So there\'s a death realm for all the people right? But shouldn\'t the death realm be for evil aligned people? I think there should be a paradise realm where there is a bright sun with vast oceans and even with blue skies and clouds you can see stars twinkling, palm trees near the sand. Of course only Talad can allow such people to be in. It would be a place for people who believe in righteousness or are good/holy aligned.
-
Take me down to the paradise city where the grass.... *Decides its better not to sing on public boards* *cough*
Anyway.....
Why does the death realm have to be evil? It will probably end up being the main hang out for every evil and delinquient person in PS but it doesn\'t have to be evil.
Though a paradise realm/plane would be very cool of course there would have to be requirements for entry otherwise every man his dog and his ferret would be living there.

The death realm belongs to noone. It is simply a place you go to when you die, and that\'s it. The fact that a lot of evil people may be down there doesn\'t mean it\'s evil. You\'re thinking more along the lines of heaven/hell, where evil people go one place and good people go somewhere else. PS isn\'t based on christianity, however. All people go to the same place, and that\'s it. Period. :)
-
but why does that have to be it. period.
unless ive missed somthing in the history of and setting text on the main page i dont recall anything mentioning what happens when you die leaving it an open discusion... espechaly in the \'wish list\' forum.
i also think it would be quite nice if the people who\'s alignment is very posative were favoured because not only will it teach a nice leason to the kiddys but every one knows being evil is easy and being good is much harder.
i think it should only apply if your the goodest alignment you can be and anything below is to the DR and to get out it still costs a magical item or a long walk.

The Death Realm is a place of many secrets, with lots of differents world in it.
Perhaps there is a paradise in it...
But no christian stuff eh, or I leave ;)
-
The death realm is inhabitated by the Death God, he is evil and greedy but I don\'t know the realm itself is evil. This seems to remind me of certain other belief systems... and is a nice change.
I think the death realm in planeshift is just a way of keeping you dead for a while because you died (ok that sounded weird). To rephrase - I think the death realm is just a device for gameplay and therefore apart of the planeshift mythos. No doubt my in game character will have a different view on the death realm ;) (shock the first time he goes there).
In line with that I doubt a paradise realm would be added because it sounds more of a permanent residence (afterall why leave paradise?).
But this is the wishlist and I don\'t have anything negative to say about people wishing for a better place after they take their final breath.
-
okay it just a bit unclear...but okay. But there are lot of things that don\'t make sense:
The Death God is a evil and greedy and the death realm itself necessarily isn\'t?
EDIT: (REMOVED) Quote from Djagg: \"....Death realm with lots of worlds in it...\" That answered my question.
If you can live your life and setup a guild in there then how do you experience up in fighting? If you die then what? You go to the living world?
If the Death God is evil/greedy then shouldn\'t there be a death god that is good/forgiving, to create a sense of balance?
P.S: Heaven/Hell is not limited to Christianity. Okay lets avoid the real-life religious talk.

By that I mean it sounds like he can\'t actually do anything to you besides free you if you pay him (swapping an item from the real world to return you there).
But like I said I\'ve never been there, but to me at least it sounds more like a holding place for souls then a evil/hellish place.
-
I think its more like the death god is charged with collecting the dead and delivering them to the death realm. If you can give him something which has the same or higher value for him (ie a magic item - bound mana), he lets you go. If not he does his job.
The death realm itself is something like a world inbetween, over which nobody has much control. You can stay there, you can try to get back or try to get to afterlife. What you do is not the death gods responsibility, even if he may be interested in it.
So your paradise would be a place which you can reach through a gate in the death realm, same for other paradises/hells. If my view is near the devs vision of PS, that may even be a way to connect Ylakium to the origin realms of some of the species.

Hades the Greek god of the underworld wasnt evil and neither was the underworld, it was a place for the souls of the dead (shades) to live.
-
Yes but the greek death god was Thanatos, and he was viewed as extremely evil but he was just death itself. He didn\'t directly influence Hades realm, and strikes me as a better comparasion to the death god in planeshift (funny how a couple of lines of text in the news can cause this much analysis :D). The main difference been with the ps death god you can pay on arrival to be returned to life (beyond that they both are uninterested beyond turning the living... dead).
I also differ on my view of Hades not being evil.
In fact that would be my opinion of most greek gods :) that or they are precursors to modern day soap opera actors :S .
As ruler of the underworld Hades was thought to be a greedy god always concerned with increasing his numbers. Plus after abducting Persephone, he tricked her in order to make her his wife (after ordered to return her). He was also thought of as unpitying, unchanging and terrible.

Well if you are going to class that as evil then I am going to say the Zeus was evil because he raped tons of mortal women (true true.) So I now argue that he is evil :P. If you look at anything then it can be presumed evil. For example I could wear all mosher clothes and carry a BB gun and you could think me evil.

