I have been waiting for over a year and now you say phases? Hmm weird I go on the site everyday hoping to see the new PS, but it is never there. I wonder how come I did not get selected..Don\'t you Depthblade? This sucks man. I am sick of waiting to tell the truth.
EDIT: I always used the name \"Jameschristian\" and \"Nazaar.\" Go ahead and check how long I have been around. I Think the people that have been active and waiting patiently should get a chance in the test.
-
it says you joined in febuary 2004 hello last time i though it was still 04?????did years change and i missed it?? 8o
-
Complaining about it and saying \"No fair, I wanna test! You\'re mean! ;(\" is the quickest way in the world to ensure you\'re never picked for anything. The developers pick whoever they want; they are not obligated at all to pick people who have been around for years. If they want, they\'ll pick complete newbies. It is not up to you, or me, or anyone except the devs.
I think you should be thankful that CB is getting closer now, and if other people can wait patiently for its release, it can\'t be that hard to do.
-
Meh I just want to play the final product, I can wait longer...patience is the essence of greatness.
-
Also I\'d think another reason some oldbies arn\'t picked is because they\'re never here. Jestal, in the past year, I think I\'ve seen about 3 posts from you. I\'ve never seen you ingame, and I\'ve never seen you in the IRC rooms either. It is much more likely that the devs want to pick people they know and can trust, and who are capable of testing in a way which is constructive and easily understandable, to ensure these phases pass as quickly as possible.
-
hahahahah.
Damn having no moderators.
No one knows who the hell you are, that\'s why you weren\'t selected.
-
> I wonder how come I did not get selected
you must be joking ..... LOL
-
I guess I\'m the only one who remembers him...
well actually I remember the \"Jameschristian\"... for behaving awfully n00bish... but don\'t remember in what way :/
oh, and Jestal... look at Kiern\'s registration date, will you?

I think you probably missed the part that about 15 people were invited only.

I\'ve been around for a fairly long time but I can see why luca and the other devs wouldn\'t pick me. (where do I see who got picked anyway?) If someone is worthy of being picked, its moogie. I really NEVER post on the forum\'s anymore... and I only go online once a week. Recently i\'ve gone online more, but sometimes i didn\'t go online for a whole month. Yet I remember the beginning pretty well :) Planeshift is increadible and I hope CB will be a further development of the best set of mmorpg ideas i\'ve seen so far. For those who have been wondering.. I first stumbled upon planeshift 4 years ago when i was about to turn 13, and being an avid 3d modeler and animator at the time I was very happy to stumble on a concrete project such as this.
See you all online!
btw.. has anyone seen Bill around?
-
Dude the only people (in my opinion) that have any right to complain are the mods that didnt get picked. Thats right, MODs didnt even get picked and just cuz you\'ve been inactive longer than others you think you should get in. I have been here since early july and have never seen you until now.
-
as I stated above. I completely agree and do not feel in any way that I should be picked. I apologize for not being clear enough
-
One year?
One freaking year?
Listen up n00b, I\'ve been here for just under three years and I am a moderator and regular in on both the forums and IRC and I did not get into the testing. So do not, I repeat do not start complaining about not being picked.
The people who were selected to test were picked because the devs felt they were the best people for the job. They are not PLAYING CB. They are trying to find bugs and report them so that you will have a fun, trouble-free gaming experience. And yet you complain.
Pretty selfish.
P.S. Venge since the testers can\'t moderate the forums.... -=wink wink=-
-
TORU!
Bill hasn\'t been around since he left, at least as far as I know. :(
Jameschristian! Wait, I think I actually remember that name...maybe not though, I only played for a limited time so maybe it was someone else. Whoever I\'m thinking of is an ass, so eh. Fits.
-
As moogie said, BWM\'ing is the easiest way to put your name out of the question. I for one am suprised that we haven\'t seen more BWM threads before now...
If you lack the patience to wait for the release, chances are you are not nearly patient enough to play a buggy testing version and help the devs debug. Perhaps this will clarify something: The \"chosen few\" are not \"getting\" CB before everyone else. They are simply assisting the devs by doing the things the community would do. Explore the settings and systems implemented. This helps them to see design and layout flaws with the interface, for instance. Some layout or tree of settings would make sense to the developer who implemented it, but testers, who have never seen the interface before are unbiased. And, by the sheer unpredictability of the way people choose combinations of settings, it\'s more likely that problems are discovered. These testers are allowed to see the release art as a reward for their services.
In short, I don\'t think you\'re missing much besides bugs and a peek at the release art.

PS: BWM = b*tch, whine, and moan
-
Thanks for that little note at the end jose, I was about to ask what it meant :).
Anyways, Toru is proof that there are people in the background who are loyal and have been here for a long time but just aren\'t in the foreground because they don\'t make themselves known.
Edit: Tangerine, 15 people got chosen? I\'ve heard 2 Fragnetics guys are there to represent Fragnetics (of course) but only about 7-8 Planeshifters...
-
Toru what I said wasnt aimed to you. Sorry if I made you cry :P

No No NO! No one has the right to complain not players, not mods, not ANYONE! The devs pick who they want because after all you didn\'t create this project..they did! Not you or anyone else has the right to tell a Dev whats what, especially new people. So just settle down all you whiners, complainers and just let the work that needs to be done, get done!
Then we can all join in the fun together once its ready for us!

