Title: getting the levels for use in modelling package
Post by: gastr on September 22, 2004, 04:12:38 pm
just wondering if the levels for planeshift are available somewhere in some kind of format that i can use in a modelling package (the crystal space format would be fine)?

do they come with the \"full source and art\" download?

i ask because i want to use one of the levels in my uni project which is a 3d game rendering engine (very simple) that uses portals and hence crystal space levels would be ideal.

is there somewhere that i can download just the levels alone without having to download 90MB worth of stuff? alas, i have dialup internet only :-(

thanks,
-Luke

If i\'m not mistaken the art and thus levels/maps would all be under the PS license and thus protected from free use (not really open source).  While the code for the game is gpl the models and art and levels are not so I don\'t believe you can just use them in your project without expressed permission from some very important people on the team.  Although if you just wanted to see a level to get an idea on how they work and are put together without actually using the PS content then the team seem like they are really nice and understanding so if you ask nicely and have lots of patience (they are very very busy) then they might point you to the right place.

I could be wrong about being able to use the levels (and somebody please correct me if this isn\'t true) but I would be cautionary and not use them till you know for sure (even if you do find them in a download section).

hope this helps

Why not use the walktest flarge map?

It has much more things in it than a PS map has because it\'s a testing map

The levels and all art resources are  under the planeshift license and therefore are not free for the taking. if the data will be strictly for personal use (won\'t be distributed with the program) I don\'t think the devs/art team would have a problem with that. the world file itself is inside the directory ... > Planeshift > art > world > .zip

it is in the CS xml format

and yes, flarge would be a much better generic test level

Hmm... I think you need to look again. MB has more than 40-45 megs of map files too.

I think you are looking in the wrong place for the levels. They are a lot more zipped. The CB levels are more then 100 megs zipped.
