Title: Guilds Creating Their Own Guild Halls...
Post by: Caed on October 03, 2004, 11:58:15 pm
Will guilds have the ability to create their own guild halls, so that they can customize them to their own needs.

Then send them to the planeshift group for checking, so that no silly ideas are put through and placed in stupid places.

Then the guild can pay and describe where they want it placed which the planeshift world editors can do and everybody has a quick update and sorted...

If this is the case, would 3d max work for the creation of the guild hall?

This is a long term type goal I think.  It would be cool for people to design their own guild halls for inclusion.  3D max is ok for this since we have tools to convert to Crystal Space format for maps.  However, like I said this would be a long term goal and there is nobody working on this yet ( or for the near future anyways ).  But go ahead and make some guild halls.  The better they more inclined we would be to include them in the game.

Ok, thankyou for the quick reply, I\'ll see what I can make, though as you have said, it will be a long time before results are made.

Best for my guild to firstly sort out what they want.

Then there is the need for textures...

Someone else would need to texture, never got the hang of that...

We could have a set number of guild hall that can be rented out to guilds.

I propose a compromise.
A set number of guild halls will be available to be rented out, while guilds may produce their own halls via 3d-apps, provided they are in an acceptable format, to present to the developers for possible inclusion.  Allowing for guild-production of halls will bring a greater variety of structures, while dev approval ensures quality.  Allowing renting out of structures ensures that guilds without the necessary talents will not be left out completely.

Meh I will not need one in the near future but it would be nice to have...gathering in a field, roof, kada\'s tavern seems fit for me!

Well said Monketh.

Here\'s a few \"rental\" scheme I suggest for the guild halls.  Also a differences could be as follow.

Universal (guild or no guild):
1. Limited storage space.
2. Bank (for guild money storage).

Guild Halls:
1. Contains a general store selling discount items (runes, spell ingredients, potions, etc.)
2. Free repair service.
3. Some other stuff.

Rentable, city guild halls.
1.  A guild could bid for a limited contract.  Say 10000 gil for having a guild hall for three month real time.  When a contract change hand, the former guild hall owner has up to a month to pickup their stuff.

2.  A guild could rent a guild hall.  Which they\'ll have to pay a certain amount of money every time period (maybe a monthly rent).  Which means the guild might have to charge a sort of membership fee.

Player built guild halls.
1. Constructed by anyone.  These guild halls could be sold or rented out to guilds.  However, these guild halls would deteriorate over time, which means the guild will need to hire a carpenter or two to keep it in shape (if its a rentable, the upkeep cost is deducted from the rent).

2. Contracted by guild.  Same as above.  Except guild gets first ownership.

Because the implied need to have a continuous income for guild.  The guild could charge a membership fee overtime.  Of course, this would require that the formation of guild would be beneficial.  I decided to post this as seperate post so it can be more in depth.

Why not just have movable furniture?
you can purchase furnishings from carpenters & place them anywhere in the guild hall, also change the wallpaper, or to get around bandwidth & downloading issues, you can have the guild setup a package of custom textures for wall-paper & such in a separate folder in the PS directory, it would be a downloadable pack of textures & maybe 3D models (later...) there is the thing were guilds may mod the art to make there hall bigger... I wouldn\'t really want a guild Hall designed by someone else, that\'s why I think they should be customizable in-game. move furniture & change drapes.

I think there should be Buildings you can rent that only your guild can go into, like you get a key for joining the guild or somthing... there should be vacancies that you can go into & hang out... like abandoned buildings you could make a hang-out that you do not pay rent, however, if you do not someone may buy it & tare it down & you wouldn\'t have any say... like a band of bandit\'s secret hideout or somthing... there should be lots of potential buildings, I am guessing you would need @ least 1 for every 3 guilds @ least, & extra abandoned buildings you can hang out in...

That gives a new job, Locksmith, they can also pick locks maybe?

It\'s more realistic if there are bare buildings & you just have to put stuff in them. I\'m sure if someone made the inside of a building the devs would consider it already...

I just think there should be insides of buildings to start & guilds will naturally make some of them Guild-Halls.... :]

I don\'t see, Planewalker, why guilds that go to all the trouble of creating their own guild halls to a good quality or better should be punished by having to repair their home, they should pay the original fee for the land they are putting it on, the to pay for builders, wait say a couple of weeks to a month depending on the size of the hall and then they can move in...

The addition of hiring carpenters would add to the developers load anyway...

Good ideas for the hiring though, but it might not be popular with many for the expense and the time limit...

The upkeep is just there to prevent guild halls from cluttering the map when the guild that build them become inactive.

Or instead of monetary upkeep, the guild hall could have the requirement on the number of minimum members that a guild must have in order for the guild hall to maintain its quality.

Guilds like mine who are active but few in number would be out of the running then.
A \"legal\" definition of inactivity would help to solve this issue.  But it\'s also something hard to define.
Title: gots an idea!

well good ideas may be that for EXAMPLE

renting costs 500 gold per week
and actually BUYING costs 5000 gold
if a guild disbands or any other reason, the leader may delete it by going to guild menu ( if there is one) clicking on delete and after 3 or so confirmations becoz of maybe having so many guild members dunno wats happening. before deletion there is a little comment box and once the leader confirms a letter will be sent to every player that is in that guild\'s inbox to tell them that the guild is deleted and leader msg will show on bottom to give reason.

guild house should have, hired npc guards, or the guild members themselves, once a non guild member attempts to enter another person\'s guild house the door will not open ( there will be a door right?) and that may block the other guild members but they are able to go through antyhing that is JUST before the door.

leader or co leader or high ranking guild member may allow non guild members to enter.

guild house will have their own money donation that members donate to the house and may ONLY be used for the house, the leader may, upgrade, hire bodyguards, dining room and kitchen(health replenish), training area(for becoming stronger, but not as fast as killing real monsters and will not gain levels so ppl will go out and kill monsters)

Furniture! really no point to it, but i guess a couch or a chair for ppl to sit and chill. wow i typed alot.

i hope ppl can actually bother to read this. hehe

You do know that \'gold\' as such is not a currency in Planeshift?

Obviously not...

Guild Bases are over rated, sometimes forming your guild together in a alley/field/ tavern is twice as fun!

Personaly I think that guild houses in cities should be rented only although I think that outside there should be no restrictions.

What about tracking guild activity automatically if no-one from the guild walks into the guild hall then the hall gets re-possessed by the city & goes up for auction. maybe there should be a sign-in sheet & if you do not sign-in @ your hall once every 3 months then then it goes vacant until you sign in or another guild buys it.

Also a guest book would be nice so you can track guild activity... :D

Feal free to add to this...
