However that con-system only goes on the level diff.
A more realistic con system would be a calculation, of AC, HP, Resistence, and so one wich would give a \"hardyness level\" that the con-system will show the diff on.

So to the actual question.

Q1: Will CB have a con system, about how will it work. (alt. will it come later?)?

Q2: I consider a advanced factionsystem to be of most importance to give a high RP-feeling. Will you make much effort in this area?

Q3: And last, a fast simple question. Will ther be more defined classes than Magic and Melee?

No, but IMO you should like cast spells or use something like an identifying skill for the monster which would give you a hint of the HP and stuff. Not some \"Hard to beat\", that\'s up to your own foolyness

Monster sizes could be anything the devs decide fits into the game. I\'m sure there will be plenty of monsters that will require teamwork to overcome.

And there will definatly be events of some kind, although CB won\'t have anywhere near as many as a later release. The kind of \'invasion\' events like that would probably be based on an attack from the Stone Labyrinths or something like it, rather than city seiges, although that\'s entirly possible.

I\'m sure guild wars will keep everyone entertained for the mean time though :) There will be plenty.

A guild is a guild, no matter if it has 5 members or 100 members. It\'s up to the challenged guild to accept a fight, so if it\'s unfair... then don\'t accept. :)

We don\'t have exact numbers at the moment but I estimate we should be able to easily handle a few hundred users at the same time. Maybe more.

The server loads all maps but in a more condensed form (no textures/lightmaps/...)

Oh, I learned that from a post in this forum.It said that a guild can build its own house depends on the available resource. That is so cool. I like it very much.Hope it will come true in a near future release. :)

The problem is that from my point of view (observer, gamer :)) Every day in last month I was looking at all posts on this forum just for any piece of information about ongoing progress. I feel that I lost my time because it could be better organized.

Players are absolutely ok that you need to fix many bugs, and most of us (probably the older part ;)) can wait. But we\'d like to know what\'s going on. For example when one of developers writes \"we\'re not ready with CB\" i\'d like him to write \"because we still have some bugs. It should take us one week. stay tuned\" and i will stay tuned :)
Or when developer writes \"we need one week\" it would be great if he could write one week later \"ok, we need one more week because ...\" - otherwise after second week from his post i\'m starting to be curious why it\'s not yet there. But still no info. Finally somebody asks \"is phase 2 over?\" and anwser is \"no\" - and still we don\'t know why.
Yes, i can imagine it\'s all about bugs, but such lack of information and such lack of organized informations (for example news site is completly useless since nobody can get \"real news\" from there) when all news are spreaded around forums in some posts where somebody from crew anwsers for somebodys question makes the situation very tiring.

Very often there was a post with \"in a week there will be more screenshots\" - it was month ago. Where are screenshots?\" \"we found 50 bugs more, it will take us a week to take them down\" - and it was written 3 weeks ago. No update of this info avaible. Don\'t get me wrong. I do appreciate Your work a lot! I\'m only asking for some status updates like \"there is 30 more bugs, we belive it\'ll take us 4 days\" or \"sorry, we\'re still too buggy to release. we\'re finding more than 5 bugs per day so we will not release this version until this number drops down\" - such informations are very important for people who waits.

The problem is that from my point of view (observer, gamer :)) Every day in last month I was looking at all posts on this forum just for any piece of information about ongoing progress. I feel that I lost my time because it could be better organized.

Players are absolutely ok that you need to fix many bugs, and most of us (probably the older part ;)) can wait. But we\'d like to know what\'s going on. For example when one of developers writes \"we\'re not ready with CB\" i\'d like him to write \"because we still have some bugs. It should take us one week. stay tuned\" and i will stay tuned :)
Or when developer writes \"we need one week\" it would be great if he could write one week later \"ok, we need one more week because ...\" - otherwise after second week from his post i\'m starting to be curious why it\'s not yet there. But still no info. Finally somebody asks \"is phase 2 over?\" and anwser is \"no\" - and still we don\'t know why.
Yes, i can imagine it\'s all about bugs, but such lack of information and such lack of organized informations (for example news site is completly useless since nobody can get \"real news\" from there) when all news are spreaded around forums in some posts where somebody from crew anwsers for somebodys question makes the situation very tiring.

Very often there was a post with \"in a week there will be more screenshots\" - it was month ago. Where are screenshots?\" \"we found 50 bugs more, it will take us a week to take them down\" - and it was written 3 weeks ago. No update of this info avaible. Don\'t get me wrong. I do appreciate Your work a lot! I\'m only asking for some status updates like \"there is 30 more bugs, we belive it\'ll take us 4 days\" or \"sorry, we\'re still too buggy to release. we\'re finding more than 5 bugs per day so we will not release this version until this number drops down\" - such informations are very important for people who waits.


