Title: Morrowind!, Big News!!
Post by: FullTiltBoogie on November 28, 2004, 08:12:15 pm
Ive loved the Elder scrolls games since i bought Daggerfall back in \'97. And the news about a fourth game in late 2005 has got me totally psyched. But all of these games have been single-player only and the series could be much more if they made a multiplayer version of it.

On the forums of the elder scrolls i have heard of a release of th alpha test of online Morrowind Game Of The Year.

Hop on over to the forums and download your copy today!

Meh, old news
The online project has been going for quite a long time and you cant really call it multiplayer. All it does is spawns an exact replica of the other persons player and that clone just follows you. Plus if he kills an entire town that town will still have everything alive on your computer.

Yeah I do think that online Morrowind would be...

nah dream on :))

Bethesda will never make a multi player morrowind
it\'s probably the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
Bethesda have worked so hard on Elder Scrolls III,
Tribunal and Bloodmoon there aim/goal in life is to create
the greatest SINGLE player rpg to ever hit the earth.

They focus on all aspects of gaming and how to improve
the game for single player purpose. Bethesda have been asked
if they are going to make morrowind a online game many many times
there response has always been the same. They are focusing
on creating the best single player game there is and thats
the end of that so MORROWIND WILL NOT BE ONLINE
they wont even think of that intill they finish the current game they are working
on They wont even start to make an online morrowind...also do you have anything
solid to backup what your saying I mean a link to the forums
is nothing, How about some images or some information

some old news, Bethesda have got a new game coming up late 05
or so. It\'s called Oblivion heres a screenshot

Oblivion is finally another single player RPG i can look forward too... I miss the the days of exploring Morrowind... *sigh*
Title:
Post by: Dameon on November 29, 2004, 05:26:55 am
We can\'t even call it Morrowind. It doesn\'t even take place there... Oblvion: Elder Scrolls 4. Oblivion is the word for Hell in the Elder Scrolls series.

The game is supposed to take place in the Imperial homeland.
Title:
Post by: Nikolia on November 29, 2004, 11:49:28 am
did ou ever perhaps think that the imperial homeland may be hell?
Title:
Post by: Harkin on November 29, 2004, 11:56:45 am
if your talking about me, i meant i missed the days of exploring Morrowind since I beat Morrowind, i know that Oblivion is in a totally new area... i just miss the caves... the people screaming.... falling under the rain of arrows... *sigh*

and if you weren\'t talking about me... bleh
Title:
Post by: druke on November 29, 2004, 04:47:22 pm
i was under the impression that oblivion would include much of the world, perhaps including Morrowind
Title:
Post by: Xalthar on November 29, 2004, 05:00:40 pm
Oblivion will take place in Cyrodiil (aka the imperial province) and parts of Oblivion...

Also there is an unofficial multiplayer mod for Morrowind as Syzerian said.. It is, however, entirely worthless and boring beyond belief..

On a side note there will be both caves, people screaming and arrows in Oblivion.. Actually the bow and arrow will be the only ranged weapon there, since they removed the crossbow and thrown weapons to focus on realism in the handling of the bow

\"Also there is an unofficial multiplayer mod for Morrowind\"
yeah? who made it?
Title:
Post by: Syzerian on November 30, 2004, 08:21:16 am
I cant remember who made it off the top of my head but it is in alpha testing and it is not released to the public.

A multiplayer mod for morrowind simply wouldn\'t work.  How would their mods interact?  What if a person has created their own personal set of armor (like me) that other players wouldn\'t have access to?  What if one person has Hawkmoth (that\'s the skeleton castle mod right?) installed and the other doesn\'t?  It would turn into the Diablo 2 open servers where you have people running around with cheater armor massively owning everyone.  Not my idea of fun.

About Oblivion, there is a book in Morrowind about it (entitled \"On Oblivion\" I believe).  Oblivion is basically the land of the gods (heaven & hell combined).  That is where Azura (one of the 3 good gods) and the other gods (though the above mentioned book calls them princes of some sort) live in their respective realms.

Post by: Merdarion on November 30, 2004, 06:12:07 pm
Well, Oblivion is the realm of the daedra. It\'s more hell than heaven. The game will take place in Cyrodill the homeland of the imperials.
I\'ve some clues on the story:
->You will have to save the empire once more. A relative of the king has betrayed a daedra lord something with a quest he did, but also not don\'t really know, he did that quest somehow, but the daedra lord wasn\'t pleased. The guy wanted from the daedra that he will live eternaly in his hometown, with the voices of his friends around. The daedra however also played a trick on that guy. He recreated the city on Oblivion, killed the guy\'s friends and transportated them to this realm, then he cast some kind of enchantment that the guy could hear the voices of  his friends.
If you played morrowind you\'ll probalbly know that there are problems, for the king is ill and his relatives have been replaced by doubles. So you\'ll have to get that guy outta that realm.

Well which of the great houses in morrowind did you like best?

