When Phase 2 will be completed we will have a migration period, in which we will shutdown the MB server and allow players to transfer their characters to the new server. This phase should last no more than 2 weeks. After this the old db will be deleted and we will allow new characters to be created. So the new release will be finally available to anyone. Seems a long process, but while you relax and watch TV, all this is going forward :)
Dumb question but will those of us who have an account on MB be able to play after our accounts are \"migrated\" or will we all have to wait for the 2 weeks after its released to play?

Since the MB server will be shut down, it would follow that no one would be able to play MB for the couple of weeks, so it would seem.

Probably will be so that we shutdown the MB server and the CB test server, then do the migration to avoid DB problems if the server is online.
So you will have to stand 2 weeks without PS

your characters grow wings and it takes them 2 weeks to get to the new land :)

This might be a silly question, but *how* exactly will players transfere their characters to the new DB?

If you check the CVS, you will see a script which we probably will use.
Feel free to test it and check for bugs :)

I heard that you would be able to migrate from mb to cb, so during the migration period, players will slowly populate cb. So you\'ll be able to continue playing straight away.

That\'s what I was thinking, how do you transfer a char without creating one in CB? You need to create one because the Character creation is much different in CB then MB, basically have to redo Char creation only you start with XX tria from your crystal count right?

To be completely frank - I\'m still confuzed.
Let me see if I got the idea:
- in those two weeks both the MB and CB databases will be offline
- there will be a script that the player will run and with its help will move his/her character from one (offline, if i got that correctly O_o) database to the other one and will help him fill in the parts that are missing in the MB character creation (like a surname for instance)
...or am I just plain wrong?

no, the mb server will be offline, and the cb server will be online. You transfer your char across by \'reserving\' the char name while you make your account. Then when you login, only you will be able to make a char with that name.. or summin like that I think. And maybe xtals will be transferred :D

The database servers will be online, and the script is a PHP script ran on the WWW server

Why moving it to the new server?
I mean since you can\'t find the only reaosn I could think of is the amount of crystals you got.
I dunno if CB will add more races to the game, but I might also want a new name for the game so I think I\'m just going to create a new account. I only have like 5 crystals so thats not a big problem :)

it says that it will last 2 weeks then we can create new chars......so i think that means we can play on our old chars and fight and all tht, but until after the 2 weeks we can\'t make any new races....

This means that you need to transfer your character to the new database manually, by using the webpage that is the interface to the php script. The link to this page will most likely be posted on the news page.
There are two reasons to move your chars to the new database:
1) You wish to reserve your name so that you can keep it for CB
2) You wish to transfer your crystals, if they are transferrable at all, which still doesn\'t seem to be decided, but I didn\'t yet look at the script.

were does your character data go if there is no new character created on the CB database?

I acknowledge that this sounds somewhat esoterical. :)
However, it\'s very mundane:
What I think is going to happen is that
- the MB game server will be shut down
- the MB database server will be running
- the CB game server will be running
- the CB database server will be running
- the migration script will be on the website
- the character creation part of the CB server will be disabled
This is the confusing part, I guess, but the difference of game server and database server is the key. While normally (in both MB and CB) the char creation works like this
client->game server->database server
it\'ll now be this
browser->migration script->database server
The normal way will be disabled in the CB server, therefore the CB database cannot be modified through the CB client, i.e., no new characters can be created (also not on the MB database (using the MB client), since the MB game server is offline, probably the MB database is set to read-only as well).
However, existing MB characters can be created through the migration script that bypasses the CB game server and directly accesses both databases.
This way, it is ensured that MB players have sufficient opportunity to transfer their characters without having to deal with CB accounts being created before that, i.e., to prevent name stealing / conflicts.
At least this is what I guess from the (partially contradicting) posts.

Yes. You will only transfer your character if you want to keep your character name. The other 200 000 or so accounts will be deleted and those names will be free once more.

