Best Movies? Alright.

Swimming with sharks (circa: 1995?)
Starring Benicio Del Torro and Kevin Spacey. Great movie about a secretary who gets completely fed up with his job and seeks revenge.

City of God (2003)
Wow. Wonderfull movie. It\'s been called the best crime movie since the Godfather. Basically tells the history of crime in a small town called \"City of God\". From 1 small 3 member hoodlum gang, to huge armies of gangs fighting for controll over the city. Excelent story telling. Has subtitles BTW so if you cant read and watch a movie, then look elsewhere ^^.

Pulp Fiction (1996?)
Staring a buttload of famous people (more than I cant count ^^) Now this movie jumpstarted Quintin Tarintino\'s career and brought him mainstream, and for good reason. Wild gun fights, great story line, superb acting, wonderfull production value. It\'s too bad he hasn\'t made a movie that tops this one yet.

Well those are my favorites, can\'t think of many other ones worth mentioning. But I hope you check these ones out, they are awesome X\'D.

Heh IceFalcon I already have in mind the first movie >.> Planeshift the movie hehehe

\"Planeshift\" Guild Wars

Take all the events and fighting and make a movie..now I would pay to see that
Title:
Post by: Olig on October 25, 2004, 04:58:55 am
Hahahaha, please, no planeshift movie. Most movies about videogames out there.... just suck horribly. Mortal Kombat anyone?

I\'ve made a few movies in highschool with some of my friends. We used action figures to create  a spoof of Romeo + Juliet and Aliens. The Montiques were the Space marines, and the Aliens were the Capulets. The family tomb was a star wars trash can. :P Big budget

We also made one that was a combination of Rocky Horror Picture Show and Fall of the House of Usher. It was kind of creepy. Robin was the transvestite and they all danced to the Time Warp.

Both of these movies cameo\'d Rick Flare too, for no reason, just to yell WOOOO!!! randomly.

Ah, good times.

Post by: DepthBlade on October 25, 2004, 05:41:59 am
Awww come on I did alot of movies and music videos in CPT30 in highschool I can do something really good if given the chance :)

It would be based around conflict and nothing but conflicts and it could vary between EVERY guild from smallest to largest and ofcourse it wouldn\'t be made as Phoney as Dungeon and Dragons the movie :P

P.S: Mortal Combat was awesome >.> GET OVER HERE!!!

Title:
Post by: Olig on October 25, 2004, 07:33:29 am
Ok, Mortal Kombat wasn\'t completely bad, but Annihilation was just the worst movie I\'ve seen with fighting in it. Plus, Johnny Cage and Ermac were killed off instantly without any action, and thats bad.

Movies on conflicts are good, but they need a plot in order to keep the combat interesting, or its just purposeless. The only exception I\'ve seen was made by that old show Neon Flux, were they made an episode that was nothing but combat, but there was a twist. It would focus on one person, with his/her own special abilities and qualities until they died, then followed the person who killed them until they were killed, etc etc. It was really cool.  What ever happened to that show? And liquid television?

DepthBlade, you\'re a genius! A PlaneShift movie?  :]
It will be a problem if it will be fully made on the computer? I have plenty 2D & 3D Artists at the company that are basically doing nothing, because some of us have important exams (for our future  :P ). I can give some of their work to see they\'re really good, so ...
... Depth, we can make the story & stuff, and we should start working 8)
Though, we need to work seriously, and also be real with the fact that can least a while.
Title:
Post by: Olig on October 25, 2004, 07:32:35 pm
I\'d much rather see someone make spoofs of Planeshift using Flash, just like Counter-Crap did to CS. If you try to make the movie too serious, it may turn out lame, but do as you wish.

I\'ll have to go with Kiern on this one

Quote
Favorites are Memento and Usual Suspects.

Also, City of Gods (Cidade de Deus)

Le Pacte des Loups is quite cool yes, but mostly because of the manner in which it is filmed with lots of cool effects.

I saw Man on Fire the other day and if you enjoy watching a well made movie, then you definetely should see it.

My favourite movie would mostly be the first Matrix, but only the first. The second two spoiled it :(

The LOTR series was also really good, can\'t decide between the three of them though. Probably the second one ranks closest to best.