Do you have any idea how many posts that will have simply said \"We need one more week\", if they had started doing that since December, 2003 where CB was initially scheduled for? That\'s quite a lot of weeks. :)

As long as the team doesn\'t work a set hours every day, it wont be possible to set a deadline for anything. One day, people might work for 8 hours straight and get a whole lot done, and the next day, they might not get anything done at all. It differs so much, and people get sick of excuses all the time, so it\'s better just to let them wait.

Anyway, more bugs. One more week and then we\'ll see how the world is looking, but a word of advice... Never trust a PS dev when it comes to a deadline for anything. :)

I think we are thinking the same Gronomist but my question is still alive : why is there a post like 31/10 if it\'s useless ? We do know they are in progress but I can\'t understand why there are some sentences like this following :

I\'ll give you a list of options to chose from if you ever get bored;

Pick the one you like the most, and stick with it. It\'s as close an answer that anyone will ever get, simply because there is no release date, there can not be a release date and there never will be a release date. Not as long as it\'s a sparetime project.

P.S. The options are sorted by time to release, just in case you didn\'t notice. :)

In the future versions of planeshift will there be cities where you could do anything and engage in combat anywhere? Will there be a lot of giant areas where people can do anything and engage in combat anyhow? So people would not complain about the lack of areas where you could kill for pleasure....

Areas with monsters will have support for Player vs Player combat, right?

You can gang up *more then one* to 1 in the PVP areas, or no?

It was said elsewhere that devs are doing a list with the name of all the cheaters... I think it will be a strange and massive lost of xtals for someone...

If there is a such list there is no worry to have...

The devs can\'t know everyone who cheated in MB... the only way to catch them all, if they want to catch them all, would be to not allow crystal tranfers at all. Every decent player should be ready to accept such a decision, if it was made, and recognise the need to punish those who try to ruin the game for the rest of us.

A: Once CB is released, the updates will come regularly and include both bug fixes and new content, areas, quests, etc.

Hum... I dont know the english expression but... we could ask people to tell us who we can trust. For example :

Luca : he knows and knows they arent cheaters
- Acraig
- moogie
- androgos
- djagg
- gronomist
- and so one

then Acraig knows :
then moogie knows :
and so one...


When people find another one fund too many xtals he can tell us...

But I recognize it could destroy fun in the game... this is a simple proposition...

You can see if somebody has a suspicious income... (but I dont think it works... last summer when I connect just 2 or 4 min to pick up xtals from lost room and then disconnect... lol between 5 and 10 crystals in less than one minute sometimes - but not often... so I dont think its a good solution : I dont want to be considered like a cheater... and moreover a cheater with almost 1000 r isnt a good cheater...)

So I cant find a good way to find who are the cheater but : when I camp in the lost room it wasnt for nothing... it was veeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrryy boring believe in me so I dont want it to be useless...

I just hope the cheater wont be able to continue to cheat on cb...

A: Fortunately not. During testing, creatures have been dropping gold falchions and other weird stuff. But this was just to test the looting and merchant systems. When CB goes public, only things that make sense will be dropped. :)

Also, Talad, The Director of PlaneShift Inc., A/S, etc., is very much against unrealistic drops and such things. Drops will also be regulated, so if something which is worthless drops too often, the drop rate will be decreased so the server doesn\'t get flooded with unnecessary items. And so on. :)

There will be character transfer\'s correct?  That is registered characters will be let in and be in first, but people who do not have registered characters will have to wait a week.

I want to play CB as soon as I can, but I stopped playing Planeshift because all it seemed to be was a pretty chat room and nothing to do until the release of CB.  

So this has been a while, and I don\'t know if my character has been deleted.  (over 9 months)  So should I download Planeshift and register again?

A: Unfortunately we\'re not that advanced to have Red Faction-esque destructable landscape. :P I\'m not sure if that sort of terraforming will ever be implemented, due to how it could be exploited for annoying purposes.



varsity: No. There will be a 1 week period during which people can take the opportunity to transfer their accounts over. Nobody will be playing during this time, so no \'headstart\' just for people who downloaded Molecular Blue.

Hard to say. I think that CB will require a little bit more memory but otherwise the stats should be the same or even less as CS has gotten a bit faster now.

There won\'t be any new monsters added to CB before its release, unless they already have monsters that have been modelled, rigged, skinned and animated and are ready for use.

