Title: This isn't in too many games!
Post by: Geghlesh on September 06, 2004, 09:29:42 pm
What if we could actually customize AND decorate our armor? Think about it. The thing that would make this stand out, would be the stats of the weapon. No matter what happens and how it looks(armor too) it still have the same stats as the item you based it off. For instance, you have a iron sword, giving it spikes or giving it colors on certain points wouldnt raise the attack or attack speed of the weapon. This could kinda be for fun. In my opionon, I would very much have this on PS.

P.S. i like type random things! :D

wouldent this mean theyd need to build a 3d modeler into the game like 3dsmax??? that would take the... biscuit if it wasnt done in a 3d modeler it would make the weapons and armour look cheap and poo... can i say poo sorry if i cant.

And im sure customisable armour and stuff has been mentiond befor use search next time :)

Well, maybe in 6-7 years Tech will be sufficiently advanced for this. :P
Oh yes, don\'t forget the huge amount of HD space it would take up.

*hugs his large amount of free HD space, fast pc, and large amount of bandwidth*

*realises he has no skill in any sort of artistic design*

:P would be better if you had to have first: a profession or job which would make you good at this stuff, the more skilled you are, the more you can decorate. Second, split the item up into sections, and make it like the paint bucket in Ms Paint :D The higher you skill, the more shapes and designs you can click on. (Does that make sense??)

This would make it less complicated, and would make everyone have slightly different stuff.

(And it\'s another service I can make money on :D)

That\'s a cool idea !!

Maybe the strongest guilds could have their customized armor and swords, this wouldn\'t anyone to do whatever they want but create a good union in the guilds without too much work from our dear devs !
And moreover it could lead to spying techniques by stealing an enemy guild\'s armor !! HAHAHA, I love this idea !!

What if we took the armor and segmented it (like right top part, bottom left part, etc.) then we could give each segment a hex value (the hex value would represent which image was chosen by the maker of the armor). When the player computer reads the value it generates an image for that suit of armor. This would allow a basic way to customize armor with out requiring them to use a special 3d modeler and I believe it wouldn?t require too much to transfer over the net since you could have it so that the images are stored in the players computer and all you are sending is the hex code for the armor.

If this can?t be done, I hope it at least gives someone else an idea on a way that does work.

[EDIT] if this does work we could do this for weapons, scabbards, and other things that tend to be custimizable in real world

It would be interesting to have certain shapes for different areas and piecing them together makes a piece of armour. Add in paint/heralds and the base texture for a material and you\'ll soon see more and more variety with every new piece added.

Of course this assumes the modellers have the time to be modelling many pieces of armour. But all good things come with time and need to be slowly built up so one day this would be lovely to see.

My character hopes to be a general smithy, and customisation of the stuff I make would be a dream come true.
