Title: Outa my own curiousity
Post by: Mage of Darkness on September 02, 2004, 07:07:34 am
ok well i was curious as to if such as you type /wave there would be an actual animation for it. and if so will there be other combonations. cause in past games that had animations for it you can do some pretty fun things such as create a pretty interesting dance if i do say so myself *starts danceing* /wave/skip/kick/jump/duck/hug *finishes his russian style dance*  :]

Its not that big...maybe 10 px too tall but its still pretty small.

And yes, there will be more animations like that.

He had another sig before that.
Id like to see things like /me dose pushups and you would see them do pushups

I believe FESFES was referring to the rather Archaic fellow with the sword, that was about 400 pixels high?

I could be mistaken.

This action thing, sounds NWN-ish...
I don\'t want them.. it\'s a waste of development in my opinion... I\'d much rather they focused on combat, and foraging etc.

Animations always help with spicing things up, although this would cause many people to just stand in the town center and dance which I find kind of annoying
Argh! It has an animated sig! Kill it! X(

dont mock buhamut . and second seeing a bunch of people danceing would be fun. it could be like a community type thing on who can make the best dance and such.

Making dances out of emote animations? Sounds funny! :) Maybe we can allow macros / scripting for this limited set of instructions... a victory dance, for example. :D

I think we should have those animations.  Id also like if chars could sit on a chair or lean against a wall.
These would really improve the Rping elements of the game.

Yeah, and out your hands behind your back and yawn, just those simple little things people do in rl

I agree, I really do, but with everything else the devs have to work on with the game, I think this should be in the Wish List.
Least, it\'s starting to be like that. Thinnk about it for one second. You want to be able to yawn, laugh, cry, hug, sit, stand, lie down, crouch, blah blah blah. It would take alot of work, and waste time that could be better spent in other areas.
I say, start with the basics, and if someone is done or gets bored, then spend some time on them then.

I agree with Kanon.

edit: You\'re from Australia, ergo, you rock. Are you a fellow Melbournian?

Adeli: If that\'s what you think, then you\'re playing the wrong game. PlaneShift\'s development is focused on roleplaying and an immersive enviroment. :) These animations/emotes are definitely a good idea.

Hey, if you have a good idea, Moogie will agree. Simple eh? :D

I would like to see this expanded more that other games. Most have a few, simple emothions such as wave, laugh, angry, sit, stand, and the like. But, as FESx2 said, leaning against the wall, yawn, scratch your behind (  :]  )... these things you never see in a game.

Hey, the more, the merrier :D
I always enjoyed playing around with all the varieties of emoticons/animations, it is a pitty that many mmorpgs don\'t give them any importance =/ or they just make lame ones =P
Definetly a good idea to incentivate roleplay.

Pfft, Moogie isn\'t always right, just often.

And emotes wouldn\'t take too much time, it is just a simple animation the likes of which will most likely be in mining and such.

This will be a role-playing game so I would love to have these added (besides my legs are getting cramped from standing since I logged in i need that sit command).

Also I think there should be special ones that you have to select a target and they have to accept (like dancing, rock paper scissors, etc).

Post by: Karyuu on September 05, 2004, 07:59:06 am
So how about composing a list of emotes we\'d like to see in the future? ;)

/wave
/point
/dance
/angry
/sad
/laugh
/yawn
/cheer

Add onto it? Keeping things realistic, and helpful with roleplay (i.e., doing push-ups isn\'t it ;P).
Title:
Post by: Reikar on September 05, 2004, 08:20:59 am
/sit
/faint (basically you fall over)
/sleep (you fall over more controlled)

I\'ll edit this post when i think of some more
Title:
Post by: Seytra on September 05, 2004, 06:36:21 pm
/lean (well, if there isn\'t anything to lean to, you\'ll fall :) )
/tease
/play (like poking your sword in the dust; things you do when you\'re bored)
/clean (clean your weapon(s) / armor)
/brush (hair/whatever with hand, Enkis could /lick (paws, fur, ... :]), Klyros could /spread (wings))

we should, as I\'ve said on some other thread, have emotes like /angry /happy /curious stick until you change or drop them. If the Enki is angry, it\'s going to keep swishing it\'s tail untill it\'s not angry anymore. Humans will have an angry look on their faces and Klyros would so sth. similar like halfspreading the wings, diaboli have a tail, too, which can be incorporated in emotes and Kran could have /sparkle. :)

Post by: smoak on September 05, 2004, 07:10:38 pm
/pace
/kick (at dirt or whatevers in front  of you)
/think (hand on chin or something similar)
Title:
Post by: Icefalcon on September 05, 2004, 08:35:21 pm
/toast (Cmon, how can you have a drinking party without a toast?)

my list to see put in:
/twirl
/playdead (it sends a messege that your dead when someone clicks on you)
/backflip
/uberbreakdanceofDOOM!
ok well there is my list  :D

*edit* /dotherobot and there should also be hidden ones that after you create a certain combination it unlocks a better one

Erm... why?
Title:
Post by: Moogie on September 06, 2004, 12:35:36 am
So you can roleplay a coward, of course! :D
Title:
Post by: Reikar on September 06, 2004, 12:45:59 am
/pray1 (you pray with both knees on the ground)
/pray2 (you pray on one knee)
/kneel (you kneel on one leg (basicly pray2 with out the praying))
/worship (you get on both legs and start worshiping something (your god, Princess Agara?))

I heard somewhere that there will be gods in this if so then you can have it so that worshipping or praying to yur god affects there attitute towards you (i worship a good god of light: good god of light gets a little happier with me and bad god of dakness wants to strike me down with lightning)
Title:
Post by: Karyuu on September 06, 2004, 12:59:38 am
Too many variations on that one, I think... Instead of doing several types of \'prayer\' animations, it would be better to do one and move onto something else, something different. Though I do like /kneel. Perhaps that could work for praying in general.
Title:
Post by: Reikar on September 06, 2004, 01:16:49 am
i gave it so many options cause those are different ways i have seen people prayin and i figured that this way everyone gets what they want
Title:
Post by: Karyuu on September 06, 2004, 01:18:58 am
It\'s a nice thought, but then you\'d have to accomodate the people who\'d want to /dance in different ways, or /wave in different ways, or /sit or /laugh, etc., etc. One type is enough.
Title:
Post by: Reikar on September 06, 2004, 01:33:07 am
Well eventually I would like to see multiple ways to wave, multiple ways to sit, and multiple ways to dance, but you are right. Right now it might be asking a bit much from the game (but I?m still hopefully ;) ).
Title:
Post by: FESFES on September 06, 2004, 08:39:19 am
omg you guys forgot /explode for me!:) ( a few ppl who play the game will know what Im talking about :P)
But I think these should be added for sure. Its stuff like that that adds rpping elements to a game. Not more weps, skills, or anything like that.
Title:
Post by: Mage of Darkness on September 07, 2004, 01:17:38 am
hmmmm for most it will be a combintaion of buttons to make up your own like lets say you want to make a dance you would go to make button in in the command line type /wave/jump/kneel etc etc but on screen to othes it would output \"namehere is danceing\" that way for those who want multiple ways to do things they have like /kneel and add an extra part to it like /wave so it looks like our arm is outstretched praying. like wise for other things. it solves the point of having multiple ways of doing things but with a smaller amount of animations to create.
Title:
Post by: Karyuu on September 07, 2004, 01:38:16 am
There is no need for a /jump, as I\'m sure that\'ll be part of the keyboard/mouse controls ;P