My penultimate favourites are the original Star Wars  trilogy. Nothing can touch them.
I have added many to a list of lesser favourites.
Most recently, Saw  and Garden State ...
Directly after Star Wars  however, are Snatch  and Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels.

Depthblade, I disagree with you here...
Black Hawk Down  was not a US glory story, vets say that they were amazed by how accurate it was, and that it was glorified in the typical hollywood style.

There is this thing about me: if I like a movie, I watch it and watch it, until eventually i can recyte most of it by heart, and I can\'t take another minute of watching it for the next year or so. But by looking through this thread, I can tell you the movies that impressed me:

LotR (FotR is my favourite)
Matrix (1st) and Ocean\'s Eleven --> for being original
Jin Roh --> for making me think ^^
Witch Hunter Robin series --> its darkness appeals to me

Ravenous, for the great theme song and nerve wrecking forest scene. And the absurd sarcasm and phrases like : You are who you eat , wich continou to pop up throughout the movie.

Star Trek : First Contact , because i\'m a star trek nerd .

The 13th floor , because it made me crazy and confused me .

Enemy at the gates ( must have watched it 5 times by now ) , love the Red Square battle scene.

Star wars : The Empire strikes back, i don\'t know why , you gots the have a star wars movie in your list .

Evil dead : Army of Darkness , because it was hilarious and the graphics were so bad that it made me laugh .And bruce Campbell rules.

Robin Hood: Prince of thieves, because Robin Hood is my idol and this version is the only good robin hood version out there.

Event Horizon , because it made me feel claustrophobic and the scene where the dude\'s chest gets cut open and afterworths gets hanged upside down with his intrails on hooks is pretty gory .

The cube , don\'t know why , movie just rules.

Oee! yes, Gladiator should be on my list too .

hmmmmmmmmm, thats about it .

ok after some though here is what you were waiting for...

oceans eleven, snatch, gone in 60 seconds any film with that sort of thing with planning and stuff. dont know the name for the catagory.

then anything wiht adam sandler, billy madison, big daddy, mr deeds, happy gilmore (spelling).

i dont really watch films too much, but ben stiller is another great actor, so films with him are good some other random films would include rush hour, forest gump. lord of the rings, the god father blah blah... and anyothers i missed.

and maybe you would like to know i have never seen the last matrix film, finding nemo and shrek two.

I dont like the Lord of the ring adaptation (the books were better really better)

My prefered movie (sorry for the translation)
- the butterfly effect (L\'effet papillon)
- fight club
- a beautiful mind (un homme d\'exception)
- underworld
- forest gump (I loved it before... today I must watch at it again)
- road trip
- les rivi?res pourpres (maybe the purple rivers... its a french movie with jean reno and Matthieu kassovitch but a big super production)

- I liked he beginning of the \"28 jours plus tard\"\'s movie (maybe \"28 days after\"... an english movie).

What I really dislike :
- David Kronenberg\'s movies
- Quentin Tarentino\'s movie

Generally I like the movies which surprise me : the most of the american movies dont surprise me and Im able to tell you how it will finish or who is the killer very quickly... there is no suspens... something like a d?j? vu... its annoying...

EDIT :
the Studio Ghibli\'s movies too

My favorite movie is Shallow Hal. :) It\'s about a really shallow guy named Hal (hence the name!) who can only see the outer beauty in women, and gets a charm put on him by a rich man so that he can see the inner beauty, too. He meets a really heavy-set girl, but he sees her as a beautiful, thin girl. They fall in love, but soon, the spell wears off and Hal can see the real her... It has a sad ending. :(

Sorry about that, got carried away....

My prefered movie (sorry for the translation)
- the butterfly effect (L\'effet papillon)
- fight club
- a beautiful mind (un homme d\'exception)
- underworld
- forest gump (I loved it before... today I must watch at it again)
- road trip
- les rivi?res pourpres (maybe the purple rivers... its a french movie with jean reno and Matthieu kassovitch but a big super production)

- I liked he beginning of the \"28 jours plus tard\"\'s movie (maybe \"28 days after\"... an english movie).

What I really dislike :
- David Kronenberg\'s movies
- Quentin Tarentino\'s movie

Generally I like the movies which surprise me : the most of the american movies dont surprise me and Im able to tell you how it will finish or who is the killer very quickly... there is no suspens... something like a d?j? vu... its annoying...

