Erm... the glass should be shaped like that, not the sand ;D Now it just looks as if the sand moves by magic in a square glass box.

yeah I know that is a bit of a problem.... But I dont know how  to make anything in that shape!

You did it with the sand... :P

*edit* Oh, one more thing. The division needs to be even. Right now you have the top portion smaller than the bottom - real hourglasses don\'t work like that ^^ Otherwise once you turn it upside down, the smaller part will get filled and there will still be sand.

Ahaha, other than that sand could never travel like that, it looks good  :]

well a big part of how an hourglass works is the sand, so if it cant move like that, then it most not be that good. but it looks good, and if you do get the glass shaped correctly, it will look great. keep up the work

this looks better, but its a little hard to see the glass, and i think the sand is supposed to be touching the glass, unless you mean for the glass to be really thick.

Looks a lot better lythia.  Only thing now is that there should be some airspace in the hourglass otherwise the sand would stay stationary :D (Basically airspace slightly over half of the total internal volume, so that all the sand can move completely to one side).

It also needs to be the same both ends. If you turn your hourglass upside down, does it have the same marble surface on both sides? (Not sure whether it\'s just invisible in those pics)

I don\'t know, I kinda like the first one better.  Makes me feel like its some sort of..  Magic hour glass with its own gravitational feilds, splitting where the two heaps of sand meet.  :P

the first one looked better

Though I don\'t know how to do any of this, my opinion is that the first one looked mystical. Like it didn\'t need all that logic stuff in order to work properly, or what Drauka said, it looks like \"Magic\"~

Edit: But the other ones looked great too!

You need to taper the glass, I\'ll show you what I mean with an example I did for a 3dsmax6 Tutorial. It\'s animated, so I\'ll just render one frame. If you make the glass and the sand the exact same shape (clone glass to make sand, you will get a better result.

Here is my hourglass.

Edit: I just realised that Magerranger was referring to this very tutorial. Haha. Great minds think alike? Make sure you taper it in the center, and have the sand modelled only in one half, as there is only enough sand for one half at once, or else it would not work.

Why didn\'t I ever see that tutorial?
oh well, probably because I learned on max4... :D

looks excellent, I like all the versions from everyone...
I sort of agree that the first one looks \"mystical\"

* goes to see if he missed something *
