Draklar, \"favourite\" doesn\'t mean you list every single band you listen to. :) Having so many can\'t be \"your favourite\"; merely you like listening to all of them (and you like listing them all to show off ;) ). Out of that list, who would you pick as your few favourites? :)

As for mine, I don\'t play any instruments, although I\'d love to learn the piano. An easy favourite genre for me is videogame music, although that could literally mean any type of music. I don\'t really have a favourite genre... I just like what I like.

Favourite artists... Nobuo Uematsu (of FF fame), who does mostly \'epic\' classical and electronic. Muse, who do alternative. Nine Inch Nails, who do industrial.

ok, I edited it... but left other bands because there\'s only Power Metal in my favorites (and that isn\'t good enough view on what I listen to) :P

This mostly describes me (except for the not playing any intruments part, I play violin, viola, saxophone, guitar, and plan on learning keyboard and trumpet quite soon). I download a lot of videogame remixes, and I really can\'t say what my favorite genre would be because I listen to such a wide variety. Here are some of my favorite bands/artists, though:

Dandy Warhols
Radiohead
Mis-Load (you\'ve probably never heard of them)
Yasunori Mitsuda

My taste in music is basically all things rock, although I particularly like Green Day.

If you haven\'t checked out their new CD, do it now!  You can listen to the whole thing on MTV.com, and it is AWESOME!  (Not like anything else they\'ve ever done, it\'s got a lot of softer bits to it.  Really great!)  :)   :D   8)  :)

Draklar - why didnt you just simply put, \"i like metal in general\", you might have saved the lives of the few who tried to read that whole post.

does anybody play instruments like guitar or bass, not classical stuff like piano?

Linkin Park and crap like that (emphasis on the word \"crap\").

Draklar, you should listen to some of the original cheese metal (yeah, that\'s what I call it :P), like Rainbow\'s Stargazer and the like. I\'m pretty sure older songs like that were some sort of inspiration to the bands you listen to. Compare Rainbow Rising or Dio\'s Holy Diver album covers to the Rhapsody album covers, you\'ll see what I mean.

Nu Metal is usually rockish hip-hop :P
it\'s selling out, throwing away metal traditions and playing music that doesn\'t sound too metal...
so no, it can\'t be considered metal, not \"true\" metal anyway :P
\"Penny Dreadful\" by Elvenking is nice song about Nu Metal ;)
Title:
Post by: Zorium on September 18, 2004, 10:28:05 am
Linkin Park is metal since when I thought it was random screaming and a guitar :D

P.S. Oh and FESFES its easier not easyer (just talking about your sig).

EDIT: Its also than not then.  Sorry FESFES it was burning my eyes :P.

LoL just remembered, in history class we had to do like a survey kinda thing on paper and turn it in to our teacher. and then she called up ppl and sicussed it with them. and then she\'s like \"ive seen linkin park spelled lots of different ways, anyone know how to really spell it?\" and this kid like 3 seats in front of me said \"yeah, F-A-G-G-O-T-S\".. what other kinda stuff is classed ass nu metal? i cant really think of anyone that plays like they do.

PS they guy that said that was a punker, so thats why he said it, he doesnt like them either.

I mean seriously, what the hell? I want to be able to listen, not have to interpret. I know that most Dio songs have some sort of meaning, but I have no idea what the hell it is.

Anyway, Draklar, I think you might like some of Dio\'s stuff. Start by downloading Rainbow\'s Stargazer, see if you like it.

heh this subject never ceases to leave both in forum and chat..

Linkin Park rox mmmmk, their lyrics do make sense Joey you actually have to give them a chance and listen to them instead of just conforming with some of these other peoples thoughts on the band. When probally most of these people have only listened to one song or none at all and made a judgement upon it.

Metal is alright, I listened to two songs kinda cultish but alright it was cool, but surely it wasn\'t anything worth buying maybe just ripping.

R.A.P.: \"Retarts Atempting Poetry\"
1.A weak attempt at music...or poetry...or something...Anyway, it consists of some guy bitchin and moaning about life while another guy makes a 1st grade level beat in the background
2.Absolute proof of the degeneration of our culture.