I always love games that have something extra\'s to do, like simple mini-games, a casino to play card games for example for gold against NPC\'s or real players. Does anyone played Lufia2: Raise of the sinistrals? Than you also know the ancient cave ;) I spended like 500 hours in that cave! I mean add something like that and PS if my nr. 1 game immediately :P

Yes... I\'ll try and explain very briefly the progression system in CB.

Basically, you gain experience points from various things, usually by performing a skill successfully. Gaining EXP will give you Progression Points. You spend these points by going to an NPC who will train you in a particular skill.

There\'s alot more to it than this, but that\'s basically how you make \'the difference\', i.e. gaining skills and strength. There\'s no way to know if someone is far stronger than you- except, perhaps, the equipment they weild.

CB is nothing but a hack&slash demo. It\'s still the very early alpha stage of PS. You can\'t expect a fully developed character customization just yet.

1. Please drop ANYTHING you know about the charcreation in MB, the CB\'s is completly diffrent. No need to set your character\'s job, since you can\'t. Do whatever you want

2. CB will be 0.3(00x) where X is probably 3 or something, anyway, CB is the first alpha of PS, ALPHA which will provide the basic functionality of a MMORPG, not so many unique things. For next release the code is there for alot of stuff, we just need to figure out how to implement it. If it\'s going to be some unique stuff, probably Post-CB is the earliest date

You can learn to mine at any point you wish. In char creation, just choose what best suits your char\'s background, and when those things are implimented into the game, you\'ll already have some skill in them.

I understand that many things will increase your strength, but I can\'t think of something that will increase your maximum HP.
Is there any way to gain more health after creation?

I ask because usually it\'s the levels that increase maximum health in a RPG.

Well, enduarance is probably the biggest stat factor since it\'s the wellbeing of the character and how long you can suffer before dieing.

Later stuff like weather, cloths that keep you warm and happy, mental happines, physical state etc will play a role in those calculations too

A little searching around the forums (and perhaps even reading this thread *gasp*) could\'ve answered that. There will be no crystals as currency in CB. Forget the MB prices.

And considering that crystal hunting was/is the main event for MB, think of how boring it would\'ve been to get the items quickly and easily.

How hard will it be for players to become the Master of all Trades like it happens in so many other MMORPGS? I love the whole freedom concept but isn?t it a wee bit too flexible?

You know, I?d really hate to roleplay a healer only to realize that most players can heal themselves after 2 months and be able to cast offensive magic/assasinate/lockpick/go melee/etc.

Also, it\'s possible that you could \'forget\' skills if you don\'t use them in the future. And with there being so many skills, it would be impossible to maintain a good level in them all.

Some corrections:

The CB server is weaker than the original MB server in terms of hardware. However, the entire machine is dedicated to CB, which will mean no contention of system resources. CB is run on a dedicated server.

As for the MB server, Fragnetics will continue to use it for its web hosting operations. Right now both servers are connected to the same uplink, so there should be no difference in terms of connectivity between the MB and CB servers.

If CB gets really big, there is a chance that a provider in another geographical region will host an additional instance of CB.

Not a particularly strong machine - I\'m sure a lot of you have better systems at home, but I think it should hold up fairly well. The harddisks are not mirrored so it should be possible to keep an archive of the database and other crucial files.

It is to show that you have come  from a previous age.  More a momento and reminder of the past than any usefull object.  I do not believe it will have any magical powers, also from what I have heard it will be inseperable from the character meaning no (buying/selling/stealing/losing) of it.

That means you need to have 3 accounts, and if you\'re selling your characters, you will be destorying the whole thought behind the ring.
The ring is supposed to be an object to show that you played MB (Might do something more, like give access to some exclusive store or something later), so please, don\'t give it away / sell it to newbies. If you don\'t want it, we might just as well delete it from the DB

lol, if there\'s a minimum amount of xtals to get the Ring, then there were lot\'s of ppl who got nothing... like Zagro, everytime he found something he gave it to the 1st person he found, I remember that. And the guys who were giving dias away...

EDIT: I\'ve been reading the page again and Russian Vodka has another chance to make the migration again :D

yeah if you had a conversion rate of 2 or 3 to 1 thats only for a specific amount of gems.  If your interested, i worked out an estimate for the coversion rate, given the fact that its logarithmic:

Tria = log to the base z of (X/Y)
where z approx = 1.0004575
x = total value of your gems (rubies = 1, emaralds = 10, diamonds = 100)
y approx = 10.39646

Helps if you know how to calculate logs i suppose :P

Have tested it through 100 - 26000 gems, prob dosnt work for low gem amount, especially not gem amounts under 10.  The devs made it not linear so that the players who had huge amounts of cyrstals didnt get a massive head start, i assume.

