I did a search for this and couldn\'t find anything, so forgive me if there is a thread concerning this that I couldn\'t find.
I would love it if some sort of scripting could be invented so that there could be live events. Something like a siege of a town, or an evil villain that takes an NPC or two hostage, and PC\'s have to rescue, etc. I think it would add a bit of an element of realism and excitement to the game. While this is not an original idea, other mmorpg\'s tend to not take too much advantage of this.
Obviously there would need to be a way to bring models and sprites in with pre-determined goals and behaviors, but if successful I think it would be a great addition to the PS feature arsenal.

They are thinkin of putting in random monster hunts....

He means like random monster army attacks on a city. I really like this idea and I think it could work out great to keep variaty and keep us occupyed. Maybe there could be a story that goes with the events?

I really like this!
but only if a lot of Gm\'s or Dev\'s lead the hunt/quest whatever... that way the Dev\'s will get to play more & make it a big event... maybe special quests spawned by Dev\'s with good items, sort of a contest maybe? or something.. I envision everyone fallowing Talad around in a big crowd of ppl trying to catch up while running through the woods... :D
Maybe to introduce a new monster the Dev\'s can spawn a really big & strong version of it that lots of people have to work together to kill, then it spawns some things after killed, but it would be strong enough that you need a group of @ least 15 ppl to kill it. stuff like that...
more of things you need a large group for, & it rewards many ppl... not just one lucky one. it would encourage RP if you need a group of ppl. maybe items that you can only hold one of @ a time so you can\'t pick them all up... ppl will make multiple chars for picking up rare items, however they probably will be all snatched up by the time they can get another Char...

Most likely, yes. There wouldn\'t just randomly be a massive army of skeletons attacking a city, I think there would be a bit of development up to the attack on the city. These events would be one-time and would possibly give out special and unique rewards (not necessarily items). I think this helps keep things exciting for higher level players who have seen and experienced most of what the game has to offer, and also helps draw lower level players in.

That would be awesome! Imagine minding your own business in the armory when a hoard of Kal\'thi warriors come marching through the gates killing newbs with one hit. It would be awesome for roleplaying as well. You will actually be surprised.
I don\'t think a story needs to go with it, just every once in a long while (these things would be rare) a hoard of monsters decide to assult the city.
-
i think a story would be good because it would add a background and make it more interesting.
what if there were rival cities that randomly decided to send catapults and stuff to other cities? for instance someone who lived in city A would find like a group of people and catapults and stuff and would attack rival town B and the people who lived in town B would have to stop them or something. and maybe town B could call ally town C for assistance, then city a calls ally D and the whole world of planeshift gets caught in a humongous rumble consisting of all the towns..
this isnt really random, but i think that would be cool, esp. the rival cities and stuff. maybe people could operate catapults and other siege stuff so there would be a skill that you would need to learn to use a catapult, and impoving the skill would +range, +dmg, + speed etc
-
Well that would probably be guild wars, however there probably isn\'t going to be wars between peoples (only guilds) however I would strongly recommend Dev/gm lead planned (or secret) events like a large amount of Skell\'s come invading a city & one of the Dev\'s shows up as a hero & leads the battle against the skells... etc.
-
Or devs could take control of the mobs. That would be even more fun.

I think a story can be incorporated behind the attacks, yet not with every specific attack so it would still be unexpected. They just need a background as to why these hordes of creatures attack the towns randomly and that should give them a blanket large enough that they can have these events and catch everyone off guard.
I remember my most memorable night playing EverQuest. I was in a zone hunting with a group from my guild when suddenly a zonewide message came up from the voice of a character (normal PC\'s can\'t do zonewides, a different kind of shout) predicting everyone\'s doom or something. Then two giant spiders with crazy names came and mowed through our group! It was obvious at this point that this was a GM event (live event). Especially when I respawned and hadn\'t lost any exp. I ran back to the zone, and was followed to my corpse by one of the two spiders. I knew I would never stand a chance, and that I wouldn\'t be penalized for dieing, so instead of fighting or running I gave it a /rude (rude gesture) over and over. In the end it took a pretty descent sized horde of really uber characters to bring the spiders down. And as it turned out I got the loot from both spiders! 99.9% of all EQ players, uber or not, have never gotten GM loot. While the loot wasn\'t really anything incredible, just the fact that I got it from a GM event is pretty special. I split the loot with my group, and gave away a wedding ring to a stranger who was getting married in game. Afterward I got to meet the GM\'s who were controlling the mobs and I thanked them profusely :P I\'m not really a fan of EQ anymore, but I must say that that event was hella tight! Anyway, it\'s stories like these that you want to create good publicity about your game, and IMHO PS should definitely take advantage of it. Sorry for the long post.

edit: I forgot that you guys probably don\'t know what a mob is :P Mob is short for \"mobile object.\" It comes from MUD games back in the day. It basically means any sort of monster or NPC.
