Title: E3 or Mexico?
Post by: Shadowfalcon on December 03, 2004, 07:55:49 pm
I seem to be in a bit of a perdiciment. I have recently come across two opportunities to go on two awsome trips this year. To E3 in LA, with a bunch of people from my school which will cost me about $600. And a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with a weeks stay at an awsome timeshare on the ocean with 9 other friends. also around $600. The problem is that I probably wont have enough money for both trips, and I was what others thought about this situation. E3 or Mexico. I cant decide!

I\'d probably choose E3, although I guess it depends how good you expect it to be this year. Sounds like a tough choice... let us know what you decide. :)

Maybe I should weigh the pros and cons of each.

Pros:
   Mexico:
Ocean, my friends will be there, get drunk on the beach, high probability of hot chicks, one full week.
   E3:
E3, get drunk at after parties, high probability of gamer chicks, might see starcraft 2

Cons:
   Mexico:
Will miss E3, might die from drinking the water
   E3:
Will miss Mexico, might die in gang shooting

Yeah, that didnt help a bit...

OMG, I just found out about another trip, to Virginia Beach this summer. Wont cost nearly as much, but still. Why am I cursed so!

I\'d say Mexico, hanging with friends is always better than going to E3 not knowing anyone. Plus, at least in Mexico your more likely to do fun stuff like...you know...

EDIT And might I add, since you come from the US holding US currency I assume, you can buy more things since your holding stronger currency...

A: Lived in Mexico for 5 years it\'s great
B: Been to a truck load of conferences and they usually suck.

That said, nine friends in a time share sounds like you are asking for fights and trouble. I have lived in a ton of communal housing in my day and let me tell you: it doesn\'t matter how good a friends you are with anyone they will become so annoying that you contemplate murder -many, many days in a row- just so you can have some peace...keep in mind that that is two years in a three room with nine guys (thats right NINE) talking.

Conferences on the other hand, you get to meet all kinds of people and see all the best new stuff first. Hell you even get to play with most of it!

You are in a pickle friend.

AH HA HA HA HA!!! Its like a 40 min drive to the E3 from my house :D

first, we would only be in mexico for a week, so i highly doubt we would be at each others throats. But then again, I havnt actually met five of the guys who would be going, so AFAIK, they might be my mortal enemies.
second, DERN YOU EFLLIXI AND YOUR SHORT DRIVE TO E3! I live in michigan, so either one would be quite a commute. luckily, tickets to LA are only gonna cost me $150, whereas to mexico would be $450. Anyway, are you going to E3? Maybe I\'ll see you there.

The website says may 18th - 20th. also, im going for package 3, $300

\"Tuesday: Includes 9 workshops, 3 luncheon sessions (boxed lunch served to first 100 attendees), and a three-day exhibit floor pass.\"

just so you know, E3 isn\'t open to the public.

\"Please note that there is no admission fee for Package 5. However, registration for this package is open only to members of the interactive entertainment industry. E3 2005 is not open to the public. Individuals who are not able to document their direct, professional affiliation to the interactive entertainment industry are not qualified to attend E3 2005.\"

Edit: P.S. How do you get those nifty little quotes in your posts?

tygerwilde, I am going via a school sponsored trip. But thats only going to fund about half of it, ill have to front some $500 of my own money. You should ask around at your school if they send students on field trips, as im sure they do. theres always a way to get money from a school.

Speaking of E3, I found this funny short movie (about 10 mins) about some guys who go to E3... It gives a good picture of the kind of things you might see there.. so check it out: http://www.flashplayer.com/animation/declineofvideogaming2.html

Well by the time I had seen the first one I had already seen the second one, but yeah they are hilarious. I\'ve seen em both 12 times. :)

EDIT: Infact, I feel inspired to start a thread about it

Hey shadow falcon I know its not open to the public and uv gotta be 18 so what do you do to get in if you ARE the public?(assuming im 18)
EDIT
Would video games sites count as part of the trade? Like IGN or anything? Cuz somone I know has made one and is releasing it soon. Im probably going to be part of the staff so it could be my pass in :). And his site isn\'t some cheezy fan site. It has a paid staff, contests, etc.

Actually, I\'m 20. Im going via a school trip, but how the SCHOOL got us in, I still dont know. We dont actually have a videogame program. (Yet anyway, were supposed to get one next year, which is what im switching into.) About you\'re website connection... You could always try, I mean the worst they can do is say no. I bet getting tickets is easier than they make it sound.

A videogame program... hmm that\'s interesting. Just out of curiousity, what University do you go to... I might look into one that had a videogame program (in six years when I\'m out of highschool)