On a later note, I am pleasently surprised to see the amount of Metal lovers in the PS community. It realy brings back hope that our modern society is not fully doomed.
Title:
Post by: DepthBlade on September 18, 2004, 10:15:31 pm
See thats just you, you say this not because its entirely true..but because you don\'t like it...If you guys don\'t like something you immediately pick at it and try and crumble it because why? Your bored and have nothing else to do *shrugs*

How is more people liking Metal suppose to make our society better? That makes about much sense as Micheal Jackson starting to produce Metal ^^ (Wait that could happen he is getting pretty desperate)

Lets remeber Music is a type of entertainment the reason their are so many genres of music is because not everyone has the same tastes. Music is for dance, some for knowledge and understanding others heh you like the beat or rythme..whatever! No need for throwing insults back and forth at different type of musics because you don\'t like that kind. A quote from the Disney Classic Bambi

\"If you don\'t have anything nice to say, do not say anything at all\"

Something everyone including myself should start doing.

I know their lyrics make sense, I\'ve heard them. I was talking about Dio, sorry if that wasn\'t clear. I never insult a band without listening to them first. I have many songs by terrible bands such as Blink 182 and Linkin Park. I check out bands before insulting them.

As for your second point, what is worth downloading? Besides a Dandy Warhols album, I\'ve only bought music that I couldn\'t download anywhere (Mis-Load, Run Lola Run soundtrack[<--buying this soon]).

How clever and original (<--sarcasm).

It seriously saddens me the way rap has degraded to crap like you hear now. I never liked the genre, but it used to be somewhat respectable. Now it\'s a steaming pile of crap, but know that not all rap is like that.

Well for one, metal was the response for mass selling out in music. It\'s music made for music, so it shows that money shouldn\'t rule every aspect of our life :P

I\'d have to agree with RussianVodka about the rap thingy :P
Maybe I\'m biased against something being called music if it doesn\'t use normal instruments and doesn\'t include singing, but \"rapping\", but hey ;)
And it has slang full of weird namings for guns and drugs... yes, I think it\'s degeneration of our culture...

Ok wait just a minute no all rap has degraded, your right most of it has but their still is a few good rappers out there who don\'t dip into Booty Shaking Hoes and Gangster crap.

As for me listening to rap I did for so long just because I didn\'t want to listen to pop or some of these rock punk bands , I do like LP and nothing ever can change that

same here, in my opinion rock was kinda down for a while, or i was just listening to the wrong stuff. i liked the music back in the 90\'s  just after i was born. 311, pennywise, bad religion, green day... is till listen those bands today

Yes, I think that\'s the distinction. Just like there\'s metal and shitty nu metal, there\'s rap and shitty \"gangsta\" rap.

Depthblade, I respect your musical tastes. OK, I don\'t, but I respect their right to exist. And Draklar\'s right about the metal. Rhapsody is metal for smelly D&Der\'s. Draklar, being a smelly D&Der, enjoys it. If you aren\'t a smelly D&Der, there\'s good reason that you wouldn\'t like it. ;) All metal is a bit \"cultish\", though. Just in different ways.

Nu Metal is not Metal X(

And D&D pfft... get your facts right... Power Metal maniacs are ending up like this: http://www.metalstorm.ee/comics/characters.php#Sven :P
Check Percy while you\'re at it ;)

Imo Demons and Wizards is the best example of nowadays Metal... best way to know what Metal is like, is by listening to them...

and I checked Rainbow\'s Stargazer... hmm... Rock/Metal
well, I liked it, altho\' not something I\'d really get into...

About those earlier Rainbow and Dio talks. If you really feel like doing some digging try finding the Elf album. That was Ronnie James Dio\'s band before Rainbow. I have a copy around somewhere, maybe when I get home I\'ll try and put a few songs up somewhere to hear.

As far as rap goes, most of it is crap now I agree, but there are still a few real respectable and quite good acts out there. Groups like the Roots, who by the way play all their own instruments, or Spearhead or stuff like that. Most rap now though is pre processed garbage that anyone on a street corner can do.