But PLEASE!
When you reserv the name, it will be stored in a seperate DB with your email, and nobody will be able to create an char with that name except you. You still have to create a new char.
So if we are going to disable char creation, you won\'t be able to do anything anyway
And your mail is associated with the account if anyone wonders

Here\'s my drama, I would like my name \'Tyralus\' reserved for me... I would like my crystals, though there are few...
I do not however want the current \'Tyralus\' as in MB...
He\'s an Ylian, I want an Enki...
Is this possible? Or will I need to create a whole new char, with no crystal transfer, and a chance to lose my name?
Edit: I hadn\'t noticed, I became a routinier!

It currently is my impression (and Androgos has confirmed it by his above post) that the only thing that\'ll surely be stored is the name and the email, Additionally, chances are that the crystals might be stored as well (as jorrit has indicated on another thread), but that\'s about it.
Therefore, you can happily reserve your name and probably keep the crystals, but once account creation for CB is enabled, you\'ll go through it just as anyone else, including race selection. The only difference is that you will be the only one allowed to choose the name you reserved earlier, and that probably the crystals will be placed in the finished char\'s inventory.
Edit: maybe your MB selections might be used as defaults for the CB creation (at least the ones that can be converted), but I\'d expect to be able to change everything.

Character creation is quite different so yes, you will have to choose the skills and such all over again.

Yes, it indeed will not, and this is totally in-line with my current interpretation, which has superceded the one in the colorful post.
It now is my impression that the migration period will merely allow anyone to reserve their MB name and probably preserve their crystals. So the CB and MB game servers may very well both be offline. Also, as stated by Androgos, the CB database server will not be manipulated (and might be offline as well), but that doesn\'t matter.
Nobody will be able to create a CB account during that time, as well as an MB account.
After the migration period, you\'ll be able to create an accoutn in CB, just as anyone else. However, on creation of said account, you\'ll be prompted to enter an email address. This is the link to your MB account reservation (at which you\'ll probably be prompted for one, along with your MB password, or the one you registered in MB will be used), and will unlock the name and crystals. You then go on to normal CB char creation, as stated in my previous posts.

Hmm, I understand now, I like this idea, it means that regardless of download ability, people will not be able to play until the two weeks or so are up... very nice.
Enter_the_Xero, you will definitely need to choose skills again, as the MB skills are little more than pretty numbers on a screen, CB actually has skills implemented, and they can increase...
I can\'t wait for the char creation, I always love creating a character, the more options the happier I am.
OT: I want City of Heroes, I hear it has -the best- character creation... It\'s not out here yet though...

I\'ve spent some time combing the CVS for it, but obviously you\'ve hidden it too well for me to find it... :]
@ Adeli: I don\'t mind. It is nice to increase in percieved coolness by gaining a higher PC, but I don\'t have the time to post frequently while maintaining a reasonable standard of quality (not insulting anyone who does have the time), so feel free to rocket past. :]

I REALLY UNDERSTOOD NOTHING !!! I\'m not english and it\'s sometimes hard to me to understand a long text but here as I\'ve the feeling that nobody here really knows what will happen and that the one that know arent here, I\'m lost...
Personnaly if I want to create a dermorian character with a totaly different name without loosing MY GUILD and my xtals what does I do ??? and if the skill chosen isn\'t availlable do I erase my character and wait 2weeks more for character creation ?
And in fact do you really think that it weren\'t easier if people have a login with their MB name for example and 4 characters (with no name confusion with the login) ?
Finally if I want to create another character I must disband my Guild just for that or choose the same name ??? and then some people are choosing CB name with MB name as firstname and some others with MB name as last name. So What do they think ???
For me this thread is a totally confused one so please the ones that answer please be sure of what you say...

Why we didn\'t just create MB -> CB accounts?
1. The account name is your email which needs to be verified, MB didn\'t ask for that and therefor we don\'t have it
2. We have 253903 registered players and accounts as I write this, how many are Link dead accounts? How many belongs to same person?
3. How many guilds do we have? A lot. For you to reserve the guild, you have to reserv your name. You could always have 2 chars and then give the second leader status

Good news I suppose. Anyone want to have a huge MB party on the last day before the server shuts down? Would be a blast IMO.

Alright, in my case, i have two characters.. currently Slatz, and my original Xyko.. id like to reserve the name for both.. however, i dont remember the password to Xyko (see my post labeled Password Woes in Technical Help for more info).. step by step what would i do to reserve the names.. and is it required that i know the pw for the names i want to reserve?

