Title: Phase 2 Starting.
Post by: Talad on October 16, 2004, 05:15:13 pm
Hi,
alpha testing Phase 2 is starting. We need 25 people. We decided to choose them in this forum.

The prerequisites are:

- You should not be one of the people that participated to Phase 1 (Phase 1 testers will be automatically in Phase 2).
- understand that is NOT done for playing, but for testing, so the overall experience will not be fun as playing a game. You will help us debug the problems, so can be boring.
- a good internet connection that enables you to download around 200Mb in less than 1 day.
- possibility to dedicate at least 6 hours in the next week to testing
- a windows or linux machine with average hardware and average video card or better
- have lot of patience. Beware that we are still experiencing bugs, server may not be available all times, devs will not ba able to answer all your questions. Also the game you will play will miss some of the features of the final CB release.

If you do not met the above please avoid to submit your name.

If you met the requirement above and you want to participate in the testing, just reply to this message and write your email address in the message. We will send you a message with the details of the download.

You will have the possibility to create many chars, so you don\'t need to get two slots. Avoid posting 2 times or posting 2 email for the same person. We will track IPs, so you will be discarted.

Only the first 25 replies will be considered.

Testing is a priviledge, not a right, and sometimes that priviledge is based on luck, rather than who you are. Besides, I think Talad knows what he is doing, Xolon. :)

It is a strange and rather unconventional way of selecting testers. After all it does fit into the Planeshift-Style :D

Well good luck on testing all (those 25 actually) - ensure that we get CB in no time (like now :D).

Well, personally I\'d have to say that privileges are earned, lotteries are luck. Having said that, however, I have no intention of flaming the devs.

And although like 20 people have said this already: If for some strange reason (that will never happen) you end up needing another tester, count me in.

Yes it does.  They signed up on the forums just so they could post and get in.  And you will never see them on these forums again.

It\'s stupid, but there\'s nothing we can do about that.

Well, personally I\'d have to say that privileges are earned, lotteries are luck.

I need to totally disagree, just look at kingdoms, wealth and aristocracy, not to even talk about nationality (which, at least in some countries, yields excessive privileges). Neither of these are earned, they completely rely on luck. :P

Oh, and maybe these newbies, as Opie has indicated, aren\'t such newbies at all, maybe they just lurked all the time. At least they have actually read the forum and did even post to the appropriate thread... Just think of what would have happened if the testing would have been announced on the main page... millions of \"I want to test\" threads, all started by n00bs who didn\'t even bother to look for the official thread. ;)

Heh, let us hope the testing lasts a very short period, I doubt that people who have left planeshift for a while or who just found the game would stick around to test a game with about 3 people online at a time...

This wasn\'t really the best way of doing it...I don\'t mean to flame the devs but...having the alpha testers nominate people would have been a better idea.  The alpha testers would have nominated people they know to be reliable, loyal and creative.  Doing it this way has left us with many completely unknown people in the test...I will not be surprised if they stop testing after the first few days...come to think of it I will probably pull a nice \"told you so\" act.

Anyways, I could never have been in because my computer has decided that fragnetics does not exist...fun stuff.

ROFLMAO! I\'m totally sure that there will be several bugs left for me to find. There always are, and I usualy just stumble accross them (OK, somethimes I\'ll also push it a bit by trying things that are unlikely to have been tested :D ). So I\'ll get my share of testing anyway. I just don\'t know if this is bliss or a curse...
