Hi, I\'ve just completed schooling in Australia, and I\'m looking at getting into the gaming industry, not just because I\'m like many other people who play games all the times and would like to make money from it, but I see a lot of things I\'d like introduced into games to make them \"better\" (using that term loosly here).
I enjoy drawing 3D models in CAD software for the challenges they offer and would like to move my modelling skills into making models for game. I have a sample zipfile of some of my older work I did in Rhino 3D if anyone wants to see. (http://www.abbl.org/~teamvertex/photos/renders.zip)
I\'m hoping to get into a university course next year at QANTM university in Toowoomba, doing Computer Games Programming and eventually hoping to make a career out of it. I\'m just wondering if anyone could provide some advice about modelling for games, some tips towards what are good programs to use for modelling 3D for games, etc.
Also maybe a bit of information towards the programming side of modeling like skeletal animation and physics engines.
Thanks in Advance

While QANTM may be good, there are better options, though costly, and you need a portfolio to enter.
I cannot recall the name of the school (I\'ll ask my friend and get back to you), but there are two, one in Melbourne and one in Canberra. They are solely designed for game production/creation/design etc.
I myself was interested in applying, but I need to create a profile. Currently I am at university doing a Bachelor of Psychology, and it interests me, so game design may be a thing of the past.
Search around before committing yourself, and you may find something better suited. Unless of course you have your heart set on QANTM or you don\'t want to leave QLD.
My advice, get a copy (legitimate) of 3dsMax 6 or even 7. You like modelling, that is the best available. That is all I can help you with.

When i go to universitry or colledge i am hoping to do somthing with games in it. I think it would be realy fun

Toowoomba is only 2hrs from home, so it\'s good. For the QANTM Course it is going to cost me $13000 per year for a two year course. If I\'m still hooked into making games after that course, I might have a look at these places in Melbourne and Canberra for follow up courses.
Can you give me a rough quote on how much 3DS Max 6/7 would cost, also, can one get it cheaper under a student pricing like most Adobe Photoshop programs?
Thank you for your replies, I\'m just about to hit google about 3DSMAX :)

I am also looking to get into the gaming industry. I am hoping to be a programer. I have heard about those institutes that are for those interested in game development. And i\'m working on building up a profile for my self.
So far i have been included in 2 projects. The first one, a feuturistic MMOFPS. I was head of the 3d department in that one, but a lot of people from the team were leaving... And soon (about a month) the project was abandoned.
I have just recently joined another project, in which i will be a coder. Right now i\'m trying to figure out the engine/editor that we will be using. It says that its free... But when i try to run it, it tells me that i need some kind of key... The kind that you have to register for.

Ugh, no I can\'t... the site won\'t load.
You try it (http://www.discreet.com/)
I think there is a student cost, but I was told it\'s only for one year?

Heh, I would just like to point out that getting a career in computer gamming will probably end up very hard. With all the people interested into it it will become competitive.

For those of us who don\'t have the technical background or who play and speak another language...here to you!