Remember that the term \"release art\" includes all the new areas and models, etc. Part of our testing is looking at models and level design and pointing out the flaws and bugs in those also.
-
In fact, the only things you are missing are art and the server database (containing things like settings).
You\'re perfectly welcome to test the engine from the CVS repository. You will probably find the same bugs that they find. The rest of the bugs are those that come with release issues. For example, testing the updater needs to be done in a release environment. They also need people to test the gameplay.
So what if the selection process is undemocratic? The PlaneShift project can do whatever it wants. They chose to make the code (engine) GPL. They chose to make the art closed, under a proprietary license. Now they choose to select people for testing--testing the game as a whole, engine + art. And in fact, they already had a loyal base of players in the GM\'s that were selected earlier. So it only seems logical that these proven loyal players test the closed alpha.
Whether you have been waiting a year, two years, three years, four years, or 1 month, just wait another few weeks and we will all be partying in Crystal Blue.
If nothing else, you should thank them for ironing out the bugs you will face. Let\'s hope we have a great release.
-
you know what, I really was going to add that :P but then I decided my post was getting to a comfortable length so I stopped. Apparently it was still too long for iceeey.
I suppose one thing that may have been found was that that darned dwarf kept stabbing himself in the throat... hopefully that has been fixed.

I see nothing wrong with the dwarf\'s actions... :baby:

i think we may be able to celebrat the new year in cb, and i can wait that long
ps.yes, i mean new year as in 2024

What I would do for the 2nd or 3rd phase is select @ least 5 people randomly, make a signup sheet then have the computer randomly pick @ least 3 to 5 or more lucky people & then no-one will say it\'s not fair, becouse they would have had a chance to test. but is really not up to me...
-
but is really not up to me...
That\'s right, which is exactly why it\'s not gonna happen.
-
i like the devs choosing, more organized, dependable, etc.

Hmm you may have mis understood me. I was saying that no one should be complaining. And that aendar, xenia, and golmir deserved to.... look for bugs :P what fun

It\'s amusing to see how people react in the forum\'s to the final message of release and closed testing. I\'m not saying it wasn\'t foreseeable.. but it\'s still interesting.
-
I find it an utopia to think of a selection process without the dissatisfaction of many of those that were left out. Fortunately enough, it seems that the community of PlaneShift has, in its majority, been significantly mature about the closed testing of the new release.
Realise, for all of those that \"BWM\" about not being picked, that it is ultimately the developer team\'s choice. It is their divine right, for having created the idea of the game and given it tangible shape.
Not to mention their admirable efforts as voluntary and unpaid developers.
There is no room for complaining, because they can do with their creation as they deem appropriate. They can limit who tests and who does not, as they can limit if willing to do so the number of players in the game once it is released. And even then, we cannot complain. We will always play by their rules (and rightfuly so) and if you do not agree with them, then I am afraid there is not much else to do.
It is more than enough that they go out of their way to allow the players to participate in EVERY stage of the process of development. Be it via forum, testing, or IRC. They could as well limit their public relations to the website and continue their work behind closed doors and at a comfortable pace, without allowing us to intrude.
Nonetheless, it is amusing - and commendable - to see how many people jump in the defense of the staff whenever someone is unreasonably demanding and selfish in regards to these matters.
Patience, as it has been said, is a godly virtue.

Toru wow ... welcome back :P
Golbez! Oh man please add to your profile your AIM, MSN Messenger or Yahoo Messenger \"screenies\". I really really have to talk with ya :D
About this problem here, I really can\'t understand why the he*l you\'re crying because you weren\'t selected. And you also say you\'re \"old enough in here\"! haha ...
I really don\'t think I see your type to test the new version, I remember how you were in here.
Anyway, do like us ... consider the boards here the actual game, role play in here, and play the game when the final version (I don\'t think there will be one, but the 1.0 is good) will come ...
-
-_-
The devs are always right.... full stop, underlined several times and made a sticky... so stop complaining.
Like it or leave ;)
-
Hmm, I wonder how many people posted in here so that devs will say \"look at him, he has the right idea, lets let him in the next one\" :P
Everybody knows they wanted in, whether they admit it or not, and many believe they deserved to be in. This person just had the...whatever to say it.
I will admit I wanted in, but then I heard that they play for at most 5 minutes before being dropped.
Stop complaining...and complaining about complaining....
Everybody just shut up :D

This is an important point. While it is very nice to be able to see the CB art and all that in advance, keep in mind that testing is hard work. CB is not stable at all and the testers have to actively help us find out what\'s wrong. That means we ask them to do test runs of specific things we want to test. When all of you are going to use the final released CB you are all going to get a MUCH better version (and much more stable) then what these testers are facing.
Greetings,
-
Well said, Jorrit. And on that note, I believe this topic has run its course now, so lets lock it up. :) As always, if anyone thinks they have a very important point to make here, please PM me.
Thanks. :)
