Title: Hardware vs. Performance?
Post by: Typhorean on September 07, 2004, 05:31:43 pm
Post your system and how often you lag, for how long, your average frame rate (if you know it), and any other related info you can come up with.

When I played, I was running on a box with an AMD XP 1700+ with 512 MB of PC2100 RAM, using a 28.8k internet connection, and I had a GeForce 4 video card, though I can\'t remember the exact model.

I experienced about 2 minutes of lag every 45 minutes or so -- it didn\'t happen often.

I was running the game at 1024x768 resolution, and I can\'t remember my average FPS.

The last time I played Planeshift I was using:

Pentium 4   2.6gHz FSB800
1024mb DDR 400mhz ram
GeForce 4 Ti 4800SE
ADSL 256/128kbps

I did not notice any lag at all, but I can\'t remember the fps.

P4, 2.4ghz
512mb RAM
MSI ATI RX9800pro
about 9 gigs of free space
IDSL (very fast).

Very little lag.

I had \"some\" lag-like problems with my old G4 MX420
I\'d also experienced a framedrop when looking in the direction of Laanx temple

Specs:
Pentium 4 2.4gHz FSB433 [or close by]
756mb DDR2800 Ram
GeForce 6800 Ultra 256 MB GDDR3 (Yes I know that my GFX ain\'t the bottleneck here)
ADSL 2048/128kbps

I rarely experience lag issues.. Though it happens - when it does it usually happens to everyone else too..
I\'m playing it with res: 1280*1024

Athlon 64 3200+
2Gb DDR3200 Ram
Radeon 9800 Pro
ADSL

And I never lag ever.
Average FPS = 180
:D

Edit: In rain it\'s about 100, looking off the edge of the world it\'s like 300.

Bleh...
Pentium 4, 1.8 GHz
512 MB Ram
Some crappy graphics card...
DSL, 100 mbps

Edit: Oh, and I hardly ever have lag...

Not suprising with a 100mbps ADSL line

You do know thats over 10x the maximum theoretical ADSL speed don\'t ya? ;)

Hey, Im no expert, but thats what it says on my little widows popup thingy when I connect... It is really fast.

Heh.. we already went over this in another thread a while back ;) Its your network connection that registers at 100mpbs.

Anyway:

AMD Athlon 2600+
768 MB PC 2700 RAM
Geforce 2 64 MB (woo!)
ADSL

Don\'t lag very much, even less now that I have more RAM installed.

Average FPS with 1024x768 is about 30-35.

AMD Athlon something-or-other (2.6GHz)
1024mb DDR RAM
GeForce FX5200 Ultra Gamer (256mb)
Cable (512kb/sec)

Average framerate: 180 (50-70 in the rain)

Running OpenGL mode, windowed at 1024x768 res.

Intel Pentium III @ 750mHz
GeForce 4 MX420 64MB SDRAM
Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
384MB PC-133 Non-Parity SDRAM
56k Modem at 2.8k/s

Running using OpenGL mode at 1024x768.res full screen

Ya okay I know it sucks but it runs Planeshift decently. Were planning to get a new computer anyways and better internet for my dads new work, so its just a matter of time...

not very much lag (amazingly) just some during rain (nothing I can\'t bare).

I run:

AMD 2200 XP +
512meg PC2100
GeForce4 TI 4800
Sound Blaster Audigy 1394 GOLD
Generic 10/100 Network (Road Runner- 5meg/sec)

Video is running:
1600x1200x32bit
>70FPS

Lag?  Maybe a little bit!

I run...
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
768 DDR SDRAM
GeForce FX 5600 (256 DDR)
ADSL 256/128kb/s

OpenGL full screen 1024x768

Not sure about my fps, haven\'t ever brought it up.
I\'ve only had lag once really, recently and it was bad. Don\'t know what caused it.

AMD Durron 1Ghz
GeForce 4 mx 440 8xagp
ADSL 567kbs
OpenGL - 800 x 600

I lag like the 1970\'s to the EXTREME!! once ever 5 min i cant move for 45sec ish. Rain is the lord of EVIL. If i look at the plaza (bronz place) i get lowerd to like 3fps

i avarage 5 - 10 fps

((( THIS IS NOT A JOKE - god hates me :( )))

I think my card is buggerd tho...

I haven\'t messed with MB for ages but I can guarantee I\'ll lag to an extent.

Hardware aside (I have a reasonably monster system) I live in the UK.

It appears (am I right?) that fragnetics is in Singapore which is the best part of 6800 miles away.

My data connection is above-average cable (almost direct to the peering) as such, this reduces the ammount of routing I go through.

Traceroute takes 22 hops to reach fragnetics and my average ping is circa 309ms (mainly hampered by the speed of an electrical pulse / the speed of light in fibre).

My averages:
Code: [Select]
--- 203.81.47.74 ping statistics ---
37 packets transmitted, 36 received, 2% packet loss, time 36031ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 280.528/308.977/383.257/22.191 ms, pipe 2

So I\'d hope the only thing to cause me lag when CB is out is physical distance ;)

P4 3.2 Ghz
1024 MB RAM
Radeon 9800XT
DSL 2Mbit

Average around 100 fps
Less in the rain...
it sometimes lags for a second

I ran MB on ...

AMD Althon 1.2 GHZ
256 MB RAM
ASUS V8200 Geforce3 64MB
Cable

and

(laptop)
Intel Celeron 2.0 GHZ
256MB RAM
Shared Memory Gfx
Cable

The interessting thing was that running MB on the Celeron was much smoother than on the Athlon. This led me to the conclusion that MB is using too much cpu power instead of gpu. I am no expert though.
Ow and I lagged with both ;)

25-40 fps

Athlon 700 Mhz
640 ddram
Geforce4 64mb mx440 se
LAN 100mbps
Cable 512k

!024 x 768 windowed 32bit

lags often freezes cmmonly and has a usual fps of about 30 about 5 when raining and 0.3 when lagging :D

AMD Athlon 2400+
768MB DDR 266
Gforce XFX 5600 128mb
1.5mbit line with 256upload

800x600 res open GL

I get an average of 113 FPS using a 5 minute benchmark with FRAPS whilst running around the town, Max fps 511 looking at wall in enterance to temple :P

I think that the lag has relatively nothing to do with system performance, from my experiences with it, it seems to be caused be someone tearing the fabric of the world by glitching through a wall/object.  Just depends how long they get stuck there i think, but fps drops to 0 during this time :(
