Title: I've written a quest.
Post by: Tapo on October 17, 2004, 03:28:17 am
This is a good quest that would have players learn more about the land. It is more intermediate-advanced range. I think this will be really cool if you incorporate it into the game. Just think, in a few years or so when Planeshift is the new world power, I could say, \"Hey, you know, I wrote this quest.\" =) Well anyway, here it is.

P.S. The parentheses are out of character notes, and some notes for devs.

Quest for the head of the Orka Queen

In this quest, you come upon a strange house, out of the way of everything else. (In a city, any conveniant one will do) The tormented man will be reluctant to open the door if you knock. He starts to cry... something about an Alpha Party. Anyway, there are many things you must do. After some thinking, you will come back to the man with new info in your head. He will tell you a story about the Alpha Party. It is about how they were a recon group, went to map a mountain, but near the summit, the Orca Queen, Queen of the vile things, slaughters the party. In the party, were the man\'s closest relatives. He tells you to bring the head of the Orca Queen for his revenge and he will give you a bunch of money. Also, at the start, he gives you a compass that automatically points you north. (These 2 things are the rewards.) You head up the mountain, and after many tricky and pretty thought-involving puzzels, you make it to the Queen. You kill her, take her head, and bring it to the man, who in turn will pay you. Congrats, you have completed the quest.

Some reqs to beat this quest: Magic reqs, combat reqs, knowledge of the PS land, and a brain for thinking.

Edit: because of Moogie\'s Lesson, I have decided to take down most of the info for the quest. Anyone important that is interesting in seeing the whole thing, you can PM me.

it\'s okay...I mean this would be a quest for beginners because its a simple find the enemy and kill him. More advanced quests require higher progression of skills to actually complete the quest.

Sii finally yeah, good beginner quest.

I beg to differ, I didn\'t mean it to be a SIMPLE search and destroy quest. While I didn\'t mean it to be hard either, to beat it you need to know a lot of things and places PS (where things are, what to do, etc), magic reqs, combat reqs, and 4 puzzles. So its not like go up there and kill him. There is actual thinking involved.

101 Ways to Not Get Your Quest In Planeshift

Lesson #1

Reveal the entire thing on a public forum.

Well ya... I did think about that, but this IS a wishlist, and how else can I post up my whole idea without revealing the half of it. Plus I would think that a good like 70% of the PS users aren\'t on the forums. And, even if this quest really gets incorporated into the game, I am positive it will get done and a walkthrough will def get posted on some PS site.

Posting quest answers anywhere is against the rules, so it won\'t happen on any big fansites. If you have a quest, keep it quiet and tell it to the devs, rather than posting here. Like you said, this is the Wishlist... that doesn\'t mean you post complete ideas. This forum is just used to pick up bits of suggestions to aid the Settings team in coming up with their own unique stuff.

That\'s just how it goes, sorry. I\'m only saying it because you seem to have spent a lot of time working out all the little details of your quest, and now it will never get used because people already know about it.

As you see Moogie, I have taken your advise and have edited the quest. There are only 99 views and most of them are mine. So only a small fraction saw it. I bet even less read it cuz of its length. So hopefully I still am not disqualified.

P.S. where can I talk to the devs privatly about my quest? : \"If you have a quest, keep it quiet and tell it to the devs, rather than posting here.\" (Moogie)

There are usually devs at the public developer IRC channel on freenode..

I guess I can\'t convince you. I\'ll let the devs tell you instead. :)

I don\'t think you did anything wrong except now you know how to submit a quest.  I\'ve written a few quests myself and submitted them on a closed forum on the tree castle project.  They have a limited viewing audience.

You seem reasonably enthusiastic and have a fairly good imagination.  Just because this one didn\'t work out for you doesn\'t mean you should stop.  I\'m pretty sure you\'ll come up with other quests so go for it.  If you come up with enough good ones try joining the development team.  There you\'ll be able to submit them and get some reasonable peer review.

Where can I submit to closed forums?  And how can I join the dev team? just send them an email?

AS for joining the dev team, they won\'t even review applications until after CB is out, so don\'t bother yet.
Do as Moogie suggested and got on IRC and ask them where to submit quests, but don\'t submit that quest, it\'s gone now.
Moogie, is there a method of submission for quests?
also...

No disrepect/flame intended but if they get ideas from here, nothing they devise from here can be called their own unique work... No offense, but credit where credit\'s due.