Unless you yourself are god, how could you judge if a player is good/evil anyways? \"Alignment\" is a pretty weak system when it comes to representing a characters goals, aspirations, and ethical peculiarities, and that is only relevant *if* the \"quality of afterlife\" is based on some moral judgement by Laanx or Talad or some other deity. The Death Realm isn\'t necessarily a permanent afterlife anyway - it can be escaped from, so it\'s not like it\'s a pit of damnation. For all we know, the souls of the dead just fade away...

Very good point. The problem of the \"after death\" realm is complicated when there is more then one deity around to judge your destiny.
My question is, if you serve a god thus making another angry, what happens when you die? Are those gods gonna fight for your soul? That way you could end up in one\'s realm of paradise, or the other\'s realm of punishment... That would lead to some interesting religious conflicts, too, as the followers of a certain god would try to make it the most powerful.

Paradise realm...?
Why?
If one were implemented I would just go there and stay.
The Death Realm is -to me- nothing more than a holding area, in this release. Something to keep things moving but not be to much like other games, where you just respawn at a temple or city when you die.
I would suppose that you can get stuck down there for days (or later weeks) before you find your way out. I think it will add an interesting RP aspect though. You could die and stay there to remain dead untill someone resurects you through some interesting ritual (all RPed of course) or just bash your way out and come right back to life. Hey! That gives me some story ideas *makes notes*.
As for an after death realm. Uh...There would not be one other than *Delete*. The Death Realm is where you go if you cannot bribe the Death God to keep him from sending you there. Unless I compleetly misunderstood the news post.
I have to agree that it reminds me of Hadies. All the souls of the mortals in the world get sent there untill they either escape or are freed. The sould of the Imortals go some place else and the Titans, well they are indestructable so they just hang out under Zeuses thumb.
My Mythology is rusty though so just chalk up whatever is wrong with it to age. Maby I sould go do some reading. I haven\'t done that in a looong time. *rushes off*

Why?
because people are searching for a sense of balance in PS.
Property values would go through the roof in Paradise Realm... but I think more then one \"death-god\" is cool, sort of a battle for souls or something. just think, 3 gods fighting over were to put someone in the death-realm. the more people there, the more powerfully they can become, then they start breaching the normal realm, oh what fun scenarios for quests or stories...
Btw, what is the current death-god\'s name?
Is it Death? I\'ll just start calling it \"DG\"

I wasn\'t thinking about a Death God, ruler of the Death Realm.
As I see things, the god you have chosen to serve should have the power to send you in his after life realm. In order to be ressurected you would have to agree to do something for Him/Her/It. There could be different quests, like \"in your next reincarnation you have to convert at least two dwarves to my Way\" or difficult ones like slaying a certain beast in your god\'s name.
And if you fail to do it or you die before acomplishing the task, you could have penalties on your next \"rebirth\", like loss of exp, items, money, etc. Accordingly, those who live \"well\" (and each god may have his own view about what a \"good life\" would be) could gain gifts from the gods.
There could be players who preffer a life without constrictions, who would rather be totally free then under the will of a god. They would have no afterlife quests to do, they would live in their own ways but also they would not beneficiate from the \"godly gifts\".
And there\'s something else, not neccesarily connected to the \"death realm\" issue. How much power will a god have? I was imagining a system where the power of a god would be sustained and amplified by the number (and level of experience) of his believers. That would lead to interesting religious wars, I guess. Also, it will amplify the role playing part (wich suffers so much in mmorpg\'s) because basically every player could create a god to believe in, a religious dogma and so on, but the new created god would have no power until the player brings more followers. That would encourage players to become more inventive and more implicated.

Paradise, your name is npcroom.

Greek gods were immoral, filled with power, lusting and corrupt beings... they are fallable (in fact only one god I know of I really consider \'good\' and he was punished for it).
Zeus seduced the women (I don\'t remember him raping anyone although other gods did; In the tales I\'ve read and can remember the words seduced not rape were mentioned so I\'m not sure) mostly in the form of an animal (to hide from his wife). So it must have been his godly/animal magnetism that over awed those being seduced then again I\'m not sure. So at best he is an serial adulterer at worse a serial rapist... not the what I\'d consider good qualities.
Funnily enough though this all has no relevance in regards to his brother Hades nor any at all to Thanatos nor to the death realm. Moving on to the remark about your style of clothing : Its not the clothes you wear nor the BB gun you carry its what you do with them and the intent behind the actions (actions/intent not looks).
Now the idea I was trying to get across was the death god and the death realm seem separate. The Death God (DG) appears to deal in death, but once your dead and refuse him payment he has no business with you. Now forgetting he is a god and all that comes with that (ie we assume he is powerful for a start).
An example abstract idea, he is the ferry man and you are already in the land of the dead. He will carry you across the river Styx back to the land of the living for the price of one magic weapon. If you can\'t pay or refuse you can find your own way across. Simple Enough?
\"The Death God, being evil and greedy, asks a magical item to bring him back to the world of the living. If he refuses or has nothing to give, he is thrown to the Death Realm.\" <- I\'m only going off this after all.
*edit* cleaned some typos, spaced it out a bit for easier reading and added the last paragraph */edit*