EDIT :
the Studio Ghibli\'s movies too

Les Rivi?res pourpres / The Crimson Rivers was so good but the dubbed one was so different to the subtitled. If anyone is going to see it I would say go for the subtitled one. (or learn French)

My favourite movie ever:
-- Trois Couleurs: Bleu (Kieslowki)

However, there are a few very close seconds:
-- Lord of the Rings trilogy (P. Jackson)
-- Avalon (M. Oshii)
-- Ghost in the Shell (M. Oshii)
-- Nell (M. Apted)
-- The Piano (J. Campion)

All of them [1] with fantabulous soundtracks, I suddenly notice as I re-read my short list. I guess I\'m sensitive to that  ;)

[1] except for Nell, the soundtrack of which I can\'t recall at all, for some reason.

PS:
I notice several mentions of Requiem for a Dream. I have heard the soundtrack and boy, am I curious to see that! If only I could just get my hands on it...

[Edit: slight spelling errors.]

Can\'t pick one that would be simply the best, but here are some that I\'ve enjoyed and recall in short notice:

-LOTR trilogy
-Neverending story
-the Abyss
-Dreamcatcher
-Commando
-Terminator 1&2
-Total Recall
-Matrix
-Predator
-Platoon
-Kingdom of Heaven
-Gladiator
-Braveheart
-Blackhawk down
-Jackie Chan movies

Weighs heavily on action and adventure genres. :)
Favourite actors would include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Liam Neeson and Jackie Chan.

Oy Vie! , five pages of movies and it did not make anyones list! Unbeliveable!  Heck it took four pages before anyone mentioned Monty Python. Completely unfathomable where have you people been living.

The greatest movie of all time is...

ARMY of DARKNESS

And number two on the list is...

YOUNG FRANKENSTIEN

:))

OK, everyone might not agree with my two choices, but they should have been on the lists.  Oh and I agree Excaliber is a flawless one of kind movie.  Drunken Boxing-The Frail (Jackie Chan) has got to be the best action movie ever.  I hope we are thinking of the same movie.  The one I saw was called the Ledgeon of the Drunken Master ( or something like it) Jackie Chan was in it and he had to be in top form to make that movie.

To name a few of my favorites:

Cube, Cube Zero
Saw I & II
Se7en
Life Of Brian
Quest For The Holy Grail
Alien I & II
Rambo
Exorcist
Evil Dead II
The Shining
Rosemary\'s Baby
The Usual Suspects
Donnie Darko
Twelve Monkeys

Here are some that I think are recent and popular, but VERY over-rated (and I think they mostly suck):

Lord of the Rings 1, 2, and 3
Matrix 1, 2, and 3
Sin City
Anything with Will Smith
Title:

...Ok, here goes.

Star Wars (especially IV, V, and VI, but I, II, and III as well)

LOTR

Oh-To-Ko-Yo: Hide and Seek (I love love messing with people\'s minds and any movie that has the creepiest line being, beyond the shadow of a doubt, \"OOOoone  TWOOooo THREEeeee FOur FIIIIiiive SIIiiix SEven EIIiight NIIIIiiine TEen... Ready or NOt here I come [caps are stressed, lowercase unstressed] is good in my book

The X-Files: Fight the Future (One man can\'t fight the future)

Monty Pithon and the Holy Grail

Invasion USA (It\'s so down right ridiculous it\'s funny [yet another reason Chuck Norris is better than all of us Efflixi])

I\'m kinda shocked that this hasn\'t shown up yet (or if it has that I missed it) but... 2001: A Space Odysee.

And of course one of my all time favorite comedies, Red Green\'s Duct Tape Forever.

Oh, and for the record, I\'ll cause severe mental strain upon anyone who tries to tell me that Battlefield Earth is good.  I read the book...  The movie sucks, gives the book a bad name, and needs to cease existing immediatly.

I love Monty python...I own pretty much every video release they ever made.  I like the flying circus episodes better than the full length movies.

Personally, I like the movies for the first 45 minutes or so....it takes the right mood to be able to enjoy the whole entire thing as much as I\'d want to.  The sketches are quicker and suit my attention span better.
