A lot of forums seem to be making their own \"conga lines\" for http://www.freeipods.com, and since I just decided to try this site out, I figure Planeshift might as well have one too! The deal with this site is, you complete one of their \"offers,\" for things like free trials of Netflix or AOL. You then have to get five other people to do the same thing, naming you as their referrer. Then, supposedly, they will send you an iPod of your choice for free. I know it sounds like BS, and since I haven\'t yet met the requirements for getting a free iPod I can\'t vouch for its authenticity, but a lot of people claim to have gotten iPods from these people, and seem to have pictures of invoices and packages to prove it. True, maybe all these people are lying jerks, or are really the owners of the site using aliases, but I figure I haven\'t got anything to loose by trying this out, except a bit of my overly abundant free time. ;) Freeipods.com doesn\'t ask for your credit card number or any other sensitive information. You do have to give your credit card number to the companies making the \"offers\" (except for Netscape and possibly others who allow you to use online checking) but these are all well-known companies like Blockbuster, AOL, etc.
So, the idea with conga lines is that people cooperate to generate referrals for each other. The way it works is, if you want to sign up for the site, you use the referral link posted by whoever is at the top of the list of people waiting for referrals. You are then added to the list of people waiting in line. When the person at the top of the line gathers five referrals (completing the requirements for an iPod) he/she is removed from the list, and the next person in line starts gathering referrals.
So here\'s the current line, I will update this as people join.

Join fast to get a good spot in the line! Please post here if you join through the line, so I know to add you to the list. You can only join the list if you register through the list. :) Also, be aware that to generate a referral for someone, you have to complete one of the \"offers\" on the site; just registering isn\'t enough. :(
I hope the mods don\'t have a problem with this... If you do, mods, just go ahead and lock it or delete it or whatever. Please give it a chance though, as you can see there\'s a lot of evidence that it\'s not a scam. :)

This doesn\'t take up that much time, really, and I mean it\'s an iPod... It\'s worth a bit of time if it\'s free. =)

or instead of a free ipod, you can get scammed for free! Seems to pyramid schemish for my tastes.

*shrugs* Well, I don\'t see what you have to lose with this, I completed the offer like a year ago and never paid anything, so if I had done the same with five friends the only way you could get \"scammed\" is by not receiving the ipod...but that wouldn\'t matter since it\'s free anyways.

AOL doesn\'t require a credit card. :)
FESFES, did it say Party Poker was supposed to be instant? Some of them are, but it usually takes around 24 hours to get credit. What e-mail address did you use?

You can pick online checking from the Payment Options dropdown... Then you can just do a Google search and find a routing number (AOL checks it for authenticity), then enter a fake random account number (no verification on the account number, but I think it has to be 9 digits), or you can of course use a real check. :)
Edit: If you already did Party Poker though then there\'s no reason to do AOL too...

No, not really, unfortunately you just have to wait and see. When your referral goes green (i.e. your offer worked) I\'ll add you to spot #2 in the line. :)

Yes, however the offer you completed will no longer be a link, and will be covered in red check marks. Also, if you go to your Check Status page, it will say \"Congratulations! You have completed the requirements. Now just get five friends to complete an offer.\"

I did the Netscape one, but I don\'t think it\'s available anymore. :( I\'d personally reccomend the Infone one, because there\'s never any monthly fee, so you don\'t have to bother cancelling it. :)

That\'s what I did with the Netscape one. :P Did you use Google to get a Transit/Routing Number? I tried entering random crap and it told me it was invalid, so I got a real one off a Google search and then entered a random account number, and it accepted that. :)

Wow this is such scam, i just signed up for it and was excited lol, but didn\'t notice that I need 5 referrals through this tricky thing. And the blockbuster signing up was totally shady

Well I thought the sites might be fake too but I considered no harm being done since I never gave a credit card #. Secondly the Party poker sing up was real cuz I used that account in the real game so I guess their all real. Finally with all the work they did and money they spent it would cost too much for them to exist.........unless they made money off it somehow which the real companys do.

Dude, I said you needed five referrals... It isn\'t tricky, that\'s how they make money off it. 90% of the people who join do an offer but then never bother getting the referrals, so they get the company money but never cost the company an iPod. That\'s why the company can afford to give iPods to the few people who do meet the requirements.
And what\'s so shady about Blockbuster? They\'re only the biggest movie rental company in the world... =/

Bah, the 13 are a bunch of wussies who won\'t do an offer. :P Most of them have been there for longer than it takes for an offer to go through. Believe me, it takes a lot of pendings to get five completes sometimes. The instant I get five I\'ll put you in #1 though. :)

nothing bad about blockbuster, but when i signed up for free trial from freeipod site... after i submitted my credit card info and all the info the page went to their home page. it didnt even say something like, contrats, you made a trial subscription, there wasn\'t an email sent, and i can\'t log in with the email I used.. wtf should i be thinkin? ima just gonna call em tomorow and cancel it

Weird... That happened to me when I tried to buy a new video card from Newegg a month or two ago... I got to the part where your order is about to be complete, and it took me right back to my shopping cart. My mom got totally freaked out, because she\'d let me use her credit card. So now I\'m still stuck with this damn Radeon 9000 Pro 128 MB. =/
FESFES: Nothing really. They do check the street address you use though (don\'t ask me how the hell they got a list of every address in the United States, but they did), so you have to find a real one on Google. I tried to refer myself this way the other day, but I haven\'t gotten credit yet. :(

Well I am using an old e-mail address for this that I don\'t use anymore, so if it gets spammed up I don\'t really care. As for my physical address, what do I care if I hget more junk mail to throw away? :)

W00t! I just got credit for the fake account\'s referral! =D Now I just have to hope that they don\'t somehow figure out that it\'s fake. They check all your referrals after you get five of them and request your iPod, but I don\'t see how they could find out... Just gotta hope for the best I guess. :)

By the way Zide, how old are you and whos card (real card) did you use? Just wondering because my Email says i\'m 16, but you have to be 18 to use the card. Will this somehow screw something up?

I did it with aol and it worked but it took like four days. Im gonna do it at each friends house I go to now :)
Also, did you have to download netscape when you signed up?

The computer thing isnt a problem. I got about 8 friends that will sign up when i give them the fake #\'s.

Guess what guys, they research everything, your account and your referrals before sending the ipod, if it\'s all bs don\'t complain if you don\'t get one.
Edit: Found out about a guy who got one with fake info, I guess there\'s a small chance..

Urgh, I totally forgot about this thread until I found it just now when I was Googling my username for kicks. =/ Sorry for not replying for so long. =( I pretty much gave up on this whole thing a long time ago, I never got my five referrals and it just wasn\'t worth the time and effort anymore. I suggest you don\'t get caught up in it either, it ends up just being a big waste of time. So many people already have accounts there, or are unwilling to try it out, that getting enough referrals is very hard nowadays. Again, sorry for forgetting about this for so long, and I hope anyone else trying this has better luck! =)