Telvanni without doubt.  This is mainly because of Morrowind\'s one big flaw.  Building your character to be a magic user was way better than building to be a meleer.  Melee skills could be learned later on.  If you use a high elf with one of the two signs that increases mana then your character will be awesome with magic, and the melee skills can be learned later on.  It\'s hard to argue with a guy who\'s 100 at long blade wearing full daedric armor and is followed by every summoned creature in the game. :P

As a battle trained Nord, I picked the path of honor, the path of Redoran :]
Daedric armour and dai-katana all the way ;)
Had some magic and jabber skills as well, but Telvanni are all insane, and Hlallu simply weak :P
Altho\' Redoran are building you a \"fort\" in sucky place :/

But when it comes to magic I really like the robe from Bloodmoon which gives you 5*intelligence mana and insane (+70 ?) bonus to summoning skill. The bad sides are quite fun as well ;)

Title:
Post by: Merdarion on November 30, 2004, 07:14:34 pm
I actually chose Hlaalu! I eas a woodelven Thief/Illusionist. But I think being insane is the best of being a telvanni (Drahta and Therana, are very good examples)

Did you know that you can make Constant Enchantments, by using trapped golden saints.
So when you went to Therana\'s chamber and bought that spell from felen (which is the coolest guy in whole Azuras coast), made a version that lasts only 5 seconds (maybe ten). cast it and then cast soultrap --> running. You could make things like my \"Amulet of shades\" which gave you 30 Chameleon. Or something like \"Staff of Portals\", which constantly summoned a winged twilight a golden saint and an Atronnach of each kind :).

p.s.:There are three magicka signs (the \"poor\" mage, the \"average\" Aprentice and the \"godlike\" Atronnach) Found it funny seing the telvanni guys \"feeding\" me with their spells.

Morrowind is a great game, but also a game I never liked from a simple reason: it tries to create a world similar to an online one, in a single player game. A MMORPG ... single player. Of course, we kinda don\'t have the resources atm to succed this.
Well, nothing is wrong with this though. But they did some other things only for that aspect. And the most important -> a poor story. Every game from the series had a poor story. It will never be compared with a complex story like Planescape Torment\'s one ...
And they have not to screw it up with Oblivion. Because let\'s not forget they\'re taking care of Fallout III!
Also, why would be impossible to create an online game? They have plenty of members to take care of it and also, it would be a great chance to gain some extra cash ;)
Title:
Post by: JellyWerker on November 30, 2004, 07:53:49 pm
I don\'t think it tries to do that Annah, but I can\'t wait for oblivion, I\'ll need a better computer to run it though
/me looks around for nonexistent cash after getting 3ds max 6
but hey, what is Christmas for : D well, not really, but it is a nice hope.

I played it through with all three kinds of characters.. magic user and telvanni, melee fighter and redoran, assassin and hlaalu.. Still playing it ^^

my favorite was pretty much the same as ArcaneFalcon, for the same reasons :P

Well if you played the Tribunal expansion there is a cult that belives that when the Tribunal falls the gates of oblivion will open and the people of Morrowind will become slaves to the Daedra once more.
I have played all the houses with 3 different characters and I must say that Telvanni has the most interesting members and generaly give better quests. Ive recently started a new mage character who is level 4 and already has the cuirass of saviors hide, mararas ring, mentors ring, masque of clavicus vile and the boots of blinding speed. Artifacts are so easy to obtain when you know where they are :D

and that is why after character 4, the game gets totally boring.. my most interesting character was a free lance ranger, roaming the wilds... best part about the game was exploration...

Well, and if you played Bloddmoon you would know about the prophecy that guy and his wife\'s skull gives you after cmpleting the mainpart.

I had a problem with morrowind being so static.

The guys stan on the same postition,
The monsters stay on the same posision,
The story wasn\'t variable,

Some mods did change that:
Example: REal Signposts, lighted windows in the night, The God Mod(seems stupid, but it made you have a decision in the endgame), etc. pp.

A very positive part is the TES Constructor.

First of all I know this is an old thread. Yes I used the search button and this is the closest I came to a thread that was appropriate for what I wanted to post. I didn't want to start a new topic. BTW search on the forums is retarted.

Where have I been the last couple of days .... playing Oblivion.  \\o//  Good lord it has everything and it looks great on my pc. I wanted to express my excitement on this as I am a big fan of the Morrowind. What surprised me the most was the graphics. I feel like I am really walking in the mountains when I approach them, and I love when you look down that the bushes rustle and sway with the wind. The wild life is incredible, I was actually startled in RL when I was making a quick get away on my horse .. three deer jumped out onto the path. I decided to slow down and check out the view and then a wolf jumped out and started nipping at my heals. I love that you can buy your own horses and even invest into a business. Ohhhhhh ya, and you can buy your own house. I am loven it!!!! I haven't even had the chance to test out the magic system yet but I am sure it rocks from what I have seen so far. Character selection is great! So many shapes, sizes, colors, hair styles, and facial expressions you can choice for each character.

I am sure alot of you could find flaws and things to be added. Over all though this game is awesome and it just seems so realistic. I would highly recommend trying out Oblivion ... especially if you are into adventure. This game is so worth the bucks!

