About four weeks ago, I was sparring with a newly found friend (I met \'em in wal-mart actually; they had a japanese shirt on, I had to comment). I had no idea that she was a 2nd degree black belt, and me, having only 9 months martial arts training, found myself horribly out matched. Anyway, she blocked a punch so quickly I didn\'t have time to adj;ust m;y motion and to cut a long story short, I fractured my right thumb on her hand.
And just last night, I was playing dodge ball with some friends and one of \'em managed to land on my LEFT thumb with the toe of his boot after a 3-foot high, 6-foot long leap in the air, in an attempt to get the ball away from me. The funny thing is I still got the ball and proceeded to pelt him. Very hard.
The moral of this story is wear metal gauntlets all the time, ask your sparring partner just how hard and how often they train, and dont stick your hands under moving 16-year-olds.

i\'l stick my hands werever i want to stick my hands.
-
I\'ll draw my own conclusions thanks.
For instance:
Don\'t fight girls, you\'ll never win.
If a bunch of guys are running around throwing stuff at each other, someone\'s gonna get hurt.
Fighting was invented to inflict pain. If you\'re fighting, prepare to hurt.
Don\'t leave your computer, it\'s a dangerous world out there.
-
no no.
you always win when fighting girls, unless your a weakling.
you just dont fight them.
-
No, fighting girls is never a good idea.
First of all, guys fight to impress others or themselves. girls fight to kick your a**, so expect some bellow-the-belt shots. x.x
-
Heh yah good tip NEVER FIGHT GIRLS not because they will kill you and go hard just because you never hit girls ^^ If I was to ever remeber one lesson my parents really pushed hard for me to abide by its never hit girls or fight them...unless ofcourse they are trying to kill you :)
-
eah, i had a friend who broke both his arms in one day ..
rain+basket ball+outdoors = bad idea
i personaly broke one of my kunckles from falling down a flight of stairs.
and again no the moral of the story is \"Remember murphy\'s law(s)\" !
-
I prefer my conclusions, and obviously they work, because I\'ve never broken a bone in my body. Well, ok, there was this one time when I was five years old and got hit by a car and it broke a couple ribs and my pelvis, but that\'s not really the kind of injury we\'re talking about, now is it?
-
I can safely say that I have done a tone of crap that should have got me killed and never broken a bone but then I am Clark Kent in RL so I guess that all works out...lol...No really I have never broken anything and I have had some wicked falls, we are talking like 30 feet to the pavement and stuff like that.
Fighting girls is just plain out unless they draw blood...then, all bets are off!
-
Huh. Alright, those of you who have gone on and on about not fighting girls because you\'re not supposed to/they\'re weak/etc...
...Shut up. I won\'t hurt a girl, but I won\'t hurt a guy either. We weren\'t sparring full contact or anythi...well, we were, but that\'s not the point! Girls are people, too, quit acting like they\'re fragile defenseless babies, \'cause guess what, they\'re not! Well, some are, but so are some guys...Merh. I mean, c\'mon, she broke my goddamn thumb by smashing it. Not twisting it or anything, but from a glancing blow. And my bones aren\'t fragile; I fell three stories and didn\'t even so much as sprain an ankle.
Meh, I could go on and on...
Anyway, as a side note, in 17 years of doing crazily stupid stuff, theses are the first two bones I\'ve broken (and within a 2 week of each other!).

I couldn\'t agree more. What about all this feminism stuff if it weren\'t for everything? It is a two-edged sword, and everyone who actually is serious about equal rights needs also be just as serious about equal obligations. So if you start a fight, be prepared to get hurt, regardless of your gender or anything.
Who starts a fight is almost always wrong, because otherwise they\'d be able to win by reason.
Sparring is OK, though.

Humor my dear friend, humor.
Oh, and I\'ve never been in a fight in my life.

Yeah, but metal gauntlets won\'t save you when a 250 lb college football player is trying to tackle you. Ouch... they would have to pry what\'s left of your hands out of the damn things.
Yea and keep your hands away from toddlers. These little dudes love to try out their new teeth on anything :P
-
Well, metal gauntlets may not save you, but if you swing your hands around convincingly, and get *spiked* gauntlets, it may cause \'em to think twice about it. ;)
Still, it was no 250 lbs football player that tackled me...It was a 225 lb track runner. >.>

wouldnt it just be easier to wear a good ol\' plate armor from 1200? :P
-
You can use the rusty old plate armor or better yet, this thing (http://www.improb.com/news/2002/may/troy-new-suit.html) . Although I wouldn\'t be sure if it could withstand a 500kg bear as the inventor claims :D .