And your mother and sis play planshift?  thats amazing, seriously your family must be one of a kind. (in a good way, of course)

There never were any set requirements, however I\'d say CB requires less than MB. But a relatively normal computer with 512MB ram, ~1.5 - 2 GHz and a somewhat new Graphics card should be able to run it just fine. Loading times might be a little longer if you have less RAM, and the overall gameplay might be a little more choppy, but as long as you have somewhere around 256MB or more, you\'ll be fine.

So, if it symbolizes that you\'ve played MB, why is it restricted for people who collected more crystals?

Hmmm ok I know I\'m a n00b and using this thread is very dangerous for my first post but I\'ve cruised a bit around the forum before and I ESPECIALLY read through this thread before posting, so I hope it won\'t get deleted/flamed/ignored...

Haven\'t had the chance of playing MB (downloaded it but when I wanted to play it the server was gone).
Other than this, Project: Entropia is my only MMORPG experience so far, so I was wondering about a few interesting things:

1) Player interaction. Given that combat will be a \"click once, then see it happen\" experience, I wonder if there are other player interactions between players possible, like, for instance, waving, doing a thumbs-up, throwing a kiss, stuff like that?

2) I know this is a fantasy MMORPG but, given the fact that it is different from anything previous, is the dev team considering also a \"modern\" range of weapons? I mean, axes, swords and bows are pretty common to a lot of (MMO)RPGs but would you consider developing modern weaponry (something like lightsabers and laser blasters)- or such weapons but with a phantasy-twist to them? Also, besides armor (which won\'t be implemented too soon from what I gather), will there also be shields for protection? And if yes, will in \"party vs mob\" or even \"guild war\" type combat formationing be possible as to make use of combined shielding for better protection, like the \"Turtle formation\"?

3) (forgot to add this one, so it\'s edited) Will there be a mentorship system implemented? Like in Project: Entropia, for helping out newcomers there is a mentorship system, where for helping out a n00b (which becomes a disciple of said mentor), the mentor is rewarded?

1) Can\'t really be answered, as with every new bug fix, new bugs appear all over the place.

2) The server gets updated all the time with the stuff needed to run the game.

3) Guilds will have their guild chat, but if you want guild forums and such, you\'ll have to make a guild website.

If there is an emote which isn\'t ingame, it will be added someday. At this point however, all the things like kissing and dancing and whatever you may think off hasn\'t been added, as the main focus of CB is to get the combat and skill system working. But emotes will come some day.

There is a system, like Kronon said. It\'s quite simple actually. Players can set themselves to advisor mode, and they will recieve questions from time to time, from people who have something to ask, which can be... anything, really. However, don\'t get any ideas about powertrips, because abusing the system can easily result in a mad Dev/GM, and you don\'t want mad Devs/GMs on you, because they can /kill you... And they can do it a lot.

I migrated but I didnt get a ring, I admit I didnt spend a whole lot of time looking for crystals however I had been playing the game.

Why would it be like that? But that\'s something that comes naturally anyway. If you\'re a good magic user, you wont be good at melee fighting. So one thing leads to another, really.

In a fantasy game lightsabers and blasters aren\'t the most suitable weapons, but there could be something like research and produce weapons. New weapons made by players and all that. I don\'t know if I made myself clear...

It is a fantasy game, yes, but it is still a fantasy game in a medieval setting, and no matter how weird your fantasy is, it is not possible to find anything which has the slightest resemblance to a lightsaber, or a blaster gun in a medieval setting. Just isn\'t possible. A whip of fire for the baddest of the baddest maybe, but besides that... Nope.

Forget about the future weapons but what I want to know are there going to be any range weapons(i.e. bows, crossbows) since I know there are none in CB.  Now there might be none so far because of the difficulty of doing them, but would like to know if they are planned in the future or not :)

Now that I\'m thinking, in a fantasy middle age game weapons that are impossible in RL \"now\" could be made in PS, but not lightswords or fire weapons, but other things... have you ever seen Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow... er... you saw the strange jets that fly like birds? What I mean is advanced things for the age but based on current knowledge. Again, I don\'t know if you understand me... *thinks in an example er... I know: think in the cameras, in PS a guy invented something like that, but he made one that had eyes and a hand and would draw the image very fast (stupid example but it was one of the greates explanations)

I cant transfer the ring, I want the ring. (Mainly because I dont want some noob who only just signed on when MB ended to brag to me about the ring calling me a newbie. oh, I see, I understand your point... I would want the ring too (lol, we don\'t even know if it does something but everyone wants it just for what it symbolises)
If the name was already taken it reduces the chances to change the name of your char...
