Title: A few Suggestions
Post by: InuTracy on September 26, 2004, 08:05:33 am
Well, I started playing this for one day and I liked it but I have some suggestions, sorry if theese have aleady been posted I didn\'t feel like looking every single one up and see if it has already been posted.

I think the moving system doesn\'t feel comfortable, the free look system should be default and perminent it is incredibly good way to move and look around but the mouse sensitivity is a bit to high. It might seem alot like morrowind but morrowind has a kick ass movement and looking system.

My second suggestion is moving in general, you walk to slow and you run to slow. Your running should be your walking speed and you should be able to run slightly faster than that for real running.

Third suggestion for combat is, make it real time that would be cool, yet again I may be sounding like im copying this from morrowind im not, but morrowind demonstrates that first person rpgs with free look and real time combat kick ass.

First person free look should have some kind of cursor instead of right clicking a target to look so you could just walk up to them then when the cursor is over them and it shows their name you can just left click or right click and it sets them as the target so you don\'t have to go into \"mouse mode\" to select them.

Another suggestion is instead of having the chat box, you should have like all the messages appear in like a chat thing bottem left, and when you hit enter it brings up the cursor so you can type, and when you hit it again it says your text then closes it so you can continue moving around.

My last two suggestions are, spend some time on the models it\'s so buggy and sketchy, when you turn you always have one leg in the air you should like move one leg then the other to turn around and stuff like thoes sketchy player model bugs such as jumping too. My last suggestion is crouching you should be able to hit C to crouch and hold it to continue crouching.

Edit: Sorry I forgot some.

If you fall down far enough fast enough you should get hurt.

Maybe when the game is stable and running smoothly without all the walking and stuff bugs, you should come out with a world editor instead of having to use 3d max and all that stuff because 3d max costs money and im not ready to pirate it.

ok help me get this straight, MB is just a demo to preview it and CB is going to be the real game? they should have only one kind of looking, you could have free-look first person, then free-look third person and it would still work out.

MB is pre-Alpha tech demo & CB is sort of a Alpha version, I\'m sure more will fallow...
as for the views, allot of people like 3rd-person view & free-rotation 3Rd-Person including myself. I didn\'t really like morrowwind\'s view, sort of creapy...
But anyway I think they will have improved the views in CB...

as for the Animations & Chars, they have been totally re-modeled & re-animated for a new skeleton system called Cal3D. this will allow smooth movement & transition between animations....

I Want a Real-Time Combat System which is I think what will be implemented in CB. They are going to release it to the public in maybe 2 to 5 Weeks depending on how the closed-Alpha testing goes.  :D

I think it is possible to use Blender (http://blender.org/) to make models & levels, Blender (http://blender.org/) is a free open-source 3D modeling project, there is also Wings 3D & Milk-Shape, but I am not sure how to export levels & models from them but I think it\'s possible.

But I wouldn\'t use any levels you create on an Official Planeshift server because it is considered cheating even if you just want to add something nice. You really have to ask the Dev\'s to see if your level mod is acceptable to use, otherwise you can get flagged for cheating...

here is a tip, people do not like duplicate posts so I would quickly search first. I really do not mind, however many hard-core forum people do.

I don\'t think so, unless they changed their mind about what is on the site...
Title: Semi-realtime.

The combat system could be a hybrid between real-time and turn-based.

A certain real world time could be count as 1 tick, which count sort of as a turn in RPG purpose.

Depedning on a character\'s stat, different action takes different amount of ticks to complete.

Example taking a step requires 1 tick.  Attacking requires 4 ticks, and so on.

Each action also may contain a recovery time.  Taknig a step requires 0 tick recovery, while attacking requires 1 tick to recover.

The target to attack is selected at real-time, and the character continues to attack with his/her default action.  Other actions such as special attacks and magic will be cast as soon as possible (example, a spell is being selected to cast during a physical attack, the spell will only be casted right after the attack is complete).  Some other actions will stop the default action from repeating (like moving).