Level 23 Khajiit here :) with a whole load of uber mods.
I actually enjoyed Morrowind more than Oblivion, I don't know why though :P.
Sadly I have already finished the main quest and all the side quests ( thats right) in Oblivion, so now I have to keep waiting for new quest mods to play some new quests again.

If your system is close but your video card is not on their approved list you can try out OLDblivion (http://www.oldblivion.com/) which allows it to run on older cards on low settings.  Still beats up my machine pretty bad, but its playable ;)

Anyway, the game is definately a lot of fun and huge :D.  Nice thing is you can go through the main quest immediately if you want to so it doesn't force people to play for a long time before they are able to do the main quest.

I was really disappointed in Oblivion, though I shouldn't have been since I wasn't a fan of Morrowind.  It's great for what it is, I guess, but you're not really able to play your character as you see fit story-wise...and since that's all that's ever interested me in a game I find it unplayable.  Though once again I don't know why I was expecting otherwise.

But really though, my 3 roommates have pretty much done nothing but play it on my 360 since it came out, so maybe I'm just bitter.

Daggerfall was the same way though.... the only choice you really have in the main quest is who to give the thingy to at the very end of the game.

And no, they didn't change it to Mature from Teen because you could see dismembered bodies laying around, or because you could see bodies hanging from a rope (around the neck) with a stool laying on it's side below their feet.. or because you could break into people's houses at night, suck their blood and then brutally stab them to death while they slept.... it was because of a _mod_ which allowed you to see the female characters breasts.

Something tells me the rating system is screwed. I mean... how many teenagers haven't seen a pair of breasts before? Not many, especially the girls. This 'no nudity, it is a sin' culture in the US is dumb :P We were born naked weren't we? xD

But seriously, the graphics of Oblivion look awesome o.o
Just finished playing Splinter Cell and I have to say the shadow dynamics there are just amazing.. giantic shadows of moths flying around a lamp, shadows of fences on the characters, and all the shadows are geometrical correct.. just amazing (and now after the CS conference I know how difficult shadow mechanics are o.o). If the overall graphics of Oblivion are just as good as the shadows in Splinter Cell.. wow.

I also recently downloaded a mod for a race you an pick called "The Dark One". He has some sweet powers like the Greater Power of the Dragon's Breath that does like 5000 damage in 120 ft radius of you, but the mod doesent work. Like, you can choose him/her, but the dark elf in the next cell doesent say anything, which  means that the guards and the Emperor won't come ;(   Also I have a level 12 deadra I started just a few days ago.... Pretty cool. I also found some good vids on google! The words under them are for the video above them.

That one is probably the best I'll find.... Sweetly unedited action! Requires DSL, for all of the vids..... It's unedited except for the last few seconds where the emperors voice comes up.

Ok I finally found something I dislike about the game. The dialogue. It is a shame they spent so much time making the game look realistic, but when you approach an NPC you already talked to and even sold stuff to and they respond to you with the same dialogue that they used when you first meet them ..... that just seems silly to me. Is it hard to program the NPC into remembering that you have meet them and have already done a quest for them? So you don't get the "Hi my name is" and "I do this for a living" over and over. I think if you have meet the NPC it should be able to recall meeting you and maybe ask you how your finding your way around or something. To me this would not take away from the awesome game they have built. For some reason I have the impression that when putting the dialogue information in, at that point it seemed like the attitude was ...  rush .... rush ... get the game on the shelves!

It's still the most dialogue in a game ever I think, what would you want them do? Spend 20 years making the game so the conversations dont get boring?

It's not hard, but in one of Bethesda's interviews said that they will not make it, because if you play the game with your bro or sis, and they share the same account, you could miss out on the info and will not be able to continue in some parts when you need that info.... Or maybe you forgot to turn your speakers on and didnt have the subtitles on, and only heard half of what they said. ^_^

Erm ... lmao... Ya! That is what they do for a living. If it was just a hobbie then I would say no.  :P
                                                     ...........................................................

@Ahriman: That is a very good point and completely understandable. It is a shame though. I am not even talking big ajustments to the dialogue . I would just like to go into a tavern and not have the tavern keeper act like they don't know me even though they meet me before and I even did a quest for them a couple of times. A simple "Hello, good to see you again, would you like to view my wares?" would be nice. The game is so realistic with the graphics, that the same conversation with an NPC I have met a million times kind of ruins it for me.

That's just being picky.

Hmm.. I don't see it that way at all. I didn't think it was being picky on making mere suggestions or a "wish" to have a game that looks so realistic, have the dialogue a little more realsitic too. To me if your going to spend that amount of time making the game look so sweet you wouldn't want to dumb it down with crappy dialogue. Especially with all the time and effort they put into the books and history of the game. That in its self shows they could have done a better job with the dialogue.

@Jekkar: Very true. Go modding community!

Actually the dialogues in Gothic and Gothic II were far better, considering that NPCs recognized you and occasionally talked to you by themselves.

In oblivion, I realized the same thing happens.... Sometimes. The other day [Morndas it was, I think] I walked past Urbul Gro-Orkulg, a good friend, from Slash and Smash. He said "Oh, it's you! Hi.". So it happens sometimes.