You will have to know their passwords. If you don\'t know their passwords, and you actually own them, and arn\'t trying to steal them, then nobody else will be able to reserve either.

The char of wich you lost the password can\'t be reserved: You can\'t, because you lost the password and nobody else can because others never have know the password.

Please Slatz, out of your 16 posts at least 15 of them have been that you don\'t remember your password. We really get the point. You have been told the only way it might be possible to retrieve this. Follow those directions and if it doesn\'t get you anywhere then sorry to bad it\'s not going to happen for you.
Just recreate new characters with those usernames when you can.

I vaguely recall someone talking about that a while ago.
Slatz, do a forum search for something along those lines, and see if it brings up anything okay?
This is done client side, so it obviously won\'t be in the log if you\'ve never logged in on that computer.

Eh... CB is coming... We doesn\'t matter if he fund his old pasword : look : you just have to play with your new char for 2 weeks and nobody will be able to take the name of your first character and then when the char creation will come you\'ll just have to create it (cause your first char name won\'t be reserved anymore)
So to conclude : don\'t worry !

Wow... if you still have the installed version of the client that you made the account on, it seems that plsclient.txt, in the main directory, should contain something like:
psAuthenticationClient::Authenticate(Rorian,PASSWORD,1)
(and no, that is not my password :P)
All you have to do is open that file and search for any portion of that string (such as psAuthenticationClient)..

The only thing I\'m curious about is whether or not the currency will be transferred over, and from looking at the files, it looks like it. Which then brings up the question, what will be the conversion rate, and so far, at least from what I could tell anyway, it looked 1:1.

AFAIK, it hasn\'t been decided yet. I\'d think they wouldn\'t due to the huge amount of hacked xtals going around, and certain guilds using hacks to get their guilds rich in only a few months. <.<
But you never know :)

Due to all the cheating going on I\'d be wary of converting 1:1.
I have a certain feeling that tells me you might be in for a surprise. If I were a dev, you\'d definitely be in for it. :D

this question might of been asked and answer, but their is way too many replies to read to see, but how can I transfer the character myself? Does not make sense. I really wanna keep my character but I don\'t want it to get deleted if I can\'t figure out how to transer, can someone help me?

Well I dont think cystals should be transferd. I think it would be better for everyone to have a fair start. I have a nice mountain of crystals myself but Id be willing to let them go so everyone had a fair start.

Even though I myself have a handful of hard one crystals I agree with Efflixi Aduro every one deserves to start on the same foot when cb is released to the general public

I have in total 6 diamonds, not much I know.
I think they should get to keep them, but not at 1:1.
Think of all the people will 10k+ diamonds... I seriously doubt people\'s ability to find that many. No offense intended if you legitimately did.

What I fund odd is that dev said \"We know who are cheating !\" but after they said that it\'s possible that the crystals won\'t be transfered because of the cheating... but there is a problem : if they know who has cheated why would be no crystal transfert ?
Maybe because some people fund cheated crystals without knowing that. For example : Me, a friend shows me a way to reach the lost room in the dungeon. So sometimes I were there (do you remember our great discussion there about cheating Zetsumei ? ;-)) and camp there (it was very boring) because of the lot of crystals that spawned there...
I apologize but didn\'t know and in fact I still don\'t know if this was because of the cheating... I just suppose that.
So dev ? Am I right ? Is that the reason of your doubt ?

No, people made hacks for the game, and then used them to get lots of crystals. For example, there\'s one which allows you to pickup every crystal within a certain range with the press of one button. So people became very rich, very fast, and then they dropped large amounts of these everywhere, so they got spread around, or they transferred to other accounts. So if there is a transfer, there\'ll be lots of people who\'ll start with enough money to buy the best of everything straight off, and have cash left over, which\'ll cause big infaltion, screwing up the economy.... etc. :D

In SWG, some guys managed to pull off a similar stunt on quite a few servers, and screwed up the economy for the whole game :) Massive inflation everywhere.
Yeah, ps isn\'t at this stage yet, but still, not worth the risk :)
