Title: NPC conversation
Post by: little_bird on September 18, 2004, 02:05:28 am
Hi Folks,

Firstly, congratulations on making a GPL multi-player game!  It looks great!!!

My query resides with NPC conversation - it is extremely tedious as it stands - I have spent many hours \'interrogating\" NPC\'s to no avail.

For example I have been through a multitude of phrases when talking to Rinna and her husband only to be confronted with a loop: ask one for help and the response is \"ask my partner: - repeatedly!!!

I find this most frustrating, to the extent that I am so frustrated that I am close to \'giving up\' on this game - this saddens me as I am a firm believer in GPL software and would like to support your efforts ( to the extent that I am \'close\' to volunteering to be a part of your team in regard to 3d modelling/world design)

Please do not continue in the current manner regarding NPC conversation - it doesn\'t work sufficiently well to make the game playable (please do not hesitate to communicate with me directly - perhaps I can be of help in the creation of a language DB as well)

Wishing you the best of luck for future releases!

Regards,
Little Bird

Greetings little_bird,

Rest assured the developers are constantly improving NPC dialog and expanding their knowledge so that they may be able to respond to many varieties of questions and keywords. Molecular Blue release is 1.5 years old now, so you shouldn\'t consider it the pinnacle of PlaneShift\'s progress in this (or any other) areas. Wait for Crystal Blue, which is due to be released \"soon\", before deciding whether the NPC dialog system is good or no. :)

Not sure this is the best area to have posted, although it\'s one of those rare threads that doesn\'t seem to fit into any category, so nevermind. ;)

If you have any other questions, it\'s probably better to come to the PlaneShift public developer channel, where there are many developers and WTBs who will be happy to discuss ideas and concerns. :)
