A search for planeshift+guild in google gave:

1. The Forsaken
2. Ghosts
3. Ordo Illuminatis
4. The Blitzers Guild
5. The Blitzers Guild, again
6. A search result for The Forsaken (just hates when i find search tresults)
7. Sons of the Serpent
8. planeshift.it Guild Rules
9. planeshift.it Player\'s Guide
10. Explorers Guild
11. Rangers Guild
12. Explorers Guild, again
13. Legendary Warriors
14. Arcane Order (Way too low :))
15. Mercenary Guild

phew... Feel free to continue the list if you want.

I don\'t know how interesting this is but I find it strange that the Forsaken is on top.

It all has to do with meta tags my friends... it doesn\'t matter how many times the site is visited or how old the guild is.

Meta tags are codes inserted in a web site that makes the page easier to find, due to some keywords. It\'s often used as a little cheating way to be 1st in search engines as google.
 Here you go an example:




 The thing is that they\'re useless, unless you register your web site in the google database, or at any other search engine.
 PS - To view the code of a web site, let\'s say with IE -> go to View -> Source.

I try to get rid of metatags. Otherwise my school firewall blocks them as soon as it reads \'game\' \'guild\' etc.

Talking about cheating... Have you tried pressing control+A at the intro page with the flash-movie for planeshift? If you do you see several important \"invisible\" keywords in many combinatons at the top. :)

1st of all, I really don\'t think this has anything to do with the Guilds Forums.

 I really don\'t think why they put those words in the \"font\" code. Also CTRL+A = Select all, that\'s why those words appear my dear :)
 Ah, well, maybe they wanted the words be on the 1st page to be found easily by google :D (I mean, all the worlds they wanted to be found with).
 Anyway, nice way of hiding them ;)

 EDIT - I used that too on the old Black Order web site :P
 EDIT II - Err, this is not \"cheating\". It\'s just a fair way to promote something. So calm down ;)

He\'s not refering to the tags ;) ...there\'s text on that page in the same colour as the background - true, that is a dirty old trick, but then again, that also IS the first page of the homepage, and should have on it what\'s it all about ...although I would like to see it in a nicer way :(

I thought it was given that I of course knew that the text was invisible because it had the same colour as the background. And of course ctrl+A is \"select all\", do you think I thought it was some secret command. I am not eight years you know. :)

And I agree with hook, it is a dirty old trick that shouldn\'t be used! Everyone should instead have a good informative text about their site on the first page. But we are getting away from the topic...

Actually, The Forsaken have no -tags with keywords at all while The Arcane Order has excellent keywords with both \"planeshift\" and \"guild\" and has much more members  but is much lower on the list. So it\'s not \"all in the meta-tags\" at all! I am beginning to distrust search-motors. :)

theforsaken was the first .com guild site... its going to be first on the list... we also had a lot of non -ps related pages.... which might have something to do with us showing up on google alot

:) Since they are invisible they aren\'t describing anything, and even if they were visible it\'s just a heap of words and not a readable text. They are just there to make search-motors find the page. Meta-tags with keywords should be used instead! It is a matter of etiquette.

Yes, most likely. And you can\'t trust search-motors to be completely reliable. Once I added every single keyword for a page and still found other totally irrelevant pages before the page I was searching for.

The way they use it is NOT very good! They are using th word \"MUD\" and they are using the same word over and over again to fool the search motors to place it above sites where the words are only used once. There is etiquette surrounding this matter, Annah. Every HTML book/school I have read recommends the use of meta-tags instead of \"invisible\" text and the search motors doesn\'t like it either. The planeshift site doesn\'t even HAVE meta-keywords, what a shame.

And I doesn\'t care if it gets changed or not, why would I? I just think that search-motors shouldn\'t be fooled. It has nothing with PS to do but I hate when i find something just because of its invisible text that isn\'t even completely relevant.

But I agree, lock this thread, this topic is exhausted.
